View Full Version : Daemonhunter (to start off) Project Log

31-10-2006, 09:08
As more and more pieces of my Daemonhunter force come in the mail, my excitment over painting 60+ chaos warriors deminshes. I'm going with a pretty straight forward army with a few changes to make the models a little less one dimensional. I decided against the traditional scheme as I wanted a force unique to myself.

I have a couple other projects on the go right now and I'll be throwing in pictures of them in between the main project as I can rarely paint more then a squad of one army without gettting bored.

Some WIP shots.

2 Sargeants and a junior officer with boltgun

2 ML bases. Decided to keep second guy off base as it's not to practicle when one guy dies off.

Daemonhunters have alot of varied units and creating a unified feel is hard I find. So I felt I should make my Inquisitor and retinue out of mostly guard bits in order to tie in with the inducted guard. The servitors will have metal colored flesh, a more cyborg type then the GW robots (which IMO look dumb).

Heres a picture of an almost finished GK and in paticular the heraldry style.

Better pic of almost finished GK

Very early WIP guardsmen with plasmagun. Face is done and thats it. The icon is what I figure I'll go with to show that there part of the inquisition.

All C&C welcome!

Those aren't really Grey Knights, but the scheme looks good nonetheless.

31-10-2006, 12:38
not fond of the dark blue, but it's nice to see you've thought of using a colour other than silver. I like your idea of using the cadian bits to make the inquisitor unit to tie them in.

Not a good sign....

"Puny mortal, the false emperor will not protect you..."

Maybe I have A.D.D. or something, but I can't concentrate on one single army... sigh... Whenever I think of chaos I always think of some big scary looking dude bullying a defenceless guy. For 40k that means guard, for fantasy its empire. I guess a part of me really likes Chaos!

On the DH front, I've got 46 guardsmen to assemble and my IG battleforce hasn't even showed up yet! So much for a small elite force :wtf: I'm planning to have a gaudsmen and another GK done by tommarow.

I hear the ADD bit. What you've gotten done (or highly WIP'd) is impressive thus far. Keep up the good work!

As promised...

Still not quite done

Finished GK 2 (well..have to go over gold again)

Start of GK 3 the justicar

I'm really having alot of fun(?) painting these guys. My favorite part is the shoulderpad with the heraldry and name tag...just looks cool I think. Next thing to be completed will probably be my callidus assassin which just arrived today!

C & C welcome!

It's supposed to be fun. It's a hobby... (I think sometimes it feels not fun at all)

Nice colours, good work.

01-11-2006, 23:48
Wow, I love the Chaos Marine's pose, and the Power Fist adds to it even more. More pics, por favor?

02-11-2006, 03:32
Callidus Assassin, quickly done, might be a few fix ups later on.

02-11-2006, 17:15
Some pictures to hold me over untill the next GK update...

03-11-2006, 02:04
some cool looking and very well painted models, you have inspired me to mabye start a DH army next and to go with a different colour scheme, i love the colour choice you have gone with.

03-11-2006, 02:35
2 ML bases. Decided to keep second guy off base as it's not to practicle when one guy dies off.
You could put a couple of holes in the base and pin the other guy's feet to make him removable. I haven't tried it myself yet (but I'm going to), but I'm pretty certain it'll be a good solution.

Also, the blue and gold scheme is very striking -- I like it!

03-11-2006, 07:19
thx guys, the first couple coments made me think I made a mistake with the blue scheme but you guys make me think I made the right choice. Will update with a new picture tommarow

“He knows no fear for none have seen the untold horrors that he had. His countless battles fighting daemons had trained his mind against the lure of chaos. Now elevated to the rank of Justicar, he leads his squad on raids for the Daemon Stalkers. Many daemons last breath of freedom in the mortal world has been cut short by his hands, returning them to the warp. Now aboard the strike cruiser he awaits for his next mission…”

I don't know how much time this guy took, but it was over two days worth. I know theres some little mistakes on him here and there but I wanted to get a shot of him up. Pretty cool stock model IMO.

(painting) Diehard with a vengence!

Trying to get these buggers done by December 16th, as thats when I'm going home and i'll be able to play in a GW battle bunker again (hurray!). I love my local gaming club, but man I get tired of unpainted, "oh this assault cannon dread is actually a vindicator" type people. On to the pictures...

Gun servitors still WIP of course!

I want each ML base (6 total)to be different

08-11-2006, 10:09
...and of course the mandatory GK update :wtf:

08-11-2006, 14:28
Hey there,

Nice work on the Grey Knights. I always enjoy seeing someone who has the guts to try a different colourscheme, because I don't like the colourschemes GW uses.

This just because I'll be starting my own GK army within the next few days and I'll be using a different clourscheme as well.

I also like how you've done your bases. Care to explain how you did them?

08-11-2006, 15:16
The bases are textured plasticard. Cost $5.00 Canadian to base over 80 models. Stencil onto the plasticard, cut out with scissors, glu on the base and dry brush the colors on.

