Like oh so many peeps on here I too have been a avid watcher of Deadlys great efforts and unmeasurable project log.
Heres the story I have bought to date 1000 points of Tau with forge world crisis suits ( not touch the crap GW have produced for crisis suits)
here a quick and bad pic of the small tau force I have.

The basis for the force is something to use more sololy as a cities of death army not so much the other 40k formatts.

Here is the first test model:

I painted it using my new vallejo paint set I bough a few months ago ( first ever model using vallejo too)

Give me some feedback before I venture on.
Also you may notice the lack of devil fish, hammerheads and skyrays, I hate the models I am Impie guard at heart and if it don't come with catipilar track I hate it.

bring on the critism :)

22-10-2006, 04:02
i do like, but wouldnt he stick out on a snow world, as the base implies?

22-10-2006, 04:04
It looks nice, good colour scheme there, that and the red on the lenses really stand out which is a good thing. Bah i wish i could order the tau forge world crisis suits, they still look so cool.....

22-10-2006, 04:04
They are on a world in the beginnings of spring where snow is melting and fresh greenery is growing

22-10-2006, 12:00
looks good, i like the test model, and good luck with the rest of the force, you might find it hard to use no skimmers though, look forward to seeing more progess, especially all those FW battlesuits

22-10-2006, 13:04
Didn't realize that they had suits that matched every season of the year...

Nice painting job though

22-10-2006, 14:19
yeah, i like it too, i especially liek the fact you've changed the colour on the shoulder pads. if there is one thing i hate about the 'eavy metal 'brown' version is that that's all it is.
also, i think it;s a cool idea that they have been fighting through the winter, and the snow and ice melts and they are still fighting, like WW1 whenthe winter months would see a decrease in campaign activity.
good job - i should go vallejo but i just haven't got the stones :)

22-10-2006, 15:33
I was actually expecting like 5 armies at once. But lots of tau is good. and lots of mechs =D

23-10-2006, 23:35
Quick update heres the next victim "cough" sorry I mean willing volunteer:

Any quick tips before I start sometime tomorrow or antt questions?

24-10-2006, 01:47
we use the same superglue! i think, 'grip' thick is it? the cap is hardly inconspicuous huh?! lol.
i really like the FW battlesuits, more vibrant, rounded and futuristic. i always see GWbattlesuits as a tau alternative to sentinels - and not a very good one but i like the look of the FW one. aside from the touch of flash down the right shoulderpad he looks ready to go - TBH i don't think you ught to worry about the flash, onece painted and the area highlighted it'll not be noticeable.
looking forward to the finished article.

24-10-2006, 02:50
Yes the glue is Grip to the right on the suit you can just make out a second pot.

I tried removing the flash but found that detail was being lost so I thought sod it may try turn the flash into battle damage but not sure yet.

Also for you FW junkies here are the other 4 suits I have minus 2 which I am yet to buy:

heres a closer look at my broadsides:

A second XV89 crisis suit ( I know they are only meant to be for commanders but I and using them as standard suits)

24-10-2006, 03:13
And finally my Commander:

Also please note the base are bought and not made by me (too lazy)

Nice work on the suits, I want paint on em!

24-10-2006, 09:45
yeah c'mon lets get some paint on this stuff

24-10-2006, 12:34
is that minas tirith in the background?!
i seriously want to see this stuff painted. after your test fig i know it'll rock.

24-10-2006, 20:31
As demanded I have applied the first colour, will do the khaki later once my batli has arrived and in my belly!!!

And yes that is Minith Tirith in the back ground

24-10-2006, 20:37
They look sweet mate :) All them FW goodies ,Looking forward to seeing some of them painted.

OMFG LOL HAHA ::D:D:D:D although im a litle disturbed to what the browny stuff on the side of the plate is ?

24-10-2006, 22:13
bombay potato

24-10-2006, 22:17
what colour you stuck on that battlesuit? looks too deep to be catachan green, shine some light?

24-10-2006, 22:18
it is extra dark greeny from the vallejo collection

25-10-2006, 02:12
Well here we go the first finished battle suit all left to do is wait for the snow to dry and add a little grass and done:

25-10-2006, 03:57
A whole army like that is going to look amazing. Actually, that's the best colour scheme I've seen on Tau, it's nice and subtle.

25-10-2006, 03:59
wow that looks awesome. I like the bases a lot

25-10-2006, 22:28
ok i need help what shall I do next another fw goodie (and which one) or maybe something else either a stealth suit, kroot, or a vespid

25-10-2006, 23:00
vespid or kroot

25-10-2006, 23:24
I'd like to see what you'd do with a Kroot to fit in with the colour scheme, but whatever you want to do best is good enough for the viewers. :) By the way, the colour scheme looks great so far, especially for Tau. Keep the good work up.

26-10-2006, 00:36
Yeah, going with kroot, even cooler if you converted them so they had vague sashes with that armor color.

26-10-2006, 00:48
Quick update heres the next victim "cough" sorry I mean willing volunteer:

we use the same superglue! i think, 'grip' thick is it? the cap is hardly inconspicuous huh?! lol.SC

I thought that was a damn road cone, hence the word victim! Now I feel stupid...

