It is being touted as an "increase in quality".

Lets hope so, and not that it is yet another step in the "death by inches" that is GW's treatment of SG these days...

I didn't even know they had an online magazine.

perhaps this is mearly the hearld of true e-zine, rather then the few paragraps a week we've been getting?

I bloody coco, but if it rivals FIREBASE I'll be surprised...

I somehow doubt it. But perhaps it would allow Andy to do other things (like find some epic moulds :)) ...

Nothing suprising here. They reduce the service and call it improvement.

Oh yes, that monthly handful of articles is far better than a dedicated magazin for every specialist game!

I tell you what will happen. Shortly before Christmas they will pull two or three of the games to concentrate of the quality of the remaining ones...

Have fun,

Rolf.

ANd I actually thought the articles were improving!

So i'm guessing that the guys complaining about this news are all regular article contributors to the SG site?

Well, I would, but my specialist-game-playing has gone down since I moved to London... so I can't really contribute. :p

No, I am a former customer of Specialist Games. I bought a lot of stuff when they promised to keep the lines alive. Too bad that they need externals to write their stuff for them. For what do you need Specialist Games if they simply publish fan articles?

I can accept that they do not want to continue that part of their range, but then they should be honest about it.

Have fun,

Rolf.

Sadly that is the case.

As for those of you bitching about 'a few paragraphs a week' get offa yerself. Andy is the ONLY person in SG right now effectively. His partner, Jervis, hasn't touched SG for months (year plus?) at this point, as WD and other projects are taking a severe toll on all of his work hours.

There are 5 games in the SG range, and ONE man supporting them. Could you support 5 SERIOUSLY different systems alone? No? Didn't think so.

Andy does what one man can. The fact GW hasn't nuked any of the 5 yet is actually impressive. Current GW policy makes it VERY hard to play SG games.

I'm a LARGE fan of the SG range. I play Mordheim, a lot. I've got enough mordheim crap to run a tourney by myself. (That's including providing warbands to the players!) But, there is a SINGLE night a month you are allowed to play it there. Maybe. (Assuming something else doesn't get in the way of it, like a GW event, or upper management showing up.)

Any other night, even if all of the tables are empty, you can't play SG stuff. It's quite lame, honestly. I'm not delusinal. SG won't take priority over anything else in the range, but what looks better, honestly? A Table covered with terrain and two detailed warbands tactically hunting each other down, or an empty table with nobody doing anything at it? Yeah, I thought so.

Well a key thing is that we try and contribute. I suppose that along with supporting Firebase (and exposing 40k players to SG games), we could send in all our articles to SG to have them go oh well then looks like there are a few who still care, well then we will continue to ignore them.

We try where we can.

I was going to contribute to the SG website. I understand what andy's going through - going through the same thing with FIREBASE myself.

By the way, if anyone wants to contribute anything to firebase just say ;)

I'm going to opitmistically stick my neck out and suggest (or rather, hope against hope!) that spending less time compiling Fanatic on-line will mean Andy will be able to spend time ensuring things like Epic Chaos & Nids, Dwarf Blood Bowl Team, Mars BFG Fleet, and other things we've been promised but have so far not seen, are actually released this isde of rapture...

So this week is "a taster to what’s coming"? Oh goody. We're going to get flashily-formatted articles chock full of basic spelling and grammar mistakes, and we're getting them in 1/4 of the volume that we did before. 12 shoddy articles a month with one that stands out is bearable. 3 shoddy articles a month with 4 that stand out every year isn't.

FoM just became more of a waste of time than it was before. As usual, "Improved quality" for GW means more flashy pictures and a steady decline in substance.

EDIT: Case in point, what's an "Inquisitor campampaign"?

Its crap, but I've grown used to it at this point. I used to put a lot of time and effort into the SGs forums, I playtested for several of the epic army lists, most of which still havent been put out in any official manner despite tonns of time and effort on some seriously creative and dedicated fan's parts. I doubt this is anything more than a further cutback of support disengenuisly dressed up as another improvement that we should laud GW for, " Thanks GW your the Best Ever!!!!"

I remember smelling the Doom of SGs looong ago, I just didnt realise what a slow and tortorious Death of a thousand cutbacks it truely was going to be.

I've had three articles and one campaign published by Fanatic On-line so far, with one in the pipeline. My hope is that we'll see monthly content for all five SGs, rather than having a rotation.

I've not looked at Firebase, but I'll be along shortly.

I thought "WE paid GW to make the games and the rules", not "WE pay GW and do all the playtesting/articles etc for them??!"

Well said Ape, thats one of my gripes as well, it like the next step is having to go to Englad and physically put the Money in GWs pocket.
Seriously I used to feel like I needed to wear a hat with all the receipts of stuff I've bought at GW on my head while I"m gaming or talking to people/ reps about the lack of support to even stand a chance, " Oh That is a Mighty big receipt for our products your wearing there! But look it wasnt bought this week, I'm afraid that hats expired, so sad, if you'll just go up to the counter and purchase a like amount of product perhaps we can think about supporting your Games again!" Now I wonder if I need to carry fresh written background and content articles for submittal as well.

neither did I.......you learn somthing new every day huh?

Given the vast amount of play time I get on the Specialist stuff (about two years since my Inquisitor got out of his box), I'm unlikley to ever get a chance to do another submission, which is a damn shame.

I'm still narked at getting shuffled around the houses so it went out after they stopped giving you a free copy of the mag it is printed in (because by that time there was no mag).

I'd rather see updates of the infantry personally, but like hell if that will ever happen. I'm glad people still love Epic though, everyone iv met in person where I live never found it interesting.
