Well there are more of them out there, but the Imperium hasn't found them yet. No one knows for sure how many Talismans of Vaul the Eldar constructed to the fight the Necrons. The ones under Abbadon's control have the Eldar seers activated in them.

how can abbadon control eldar seer powered weapons? shouldn't the seers be able to do something?

He used the Hand of Darkness and the Eye of Night - two ancient artefacts created millenia ago to re-activate the Blackstone Fortresses/Talismen of Vaul. Of the six created, Abaddon escaped with two after losing the Gothic War. During Black Crusade XIII, one was destroyed by the Necrons. A Necron fleet attemped to destroy the other and although they wiped out the screening vessels, forcing the Fortress to focus on its own defence, it destroyed their ships with ease. It was last seen drifting, having devoured the souls of Eldrad Ulthran and his warlock bodyguard.

I dont know game terms for it being anti eldar... but they were created to fight the necrons, as the cannon is supposed to tear a hole in space to the warp, destroying them easily.

With enough firepower everything goes down eventually. For the one destroyed by the Necrons it must have taken a massive fleet of ships to destroy that and at a great cost. In strategic terms it could probably only happen in an ambush situation.

Very true as these things are like giant hard points and they dont go anywhere alone. It would have had a big escort. Thats some serious necron power there. Even as an ambush one shell from the fortress and there goes a good little chunk of your fleet... God makes me wish we could use them:evilgrin:

In the necron codex there is a little blurb about the deceiver's most recent actions, it details that he has taken steps to destroy the blackstone fortresses, and those he cannot destroy are at least out of the reach of his nemesis, the eldar, forever (supposedly).

As far as destroying them goes, since the C'tan are the few things as ancient as the fortresses one would assume they have in depth knowledge of how they work. Whereas most forces would have to pound the thing into submission, I'm sure that the C'tan have superior tactics for dismantling one as well as the God-like strength of the Deceiver/whatever other C'tan who would most likely lead the forces in such a battle since the Talismans are of key importance to them.

Necron fleets are usually small - but powerful beyond belief. They can appear practically anywhere in seconds, without using the warp; they store energy which they release in blasts; they can repair almost any damage quickly. A single blast can take down or cripple most things - a volley from a handful of Necron vessels will destroy any target. An entire fleet of them wouldn't take long to destroy a Fortress, and they did.

The necrons may be powerful but these things were like unstoppable(except obviously not) Think about 1 shell and theres goes 3 ships into the warp?

Is the game really abstracting the true differences in technology between the Eldar and the C'tan/Necrons and, well, the Imperium for the matter!? In fact, does technology at all come into play in the game beyond the "gadget" approach?