Fantastic work, love the armour scheme.

26-10-2006, 01:06
Well it looks like its kroot next but here are the next 3 minis I will paint before I start batch painting.
The kroot peeps want to see:

The first vespid:

And the first stealth suit:

But before I start anyone got Idea on how I can paint the kroot and still hsvr unity with the army, and ideas for the stealth suit.

26-10-2006, 09:19
I like how this army is coming along, so keep up the hard work.

26-10-2006, 11:57
But before I start anyone got Idea on how I can paint the kroot and still hsvr unity with the army, and ideas for the stealth suit.

The colour scheme from the first test tau could be used for the kroot pretty well (I think, best to do a test model first) by using on of the colours for the main body of the kroot and the other for the head quill(?) things. Like I said though, do a test model and use the green on the main body of one and the same with the lighter creamy colour.

Stealth suit would look great in the origional armour scheme but with a greater focus on the darker green.

Then again, everyman his own.

26-10-2006, 16:33
You know these are a different species... and mercenaries.. why should they match?

Yes cohessiveness but a dark green would suit there stealthy nature or something incredibly vibrant to reflect there violent tendancies....

27-10-2006, 20:36
Well here the first photos of a half painted kroot:

I am taking a break as gf has returned from work.

Will be using gw paint from this point onwards as the colours I am trying for I only know how to get from the gw range but will be looking to see if I can vallejo it.

27-10-2006, 21:45
Very nice, it looks promising. I didn't know whether the green would work for the main body but it's turned out a lot better than I thought. The bone coloured parts compliment it well. Well done. :)

27-10-2006, 21:52
Yeah the non green bits work nicely. Very interested in seeing the finished model.

27-10-2006, 22:24
You've done a fantastic job on the Kroot, both coherant but fitting for the individual species.

Congrats on getting it to work.

28-10-2006, 00:37
Here we go the gf was kind enough to allow me to finish the kroot.

You feeling lucky:

well what do ya think?

And what next Stealth suit or vespid?

28-10-2006, 02:24
stealth suit definato

bobert the great clen one
28-10-2006, 02:26
what green did u use?

28-10-2006, 02:28
Vallejo Black green (model colour) then use lemon yellow for the highlights

bobert the great clen one
28-10-2006, 02:30
ok thanks how do the vallejo metals work then?

28-10-2006, 02:32
No the metalic on the kroot are gw, the crisis suit is half and half. I am still getting use to them GW metals are far easier

bobert the great clen one
28-10-2006, 02:47
o ok well im looking to paint a bunch or my marines a dark gritty camo look (dark greens working up to a lighter green )

28-10-2006, 02:49
then black green, german camo dark, military green, lemon yellow and thinner is a place to start (all model colour)

bobert the great clen one
28-10-2006, 02:50
how do these work on awhite undercoaty

28-10-2006, 02:51
don't know never done it! I only work off black

bobert the great clen one
28-10-2006, 02:53
ok s d i but i got bought a can of white by mistake u should be able to get some soon but i wanted to know if it was any diffferent before i wasted spray lol

28-10-2006, 02:55
I don't know never use vallejo on white and yes painting on white will produce cleaner brighter colours. where black will produce a darker, and sometime dirtier colours

bobert the great clen one
28-10-2006, 03:01
how many coats doen it genrally take for you to paint the green like that?

28-10-2006, 03:04
one base of black green, then 3 of the lemon yellow added in more quantities (one drop per high light) with a 1:1 dilution ratio with thinner ( eg 1 drop of colour to 1 drop of vallejo thinner)

bobert the great clen one
28-10-2006, 03:05
and how many gold piecies is this 'thinner ' you speak of?

28-10-2006, 14:39
same prices as the paint

28-10-2006, 15:26
The Kroot looks even better finished, the colourscheme works well for it. I'm gonna have to second the vote for the stealthsuit, it's something else I'd like to see the colourscheme on. Keep up the good work. :)

28-10-2006, 15:53
The stleatsuit it is then! Unfortunately I am working tonight so won't be able to get started on it.

so any suggestions?

bobert the great clen one
28-10-2006, 16:03
:( i reckon you should try a distorted look or a suit just regaining its form

28-10-2006, 16:08
and how do you suggested I do that, lighter or microwave?

bobert the great clen one
28-10-2006, 16:13
haha i dont know but i figured more skilled painters will be able to give u tips :D

28-10-2006, 17:50
I'm not a fan of the "half-invisible" look, as if I remember right, the stealth suits just distort your vision, they don't have active camo.

What I'd suggest, is perhaps including more black on the model, to make it seem more stealthy.

or, just do it like the normal battlesuit.

Either way, they look ace, keep it up! :)

28-10-2006, 21:27
I was toying with the idea of a Tau army and this was the colourscheme I was gonna use - slightly altered from the cities of death book - guess is back to the drawing board

Excellent work so far though - loving the fw suits.

