View Full Version : 3,000 Points of Eldar by January 20th.

Yes the title is correct. My gaming club is having a 3,000 point tournament in a few months. Oddly enough the winner gets the Eldar Army Box which our group won at a different tournament. ANyways instead of using my old force o Ulthwe Strike Force like my buddies said I could, I decided to go for a new codex eldar force. It is slightly Biel- Tan themed in terms of using a number of aspect warriors in addition to some other spots such as jetbikes and seers.

The wonderful list of Eldar death

Doomseer on bike with fortune

Doomseer on foot with guide

6 Fire Dragons

10 Howling Banshees
Wave Serpent with TLSC and SC, Vect Engines, Spirit Stones, Star Engines
6 Harlequins

4x 10man Dire Avenger Squads, Exarch has Bladestorm and forearm catapults

2x 3 man jetbike squads with shuriken cannon

Fast Attack
6 Swooping Hawks. Exarch with intercept

10 Warp SPiders, Exarch with mirrorblades, withdraw, and TDS

5 Shining Spears, Exarch with withdraw

Heavy Support

2 Falcons with Holo Field, Spirit Stones, Vectored Engines, 1 SL, other has SC

5 dark Reapers with Exarch

Now this is about 3,000 points although I think I have some room for some wargear and such. Ideally this list is done by January 1st so I have 2 weekends to playtest, fine tune, and buy and paint even more models of eldar goodness.

Photos in the next post of what has been painted and is WIP

Now the photo quality isn't great as the camera is average and I'm not the greatest photographer.

Also for painting level I'm not trying to achieve the quality of some posters here like FearFrost, Deadly, and LotE. I don't exactly have the hands for fine detail work, and I like to think of this log as a more of the common gamer painter than anything. Tips to imporve are definitly welcome though

All comments appreciated althought please make criticism constructive

My 2 of 5 Harlies

27-11-2006, 04:49
The other 3 of my 5 Harlies the one with the flame on the sword will be my shadowseer most likely

Now this is the beginnings of mydoomseer on a bike It is the regular jetbike with his right hand straightened out to act like he is dooming a unit, and the left arm is a banshee sword to represent a witchblade. I want to make him look more like a seer though so any help is appreciated.

Hopefully will have some banshees or Fire Dragons done today as I have no school. Come on you guys know you want to comment

The Swooping Hawk looks a bit flat next to the others, maybe pick out some armour plates or the grill on the front of the head in a different colour.

you may want to refine your drybrushing on the jetbikes (mainly on the caraprace) it just looks a bit out of place, clean overall tones and colours work nicely on eldar, maybe gte rid of the drybrushing all over the bike, and maybe just hightlight the edge,

and 3000pts? man you must be loaded...

27-11-2006, 16:35
I had tried just highlighting the edges, but it just didn't seem to pop quite the way I wanted. Also the photo is a bit closer than I realized. With this army I'm trying to go for the whole look at the unit as a squad type and they look good sort of thing.

Although I do think that one the one bike the drybrush is a bit strong. I might try something to rectify that.

No I iwash I was loaded, just buying at discount prices

Started work on the Banshees I got today. Just going to do a black basecoat, unsure of the exact scheme for them so any thoughts would be great

And here are the wonderful Fire Dragons the mailman brought me. I'm going to do a blood red with a blazing orange, fiery orange, and then golden yellow drybrush.

28-11-2006, 16:55
What about letting their armour and clothes be black whilst picking out details with green, blue or red?

28-11-2006, 17:52
And then do a codex grey drybrush/ highlight similar to an Ulthwe look I was thinking. Pics of the Fire Dragons WIP later today

28-11-2006, 20:41
Did the red coat of all my Dragons with the drybrush. Here is a pic of my exarch. The gun is going to be a black dryvrushed with shining and burnished gold along with some reds and oranges.

meh, the color for some of them is a bit off, but then you do kinda have to rush.... i suggest to paint the armour of the exarch (fd) blue and pick out edges w/lighter shades. a dark-light blue drybrush scale on the warlock/farseer robes makes them look more mystikal btw.

Be careful with your mold lines, with all the drybrushing you are doing they are really going to show.

Good luck with the 3k points!

please explain discount prices?

im struggling with 1000pts

damn students

@a7x Discout prices is basically where you buy from anyone except GW. Battlewagon Bits in the US is good as they give you about a 6 to 7 dollar discount on box sets. The War Store is also good as Neal gives a 20% discount on Warhammer products. I also check Ebay often in case unpainted miniatures at a good price pop up.

@Spotty, I'm not really shooting for exact aspect colors. I was inspired by the way GW paints their aspects, but I am using my own scheme to make them a similar color. PArt of the fact is I don't have the skills, paints, time, or want to paint them exact

@FearFrost. I do see what you mean about the mold lines. I really can't notice them until I look at the pics then look at that spot on the model. Thanks for pointing that out to me.

here are my FD. They still need a tad bit of touch up although except for the bases they really are for the most part complete. Just bits of touch up.

ouch That red is so bright it hurts my eyes. Looking good even though i'm not an eldar fan.

3000 points? How will you manage that? Looking good anyway, despite brightness.

perhaps tone down a notch with slightly darker reds.

My tip would be to take some time removing mold lines. i know you're working fast but they are so obvios on your jetbike doomseer. Just my thoughts tho. Nice work otherwise.

I love them! That may just be my inexperience talking but I love them!
Eldar are able to vary so much in an army that it is awesome and you are doing it really well! You obviously have more practice then you let on to but my models are nothing to compare them to... I literally base coat my marines grey with a spray can then do some details like the shoulder pads eyes, mouth, and purity seal. But you do enormous amount of work on each one!

Sorry but I have to say it I just don't think drybrushed Eldar works, it's too messy. Eldar should be very cleancut, I suggest using extreme highlighting, makes the model stand out more and shows mould lines less if you have trouble spotting them.

Just my two pence (or would it be 1 with the current exchange rate? :)).
