Hi and welcome to my mini project thats going to tide me over until the release of the Dark Angels. With a birthday last week and christmas round the corner I decided to ask for some FW goodness to finish off my Hive Fleet.

So for my birhtday I received a Barbed Hierodule. I began work on it today so you can check for progress over the next few weeks.

Here are some shots showing the size of the beast compared to that of a space marine.

Standard FW goodness. Anyway, FW junkie reporting for action :D! Get this critter built, and make sure you wash him real good. Didn't realise it came with the resin base though.

looking good, make sure you use halfords grey primer on him, this should give you a nice dry surface to paint on.

cant wait to see him painted.

Time for an update. Ive built the main parts of the beast, I am going to paint the arms seperately to allow access to the belly. Ive included a close up of the head and one of the bio cannons - the detail is supurb.

Its all prepped and ready for undercoating in the morning.

Update time. It took 3 or 4 coats of black primer to basecoat it and Ive started doing the base colours this afternoon. Here is a pic - I had to use the flash so it looks brighter than it actually is.

As you can see, there is still much more work to be done :p

Time for another update. Its actually taken little time to paint the model. I have finished the main body. All that needs to be done is the arms and final touches on the base.

Here are some pictures, Ive been fiddling with my camera settings so the quality isnt great.

I have finished the Hierodule this morning and I am really pleased with how it has turned out. Ive included a picture to show the size of it compared to a Carnifex and a marine. I decided to just keep the arms pinned in place to make it easier to transport for games. I really enjoyed painting this and cant wait to start the Trygon. I may even get a sythed Hierodule later next year after my next marine army.

24-12-2006, 12:42
Nice, it looks really good and totally fits in with the rest of your horde. If you are buying some bigger gribblies, will you increase the overall size with more swarms of lesser beasts aswel?

stormtrooper154
24-12-2006, 13:11
Thanks for the comment. I wont be extending the swarm much more than the odd MC. I already have 40 Hormagaunts, 40 Genestealers, some FW Ripper swarms and 6 Carnifexs. I may replace my walking Hive Tyrant with a FW one because I think they look better and Im also doing some converted Ravenors from Warriors. With everything I have I can field 4000pts.

Well I have got a 5000pt mega battle planned for early next year involving myself and Mattrs as the invading Tyranids (his own project log can be found here (http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=49006)) against Tech-magos and another ally as the Imperial guard and space marines. This will be taking place one saturday at warhammer world and photos will be taken.

Time for an update. Ive started work on the Trygon, which is one of the trickiest models Ive had to build. At present Ive just assembled the main part of the body. I want to pose it slightly differently than you normally see Trygons, with its talons poised in a pre strike position. The pictures Ive included are with the arms blutaced in place, although it seems the arms are designed to only fit in one position.

So here are the wip pics.

Time for an update. I havent managed to get as much done as I would like do to feeling quite ill at the moment. But what I have managed to do is start putting the small claws on the bottom part of the tail. It is one of the most annoying things about it, but Im getting on ok with it. Here are some more wip pictures.

Well I have finally finished constructing the Trygon, and have to say it is one of the most frustrating models Ive had to put together in a long time - all those small claws that dont want to stick

So it is on with the painting of the beast, I hope to undercoat it in the next couple of days. Ive also decided to paint the arms seperately as that would just be mad to even attempt painting the thing with them attatched.

So here are the final picture of it built (note that the arms are pinned in place with blutac).

http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f27/stormtrooper81/Random/DSC03595.jpg

Now that this is built I can get back to my marines.

stormtrooper154
08-01-2007, 14:39
It doesnt come with a base, I just happened to know someone who had a spare Hierodule base. As for whats next, its my drop pod marines which has a project log on the go (just waiting for fw goodies), I may get a Malenthrope for the tyranids and then they will be finished and after that Im tempted to do Iron warriors using all the mk4 red scorpion torsos I have or a ghostly Eldar army that is like the army of the dead from LOTR.

I like the sound of the eldar army with the undead colour scheme :) are you getting FW drop pods ,It makes me think that I might have to get a couple for my DW ;)

stormtrooper154
08-01-2007, 14:49
I like the idea of the ghostly eldar too one of the reasons I didnt do an Eldar army was I couldnt decide on a colour and then I saw LOTR and thought about it, the only issue is that they would be the same colour as my tyranids (unless i go bright green).

And I am indeed buying the FW drop pods. I thought about waiting for GW to make plastic ones but as Im making this army for the GT heats this year I didnt want to wait too long. I have the 3 tactical squad pods on order, only the 2 dreadnought ones to get.

Deadleyheadley
08-01-2007, 14:57

Ive started painting the Trygon this evening and its just as fiddly to paint him as to put him together. All Ive done so far is the skin on the main body and talons and the carapace on the main body. Ive now started to paint the spikes which will be the most time consuming part. I hope I can get it finished by the end of the week if not next weekend.

Here is a wip picture (sorry about the quality)

I reckon he will be done by next Sunday night, depends if I go to WW on weds and thurs for some Carnage practice.

The swarm is going to get bigger still - a Malenthrope and some capillary towers will be added to it before the summer.

Here are some more pictures of what I did last night. I managed to get the majority of the spines painted, only the teeth and tail spines to do and then I can begin to highlight the main body.

Here are the pictures:

So here are some (poor) pictures of the finished Trygon, and I cant wait to get it on the battlefield and cause some squishy slashy death!
