View Full Version : Getting Started On Battlefleet Gothic - Proxies

Well, itīs actually my older brotherīs fault.

He told me he wanted to play Gothic. He always had a thing for Star Trek and Great Naval Battles. Plus, heīs a mathematician. All of these are (individually) a +3 bonus on the Geek d6 table (roll a six and youīre about as likely to get intercourse as a brick).

Problem is, heīs large, and somewhat stronger than me. And if he says he wants some proxies, I might as well get him some. Not doing so would be quite harmful for my fragile person.

Does anyone have any idea/advice for quick proxies? I had an old White Dwarf with some cut-outs, but itīs been lost to the times...

My main problem is the lack of any kind of notion of how big the ships are, so I canīt really start making them on paint.

Thanks for the atention*

*and sorry if you like Star Trek and dislike corny jokes

Well. from what I remember, most of the cruiser-sized models at least were mounted on small flying bases, and measurement was done to the base or the actual stick, not the model, so you could just print out a few ships at around an inch long and mark a midpoint or something. It's been donkey's years since I played, though, so my memory may be at fault.

your jokes are corny.
But in BFG, the only things that really matter are the flying bases. you measure from stem to stem, but blastmakers and other AOEs affect the base.

your average cruiser is about the size of a (jet)bike, and an escort is probobly a little bigger than a Tau gun drone. And, battle ships are a little smaller than a vyper on a large flying base.

you can honestly proxy with a sack or two of Flying bases (the little ones.)

Like they mentioned, the ships are merely models, their actual scale size is roughly 1/16 of a mm long (for the cruisers!) or something similarly insignificant.

Uhh, thanks guys, I´ll work on that ;)

Really, thanks a bunch. And I´ll do something about the corny jokes, too.

I spent a whole summer playing BFG with small w40k round bases for the escorts and Terminator round bases for the capital ships. Writre the name on them and mark the prow with a pencil / brush and you're done. Remeber to mesure the distances from the center and that's it.

Slekith, great idea. I´ll do that when I play it (maybe tomorrow, seeing as my brother didn´t even come home for dinner and is now fast asleep - oh well), but I think I still have enough termie bases to work it out.

Thank y´all for your time ;)