29-10-2006, 00:15
A very nice tau army this shall be. You may have mentioned this but where do you get the bases?

29-10-2006, 02:20
I buy the base off an ebay company call foundations of war, they produce great resin bases for great prices eg 10 standard bases (all different for around £3) the 60mm cost £1.99.:
they are great!

29-10-2006, 03:33
Ahh thanks as i too am too lazy to do any good bases.

29-10-2006, 19:54
Well I have painted the suit but I feel a bit disappointed don't think i have done the model justice. (photo following shortly)

quick edit while I am finishing the base it is slowly growing on me but your replies will set me straight

29-10-2006, 20:48
Here We go the long awaited for pics:

Ok hit me with your comments!!!

29-10-2006, 20:58
great colour cheme, it really brings out the detail on the models - the standard black paint scheme dulls everything down. Great models, with a paint job that does them justice.

And i love the base - is that baking soda/pva mix?

29-10-2006, 21:02
the snow is gw snow/pva/water mix

29-10-2006, 21:26
ok next vote, shall I paint the vespid, the broadside, or the commander

29-10-2006, 22:51
Braodsied dude. Really wanna see how you do the railguns.

29-10-2006, 23:01
Broadside it is may start tomoz.

But what about the stealthsuit?

29-10-2006, 23:01
Commander, can't beat a hero type.

Edit: Curses! Broadside it is... I'm still gona be on the lookout for that commander though >= \

29-10-2006, 23:06
Ok I have two votes one for the broad side one for the commander as long as the next ain't the vespid I may change my mind!

30-10-2006, 00:31
Broadside! I vote broadside!

30-10-2006, 00:39
Ok scorpio you win!!

But whats your thoughts on the stealth suit!

30-10-2006, 01:14
I win! I Win! I never win how much money do i get?;)

30-10-2006, 01:20
I need more feedback on stealth suit. please I have only had one not sure if it is good.

please praise me, I need praise!!!!

30-10-2006, 02:19
The stealthsuit looks awesome! Now broadside broadside!

30-10-2006, 14:24
Ok Broadside will not have a chance to start until maybe tomorrow but not sure working quite a bit this week!!

30-10-2006, 17:13
Don't worry, your stealthsuit is fantastic. :)

Brush your teeth
30-10-2006, 17:24
yeah, the stealthsuit looks nice, the feathering on the green works especially well.

31-10-2006, 00:50
Ok this is the broadside out of the two I have I will test paint:

But it maybe not until wednesday I will get time to start it as I have just arrived home from work to find one of my pet rats dead and tomorrow before work I will have to bury it.
If I get up early enough I my have time to do both but I am a lazy git so I doubt it.

So I will instead ask if there are any tips or how I should paint this one e.g. special details etc etc give you the read a more interactive theme to the broadside

04-11-2006, 15:52
Well I have been unfortunatley bee to busy to paint. I think I have a day and I get called up to do supply work.
But after going to my not so close Games workshop store in Swansea and meeting someone who has seen this log I have been inspired to try and paint and bit before I go to work today so heres a quick update:

well what you think

04-11-2006, 17:09
Looks good! Keep it uP!!! I'm stealing your scheme for my brothers Tau Army!! I am going to have to order some FW Battle Suits though! They look great!

05-11-2006, 03:45
Well I won't take you to court about it, now thats a compliment and a half someone using my scheme on there own army. Big grin.

06-11-2006, 22:35
Well here some pictures of the finished broadside:

Well what do you think?

Also for those using this scheme too please post your pics so I can see you results.

06-11-2006, 22:49
these are shaping up really nice it'd be good to see some pics on a plain background.

06-11-2006, 23:00
What does a plain back ground do?

06-11-2006, 23:02
it'll alow people to see the mini's clearly without the clutter in the background. just a sheet of paper will do.:)

06-11-2006, 23:31
Or a solid colored wall. The suit looks nice. I find even on a terrain board the pics look good.(depending on the varying colors of the terrain of course)

07-11-2006, 00:10
Well bowing to plain background demands heres the best pic I can do, for some reason the picture quality has dropped compared to the other pics (any tips with picture taking will provide a picture of how I am setting up my area.

Any advice?

07-11-2006, 01:23
I tend to do a white sheet with a pillow behind it to hold it up. I photograph under two lamps on the mini and one aimed at the celling. Here is what the photos look like. I'll try and get a pic of the setup for you as well.

Also the sheet will leave no gaps in the white, unlike paper where there is a line between each sheet.

07-11-2006, 13:23
Heres my Photo set up .I use A1 paper for the big things and the A4 for single figures,I have a Guide on how to take better pictures etc Pm your email address or MSN if you use it (MSN would be btter as the file is big)and I will try and send you it
plus Ive got a photo cube ,Which I should start to use ;) and I use this program to enhance and crop the pictures http://google.picasa.com/
I hope this helps.

07-11-2006, 14:34
your setup looks fine mate, what you need to do is crop the pics and possibly do individual mini's at a time. the link deadly has given you should make this easy.

07-11-2006, 18:35
I love the scheme for these...still militaristic, but has enough color to look high tech!

