This is a Tzeentch themed Ogre Kingdoms army I've been slowly building up over on the Ogre Stronghold site. I'm now almost done with the 2K points I'll be taking to the Yorkshire Open Tournament heats so I thought I'd post pics of what I've got done now and see what you guys think.
(Note: these are presented in a snae order, not nescessarily the order I painted them in so I expect the quality will vary)

The possessed Butcher/slaughtermaster who's the real power behind the tribe

The Tyrant - really an animated suit of armour created by the sorceror (and no, of course he's not painted like a thousand son...)

The Hunter: Another daemon possessed ogre who sumons others to battle

Hi there,
These models are absoloutly beautiful.
Especially the WIP Yhetees - They should seriously be casted!
You've done a really good job keeping the theme through all your models.

Excellent and outstanding.

Kind regards,

I've seen most of the army, but not those yethees.

WOW! Great work. At least ten times better than the GW ones. You could rich selling casts of those!

Strange, freaky and great.
I like it, very original.

Only thing I don't really like is the "stick-with-skull" that the hunter is wielding, but that may just be me and odd taste :)

Amazing! Makes me want to do an army like that! But I am sticking to my Carnival of Chaos army that I plan on doing eventually.

Good stuff - the army is very nicely tied together.

29-12-2006, 00:29
Nice, I love the painting. Some of the first stuff looks very tzeentchy, thoughs some of the later stuff looks like blue ogres. I also think that the first dudes head is to small. Kinda scary, big buff legs and a tiny head.

The best ogre army ever. Nicely executed and well painted. Thats all I can say. Well done my freind.

Great looking army! Blue skin tones are not so easy to pull off, and you did it wonderfully.

hey saw your army on LJ but in bits and pieces, i didn't see most of this stuff. As i said on LJ excellent work!

29-12-2006, 05:26
Can you post a how-to on the blue skin and such? I am working on a blue-skinned ogre army(fish/sea ogres, not tzeentch) and I love the way it worked out on these guys, and want to get a similar effect on mine, since I am going to start painting very soon.

Great coherent army. Cool background, not over the top execution and some lovely conversions here and there. You should be a proud man.

Corai
29-12-2006, 11:56
wow, thanks for all the feedback guys. The next unit of Bulls I'm painting will be accompanied by step by step photos of the skin tones and metals so I'll psot them for anyone who's interested. In the meantime, the recipe for the skin is:
_Undercoat Black
_Basecoat Midnight Blue
_Paint all raised areas Regal Blue
_Broad Highlight Regal Blue/ Enchanted blue 1:1
_Fine Highlight Pure Enchanted BLue
_Extreme Highlight enchanted blue/ice blue 1:1 (only character really)
_Wash with Blue ink heavily dilluted with water

Thanks

A very impressive and coherent force is what you have there. Suitable basing technique for the colours, inventive yet often subtle conversion work and of course that wonderful blue.

Job's a good 'un, you should be proud of yourself and wear a suitably smug grin to the tournament. :p

Man, I looooooooove this army, wonderful modelling and a really nice paintjob.

Wow, freaking amazing army. I ... wow that's good stuff. The tyrant suit is fantasticly awesome, but really everything is superb. Just DAMN man! If the army plays well at all - Ogres real weakness :P - you've got the tournament owned, and you've definitely got best army/painted otherwise.

Thank you for sharing, I'm saving all of these pics. What an army.

Saw them on another forum a while back but seeing the whole army in all it's glory is something else!

Keep up the good work, they are by far the best ogre army I've ever seen!

Though I too think that the head of the first guy looks a bit small. ;)

They're all nicely done and well painted, but the only one I genuinely like is the Tyrant. It reminds me of an Iron Knuckle out of Zelda. Good job. ;)

30-12-2006, 01:03
A very nice army...but one quibble...

