View Full Version : What close combat weapon from the 40k universe would you like to own

Hawkmoon
20-10-2006, 13:44
While looking through my bitz box for something I picked up a CSM chainsword and briefly thought about how cool it would be to own one....A real one.

It would definitely make yard work easier.

In truth it was the chainsword, or more correctly cool looking close weaponry that got me into 40k in the first place. The image of warriors charging into battle with a laser gun in one hand some sort of nasty looking close combat weapon in the other were just too much to pass up.

So what about everyone else; if you could have a real working version of a 40k close combat weapon, what would it be?

Chainsword would probably be the most useful - although the chainaxe does look a lot scarier...

I'd have to go for a banshee executioner, or a biting blade

Hmm... power sword.

All other weapons are overpowered (TH, PF), cannot be comfortably wielded today's humans (almost all of them) or are simply less practical than the power sword (chainsword, bayonet).

Actually, I've changed my mind. I'd go with a monomolecular space marine combat knife. It does not need to be recharged (if we even can recharge WH40k power cells), can be used as a shortsword by an unaugmented human and should be able to cut through almost everything just fine.

lightsaber!!! Oh wait am I on the right forum?

Thunder Hammer - just swining it round and utterly devastating what ever I hit would be cool!

Good one. I should of put the marine knife up on the poll.

A neutral shade of black.
20-10-2006, 14:22
Power knife. A proper knife, not the space marine "so big it's a disproportionate and ***** short sword" knife. Power knives for the win! Being able to use them for anything from combat to cutting bonds to cooking to mounting them on a rifle is ossom.

My vote is for the good old power weapon. Useful for cutting fruit or home defense. :D

20-10-2006, 14:44
If I'm going to own it I'd prefer if it actually works. You know, works with known physics. Rather than sci-fantasy physics that you'd like but would be useless if you had it. Lightsabers, most 40k weapons, magic weapons, etc.

So, standard-issue Guard bayonet.

Son-Of-Sparda
20-10-2006, 14:54
It'd have to be a sexy Eldar weapon; a Banshee power weapon or Witchblade.

Scythe
20-10-2006, 15:00
Hmm, a warscythe would be cool, but pretty unwieldy.

Oh well, then either a c'tan phase sword or a power knife.

My Canoness's master-crafted eviscerator. Chainswords are cool and all, but a two-handed chainsword is twice as cool! :D

chainsword.

20-10-2006, 15:03
I was surprised at how difficult it was for me to come to a decision on my vote...

Before I even opened the thread I was thinking "Chainsword" - but then the rational part of my brain said "You know - chainsaws have kickback guards for a reason..."

Then my easily distracted side said "OOO, Thunderhammer!" and the rational side, "that weighs how much????"

So I settled for the tried and true guard bayonet... and hey! I've already got a couple of those laying around. Does that mean I'm living my 40k dream?

I voted lightning claws. Being able to slice someone in half super fast if they over-charged you for jam is something I always thought was horribly missing from real life. Might be tough to walk around with them though

A chopper would be cool but I could just sharpen a car door and use that on the end of a stick so something I could never make in real life would be the best option.

C'Tan phase sword - all those Callidus assassins can't be wrong. :)

Either that, or the Power Axe the marine on this (http://www.solegends.com/citcat911/c2010smmarines.htm) page (bottom row, second from right as you look at it - Power Axe 2, code number 070110/34) is wielding (and co-incidentally, that model's the sergeant of one of my assault squads ;)).

Much nastier looking than all those blades on the ends of sticks they call power axes these days.:D

Power Fist. For smacking nasty mosquitos and smashing through the walls!

Hideous Loon
20-10-2006, 15:41
A Guard bayonet, it doesn't require fancy power cells, and dead handy. Sure, a powersword would be cool, but I imagine it weighing quite a bit. And lightningclaws, a powerfist and a thunderhammer requires power to run comfortably.

A Marine monomocelular-edged knife wold be sweet, but I don't think I could sharpen it that well, and it's far too big.

Chainsword. My garden needs some serious work.

Da Reddaneks
20-10-2006, 16:18
Well of those choices i picked "Da Choppa!"

But my first choice would be a "looted plasma cannon." that way when it misfired it would not only kill me but the guy standing next to me as well. hmmmm, ok, maybe that would be the weapon i would want to own least.

Yorkiebar
20-10-2006, 16:38
An ancient power sword with a nice energy glow to it - the closest thing in 40K to a lightsaber.

As for power cells, I've never heard of power swords needing to be charged. I assume that they generate their own power from a small ultra-efficient core or something.

EDIT: Power claws, thunder hammers and power fists may be cool, but way too cumbersome for my liking.

Lightning Claws FTW!