09-11-2006, 01:30

well heres my next test the vespid only half done most of the black will be a green colour but not sure what colour I should do the gun, so any suggestions?

09-11-2006, 03:12
Was hoping my 100th reply would be from you lot but it is 3am so I will excuse you :P . Any way I have basically finished the vespid bar the gun still stuck on that and also the colour scheme of the vespid seems to be lacking something but I can put My finger on it here have a look:

09-11-2006, 03:29
A really bloody/brownish red...really subtle, small highlights.

09-11-2006, 03:34
Ok you mean the gun a redish colour but not sure about by really subtle small highlights where on what?

09-11-2006, 03:35
Sorry, I should have been clearer. I meant a darkish red on the guns, but make sure the highlights are really small and subtle. I think a real "glowey" looking red would screw up the more realistic style of the rest of the model :)

09-11-2006, 03:38
so you're saying a moe terracota colour? An earthy colour? Will study my vallejo set to see if I can do that if not better dig out the GW!

Cheers frost

09-11-2006, 03:42
You could even take blood red and mix it with chaos black as your basecoat/shade, and highlight up to pure blood red as your highlight.

09-11-2006, 03:46
Well I have found my base in the vallejo set and even possible the highlights gonna use your idea but go more brown than red but should end up looking more red tahn brown.

Cheers Frost was think red but thought it may not work unil you hit nail on the head with the shade!!!

09-11-2006, 03:58
Cool man, good luck!

09-11-2006, 18:11
Well heres the vespid with gun a nice red colour:

Well the commander is next!

but what you think of the vespid

bobert the great clen one
09-11-2006, 18:15
:O:O:O:O omfg ! may i ask that vespids hand(claw thing) in marrage

09-11-2006, 23:33
Well heres the next model the commander:

I plan to do the green as normal but where the cream would be I am going to paint white instead. Good idea or not?

Any suggestions?

10-11-2006, 00:30
Maybe on the white but since hes the commander maybe introduce alittle gold. The vespid looks awesome especially the gun!

10-11-2006, 01:24
How do mean scorpio, I find gold and white don't go together very easily!

10-11-2006, 02:37
Oh sorry i didnt mean in the white i meant on the model. I would say keep the cream just so he maintains your armies color.

10-11-2006, 18:09
Well I have decided to stick with my orginal colour idea! Sorry scorpio!
Green Armour with white parts!

10-11-2006, 20:07
Nice execution on that gun!

10-11-2006, 20:12
Is it how you pictured it.

10-11-2006, 21:19
Its quite fine. Just an idea.

10-11-2006, 21:24
Is it how you pictured it.

Yep. Pretty much exactly.

10-11-2006, 23:29
well the vespid is too be repainted as used dullcoat and has messed up the finish completely

11-11-2006, 03:36
Did it just grey it out and dull it too much?

If you spray it over with gloss, let it dry, then spray that LIGHTLY with matte, it might fix it :)

11-11-2006, 12:53
complete white out of all paint

11-11-2006, 16:50
Awesome vespid, i never seen one up close before, is that how teh head is supposed to look like? or did you convert it.

11-11-2006, 17:00
yes the vespid is straight out of box, but the paint job is gone due to dullcote cock up

12-11-2006, 03:32
Well heres a quick update 2 half painted models the repaint of the vespid and my commader:

What do you think?

12-11-2006, 03:41
I like it. :) Keep it up.

12-11-2006, 20:39
Well the Vespid I cocked up is finally redone:

well I won't be using dullcote on it until I get some practice in.

12-11-2006, 20:40
And Now for the final model before I really start the Deadley speed painting, The commander:

So what do you of the Commander?

Scorpio you happy?

12-11-2006, 21:39
Wow I love that commander, especially the blue on the main gun. This is an outstanding army, keep up the excellent work:D

13-11-2006, 01:51
Well heres a group shot of the lot:

Tomorrow as long as I am not called up for supply work I am going to paint the final 2 FW crisis suits then I have 23 Fire warriors, 15 Kroot, 5 stealth suits and 5 Vespids

13-11-2006, 02:02
The group shot looks sweet mate ,Keep up the good :)

13-11-2006, 02:08
Looking good! Nice work not letting the dullcote incident get you down...Ive had that happen to me with primer and let it destroy my motivation for a project :)

bobert the great clen one
13-11-2006, 02:46
it could be the pic of the commander but the white looks a little chalky , sad o hear about the vespid but im glad you returned it to its former glory:p

13-11-2006, 02:53
Think its just the pic of the commander bob.

Cheers for all the compliments

bobert the great clen one
13-11-2006, 02:54
ok :D have u sorted the dull coat out now?

13-11-2006, 12:09
No have not had cahnce to practice yet but I will soon.

13-11-2006, 20:58
Sorry havent posted here in alittle bit.
The group shot looks really sweet man. One thing(this is just a minor suggestion) on the commander, he has two of the tau symbols and they are both painted all white maybe for the little circle make it green? My 2 cents.

