I love Dreadnoughts. In my opinion, the Dreadnoughts are the coolest thing in the Space Marine armylist, and that's why I'm putting up this thread, so that everyone can upload their pictures of their Dreadnoughts here. If you have a Dreadnought (finished/in need of Basing) and you want to show it off, then post it in here. I don't care if it's been around the board for ten times already, chuck it in here anyway.

This is only intended for Imperial and Chaos Dreadnoughts. Please, no Ork, Eldar or any other kind of Dreadnoughts.

I hope that this thread can be stickied if it proves to be a succes.

After reading through this thread and seeing some very good looking dreads I realised something was missing amongst all the huge slab sided beasties!

May I present at truly ancient and venerable dreadnaughtin the form of Brother Ramius of the Dark Angels.

Some really cool Dreads here. I'm glad I found this thread.

Here are three Dreads for my Future Deathwing army, hopefully not the too distant future. All three have magnetized/removeable front plates for when they get destroyed. I replace that area w/ wreckage. (not shown). Also, the arms are magnetized for easy arm swaps.

Well, here are the first two unpainted Dreads. Which show off plastic card Extra Armor and one w/ running legs. The other has the metal legs from the =I= special ch.

*I removed the first picture. Having problems w/ resizing over at Photbucket. I'll try again later, sorry*

What do you guys think about a dreadnaught based around the Thor from mech assult. I was thinking that you could seperate the las-cannons and put one on each arm, then put a single missle pod on top. A lot more modification would occur...but over-all i think it could be a cool idea.

I know of one such beast. In Utopia, a store in malmö, sweden, they have a dreadnought bursting through the store wall! impressive, I got to say.

but ok, they cheated a little, its not a complete dreadnought, they only built the bits coming through, and there nothing on the other side of that wall, but its really cool anyway.

@BROADSIDE:
Well, that's one really nice walker. If not a Cybot I would say it would fullfill its role as a heavy kind of Sentinel as well. By the way there's a thread going on because someone came up with the idea to increase heavy firepower with kind of heavy war walker like in computer game Battlefield 2142.

I LOVE the idea of IG having all kind of big walker instead tanks - it's a little Empire like , just like in Star Wars.

She said that she envisioned the dreadnought as a stubborn and relentless fighter, who doesn't cease fighting even despite being damaged.

The base is removable, and it features a communication device the dreadnought has to destroy to prevent it from being captured by the enemy. The cables are torn and I painted some lighting effects to reflect the lasers and targetting devices on the communication pole, and sparks from the cables.

I think if I was playing Alpha Legion I would want my army to look as emperial as possible.

I know I have thought about that but I decided against it, and besides the Dread is based on an SM Dreadnought and IG sentinel legs, thats pretty imperial... I have however toned down the whole Chaosy mutation daemon thing. None of that for my Alpha Legionaires. So they are more like evil gothic Space Marines spreading chaos and destruction in the universe.

I have thought about doing some sort of tainted Ultramarines symbol on one of their Rhinoes, so that it would look like an UM Rhino from a distance, not sure how to pull it of though.

Maybe if I get inspired and people would be interested i will do a project log - maybe..

Wait a minute. There is the basis for an Adeptus Mechanicus walker for medium-heavy battles in relatively open, but 'difficult', terrain! Oh wow, with the sentinel legs and that posing of the weapons it does look practical, which is a major Adeptus Mechanicus criteria of mine. Thanks!

Well if it was standing upright the banner would be straight. But since it is charging headlong in "all ahead full and damn the torpedoes" fashion it is under an angle. And I much doubt the Word bearers would bother putting a "banner straigtnening/stabilisation device" on a completely unstable and psychotical machine. :D

But, wait, I don't understand, why would a Dreadnought need a diaper??:p ??:p

In all seriousness though, that is really awesome. Thoughtful conversion and the follow through to match. I especially like the repositioning of the 'drivers' arms. Is there a full Egyptian themed force that goes with the dread? If so, you should post up a thread to show them off...