Personally, I'd choose Abbadons sword. If only so that I could PROVE it was the voices that told me to do it Granted it'd probably eat me, but the 2-3 milliseconds of ownership it would be cool. More realistically I wouldn't trust myself with a Swiss army knife so would choose the Thunder Hammer due to it being to heavy to lift.

or a Power Fist.

Most definitely, for sheer FxTxWx/FxSxUx, one could never beat the ol' powered blade.

I'd prefer the old kind, that looks like a voulge head, married to a vacuum-cleaner handle, married to a miniature engine block of some sort.

This was known, oddly, as the "power axe".

Other cool thangs would be:

-Nemesis Force Halberd! NEMESIS F@KKIN' FORCE HALBERD!!

-One-shot "drop bolta" that I could concievably hide in an ankle-strap. Like a really overlarge stub/slugga, but with one primed bolt round in the arming chamber. Y'know, for last ditch defense at 3 inches range. Then I just drop it. Or use it to wallop someone.

-Some kind of Artificer-special CC Powermaul...one that folds away handily like those foldaway batons, but that, when I *crink* it out to full extension, can lash the ceramite off an Astartes pauldron. Concealable, and absurdly deadly.

But let's face it, in RL, were I to have any of these, I'd end up injuring myself before anything else happened. Then I'd end up explaining myself to the nice EMT, while they searched for what exactly happened to my leg below the knee...

Remember children, if you hit someone with a power sword, you get in an awful lot of trouble. I'll go for a weapon I can actually use without fear of imprisonment.

*Breaks trend* Dark Eldar Agoniser -EXACTLY.

An Agoniser simply hurts like no-one's business. No permanent damge, no evidence of use. I'd want a nice simple one, mind you - none of these whips or whatnots. Maybe one that looks like a snazzy cane, I could carry it around all day and no-one would be any the wiser.

Get hassled by someone?
Flick the "on" switch, give a gentle poke. Person drops to the floor in agony, but with no physical damage, you can get away scot-free. Lovely.

Really difficult one, as I would absolutely love a chainsword (Bruce Campbell in the 41st millenium... :D ) but my final choice had to be a power weapon or, more pecifically, a power maul.

Just think the idea of it is so cool, plus it can be set to stun and can easily break up any pub-closing brawls!

Accursed Crozius, why you ask? Well, let me tell you.:D

1, It's the same design as a Power Axe/Club/Maul. In other words, it slices through almost anything

2, It summons deamons. HOW COOL IS THAT!! Picture this, you're sitting on your couch and suddenly the army is on your doorstep because there were rumours of you having a curious artifact. Since you are sitting quitte comfortably and you're to lazy to stand up and show them hell, you just snap your fingers and POOF!! 12 near naked deamon-ladies apear before you, ready to do everything you want. Including slicing up some soldiers. (And other things)

3, It comes with a forcefield. Now you don't have to worry about stray bullets being fired when the fight in the scenario above ensues.

Powerfist. One of the compact new ones on the Guard Officers. And in the other hand I'd carry a nice sleek power weapon, useful for parrying or getting a few quicker attacks in...

Poisoned blade or an agoniser, preferably in a spear configuration or failing that, as a nice pair of gauntlets. :D

Chainswords have a certain crude charm, but you can't really beat watching your opponent scream to death as his body slowly burns and liquifies away after you scratched him with your rather poisonous pokey stick.

I'm going to have to say Chainsword/axe.

while there are other, more powerful weapons, there is something delightfully....awesomely..."hardcore" about chainsaw swords (see the CTRL-ALT-DEL comic from a few days ago, it illustrates the point perfectly)

I mean...a chainsaw sword, how AWESOME is that?

EDIT: Drach'nyen would be cool too, a daemon possessed weapon is always hardcore, although it may turn on you.

Sorry i gotta go for the Harlequin's Kiss, whats better than liquidising someones insides. And its wrist mounted, leaving my hands free to carry a rifle/ brace of pistols

I went with power weapon and would choose a power axe, as that looks the coolest to me.

Everyone should forget about boring power fists and swords, what happened to harlequin's kisses? A tube of monomolecular fibres. Brilliant for making smoothies and if you make your own wine...

Master crafted eldar power sword.
Would say a daemon sword if I could be gaurenteed of controlling it all the time without suffering any "ill effects".

The Maugeter.

So I can saw things apart from afar, and from close up >]

(and so I'm different)

That or power blades...since forearm mounted weapons are awesome, and leave my hands free for looting!

If I'm going for realism though, I'll talk a monofilament knife, plzkthx!

the mandiblaster.
face it, its a small gun thats (fairly concealable) shoots exploding plama needles, and is controlled solely by your murderous thoughts.
"wheres your work?"
"Zap!"
"Argh my precious face!!"
"Christ! they blew up!!"
