View Full Version : Marks big mix of projects (lots of pics)

I have a bad habit of working on multiple projects all the time.

Eventually they will all get finished.

My current projects include:

House Belisarius army with Wolfblades
Lizard mounted deathworld Guard
Space Wolves
Grey Knights

Space Wolves
Titan Legions

Space Wolves

as well as various terrain projects.

I am doing some work on the Skaven army at the moment to get it up to 2500 pts for a tournament in a few weeks.

The basic idea with this army is that it is a big horde driven forward by its cruel slaver leaders. The units with a weird mix of minis are slaves. I included rat ogres in the clan rat units to get the horde theme happening (count as 4 clan rats) with the idea that the clan rats status isn't that high above the slaves and the ogres would scare them forward.

As a side note I have been working on this army for three years now. Its been a steep learning curve and I learnt most of my green stuff skills doing it.

House Belisarius Guard

This project is building an army controlled by Navigator House Belisarius. They have a small number of space wolves attached to them as part of some ancient deal so I will represent these rules wise as a death watch kill team.

Basically aiming for an elite drop trooping guard army

This is basically as far as I have got.

And thats about where I am up to at the moment.

I am hoping to get a lot done on the epic stuff over the next few months as well as trying to get the drop troopers ready for gaming.

08-01-2007, 15:58
:jawdrop: Just... wow. Excellent work...

08-01-2007, 16:26

So much great stuff, so just a few pointed comments:
- Skaven army and concept is fantastic, really love the rat ogres mixed in the clanrats, and the slaves from other armies are ace
- Deathworld team with xbows and explosive krak arrow?! Yes!
- The hairest damn space pups I've seen :D

- Salvage

VERY NICE INDEED, like the Deathworld team, also like the spacewolf's stuff as well!

08-01-2007, 20:03
Ya more Epic stuff on Warseer. I like what I think are your objective markers.

09-01-2007, 00:02
thanks for the comments guys

Ya more Epic stuff on Warseer. I like what I think are your objective markers.

The camp, crashed aircraft and crashed ATV are my imperial objective markers. The smaller bases with the minis hiding away on hills I use as over watch markers.

One of the big projects I am meaning to get back into soon is painting my terrain. I done a bit ages ago

but most of the project I started (ie this one) only ever got undercoated

I still haven't really figured out what brand of paint is more affordable for terrain. Definitely need larger volumes of paint without paying too much or it would just get really expensive to buy enough colours.

09-01-2007, 00:40
Get waterbased acryllic colors, like a simple black, brown, and grey. then you can mix what you want and do drybrushes in GW or some other model color if you wish

09-01-2007, 10:56
Just a size comparison on the Giant and some WIP shots.

I tend to use GS to build things up in stages. Create the basic shapes first then add details (ie the scales)

09-01-2007, 10:57
Another thing I have found GS useful for is creating the wooden platforms using plasticard then drawing the wood grains onto a thin layer of GS.

09-01-2007, 13:32
The army controlled by Navis Nobilite House Belisarius is interesting, both the painting and theme. Good paintjobs overall.

10-01-2007, 11:37
I really like the idea of the House Bellisarius army. I really enjoyed the space wolf novels, and I am very jealous that I didn't think of something similar myself ;)

Looking fwd to some more pics of that army in particular, however I must offer some more congratulations on the quaity of the rest of the painting. Very nice.

I really like the idea of the House Bellisarius army. I really enjoyed the space wolf novels, and I am very jealous that I didn't think of something similar myself

Ever since I read the space wolf novels I have really wanted to do two armies. A navigator House Bellisarius one (in 40K, Epic and BFG) and a Legion of the Lost and Dammed.

The lost in the Dammed I ended up accepting I would never get to and bought an army someone else had done.

The Navigator House Bellisarius Army is my current 28mm scale project so I hope to finish it this year. It is going to be inter dispersed with a lot of Epic painting though as that is my favorite game (trying to get all my Khorne infantry based at the moment so I can paint them all).

For the Bellisarius army list I am planning on alternating between the D99, Normal Elysian and Guard lists with my standard selection of space wolves counting as a death watch kill team. I am basically trying to represent them as an elite force of well equipped and well trained troops that I would imagine the rich navigator house owning. I also think the guardsman should be more elite having space wolves involved in there training, mission planning etc. My idea is to use entirely drop trooping lists and really get in close and use the amassed power of lots of up close las guns to bring the fight to the enemy. Fluff wise I will justify the deep striking of the "space wolves" as combat insertion through jumping out of a low flying transport craft (since they are working for a rich navigator house with all sorts of special gear).

I prefer the idea of guardsmen desperately fighting for there lives in close quarters rather than gun lines. Hopefully that will work out for me with this army in terms of table top successes. If not it doesn't really matter as the great fun thing about playing guard is that you expect all the huge powerful aliens etc of the 41st millennium to kill them so its just as fun dying.

11-01-2007, 12:22
Just based the remainder of my Epic Khorne army which is probably around 6000 to 7000 points combined between a small legion of the lost and dammed list and a large list based on the black legion list.

As I got most of my miniatures second hand on old square bases I cut the bases of with clippers and a scalpel and cut new bases out of cereal boxes then stick the minis on using sellys knead-it or milliput. This provides a really strong base and hides the circle around the minis feet. For dreadnaughts, daemons and titans I generally base them on washers sticking them on with milliput.

Now I just have to paint around 3 units of CSM, a unit of Chosen, 8 tanks, and my daemons and the army will be complete.

