Hi all,

I've played 40k for 6 or 7 years now, but never really got interested in Fantasy. Until now. I really like the look of the Empire models and I was thinking about building a list for them. What should I get? Any Advice for a complete newbie to Fantasy?

A captain and wizard
Swordsmen 25 strong X2
Handgunners 2 or 3 units of ten
Knights 5+
That should get you started.

After that I would get some greatswords, another cannon, some pistoleers and some models for melee detachments.

Hope some of this helps.

Some militia models for detachments. You want each detachment to be at least 10 strong. The militia box is one of the best plastic kits IMHO, dig it.

Check out new WD. Article on armybuilding by Cavatore, using empire 2000pts. And lots of pictures of the new models. yay!

The advice from Lyquis are good. By starting with an infantry-based army you avoid the helblaster/gunline pitfall, and should get games that will teach you the manouvering and close combat stuff nicely. And as infantry goes, swordsmen are top notch!

welcome to fantasy, the cocaine to 40k's marijuana. You'll never go back.

Empire can be incredibly fun and the great part about them is their ultimate flexibility, perhaps more so than almost any other army.

Hold off if you can until the new soldier models come out though.

Oh, it'll be a bit before I start on the Empire. I've still got 2 and a half 40k armies to finish. Do they have a new book coming out soon? If so, I'll wait and grab that before I get any of the minis.

Thanks for the welcome!

The Empire armybook is due out after the first of the year. The article is in WD, USA #322/Nov.
