I have started construction of One of these Beasts (http://medusav.us.games-workshop.com/hobby/painting/vostroyan5th/2.htm) last night. I started out with some plasticard and a Leman Russ Demolisher Kit.

The first step was to cut some patterns out of paper based on some guesses of this things dimensions from the photos on the Medusa V site. I think I made it a bit big. You'll see in some scale shots I have later.

This shot is actually two pieces of plasticard laid on top of one and other so I would only have to cut the pattern pieces out once. That didn't work out so well, the plastic card was actually very difficult to cut precisely. If anybody reading this is a wiz with the plasticard I would love to get some tips for working with it.

Once the pattern pieces have been cut out, I added some bit of sprue to stabilize them...

... and then started assembling the turret.

More to come.

With the turret starting to come together, I needed to work on the parts that had to be fitted to existing GW bits. This was pretty difficult.

The cupola was easy, since it was just a circle, but the cannon mount was harder. I had to cut that extra peice of plastic card to cover my mistakes.

You can kind of see it in this picture, but is a bit of a bad angle. I added a little shelf to give me something to glue the battle cannon to.

Here is a shot of the turret rear wall.

Here is a shot of the final interior of the turret. I would have liked the battle cannon mounting to come foward out of the tank a bit more like in the reference tank, but I don't want to rebuild the turret...

Here is a shot of the final assembled turret. Its still awaiting gap filling and detailing of course. I've got green stuff standing by. Anybody have a good method for making revits easily?

Here is a shot of the bottum of the turret. I am planning on resuing the orignal leman russ turret ring so allow me to swivel and remove the turret on the completed tank.

And finally, here are some scale shots of the new turret on a standard leman russ hull. It looks ridiculously big on the standard hull. Just means I have to make the new hull even bigger. I was already planning on double wide tracks and a length extension.

More work to come, probably next weekend.

I'm sorry to say this, but i think the turret is FAR too big, it's almost as big as the rest of the tank. I'd start again and try looking at proportions when you do it. I'm sorry if this sounds too harsh, but it's my honest opinion.

I hate to say it but I agree :(

thats not the hull of the tank that its going to end up on. Sorry if I didn't make that clear. I'm going to be modifying an new russ hull that is still on the sprue.

Yeah, it would be ridiculous if that was the tank hull - ha!

But no, good size for a bigger hull.

that's ok then, it's my fault for not reading the text and just looking at the pretty pictures, sorry.

I think the hull is going to be a bigger challange. This is the first thing I've every tried to build from plasticard. I'm gonna finish the turret before I start on the rest of it.

It will be good to see a more detailed step-by-step than was available on the GW website. Good luck!
