I'm thinking about starting a BFG Necron fleet and wanted to know if anyone has seen it in action. It's apparently the single fastest fleet but lowest model count but I want to know more.

Also the dirge and jackal seem to not be availible in the US store does anyone know why?

Yup, they're very fast (both in distance moved and maneuverability) and very expensive. Model count can vary though - if you avoid tombships, you could outnumber your enemy quite often.

They're also rock-hard defensively, with excellent armor and an invulnerable save to boot.

Like most non-orky xenos weapons, necron weaponry is more powerful than its imperial equivalent. It has only modest range, but the ships' speed and impressive fire arcs make that less of an issue.

Their main weaknesses are their complete lack of ordnance and the bucketloads of VPs your opponent gets if he manages to kill some of your capital ships.

So in a nutshell, you're fast, powerful, and tough, but can't afford losses.

I've only played against them with my eldar corsair fleet. It wasn't a very fun game. The necron ship designs date from their wars with the eldar, so they're specifically designed to rip eldar a new one.

They aren't as tough as they first seem, the lack of shields means your opponent can fire at any ship with a decent chance of hurting it and if you Brace he can just shoot another ship (if he's manouvered well) and you've lost alot of your speed advantage.

The Capital Ships are still tough but the escorts are easier to destroy than the Imperial or Chaos equivilents unless they're Braced.

The Necrons speed and Agility when on Inertialess Drive are they're most useful ability esp linked with the wide arcs and Column Targeting rules.

Yep, Necron weapons batteries are scary. Even against escorts they'll usually be using the Defenses column. :cries:

Looking at it, on paper, the Dark Eldar would do ok against them. Except for the mimic engines not having an affect, the leech torpedoes, high armour, leadership, always counting targets as closing and decent speed could give the necrons a run for their money. If you concentrate on blowing the tombship up, your combined fleets firepower should be able to succeed in either one or two turns.

You really don't want to run into assault boats...

I recently played a friends Necron fleet and scooped a big hatful of VPs by killing his very expensive escorts with assault boats.

Only played Necrons the once - nasty nasty nasty.

Dont they have the whole lightning-arc/something else ability which can destroy ordnance really easily?

You're thinking of Star Pulse Generators, but if you allow your escorts to stray too far from the capital ships they're in trouble, as they can't carry star pulse generators themselves and the Generators only have a relatively short range.
