Hey there guys...I'm taking part in a WHFB escalation league that is starting at 500 pts and could use a little advice on my list. Here is what I have so far

14 Dwarf Warriors with shields, musiciab and standard

Bolt thrower w engineer

Bolt thrower w/engineer and rune of penetrating

I'm not sure if this should be lead by a thane or a Runesmith, and I have no idea as to how to equip him, but I have 104 points to put into him.

At 500 points a Thane would be ideal. Personally I would give him the Master Rune of Gromril, and if memory serves that should leave 14points. I'd be tempted for a Great Weapon and depending on points either a Champion for the Warriors or another Rune.

If you want a thane for 104 pts, here is a suggestion.

Thane - 65
+shield - 2
+Great Weapon - 4
+Rune of stone - 5
+Rune of resistance - 25
Total = 101 pts

He has the option to hit hard with great weapon with a 3+ armor save
or fight with shield with 1+ armor save,
and all armor saves can be rerolled.

Thanks. Does the rest of the list look fine? I was worried that the unit of 14 might be too small.

14 warriors could be a little to small.

Here is another suggestion

19 warriors
+standard bearer
186 pts

10 Thunderers
150 pts

Bolt thower
60 pts

Thane (goes with warriors)
+rune of stone
+rune of resistance
101 pts

Total 497 pts

That was pretty close to the original list I had, only I used quarrelers instead of thunderers(because I like the models better, I'm finally getting around to painting up an army I've had since 5th edition).

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll try them out tomorrow. I'll keep posting as I add to the army. I could often use advice on army building, as I tend to build fluffy, but weak lists(though I don't see this as being as much of a problem with dwarves as it can be for other armies--almost all dwarf units appear to be pretty nice).

Go with the Quarrelers then. On the plus side you'll save thirty points. I'm sure you can find a rune or two for that ;)
