1. What are your thoughts on character ships? IE Whenever in the rulebook under a ship class entry there will be the option of an upgrade if you use the ship as if it were some historical one, such as

...Vigilant and Havoc can replace their prow lances with S6 torpedoes at no points cost.

for the Dauntless light cruiser? Would you say that they MUST be named Vigilant and Havoc [not that those aren't cool names], or would you let a player use whatever they wanted as long as only a maximum of two Dauntless had Torpedoes? I know, I know, "what's in a name?" but some people might be anal or something, always good to test the waters.

2. Would you let someone use Voss cruisers from the Armageddon fleet list when using a normal Gothic Sector list? Namely, I converted two ships that would work well as Defiant Class Light Cruisers, but they are only in the Armageddon list, and have to be taken at least 1:1 with Endeavor class light cruisers. Would you let someone just plain take them in a Gothic list since they wont be gaining from the extra Battle Cruisers and space marines an Armageddon list can use, would you let them take them if they took them 1:1 with Endeavor class cruisers, or not at all?

It's perfectly acceptable. The 40k universe is big enough for there to be lots of similar cruisers out there.

Only if used on a counts-as basis for regular Dauntlesses. The Voss cruiser rules aren't part of the Gothic list, so Gothic-list fleets can't take them any more than Grey Knight marine squads can take rhinos.

Although if you let me take a Vanguard-fleet escort squadron in my Hive fleet list, I might reconsider.

Eh, sure, they're all bugs to me :-P

I suppose I'll just have to use an Armageddon list and a Gothic list as separate armies. [bwahaha, more models!]

Edit: Gee Steve, if you'd just turn the page, you'd notice the Bastion fleet lists have both Voss and Dauntless light cruisers.

The Fleet lists are the equivalent of 40K army lists, and are therefore quite important as there's a bit of subtle balancing going on in there - some fleets get certain types of escorts, but give up certain cruisers, for example. It's important not to mess around with them.

As for the names thing, sure - knock yourself out. As it happens, I've actually named my Upgraded Tyrant Dominion, but thats mainly because all my Imperial Navy Ships are named after WWI Royal Navy Battleships and Armoured Cruisers, and it amused me that I could stisfy both "requirements" for that ship...

Yeah, the light cruisers thing isn't an issue anymore because I noticed on the very next page the Bastion fleets have Dauntless and Voss cruisers anyway. That was the whole reason, I was highly reluctant to give up the dauntless and other ships the Armageddon fleet can't have, but liked the Voss Defiant cruisers as well. A bastion fleet has access to everything but the Oberon and Falchions, neither of which was I interested in.

Now if only chaos would get some light cruisers...

I love having distinct and unique "character ships" in a game- whether they be enemies or my own ships. Though they do tend to be enemies since theres no character ships with special attributes for Eldar and only one for Tau (happy dance- I finally get a character ship)
