Hello everyone,
And welcome to the first newsletter of 2007, and the first newsletter of what you can be sure will be a packed year of cool new stuff and hobby goodness from us here at Forge World. So without further ado, onto the news …oh, and a Happy New Year!

Alan Bligh
Forge World.

All Good Things...
One urgent piece of intelligence we have for you this newsletter is the ending of our holiday period postage offer. This offer will end at 9am on Monday January 8th. So, if you wish to benefit from our offer of free first class shipping to anywhere in the world on orders of £100 or more in value, including pre-orders for the new Death Korps of Krieg (http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/acatalog/DEATH_KORPS_OF_KRIEG.html) models released on January 29th, your orders must reach us by this date and time. (No exceptions, even for bribes and pledges of your eternal soul!) However, just to remind you that our offer of free express shipping on orders of £250 or more in value will continue as normal.

Screaming Jets!
The thunderous release of our new `Aeronautica Imperialis` game continues apace, and just to let all of you who have already ordered know, we started shipping them out en masse at the beginning of the week, with new stock of the various aircraft coming into us all the time. (And if you haven`t ordered a copy of our spiffy new game yet, why not? …all the cool kids are doing it). But just in case you need even more tempting you can take a look at some of the plush page spreads from this mighty lexicon of all things air war in the 41st millennium Here (http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/aeroimp3.htm).

Some good news for Aeronautica players is that a free PDF formatted download of the Fuel & Ammo record sheet is available from our website for use in your games Here (http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/downloadsai.htm). This will save you having to photocopy the one in the back of your rulebook, -just download and play.

Also, packs of the full colour `Aeronautica Imperialis` manoeuvre cards (containing 2 sheets each) are available to purchase separately now from our online store Here (http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/acatalog/RULES_AND_ACCESSORIES.html#AW-PUB-B-001). These are the same cards that you get with the rulebook, but we thought they’d be handy if for those of you with budding squadrons on the way and wanted extra.

Keep an eye out of for more `Aeronautica Imperialis` releases in the coming months, which will include every aircraft that`s included in the new rulebook, from the Thunderhawk Gunship to the Phoenix Bomber, more details on just `what and when` you will find in forthcoming newsletters.

Thudd Guns (and an apology)
As you may know, the new Imperial Quad-Launcher, better known as the Thudd Gun, is currently available to pre-order from us (you can find it on our online store Here), unfortunately a mistake on our part meant that you couldn’t download the advertised experimental rules, so our apologies for that, -you can quite definitely get hold of them Here (http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/downloads40k.htm), (and those responsible for the hiccup will be kept away from an over-abundance seasonal `cheer` in the future, fear not!).
Also to whet your appetite for these devices of battlefield slaughter, you can find a painted example of this new artillery piece Here (http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/quadl1.htm). More Death Korps of Krieg stuff coming soon.
Well, there it is. Links added, should all work now.

That's weird, I managed to access the rules a while back (quite a bit before this newsletter)...

im wondering when the death riders will be coming out, we saw the mock ups a couple of months ago and nothing else since, i say death riders then command squads

Well we did see a flagman, I assume they'll modify the standing squad to have different amounts of wargear (like a canteen or injection, at least i wish). Death Riders seem cool but I'll have a mental conflict as I hate mounted men in the future (maybe I can convert em so they carry heavy weapons...yeah!)

Yeah I know what you guys mean. I'm anxiously awaiting any news that there can possibly be on command squads so everytime a new newsletter comes out i'm all on it. And well yeah, we've all seen works in progress models for the death korps sure, but personally I'd rather be able to actually use my army before any other neat models come out.

The experimental rules aren't there? Try using the ones in the CSM dex.

just bought my first 4 squads of DKoK and I am excited to see them, but I too have been waiting for the command squads to arrive. I had to order the 4 squads to get the free shipping offer, I was hoping to get that before they dropped the $100 free shipping offer.

Anyone want to venture a guess on how much the rough riders are going to cost per model? I am trying to guestimate for budgeting for this incredible expensive army.

I could imagine them being about £10 each maybe £12, so a squad of 5 for £50-£60 but that's just an estimate based on the price of the DKOK compared to GW metals.

Forgeworld executive: How would you like to subscribe to an informative newsletter that is sent at random times and isn't informative at all?

Mr Zephy

To be fair, would you rather no newsletter?

