Basically I wanted to know what if there is any limit to how thin (in ranks) and wide a unit can be...

For example (and only for example)... if I had a unit of 40 unit handgunners, could I form them up 1 rank deep and 40 models wide?

Usually I would play with 2 units of 20 gunners in a 10X2 formation...

Cheers,

Daryl

If you want to be a real jerk do that with night goblins.

I had for a long time wanted to do that with my O&G army. I was gonna paint them up like scotsmen and call the night goblins "the konskipted eyerish", mostly because I've seen Braveheart too many times.

But the thought of painting up my 3rd O&G army put a stop to that idea.

No you can't. There will be no room in your deployment zone.

Bear in mind that line of sight is drawn from each individual model when determining how many can fire. Targets that are very close can only be seen by a handful of models.

The only problem with the wide single rank is that if you are attacked by something like a skaven tunneling team, on the flank, you are pinned in place, can't shoot and will eventually lose the combat, being that the skaven only have to cause one wound to eliminate your return attacks.

do it, but guard your flanks well.