13-11-2006, 21:32
I see what your saying but I am done now and if I go back I will only cock it up.

13-11-2006, 22:00
Here we go a quick update with todays painting efforts:

13-11-2006, 22:15
i do like, but wouldnt he stick out on a snow world, as the base implies?

Maybe he's useing the star wars storm troopers tactic, let them be scared.

The models i've seen so far have looked cool, but i haven't seen 'em all yet...

13-11-2006, 23:35
it's an awesome effect you have on the green, how do you do it?
i'm really loving the battlesuits, so much more interesting than a typical GW one.

Well it is hard to describe without either physically showing you or telling you in person.
But What I do is first coat the necessary area in the darkest green, I next choose a slightly lighter green and then paint lines away from the edge of the green area (making all the lines go the same way) then using a yellow I mix drop by drop for 3 highlights usinf the same tachnique as before but not going as far from the line with each highlight.

Sorry if that don't make sense but it would either be easier to show you or just tell you in person.

14-11-2006, 02:05
Well it is 2 am I think its time for a early night need my beauty sleep.
Here a pic of where I am.
I have one more colour to finish the cream areas then alls left is cleaning up and the fiddly bits:

14-11-2006, 02:44
Looking cool. Sleep well!;)

14-11-2006, 03:10
Hm... I didn't realize the vespid heads looked so wierd.

14-11-2006, 16:40
Vespid heads are only weird compared to that lovely drawing of a Vespid stingwing...

15-11-2006, 02:45
Guess what....

More Pics:

They are almost complete all that is left is the metalics, snow and some black llining.

Well what you think?

15-11-2006, 07:19
Do you plan on doing any of the tau markings on these guys? Some of the white areas like the chest on that broadside are a bit plain, maybe a few of those barcode looking markings would make it pop more :)

Really well done otherwise :)

15-11-2006, 15:56
No not going to do sept marking unless someone can photo shop some examples on to my tau then I may change my mind

15-11-2006, 16:50
Ok in the next week or two the Tau will be finish, although not the whole 1500pts I am planning the over 500 points which will be a skyray, fw tetras, snipers, and one more FW broadside and FW XV89 crisis suit.
But now is the time time to do another Deadlel like thing.
When I started 40k I started with Eldar, so in preparation for the Eldars release I sold all my 2nd and 3rd ed models one so I can buy some epic but also so I can start again with the new eldar with my imporved painting skills.
So I waited until today when a new independent out near me and went out and bought the Eldar army set and order a FW Avatar:

Dying to get started but will w8 until Tau are complete.

The plan is to build a unit and paint the unit before I go on, will start with the wraithlord, but will buy the spures need to to turn the falcon in to a wave

15-11-2006, 17:50
Dying to get started but will w8 until Tau are complete.Good man. Hang in there! Starting another project before I finish the first is always what kills stuff for me, because you get that initial rush of excitement and the old thing that you've been working on for ages seems a tedious grind in comparison.

15-11-2006, 18:08

oh... i think i see now cheers :)
the suits look great, though i envy your ability to stick with a project!

15-11-2006, 20:10
Was the crisis suit leg easy to reposition the knee on, or was it tricky? Though I don't play Tau I'm tempted to pick up a battlesuit for the hell of it since the posing options look like fun.

15-11-2006, 21:55
The suits look really awesome as usual. What colors are you planning on painting your eldar in? A pre-existing craftworld or a new one?

15-11-2006, 23:00
Was the crisis suit leg easy to reposition the knee on, or was it tricky? Though I don't play Tau I'm tempted to pick up a battlesuit for the hell of it since the posing options look like fun.

The crisis suits are Forge World and come in possible parts unlike the crappy GW ones.

Hey scorpio trying to avoid thinking too mcuh about the eldar right now it is hard enough leaving them alone. As for the craftworld will probably be My own but unsure if I will GW paint them or Vallejo paint them.

But back to the Tau I have just got back from my local gaming club and used the 1000 points of Tau I have, the game started off very scary I couldn't win a roll my enermy got the pick side, decided who sets up first and also get the first turn.
All this time I could feel my butt hole quacking with nerves but the space marines faulted I came back to sluaghter my enermy. Yes I lost 16 Kroot, a stealth suit and 3 Tau but I came back wiped out an asssalt squad, tactical squad, scout squad.
But I do need to get hold of a skyray to lay down long range fire power with a few tetras marker lighting the enermy.

Tonight I am going to touch the undercoat of 11 Tau Fire warriors and if I get up early enough tomorow before work I will start layering on the paint.

15-11-2006, 23:43
Ah, forgot that FW make regular battlesuits as well as those nice rounded ones.

I really like your Tau color scheme - it seems to straddle the line between anime-style and realistic colors well.

16-11-2006, 00:03
Forge World suits are meant to be used as Commanders or body guards and not regular crisis suits but so far noone has complained stating WYSIWYG.