And Grimtuff, what is the bit used as the head of the hammer on that IH dread, I recognise all of the pieces except that head...

The dreadnought "Sepulchra Metallica" (“metal grave” in Latin) of the Phantoms chapter is piloted by the previous captain of their 2: nd company, Reece, who was entombed in this sacred dreadnought some thousand years ago (or back in 033042139 M41 to be more precise) during the first year of The Twelfth Black Crusade, also known as the Gothic War.
It was during the foul servants of Chaos’ attempted boarding of the Phantoms' strike cruiser "Ascendant Justice" that Captain Reece fell before the might of a Chaos space marine terminator squad, legends tell of a bloody close combat, where Reece accompanied by his command squad successfully held his own against the overpowering terminators. By the time the battle for the cruiser was over Reece’s entire command squad lay slain but so did the Chaos terminators. Reece himself was badly wounded having been cut several times by the vile terminators’ power swords. He was deemed worthy to continue to fight for the Emperor and his Chapter, and does so until this very day entombed in his sacred dreadnought.

Well, here's two of mine. I do have a Star Wars themed SM army and my dreads all use the chicken legs pattern. These two are the All Terrain Strike Transport (ATST) and Marine Offensive eXoskeleton (MOX) pattern dreads.

all the dreads are looking sweat. At the mo im trying to get hold of a camera so i can show you my new venerable dread, its a GW one and i have made it into a BA furioso by accually making a decent looking right arm powerfist using GS and resin.
I also have 2 of the old penuts which are going to be paint striped and a plastic dread which needs fixing. hopefully i will be getting 2 more dreads by trading the black reach orks for the black reach marines tommorow.

Hey im forward thinking to the iron clads when their out, and was a little disappointed that the seismic hammer isnt actually a hammer! So was thinkin of making a little convert, but wouldnt know how to make it.

Think maybe stealing the hammer off this warmachine if i can find one, and bulking it out a bit, any ideas?

Slaaaaaanesh
19-09-2008, 12:01
I like the idea or a big Dreadnought hammer but the dread's arms are too far apart and too stubby to hold the hammer dynamically like in the Darkstar2586's attachment. Unless the hammer is held horizontally and the dreadnought keeps rotating 360 degrees in a whirlwind of madness! Spin spin spin spin spin spin spin spin spin spin spin spin spin spin spin!

This dreadnought is rather old. I made it when the Siege Dread rules were first proposed. The Inferno cannon is made from the Catachan Sentinel's heavy flamer. The buzz saw arm (which reps the siege drill) is made from the same kits rought terrain modification arm. However, I have added some other bits and brownstuff to it to update the model.

some views of the dreadnought:

The feet on the dreadnought are resin casts from Lord Karamozov's foot. Now wherever this dreadnought steps, it will be known that the =][= is quite present.

not the best of pics....
the Imperial Fists one on the far left (my left) from AoBR is very WiP, next is a FW venerable from my custom chapter The Sons of Possiedon, then a Blood Angels FW Furioso, I lost one of his fingers, so replaced one on each hand with a chainsword blade, for extra choppy goodness :D, then it's the old metal Furioso, back when it was just what Blood Angels called their dreads, then FW Iron Warriors and converted Iron Warriors dreads
there will be more coming.. I want a Chaplain dread for my blood angels, Ironclad and another standard dread for the Fists....

can you tell I like dreadnoughts?

Interesting way to go with the termie chestplates on those dreads. Not as nice as the FW ones, but not bad at all and a fraction of the cost.

This is a bit on the old side so apologies for the lack of quality. Back in 2004 over at the B&C we had a Dreadnaught painting contest to go along with the new plastic dread being released. I missed the deadline but this was going to be my entry.

The feared Brother Ginko of the Emperor's Pointy Sticks. A dread hadn't appeared in the comic up to that point so I just winged it on the color scheme. I based the banner off this TSOALR strip: http://tsoalr.com/?p=83
