first off heres the current 28mm Gotrek made by GW
Gotrek (http://uk.games-workshop.com/storefront/newimage.asp?Size=A&Img=215531)
heres the picture I have been working with

And here (though as yet without his weapons or hands) is my version of Gotrek, I apologise in advance but some of the details like the chain from his nose to his ear are so small I can't zoom in close enough without bluring the image.

I can't stand the current GW slayers as they all look fat and not at all as though they could take on demons and monsters one on one on top of this I really think that the Gotrek artwork above really sums up well my idea if the old worlds best (or least successful :P ) Slayer.

I think its a very nice sculpt,my only quarm how ever is his arms may be too low slung to hold a weapon off the ground.

very nice, but yeah, the arms maybe be a bit low unless you angle the axe upwards

VERY cool sculpt. I have the sculpt from GW prior to that and it's a good one but yours is just plain nifty :)
Menacing looking

could u make me one :) please

also you doing a felix?

18-09-2006, 07:50
excellent, much better than the latest GW Gotrek offering, also based on my favourite pic. I also like the hunched over pose, gives him that sense of malice.

Thanks everyone I have begun working on the hands (they just fit in) I shold have some more pictures up over the next few days. I hadn't planned on making Felix but I might do at some point in the future. At the moment I have also got to finish sculpting Nakai.

this is very very nice
what sort of time scale are you looking at for finishing this?

18-09-2006, 15:01
Not long hopefully no more than a week the head took me the longest and require seven different stages of sculpting as layers underneath it need to completely harden. I am however not looking forward to scupting the axe as weapons I find the hardest to sculpt.

18-09-2006, 17:35
why not use the axe from one of the 3 versions available..

18-09-2006, 18:14
no im not i just saw it thier

why not use plasticard as a base for it?

I have got some its 0.5 mm but I think that may be just a bit too thin (will probably get some thicker stuff tomorrow) I have brown stuff too so will probably use that more.

Update: Hands now finished pictures to come soon.

Here's another update, unfortunately due to sports massage exams I will not be able to do any more work for another 8 days:(

I like the model. Good job.

very nice work in deed, cant wait to see it finnished and painted.
But i cant really agree with your thinking of a real slayer, they do drink alot of beer and that gives you a belly :D
The artwok i think is the most propper one is a old one from 4th or 5th edition with some slayers (from 3-4 with the greatest in the center) looking all ready to kill.
But hey thats just my opinion you do have right to to your own and it has spawned this nice sculpt that i cant really complain on :)

Very cool! you have done what GW clearly cant and thats make a Slayers beard and mohawk look awesome. Nice sculpt

I'm painting the GD UK Daemonslayer at the moment. My wife summed up the fatal flaw:

"Aw! He's so cute! Why don't you paint more like him?"

Yes, dear, and that'll be why I'm only painting this d*mn thing to sell on eBay...

I love this Slayer, though. I'd play Dwarfs if they all looked this kick-ass.

gratz on your sculpting skill, man, it looks very nice. However, I'd like to see a side picture, because in this last pic you posted the legs and torso seem *completely* out of proportion.

19-10-2006, 16:57
I think you'll find that's how GW portays all of their Dwarfs. Real stunty legs (hence the nickname). But props to your sculpting skills though, because as was said before, this is one of the first slayer miniatures I've seen (make that the first) that actually look impressive and that have a BEARD instead of a "chunk o' hair".

Far better than anything I can make! I love it.. Very evil looking!
gotta love the eye patch! keep up the good work!
