View Full Version : Skaven and Gobbo Help

I am just beginning WHFB, I have played 40k for a while and I need a break from it. Working on 2 armies at the moment, O&G and Skaven. Both are horde armies. So questions will regard both army styles.

How many units should I field in Clan Rats/Goblin Units? I am leaning toward 25-30. Although with Skaven they recieve plus 1 to leadership per rank so I might go as far as 35

If i give Night Goblins spears they cost 4 points. Thats quite a bit for what they can accomplish. Is it better to give them a hand weapon instead and keep them at a cheap 3 points?

Wolf and Spider Riders. Should I give them Bows?

I would like to field units of 8 spiders, is this a good number?

I have heard Storm Vermin are a waste. I have a squad of 15 should I bulk them up to 20 or is this enough. Or abandom them entirely.

Mainstay unit sizes: 30 is average... 35 cuts back on your mobility
Goblins: no spears. keep em cheap. keep your Clanrat Slaves naked too
Wolf/Spider riders: run them in unit sizes of 5,6 or 10+. 8 is no man's land. give them bows +mus only if they are 5-6 models strong, for harrasing fast cav
Stormvermin: Most people don't know how to use them. They are a great unit. ALWAYS give them shields unless you really need the 25-35pts... never play them smaller than 25

hope that helps :)

As he said, 30 is a good number of models per unit, but I would almost go 25, so as to get a unit or two more instead of just big ones, but that's a choice of tastes I guess.

5-6 Spider Riders would be the ideal unit I think. Two units of 5 is better then one of 10.

Stormvermin: take a lot or none. Since the BSB gives +1, I'm gonna try taking 25-30 with the swarm banner, then the BSB with warbanner
+8 :D

I have a limit of 300 points per unit. I think 28 exactly fit, but I'm not sure.

Well I take my Nite Gobbo units in around 35-40 for my main blocks and 30 for any supporting blocks (aside from bow-armed goblins, who are minimum size 20).

At 40 models it becomes very hard to panic them from shooting/magic casualties and they will rarely lose their +3 rank bonus, both of which are very useful when your Lord-level general is Ld 8. :D