@ Everyone moaning about DK Command: They are done, just need approval and on with the casting. Shouldn't be long now. They look awesome, and that's all I'm saying.

Given the fairly high (if irregular) frequency of FW Newsletters, it shouldn't come as a surprise that there'll be a few with only information coming to us, not with new models and gadgets coming out their ears...

Good to see them doing a nice bit of support, better than nothing at all (here's looking at you, Specialist Games) or extremely infrequent. Shame there's no new models, but I doubt you'll have long to wait.

Destris, if you don't mind me asking, just how do you know so much about upcoming Forgeworld models? I'm not doubting your information, I'm just curious.

Slighty off-topic, but do they assign roles as "Tech-priest" and "Fabricator General" in Forgeworld? Would be great to put that on a C.V as past employment.

I do enjoy the painted examples they provide. They are always dirtier and darker than the usual 'Eavy Metal standard of clean lines and bright colours. But I feel this grittier look suits the models perfectly. I hope to see more painted examples in the future!

wow forgeworld thanks for nuthin'.

Indeed, bad FW for having a christmas break and actually spending some time wtih your families.

I'd rather have little and often than wait ages for a lot. Besides, there's more than enough Dkok stuff to get your teeth stuck into at the moment.

And they did provide something, just no new minis. Technically the release of AeroImp did not have any brand new mininatures to go along with it - new bases and the rules, but all the initial mininatures have been around for a few years under the Epic section.

It would almost seem that the FW newsletter is almost a weekly occurance.

For those that would like to have all the nice Krieg minis right away - remember it takes time to make minis, and this is not the mass production moulds of the main house, so popular (or possibly popular) items have to be cast in fair quantities to ensure everyone is 'happy' at release.
My understanding is that the first run through of AeroImp books is already gone and that new orders are going to be filled as books come from the printer.

Thanks Forgeworld for providing immediate support for a game and notifying the 'public' when that support is available.

I hope the command squad has a power sword and not a power fist, and does anyone know if the grenadier flamer will be an option for the squad or somthing like

Grenadier Flamer Squad 95pts
may be taken 1-3 in one force org. blah blah

somthing like that

I'm pretty sure the newsletter said they were an upgrade for Grenadier squads, presumeably like the regular gaurd units in the codex where it says that two troopers may swap their lasrifles for a heavy flamer for so many points. Though would be even better if they were just an extra two troops for the squad, else you'll end up with wasted Grenadiers when you use it, which having just about finished painting my team and seeing how cool they look, is going to be every single game!

Personaly I would say a regular newsletter that had both information and a few new models or painted examples of exsisting models would look a lot more professional. As it stands, this is looking very fanmade and haphazard. I understand the hollidays just came and went, but it wasn't much better before the holliday season, and we'll see what it's like now that the season is over.

As of late I have become quite upset with forgeworld, and this may or may not be the place to voice those complaints, but I'm going to anyways. We have a new selection of models, that look wonderful, and are obviously of the highest quality able to be produced. That's wonderful. They are also expensive, so saturated in release agent as to be almost unpaintable, and horrible to put together. I'm not saying this as absolute fact, just what me and the people I know personaly have experienced. There have been a lot of support for forgeworld on these boards, people saying how happy they were with their purchases, and showing of beautifuly painted models. I'm happy for you people, and envious. Because the products that I have receaved from forgeworld are not causing the same responce. Half of the weapons I received with my renegade arms have no barrels due to air bubles in the mold, several of the arms have no shoulder for the same reason. Yeah, it's easy enough to get some greenstuff in there and fix things up, but for the price I've paid I expect quality.

Give them a phone call, they might sort out some replacements. They're an awfully nice bunch of chaps like that.

Before the holidays we had newsletters coming out just about once a week with new models of some description.

Can't expect new stuff every single one, the main thing in the last one was announcing the exact date of the end of the free shipping offer, which it did, plus one or two minor new releases.

Personally quite happy with the newsletter as it stands, comes out whenever they have some piece of news or new model to show off, shows the model, passes on the news, doesn't really need to do anymore than that, TBH I'd rather FW were spending their time working on new stuff than putting together some regular over the top newsletter.

Also, not sure what's so bad about it being "fanmade" (not that I'd use that expression for it anyway) but I'd rather have something written by someone who's clearly enthusiastic about what they're doing and passing on what I need to know than a glossy, professionally produced, marketing brochure designed by the accountants.

I wish GW itself would publish such "fanmade" trail rules...
