Morning all...

Just a quick question as I cant find my marine 'dex. is librarian armour always blue regardless of the chapter they belong to or is that just what GW do or do you use the standard army colours???

Coz i cant say that ive seen them any other colour but my memory aint that good.

Cheers in advance

They use the chapter colors and the pictures they have of a librarian is from the Ultramarines chapter.

I'm afraids that this is incorrect. Librarians are traditionally blue just as tech marines are red and chaplains are black. Many people will add at least a little blue to a Libbies armor to reflect the tradition but you are required to do so.
I usually use blue for the non-chapter badge shoulder pad, chest plastern, sometimes helmet and one leg. But I run a non-standard codex chapter.

strict adherance to the codex astartes would make your libby all blue.

Learn something new everday so I stand corrected.

Yes, old school had Librarians all blue, with the left shoulder pad in chapter colours.

With 4th edition however heraldics were loosened a bit - we have seen Apothecaries who only wear a white helmet instead of all white armour, for example.

So as Quin 242 said, nowadays specialists could use a mix of chapter colours and specialist colours.

Thanks for letting me know.

Considering I am doing Iron Hands and they dont strictly adhere to the codex and its a scratch built librarian i think i might go with the chapter colours for the most part and add blue in some where.

Do the Iron Hands have so many Psykers at all? Anyway, please paint at least the helmet and one Shoulderpad ('s trim) blue.

Or you could do the whole arm blue, but with the shoulder pad field in the chapter colour.

not seen anything to suggest that they dont have the normal contingent of psykers, but then again ive not seen all the fluff for them yet.

I would do the helmet blue, but he does not have one, was going to do the should pad as a minimum.

Well, my librarian is quite contrary to the traditional blue. Since my space marine force fluff, is very non-astartes (although very loyal to humanity) My marines have actually been painted with camo armour...hence my librarian has bronzed flesh armour. No blue whats so ever. Although my fluff would suggest that before its chapter reformation, he wore blue...

You see my army was 'originally pink', but their first campeign led the chapter to almost extinction, because of the pinkness. Hence they have camo armour :) thats my 2cents woth anyways

From what I understand, the Iron Fathers take the roles of Chaplains in the chapter. The rules suggest they take the role of commanders though...

I would assume Iron Warriors have the normal amount of Librarians as I haven't seen anything to condradict it...

Iron warriors have sorcerers. Iron hands have Librarians. ;)

They should have them anyway. They are part of the standard Codex organization of a chapter.

Do you use the standard army colours???

I'm currently painting a terminator armoured Librarian. He will have bone white armour (Deathwing) with blue left shoulder pad (the one with Crux Terminatus). My techmarine's and apothecary's power armour are standard dark angels' green (as you can see in my CMON gallery).

The answer is that in a Codex chapter, a Librarian's armor would be blue.

Obviously there are variations and exceptions.

I'd go for the Deathwatch Style of having 1 arm and a helmet Blue, along with a psycic hood

I'm actually doing a deathwatch team and my choice was a bit diferent. Where the rest of the bunch get grey or metal shades on the edge of every armor plate (to reflect light or chipped armor, whatever you like). The librarian gets regal blue (done over black gives a really dark blue). This way it looks like either he wore blue and painted it black when he joined the deathwatch. Or he kept tones of blue shining thrue the paint to reflect its status (though sunlight is the only way to see this).

The reason I keep the options of either chipped paint or actual color variation in my post is because I'm still in the moddeling phase. Nothing is painted yet. Either way lets me have the characteristic 'metal' arm on the lib though.

Just a thought....

I will most likely paint the right shoulder pad blue as it will match the red shoulder pad the my iron father has.

was thinking of painting other parts of him blue as well but i cant decide what and no i cant do the helmet as he does not have one.

My chapter being non "standard" codex has black armour, red greaves and hands. So im replacing the black for blue. Might make the backpack black too for the libie, but im not sure right now. My 2 cents.

I too have an all black Marine army and wanted my Librarian to have some fluff-based flair without standing so starkly against the rest of my army.

Here was my compromise:

yeah i thoughs that i would be unorthodox for a change and paint them pink. believe me when i say that man have fallen on the battlefield for having underestimated my pinkies

Gunt thats a great conversation for a first timer and that i think you will think of a really good colour theme to stay with your army mine is a blue librerian
he is the special character Tigerius chief librerian of the ultra marines.
I like the converstion with your model keep up the good (no fantasting) work :)
