View Full Version : Adopt-A-Theme

I had an idea a while back... if you other gamers are anything like me, you probably have way more quality army background ideas than you'll ever be able to actually buy the armies for. But, on the other hand, I've seen that some people occasionally have trouble coming up with a good theme or backstory, for whatever reason.

So, I propose that this thread be used as a dumping ground for army ideas in need of a good home. My own suggestions are more developed fluff-wise than army-selection-wise, so I've elected to put this thread in the background forum, and would prefer if others did the same, though a few suggestions on how one might implement a theme in the army list are of course allowed.

Ok, I'll start:

Inspired by this thread (http://www.warseer.net/forums/showthread.php?t=2656), the Aquaris Guild. This corporation operates within the Raccolta Sector, and is primarily occupied with providing Hive and Forgeworlds with adequate water resources harvested from aqueous debris clouds as well as the guild's base planet, the water-covered Norvar III. The Aquaris Guild maintains the Norvar III PDF, and draws from its ranks the soldiers which guard the water shipments as they travel to all manner of locations. This "Expeditionary Escort" must frequently fend off both land and space based pirates who need the water themselves, as well as raiders who seek to disrupt the supply lines of the Imperium. The EE has also been known to penetrate a beseiged imperial city to replenish the defender's supplies. The Guild is family owned, and has served the Imperium loyally for centuries.

An Aquaris Guild Expeditionary Escort Force, or any corporate army within the Imperium, would probably be somewhat lacking in tanks and similar heavy equipment. Lighter gear would both be present and fairly sophisticated, the corporation would probably be able to afford targeters and armor (with appropriate company iconography) to most of its troopers. For a battlefield objective, one of these (http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/trailers.htm) would make a superb water-carrier, and something like this (http://us.games-workshop.com/games/40k/spacemarines/gaming/ASC/mission.htm) would be a keen way to use it.

Alternatively, there's the Scorched Claw Mercenary Kabal. This is a group of Dark Eldar that was exiled from Commorragh about one century ago after a disasterous feud with one of the most powerful Kabals in the city. Currently, they operate as mercenaries for various factions in the galaxy, taking slaves as payment, hoping eventually to accumulate enough souls to buy their way back into "civilized society." These eldar are forced to accept some degree of function over form, since they are banned from the opulence they were accustomed to, and must bend all their efforts to returning, lest their own souls be forfeit. Occasionally they trade their prisoners to other Dark Eldar raiders in exchange for new equipment, but they are loath to spend in this way, for every such purchase delays their readmittance into Commorragh. In order to better secure contracts with gullible humans and tau, these Eldar sometimes masquerade as survivors of the (fictional) Shining Hand craftworld.

Gaming-wise, these Dark Eldar would have no wyches, since wych cults are separate entities from Kabals (at least so I recall), and it is unlikely that any wych cults would associate with these outcasts. Other than that, they would be as flexible as any other DE army. To emphasize the practical over aesthetic nature of these particular Eldar, as well as the mercenary aspect over torturer aspect, the warriors should perhaps be modeled with a few less spikes than usual.

Well, that's all I got for now. Your turn!

In a similar fashion to my Adeptuz Mekanikuz: An Ekleziorky themed Blood Axe Army. Orks trying to lokk like SoBs would be an interesting sight...