Maus your the second person to refer to anime, I don't see it myself but yet again I don't watch alot of anime.

bobert the great clen one
16-11-2006, 00:15
wolfie i say to start one unit fo eldar inbetween a unit of tau so tau-eldar-tau sorta thing that way you wont get bored of either lol

16-11-2006, 00:27
Well bob I could kiss you, I just did something really dumb I opened the damn army box and sifted through the contents and boyo I can't wait.
I am so excited I don't know where to start, all I do know is this:
1: My Dragons will be painted green not red
2: When I get striking scorpions they will be brownie red
3: I don't know what to arm the Dire Avenger exarch with

And now to prevent boredom and frustration Bobert has hit the nail on the head to do my Tau and Eldar at the same time. It didn't even cross my mind.

bobert the great clen one
16-11-2006, 00:34
*blushes* lol i reckon you should make the squad exarch with the twin catapults for coolness factor :p also you should make one hand(if u choose the configureation ) poiting as in hes directing his avengers to blast the poo outta the target (add bladestorm aswell :p)

16-11-2006, 00:36
Also I have 2 Eldar codexs anyone wanna buy it?

bobert the great clen one

17-11-2006, 00:14
already done just making sure

17-11-2006, 02:08
Just to keep you guys up to date here what I have done today:

I did no painting before work as I am living with my Father and he really wound me up but did these after I got home from work.

Tomorrow Gears of War for the X360 comes out so I fear I may not get much painting done as I have been wait for months for this game to be released.

Also I have order a bonesinger and the wave serpent sprue to turn the Falcon into a wave serpent from GW.

17-11-2006, 02:43
I can attest to the fact that you won't get much done. Us here in the america's have had it for about a week, and it rocks!

Is the yellow eventually going to turn into the green armour? Or are the firewarriors a different colour set from the suits?

17-11-2006, 02:53
Id like to see that streaky highlight effect that you use on your Tau used on some Eldar!

GoW is fricking awesome, but take breaks to work on your tau!

17-11-2006, 12:19
The yellow will become the cream colour

Well off out to get GoW please don't be sold out

17-11-2006, 17:48

Next update here see the yellow became cream

17-11-2006, 17:53
Nice, liking those tau. Keep up the good work.

17-11-2006, 21:27
The fire warriors are going to looks awesome man!

17-11-2006, 22:52
The Fire warriors will be complete in the next few days so I have been think about the eldar, here's an Idea I have had for the Fire Dragons:

What do ya think any suggestions?

Still have trouble desiding of craftworld colours!!!!!

17-11-2006, 23:05
Heres some Craftworld ideas I have had:

Again any suggestions?

17-11-2006, 23:09
And again this is the idea I have had for the Scorpions

please any suggestions, colour scheme etc etc

17-11-2006, 23:17
Wow all of your craftworld schemes are pretty sweet, my favorites are in the middle post with two schemes, Im pretty split between the red/white and the lightblue/darkblue. If I had to choose one it would be the red and white, looks fantastic! Once you get some feedback you should paint up some test models so we can get a real 3d taste.

17-11-2006, 23:58
I must admit I'm not personally a fan of the undersuit color and contrasting plate colour style of painting Eldar, but both those craftworld schemes are quite nice. Reversing the usual Scorpion/Dragon colour schemes is a brave move but it could come off, chunk's Fire Dragons (http://warseer.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1054537&postcount=1) are a nice demonstration of how it can come off. That being said, the orangy-red he's used on the bodies works really well with the green.

18-11-2006, 00:18
The reason for swapping the colour schemes is to be different and in really life scorpions come in a range of colours like blacks and browns.
The green fire dragons helmet is of concern not sure if it should be another colours other than white.

The two craftworld schemes are ok but still not happy so anyone got suggestions.

18-11-2006, 00:28
Had this thought for the fire dragons too:

A molten look!

18-11-2006, 00:29
Well, you could make the Fire Dragons helmets red, that way you keep part of the 'traditional' scheme while still doing a very different take on them. I think they need the strength a red or orange will provide; just green and white would make them feel a little weak. You could also consider doing something similar for the Scorpions, maybe green helmets to lighten the reds and browns somewhat.

I totally see where you're coming from with regards to the colours scorpions actually come in, but it's also important to remember that any colour scheme will be an interpretation (on the Eldar's part) of that creature's nature, and ultimately they're humanoid warriors with all that entails. I suppose what I'm saying is, don't be afraid to make the right artistic decisions, even if they lead you away from a strict adherence to a particular scheme you may have set out for yourself.

18-11-2006, 00:32
One thing I am avoid is following what GW set out as rules or "fluff" I want to avoid this.

Got the old codexs lying around some where may have to dig in up to see some older schemes

bobert the great clen one
18-11-2006, 01:20
well cap wolfie i too have began to walk the path of the warrior(just ordered some eldar lol)

18-11-2006, 01:46
Yes but what colours you going for?

18-11-2006, 03:03

hers what I have done so far/
Will split them in half for the next painting step

Daemon king Mad Dog
18-11-2006, 10:26
They are some cool looking tau, i like the guy whos kneeling at the front, it looks like his gun is slightly lowered as if he's just took aim at an big ugly monster, but lowered his aim and began to scream, he he he...

