After this comment from tzeenthgiant:

I agree, the final decision would come down to the editors, but a nominations thread would only help to supply them with better ideas....

I don't know why I'm fighting so hard for this, nevermind :p.

TG

i thought we could put our recommendations forward to the editors (ashc, i think) to see what they say.

SO far, these are some of the more memerable, in no particlular order:

Rank bonus,
Anything but a 1,
Slottabase,
Warbanner,
The watchman.

And many more in the original discussion thread. So if you would like to enter a name, put it here and we will hopefully look through and pick the best ones. :)

Icefort is NOT going to be considered.

I like "rank bonus"

How about:

Combat Resolution

Misfire

Miscast

Battle Standard (Bearer)

Full Command

i think someone said that any name had to have connections to all armies, or centre around the Empire, while not being too empire only. SO you cant have, Athel loren or Warp lightening. ALso, it's better if the title isnt a command, such as "declare charges" as it isnt as "punchy"

Voltaire

Here's what I suggested/supported;

The Watchman
War Machine

How about Outrider?

It's Empire-centric, but also universal. Fits the bill if you ask me.

Outrider: an escort who rides ahead (as a member of the vanguard)

Dispell Scroll
Powerstone
Van Horstman's Specculum

Warhorse
Griffon egg
Runefang

Hordes of Gamers and Beasts of Gamers
Writonnia
Everyday dice

Ravenwing
Stormcrow
Hammer of War

Warbanner sounds cool to me, doesn't focus on any army.

In any case, please please none of that "Ye Olde" stuff, that horse has been killed, flogged, quartered and burned.

Rank bonus

Just sounds kinda neat.

Warbanner is a good one.

I like "Warbanner" and the likes. But The Battlestandard just sounds awesome, do it, do it now.:skull:

seems to me like we have enough good ideas for people to vote for in a poll. I'm getting excited.

I always choose a new favorite everytime a new batch of these suggestions come in:p

I have to say that Full Command and Everyday Dice sound great. I could do Warbanner though too, or maybe Battle Standard.

Either Warbanner or Battle standard.

How about Maelstrom.

Aethyr or the warp

It's very Empire slanted but I really liked the name Van Horstman's Specculum. Some of the others sound too generic.

Either Warbanner or Battle standard.

That says it all. Both are Generic enough to be all-army-inclusive yet WHFB oriented enough to provide a separate identity from Firebase.

BigJon

I like Battle Standard, I never leave home with out one, reguardless of which of my many WFB armies I play.

The fearsome Pegasus?

Pravus
07-09-2006, 08:08
Battlestandard - although isn't the newspaper of the Salvation Army called something similar?

On a related note, i case anyone suggests it, DON'T call it "The Watchtower" ...

I think my favourites from this thread are Outrider, Runefang, and War Banner.

In that order.

Voltaire

I have to admit, the more I read Outrider the more it grows on me. I'm not too sure about Runefang but War Banner is also very good.

Battle Standard is a good one, it has a kind of double meaning.

I liked Rank Bonus from the start. That's a nice one because it underlines the different styles of 40K and WFB.

Lumpsack

Battle standard is my favourite of the ones I've read, but here are a few of my meagre offerings:

Big Book 'o Stuff
Pirazzo's Lost Papers
The Hengus Herald
Where White d'Warf Went Wrong(tm)

Those four were for another project (Missfire I think it might be called now) that seems to have fizzled out and as I got no feedback I'm safe to submit them here (not that they're that great or anything )

StormCrow
07-09-2006, 11:37
I'd go with Battle Standard...at least it's not icefort

Other ones i liked were war banner and Runefang....and Stormcrow :p

Charge!
Rank and File
Movement and Magic
Old World Journal

Too bad Town Cryer is taken, war banner and battle standard sounds neat.

Rear Charge
Big Lances

They're not suggestive at all! Right?

dioscuri
07-09-2006, 13:12
The problem with 'Warbanner' is that it's a magazine for 'Warhammer', there would be too much of a sound clash with the banner/hammer (although banner/hammer does sound good...:) ).

I like Outrider myself, saying that most ideas are good. The only suggestion I offer is that the Dwarf section of the mag should be called 'Born to Rune'...

Gen.Steiner

I quite like Overrun and The Watchman but I have to say that Van Horstmann's Speculum and Warbanner are damn good as well.

TheWarSmith
07-09-2006, 14:07
rear charge might sound like it's a "different" kind of magazine.

Bubble Ghost

How about <insert generic idea>

Dude, we're supposed to be on the same side here. It would probably help if you didn't take the **** out of me, especially when the two ideas I've suggested have been about the least generic out of the lot. And that last one was a joke.

Anyway, I've got to say I think War Banner and Battle Standard may be appropriate, but they're also dull. Of the two Battle Standard is better because it has a sort of double meaning and it's more phonetically powerful. War Banner is just flat and soggy.

Outrider's pretty good but it's been used before (http://ne.games-workshop.com/outriders/) for an extra-curricular GW activity. Sure it's not a fanzine or anything, but the name still needs to be more unique than that I think.

Crube
07-09-2006, 14:10
I like the idea of Van Horstmann's Speculum, but I don't know where we'd stand with GW legal, with them having used it in their publications...

Otherwise, The Watchman, BSB...

Overrun was posted on the other thread... I thought it sounded good... Also Miscast is cool.. but what about Warpstone? or Wyrdstone?

The first thing that came to mind when I read the title was "Arrowhead". It flows nicely at least! No idea if it's been used for a similiar publication before, though.

i also like 'runefang', but it sounds a bit corny.

I liked Overrun and Scroll Caddy as suggested in the other forum, although Warbanner is still my 1st choice. So... universal!

As for the comedy option, how about "Fantasy version of Firebase" ? :p

Following a lot of deliberation between the editing councils members, and after looking over your input here in the forum, a name has emerged above the others. Though Outrider nearly made it, we have decided to name the WFB Webzine thus;

The Watchman

This was done because it is in keeping with previous ideas of it being Empire-centric. This means Warseer now has Firebase and The Watchman.

Thanks for your contributions, we look forward to bringing you further updates as they develop for the new face of Fantasy magazines.

Well, at least it's a cliche.

But I'm afraid it's taken.

Voltaire

That is 'Watchman Magazine' - this is 'The Watchman'. There is a destinct difference because we are a webzine and we are keeping with an Olde Worlde idea that was part of the original plan.

Bubble Ghost
09-09-2006, 19:13
I'm afraid it's taken.
http://www.watchmanmag.com/

That just gives using it for a Satanic wargames magazine a pleasing irony, don't you think?:D

Seriously though, I don't think that matters. It's not really anything that's going to clash. There are only so many names to go around and I don't think this particular overlap is a problem at all.

Rank n File? (but rank is just to easy to turn into an insult)
Failed Charge
Bored Hammer
The Table Edge
Killing Blow
Elves Stink Funny
Kev gets Choppa Bonus
Ye Olde Chronicle of Ye Olde Orb of Mystical Knowledge

What about any of those? not the last one though.

I dont know...

Dtrik
09-09-2006, 21:57
wow I really really like The Table Edge

I don't know why but it seems like a perfect title, or maybe a little modified like From Beyond the Table Edge. I dunno, I just really love that but Im okay with The Watchman too.

You should be so lucky.

But yes we do need more focus on the actual bit people will give a damn about. 6 pages on a name that isn't really all that important.
