View Full Version : What army has 'core' choices that cost 50 each?

Undead Orcs!

Take one skeletal orc model from the Cursed Company set (2.50), mulitply by 20 and there you have it - a core unit that costs 50 quid.

You could also combine the skeletal orc models with bits from the orc boyz box to make zomborcs, but that would cost even more - probably around 60 per unit.

So if you want an undead orc army with 2 units of skeletons and 2 units of zombies, you're talking an expenditure of around 220!

I'd love to do it, but clearly it will never happen.

Anyone else got any unfeasibly expensive army ideas? If you can top mine I'll be impressed!

Savage orc horde.

$45 for 10 infantry models.

$50 for 5 cav.

Globadiers. They cost 10$ CA each. That must be 4.5 pounds.
The units are "2-10".
So a full unit (which wouldn't be uncommon if they were cheaper :( ) costs 100$ or 45 quid.

and they cost 10 points each :eyebrows:

I never bought any of them. I recieved them all through cheap trades, gifts, or by conversions.

A tsunami of warhounds

One beastlord in a chariot
2 tuskgor chariots
270 warhounds in units of 10 @ £6 for 2 = £810 - that's £1 per 2 points for the warhounds ...

My BoC army has 30 Warhounds, seems I'm nearly there... :p

Weeeelll, a unit of 25 Dark Elf Corsairs/Savage Orcs with command will set you back £55 with 2 corsairs to spare (of course I wouldn't field a unit larger that 20 which is still £43)
I'm pretty sure DoW pikemen cost the same and daemons will be £1 less since they don't have command models.

daemonic legions....no competition there...

They're expensive, but you need a hell of a lot more skeletons/zombies than you do daemons in order to form an army.

So in the balance Undead Orcs still work out as the most horrendously expensive.

What about a snotling army? There's an awful lot of Snotling bases in there...

An all metal goblin army wins this easily. I am sure there are some metal goblins around there, and if you would make an army out of it, you are probably paying about a pound per point you spend.

I've got you all beat - take my warhound tsunami above, remove the the beastlord and the tuskgor chariots and swap in Morghor and two minimum sized beastherds and as many warhounds as you've got points left for.

Then buy all the chaos spawn models you'll need when they fail their leadership tests.

I reckon that pwns the expense of your undead orcs many, many times over.

This is really an odd category. TONS of units can cost $100/50 pounds each. Almost every army has units that will cost that much, which is why I avoid them, and if i must run them, I convert.

I built a 6 man mounted yeomen($60 retail) for around $20 using M@A parts and a horse archer box i got for $5.

$100 units you say?

grave guard, black orcs, savage orcs, stormvermin, corsairs, black knights(nobody actually buys them though), and the list goes on and on and on.

Savage Orcs are also a candidate, 6 for three and we all know 30 is the best unit size for them...D:

That would also be one horrible clone army.

My most expensive unit will have to be Black orcs, 60 for a unit of 20.

What about Chaos Dwarfs? You have to Ebay those.

TheWarSmith

or use only the 3 hellcannon crew OVER and OVER again.

But yeah, CD at $4-6 a pop would ring in at the most expensive army EASILY.

Don't forget their War Machines, Slaves, Character mounts and Bull Centaurs. It's alot of money for a race that WILL be updated (Gav said they would be, and they're in the rulebook).

Undead rats. Same deal with the orcs, but you'd need much more of them.

you guys aren't posing real armies. I could list a TON of conversion armies that would cost LOADS of money.

Tanith Ghost

Ok, how about this then- a Skaven horde of nothing but metal skaven?
The slaves for example, are only 2 points each, and I like a block of 40 as a rule, either for use as a meatsheild or to destroy myself to make sure my army's weapons work.

Well the first example (upon which this whole thread is ultimately based) was a conversion army. I'm tempted to say 'Duh!' but that would be childish. ;)

Here's one: A legitimate Dogs of War army, using ALL dogs of war models. Nearly everything's metal and not cheap. Or you have to mail-order it, which gets expensive quickly.

How about Ogre Kingdoms "Rhinox Thunderlord and 2 Rhinox Cavalry" thats $166.67(current rate for US $) And its only 3 modles

Or everones fav FW Giant its about the same price for one model!

Oops I guess the Blood Thirster comes in at a whopping... no wait its the The huge War Mammoth for only $378.00

Units that you might actually use in a game...

An all chariot BoC army with each chariot lovingly converted from a looted steam tank.

the mammoth is usable in consent games, but the bloodthirster is a bit..........odd. He's HUGE so he's really disadvantaged.

Maybe you could glue a standard monster base under his hoof and have him hop around on one leg.

TheWarSmith

Pose him in flight with a tiny 50x50 base under him w/ a long pole sticking into his chest. He doesn't take wounds normally, but only takes them when he falls down, which he will about 5 times a game.

You get +2 to hit it: VERY large target :p

I agree with Tanith Ghost that a 100% metal, mega-horde skaven army would probably cost a damn lot.

or even worse: a gnoblar army made entirely of mail-ordered individual gnoblars (like the ones you get in ogre tyrant boxes).

I think you could make a good list including about 600 models.

hertz
06-09-2006, 02:44
....and then, after aquiring the models, you got to get a pro painter to paint them all to golden daemon standard! and unfortionally, that wont be cheap, look at another 2000$+ here...

Undead lizardmen.

Units of skinks made up entirely of the one dead skink model that comes as part of Lord Kroak's throne. Since you can't mail order that part any more you'd have to buy a complete Lord Kroak for every skink.

A unit of 10 skinks - £200.

Forest Goblins - £2 a pop, £2.50 for command. A decent unit of 30 is £61.50, a more sensible unit of 40 is £81.50

Savage Orcs are £2.50 a pop, £3 for command, so a unit of 20 is £50 without command, or £51.50 including.

To convert to dollah, roughly double the pricing. :p