18-11-2006, 10:34
I'm in two minds regarding the Tau's scheme, I really like it on the commander and the firewarriors but I think the Broadsides actually looked better in the WIP picture when there was more black on them - I think its due to them looking heavier and more like a Tank with the dark green and black plates and the two large guns.
Perhaps when you get round to doing actual tanks you might want to experiment a bit with some darker colours alongside the green as well, I don't know if the cream will look as good in large amounts on something much larger than a suit.

18-11-2006, 12:19
Tastyfish, I am not doing tanks but I may do one but possible not at all.

dave is the best
18-11-2006, 14:31
sorry, but i can not buy the codex due to lack of funds

18-11-2006, 19:16
im going the ultwe path mate ig ot my avengers today im gona spend loads of time on them though i am going with the stadard colour sheme for the aspects but ultwe-ised will post pics wen i got a model done

19-11-2006, 20:44
I really like the scheme you picked for your fire dragons but a little red would make them look much more molten. As for a craftworld color scheme the red and white one seems best to me.

20-11-2006, 01:31
Well here a quick update I am close to completing the fire warriors all that is left to do is the whites, reds, metallics and the base:

And for the Eldar I have decided on this scheme for the Fir Dragons:

And when I get them this scheme for the scorpions:

For all you fluff lovers I know these are not the way the fluff describes there colourings but I never read the fluff much and prefer to go my own way.

Although I am still at logger heads with the craftworld colours.

If the Avatar don't turn up before I start the eldar I will start with the Fire Dragons.

20-11-2006, 01:43
Since you have changed the color schemes to pretty bright ones for the dragons and scorpions i would suggest a more subdued craftworld color scheme so that the other player's eyes are drawn to your aspect warriors and your other can sneak by!

(But i seriously would recommend a more subdued craftworld scheme)

20-11-2006, 01:48

Scorpio if you read back a bit you will see that the aspect schemes are not new but were first choices before the molten fire dragon scheme

This pic is not the right shade I want the scorpions to be a dark earth browns and red so they can stalk their prey

20-11-2006, 23:23
Well here they are the fire warriors complete:

Ok what do you think?

Now I get to start a Eldar unit and as said before its gonna be the fire dragons.

20-11-2006, 23:26
Looking good Captain_Wolverine. I stole your scheme for your Tau to paint my 1500 point force later in my project. Right now I have 4 armies to do before they get done. Hopefully you and Deadley can keep me inspired?

20-11-2006, 23:51
Wow someone is using my log as inspiration, Astador plz post you results asap or even a test model would be cool.

Don't be afraid to ask how I did some or what colours I used.

Boy my ego has grown now, not sure if I can get my head through the door.

21-11-2006, 00:01
Hahah, to bad you hadn't inspired me to build them! lol I love the FW suits but I am putting out for an DK army, so I can't afford more FW that that! lol

I'll do a teaser when I get home from work tonight for ya. I started the commander awhile ago. I haven't quite decided on bases yet.

21-11-2006, 00:56
@Captain_Wolverine- I know i meant that you changed them from the GW suggested ones at that you probably want this to be reflected by having your opponents focus go to them.

21-11-2006, 01:05
I see what your saying scorpio but i'd prefer them to fire at the guardians so maybe a bright and shining colour scheme with flashing lights and sirens

21-11-2006, 01:23
I like that idea.

My other idea is yourself, Deadley, and I form a Triuverant and once we all finish say um 4000 points of models(deadley has probably done over that) we find a way to play a game. I think that could be like wow. lol

21-11-2006, 01:28
Well Astador you would have to get to the UK then we would then have to either come to where I live or where Deadley lives to play the game, but boy that would be great game and hellishly fun.

Shame Deadley don't play!!

21-11-2006, 01:34
I think we could make him play. Haha and goin to the UK is no problem for me. I'll make it a trip from Munich! lol
I'll bring 2000pts of DK and 2000pts Armoured Company! haha

But it would be wicked sweet. Especially if we had a nice table to play on.

Locally I am known as the go to guy for 40K, so there throwing a party when I finish my Armoured Company, guess what it is? Tank Battle! Winner is getting like $200 at The Warstore. Heh, heh, I think my name should be put on it now! lol

21-11-2006, 01:39

Well here more pics of my eldar progress:
I have opened the box again to see the goodness inside:

The box of fire dragons were taken out:

Then removed from the box:

Once removed from the box they have been cleaned, glued and based:

Astador if We ever do battle against each you together We should do it at Aberystwyth university with the Wargamming Society I started up there 2 years ago, there is another Guard player there and we could have a battle royal.

21-11-2006, 01:56
Sounds good! I'll look at the trip when the baby is born in January.

On topic;
I hate you bro! I wish I had that box! haha We only have about 4 of the small ones lying around between the two local non GW retailers. I will prolly end up buying both of them before my friend does.

Now, lets see some more painted models!!

21-11-2006, 02:05
Ok Astador here a pic where you can see kind of my armoured company of my IG army:

21-11-2006, 02:09
Damn! My hate for you grow with the second! Lol

Care to sell me it all! haha

Check your messages for a present!