Good luck in starting your Gk force, it's quite a fun army to paint as I'm sure you'll find out. I look forward to seeing some pictures of your Grey Knights.

Whats gamible...

Whats not.... DOH!

Real update Sunday or Monday due to Rememberence Day.

Sneaky update...

“Hello, potential buyer of the new Russ Mk IVX, and welcome to the first step of defeating your enemies!

Tired of pointy ears destroying your armor and winning the day? Sick of losing because your tanks have let you down? Well look no further the Mk IVX is for you!

Sacrificing the bulky design of the earlier version, the Mk IVX “Defender” replaces the sponson heavy bolters with a sleeker co-axel heavy bolter. Designed to decrease the profile of the tank while at the same time improve the accuracy of the battle cannon. This design is sure to improve both the survivability and destruction that the Russ can produce. Another addition is the relocation of smoke launchers. Sometimes the need to withdraw to re-evaluate the procedure of attack can win campaigns and the need for an effective smoke screen can make or break the withdrawal. So now with front turreted mounted smoke, you will be able to deliver an effective screen where you need it.”

My lahmian vampires showed up today so I will be painting them up next. I have a huge interest in vampires but I'm not a big fan of the list for VC... So no idea what there going to be used for, but there pretty cool models so hey w/e. Will post some pictures later on.

*takes a break from eating ridiculously meaty pizza*

Huh, I must have missed your Emperor's Children, which is too bad because they're quite cool! Love that you corrupted some of those damn Templar over, looking forward to more. I also really like that tank design - hard to tell by the pics, but did you squeeze both heavy bolters into the turret? Or did I miss the third bolter somewhere?

For the sake of your DH army I hate to do this, but ... more chaos! :D

*returns to the pizza*

Hehe.. My chaos will be getting more updates from now untill christmas as that is the army i'm going to be bringing home with me. However I know myself to well and I know there will be work in other areas done. As for the tank, I wanted to get both HB's on there but I think that would look to rediculis due to the size of the HB. I may remove the smoke launchers and add the third HB there. The whole idea was to make the tank look more realistic (for a futuristic game with aliens wtf lol).

17-11-2006, 20:13
I knew from the first time IO saw this model that instead of mounting her on a horse I'd have her sitting on a piece of wall seducing all the passing by troops. I love the other model even more with the snake slithering up her arm and the hidden dagger behind the back, very much like my daemonettes. So cool....

I dont recognise her... where is she from?

17-11-2006, 21:30
She's a stock lahmian vampire in the set of 2 (one on foot one mounted) availible now.

18-11-2006, 03:22
Update time.. Gonna have to work on the face a bit more as it came out alittle odd looking. Fix up the cheek bone and the ridge of her forhead and she should be good to go!

18-11-2006, 23:53
..almost done.

13-12-2006, 00:14
Get back into it...

13-12-2006, 06:44
ooo ur going good i especially like the callidus assasin.

Keep up the good work. I can't wait for the finished shot of the whole army.

13-12-2006, 07:03
ahh finally the chaos pics loaded. They looked awesome as well!

13-12-2006, 16:18
Chaos looking great, awesome mix of bitz in there. Your robes look especially nice, and I like the gold faces + blue tubes on your marine's helmets. Awesome stuff.

"I'm not dead"
"Oh you are too"
"i'm feeling better!"
"Oh you are not, you'll be dead in a week"

Been busy working on my Emperors Children. But the Daemonhunters are making a comeback! Behold my halfhour of work... The tank is done, well close enough and I will get pictures of it up shortly. Just wanted to get back into the whole blog thing. Heres my commander for the 1st platoon. Not to good at using greenstuff, but I saw some other people who had berets on there guard and well... I couldnt help myself. All my officers will have one I think.

Flash was on for these, don't know how to force it off...

24-01-2007, 06:32
..and the tank. Highlights need to be fixed up a bit, but honestly I hate vehicles so its good enough untill tournemtn time.

31-01-2007, 00:56
First up my WIP commander for emperors children. I tried to make him taller...it kinda worked. Shown next to him is a marine for sizing and possibly a new scheme for a future marine army (blood angels, my take 3)

Next is a guardsmen with an autogun. It's pretty simple just using a part from the flamer, and i think it looks okay. Just wanted to switch the weapons up as I find all lasguns looks dull.

31-01-2007, 05:23
Nice work there thor.
The demon hunters are looking very nice and as an emperors children player i always love seeing other slaaneshi armies, only one question....WHY PURPLE??????

31-01-2007, 05:39
Thanks for the comments. As for purple, I never liked the pink (warlock purple) that GW used for EC so it seemed like a logical step up. Also purple is one of my favorite colors to paint as it highlights and wet blends very well. Plus I prefer to have my main color dark (a personal fault in my painting light colors well).

Hideous Loon

And purple is also the pre-heresy colour for Emperor's Children, so there's precedent.

Your Marines (Loyal and Chaotic) look really good, kudos. And your converted guardsmen look good too.
