Hey, as well all know, SG don't always have figures available for their rules. Epic probably being the guiltiest party of this.

I'm just wondering what other ranges of miniatures people use, if they do so. I'm personally interested in trying to track down some cheap ships for BFG hulks/satelites/starbases. Liks would also be grand :)

Only really ever use GW minis

Pendrakon Miniatures and Irregular Miniatures for Warmaster (it's so much cheaper it's silly! Whole armies for 15!), and for Epic I use, er, GW stuff.

BFG is easily do-able with Ground Zero Games' Full Thrust range, and several Inquisitor players swear by Andrea Models.

Redoubt Enterprises do good models for human warbands in Mordheim, Necromunda is another GW-only game for me...

I've used Foundry figures for Mordheim - well they are usually Perry designs so work well :)

How about Babylon 5 ships? (http://www.mongoosepublishing.com/home/series.php?qsSeries=28) ,the Cold Navy range is pretty good once they are back on track.

For Epic imperial guard, I guess some of the historical 6mm ranges would work - especially for Valhallan and Praetorians.

i seem to recall reading that Jervis Johnson was a bit unhappy with GW's policy of not letting SG show pictures of non-GW mini's, as he thought there were some brilliant EPIC IG armies made from historicals

I'm a big fan of Andrea Miniatures and Pegso Models for 54mm conversions for Inquisitor. And Hasslefree and Heresy both make great Bloodbowl minis.

I'm not sure of scales and such, but would Privateer Press Warmachine Dreadnought-type things not work well as epic scale titans?

Darkrealm Miniatures (http://darkrealmminiatures.com/DRMrange/rangeindex.htm) are perfect for Epic Guard, Necrons and other stuff

BTW, has anyone ever ordered from these? As those Andrayadas figs make for better Necron warriors than the Ork boy stand ins I have ATM (plus the price is not too shabby either)

Although in the end I went for GW's plastic Guard infantry, I was very serioulsy considering using Dark Realm Miniatures' human infantry for my Imperial Guard force. They are very good.

I will be using their snipers as Marine Scout snipers.

Well, the only reason I never use other companys minis for 40K is if I play in the store. However, SG are no longer supported in GW stores, so I'll end up playing friendly games more, thus no need to really not go cheap.

An anyway, other companys are often more expensive to obtain than GW equivelants if you factor in shipping. But they are a lot nicer.

DRM for human infantry. If I end up needing to buy humans, I don't intend to buy SG minis. Mainly as they all wear the snow coats. I don't really understand why they made that one the default IG trooper.

I think it was because of the push when they made epic armageddon, and the steel legion were being pushed.

The centauri ships are very nice, I'll be acquiring some of the fighters for my dark eldar ordnance markers.

What would make good BfG Necron Dirges and Jackals?

Have a look at the Centauri minis from B5: A Call to Arms. Alternatively, GZG Full Thrust line has some fleet vessels that look the part (I think that they are Middle East inspired, but I am not 100% sure about this).

Phigs minis are great for Bloodbowl.

No, they wouldn't. Even as an Ork gargant or Chaos titan, the scale seems off. That, and my Khador 'Jacks seem to loom over my Warhounds, and makes my Warlord seem like a skinny runt.

So no, they don't work well for Epic.

Drakh ships could used quite quickly as Kroot ships, or some new races that actually act like a new race.

Dark Heaven Legends for Mordheim or fantasy

some of the Future Wars models would be good for Necromunda or 40k