21-11-2006, 02:15
If you hate so much check out my photo bucket!

21-11-2006, 02:20
Do I really want to? yes I believe I do.... ****. I knew I didn't want to! lol

21-11-2006, 02:39
Great fire warriors, Wolvie!

How did you do your snow?

Mmmm, fire dragons.

21-11-2006, 02:45
The snow is just GW snow stuff I mixed 50/50 water and pva then added the snow until it was like icing sugar (I know there is cheaper products that can be use for snow but I got it cheep on ebay)

But just noticed that Deadley has resently celabrated 2000 post where I have just past the 200 mark yay me.

21-11-2006, 02:55
Haha congrats on the 200 Mark. Well I'm off work now, time to go home and paint some Flesh Tearers and abuse a camera! lol

Woodland Scenics makes nice snow, you mix it the same way as GW but it is alot more for $10 US.

21-11-2006, 03:22
A battle between you guys and Deadley would take a few weeks to finish:D
Though i believe Deadley doesnt actually play the armies he makes he just makes them.

Cant wait to see the fire dragons.

21-11-2006, 04:52
yeah, hence why we need to get him to play! lol

If not, the two of us will go at it.

Your Mum Rang
21-11-2006, 12:21
Well. As for schemes it depends. My Eldar are painted for gaming and so are relatively plain. Grey and Blue.

My FD's however are painted Bronze. Again very lazy but I'm practising metallics.

As to your colour schemes I think you should keep to a theme for the whole army. I know Eldar armies always look better with a more uniform scheme.

Any craftworlds in mind?

21-11-2006, 15:08
Well here the craft world colours I am going to use but slightly darker:

where as the DAs will use the red and white scheme from earlier in this log.

Well what do you think?

21-11-2006, 16:05
Looks good. Though thats going to look a lot like your scorps

21-11-2006, 16:09
The scorpoins are going to be more brown than red they will look different. fingers crossed

21-11-2006, 16:11
Ok i was just pointing out.

21-11-2006, 16:18
I saw it too, but the interactive painter only gives me the flat basic colours, imagine my scorpions looking similar to my vespid gun but browner, where the guardians will be a reds they should look different once my FDs are complete and after another Tau squad I will do my Guardian squad.

21-11-2006, 16:19
Well get moving then mate! I'm off for THanksgiving break(finally it is a week again like it was almost 4 years ago! lol) and am stuck at work, so if I can't be painting, suppose you should! lol

21-11-2006, 16:32
Well I am off to work myself right now, on a close so won't be back until late the Dragons have been undercoated black and when I get back tonight will give them thier base coat for the under suit and maybe more?

21-11-2006, 17:58
Woot! Working is good! lol

Well for me it is! I am working on Unforgiven Magazines myspace. I thought I was being original until I found Firebase on there.

21-11-2006, 23:10
Look at what the postman brought me!!

FW Avatar and Bonesinger

22-11-2006, 00:31
Nice. How long till we get to see progress on the FDs?

22-11-2006, 00:33
Tomorrow night should see some more FDs work

22-11-2006, 00:39
Sweet cant wait.

22-11-2006, 01:02
Oh **** yeah baby! lol I'm likin that bonesinger and its not even painted! lol To me the Avatar isn't smooth enough! lol

22-11-2006, 01:25
Avatar..... Smooth......???????

Astador why?

22-11-2006, 01:48
Idk, I just don't like how all the ones I have seen appear to be coated with texture paint. It doesn't look right to me, I know people like him to look like molten lava, but that tends to be smooth until it cools and hardens as rock! lol

22-11-2006, 01:51
he molten iron and the outside would be cool so more solid than the molten iron pulsing through his veins

22-11-2006, 02:00
eh? lol I'm watching Doom or whatever. I finished painting 1 scout though! lol

22-11-2006, 03:03
Well have a look that these and the Avatar out together only dry not stuck yet:

it a big bugger:

22-11-2006, 03:04
I love the Avatar ,Im looking forward to mine turning :) When it getting painted?

Kasrkin 666
22-11-2006, 03:05
I'm jealous of you. I wish I could start my Eldar, but I ain't got the money yet!:cries:

22-11-2006, 03:08
I love the Avatar ,Im looking forward to mine turning :) When it getting painted?

Sorry Deadley I just don't know maybe not for a while but will wash it and stick it tomorrow, but I have to wait to a special base I haved had commission for it should arrive next week sometime

22-11-2006, 03:43
omg omg omg AVATAR! hehe can't wait to scavange up the cash for my own some day. Although I do have two bonesingers on the way. Your eldar look good so far. :)

22-11-2006, 03:48
Looking good mate! I finished another model! lol This is taking forever! lol 45 Minutes per model+base! haha this is insane! lol

22-11-2006, 03:53
Looking good mate! I finished another model! lol This is taking forever! lol 45 Minutes per model+base! haha this is insane! lol

hehe 30 minutes for me to just make a set of tiles for my bases. :p