Where are all the mutations!! Not enough extra arms or faces coming out of backs. I wanna see ever-hungry maws instead of gutplates or angry fish-heads instead of hands. After all, they are Tzeentch and Tzeentch has alwayse been a bit....unusual in how he decides to show his appreciation to his favoured champions. Apparently being 'gifted' a tiny pin-head and a snake for a right leg is an endearing sign of a affection :P

vampires are cool!
30-12-2006, 02:14
Freaking fantastic! Those Yetis are great man you're one very tallented dude.

probably time for a bit of an update. This si the sracth sculpted Tyrant I knocked out tlast week. Some of the proportions are way off but it was a good learning experieicne and I'll try and make a better one this week

Oooh impressive army! It looks freakish! The colours kinda scare me ^^ Which is great. Cool conversions too.

Erm you might want to give your tyrant an ogre-sized head. It looks like some shaman shrinked his head :P It's smaller than the skulls he's wearing. Otherwise he looks very cool.

Spacejens
11-02-2007, 13:14
The colours you use are absolutely wonderful. I love the blue.

I agree that the tyrant head could be bigger. Perhaps you could use an ogre head, a plastic Defiler face mask, and sculpt the rest of the helmet from green stuff?

sanctusmortis
11-02-2007, 13:32
But the shrunken head's the IDEA! It shows it's just an automaton, no real being inside...

Hawkmoon
11-02-2007, 13:35
Fluff, Conversions and Paint schemes; everything about this army is top notch! It's an original take on the ogre kingdoms to be sure which only makes that much more exciting! Fantastic work! I'm definitely looking forward to seeing more. Especially those Yhetis!

I hope all these compliments don't swell your head up to enormous ballon like size. :p

Corai
11-02-2007, 13:51
But the shrunken head's the IDEA! It shows it's just an automaton, no real being inside...

Yes, thanks, that's the idea. I know it seems to be a lve or hate relationship, but I love the out of proportion head, it's inspired by an Adiran Smith piece f art i nthe Storm of Chaos art book.

Anyway, some more pics

Very cool.
I obviously dig on the yhetees, but I don't know if I really care for the finished product. Maybe it is the pose? I'm uncertain. Still, much better than I can do.

Great job though, and awesome theme--Super Mega Ultra Smurfs of Tzeentch.

Ifurita
11-02-2007, 18:02
Nicely done. I think I had the same initial reaction as a lot of people, "Tzeentch ... Ogres ... huh" but I think you did a really nice job with the blue unifying theme to make them distinctly tzeentch without going over the top.

Anardakil
11-02-2007, 18:20
Oh. sorry, didnt read the fluff ^^
Well I still think it looks bad (the small head)

Otherwise I love this army. The blue is lovely, and the metals are a great contrast. Awesome little gnoblars btw. They look like smurfs XD

I also like the maneaters. But the Khornate's axe is a too big. But that might just be me.

I would never have thought of painting ogres blue, but it definitely fits! Great Job!

Aflo
11-02-2007, 19:29
lol, some kid down my local G.W painted a bunch of ogres like smurfs - not space marines however - real smurfs (well ok maybe not 'real' but you know what I mean). Admittedly they were painted exceptionally bad but it was an 'origonal' idea :p
Needless to say, this army blows his out of the water, but i'm not so keen on the yellow - I don't think it goes all too well with the blue - clashes a bit and IMO it would look better a slightly ligher shade. This is me being critical however. Love the idea for the Maneaters BTW :)

If you love the head, then I have to back down :) A matter of taste really.

The Khorne maneater looks excellent. Representing other gods in your army this way seems to turn out just fine... ;)

This army is still the best ogre army I've seen, and it's wonderful to see more work done for it. The maneaters are ace, and I dig that tyrant so hard it hurts

Keep us posted, and I think I need to go through and save all these pics :D!

I ADORE the maneaters, that will add such a great level of variety and break up the bluey-ness!

excellent conversions and ideas, I think the yhetees look awesome pre-paint, they still look good but they're missing some of their frostyness, plus two of them look like they're wearing goggles!

fantastic, really inspiring!