15-01-2007, 09:07

The Khorne army is starting to come together now. All the base coating is done so I just need to add details as I get time.

15-01-2007, 14:26
You have way to much time on your hands!!

Brilliant painting, and it's great to see your gs sculpting, really class!

16-01-2007, 10:31
You have way to much time on your hands!!

Narrr I just use as many tricks as possible to make army painting a fast and easy process instead of slow and laborious.

I made that mistake once with a space wolf army and it took me years to do. Painting everything carefully with neat lines when drybrushing, washes and other techniques could get a better effect for less effort.

16-01-2007, 14:22
Very large Khrone Horde - imperressive - how many points (I will say according to BL v3.7)

17-01-2007, 11:18
Very large Khrone Horde - imperressive - how many points (I will say according to BL v3.7)

I can make up around 6000 pts using the black legion list and 1500 using legions of the lost and damed (will be combining factions for my lost and dammed army)

04-05-2007, 16:36
Been working on my Epic titan Legion. Hoping to get motivated and finish up my entire imperial force.

I have also been mucking around trying to start magnitizing things. As a painter first and gamer second I tend to paint up models with weapons options that can be less than effective. So to avoid needing to replace models I am going to make up the more expensive ones with all the options.

04-05-2007, 19:07
Can we get some shots of the Elysians? I like the red guns.

Interesting schemes for the Titan 'Lances' (to burrow a term from BattleTech). To me it does not seem like the army will have a united feel but that is me.

05-05-2007, 02:53
Interesting schemes for the Titan 'Lances' (to burrow a term from BattleTech). To me it does not seem like the army will have a united feel but that is me.

Yep pretty much no chance of that. I thought it would be nice to do an army that isn't all unified as the rest of mine are (ie the nids, khorne and space wolves). I figured titans would very rarely all be feilded together and that they were so important that they would all get there own colours like the knights of the past.

Can we get some shots of the Elysians?

There are some on page 1 of the post. Otherwise most stuff I have painted can be found here
Along with a million other modeling and gaming projects all in one big folder, but its not so bad if you have broad band.

05-05-2007, 04:37
There's a lot great stuff in your Photobucket. Thanks for sharing.

07-05-2007, 13:09
I got a PM asking for details of the paint scheme on the Elysians so I thought I would post it here as well.

Fatigues painted shadow grey then drybrushed with space wolf grey.

Armour painted codex grey, dark cammo patter added with a mix of black and codex grey, lighter cammo pattern added with fortress grey. After highlighting fortress grey extreme edge highlighting was done by running the edge of the brush along all sharp edges with a very small amount of fortress grey on the brush.

Weapons, boots belts etc all undercoated in scorched brown.

Weapons then highlighted using layering with increasing amounts of blood red and a tiny hint of orange mixed in for a little bit of edge highlighting.

Leathers highlighted with a little bit of dwarf flesh mixed into the brown.

Flesh is dwarf flesh washed with flesh ink.

Basing is done using crushed granite to give a better looking texture with a greater mix of particle sizes glued on before undercoating and then drybrushed scorched brown, then beastial brown, then bleached bone. Bits of plasticard used to represent metal scraps with stippled with light oranges and metalic paints. Ink was also used to add some extra colour variation on the bases.

Visors were done with dark blue and then highlighted with layering adding in a mix of white.

Its a bit of a fiddly and time consuming scheme that I wouldn't necessarilly recomend embarking on for imperial guard infantry.

I really like the epic

21-05-2007, 15:53
Dude you have some great stuff in here.

The Skaven army is super, it has a real dirty feel to it that I love and the theme is just great.

The Epic stuff is inspiring as well, I don't play but looking at your stuff makes me want to try it.

16-10-2007, 16:55
Unfortunately since my last post I haven't really managed to finish any of my projects (as in paint every model I own for them though many can be fielded as fully painted standard lists just with extra options that aren't finished). I have also taken over a wood elf army that a friend gave up on so increased my painting backlog rather than getting through it.

I have finally started work on my 6mm drop troopers so I can play my Navigator House Belisarius force for Epic.

These are my drop sentinels and support sentinels

One of my two drop trooper formations.

And the first Valkyrie that I have finished painting

The rest of the army is made up of some storm troopers in Valkyries and some Vultures.

17-10-2007, 20:45
I just found this thread, very nice! Love the skaven horde. Any upcoming beastmen pics? :)

18-10-2007, 00:43
some great models , i love the lizards !

18-10-2007, 09:12
Any upcoming beastmen pics?

At some point the beastmen ended up becoming a legion of the lost and dammed 40K project and my next fantasy army became Wood Elves. The Greater Shaggoth is going to be a Greater Daemon of Khorne, Beastmen as Khornate Mutants, traitor guard and the half man half horse critters as rough riders with hunting lances.

18-10-2007, 14:08
Some more progress on the Guard

My first complete Elysian Formation

And a truly apocalyptic battle force, 6 Infantry formations with Ogryn backup, 2 Drop Trooper formations on either side, 2 Storm Trooper formations on the outside, snipers and rough riders on the round bases, Drop Sentinals, Support Sentinals and a heap of normal ones.

And after these guys have cleared out the dense urban terrain of our typical battlefields a titan legion to follow up.

Next step will be all the tanks

24-10-2007, 00:58
After painting another squad of Valkyries up I got side tracked as usual.

I painted up a Vampire for a game this weekend.

And started experimenting with some ideas for making an Epic Necron Monolith. The first prototype (the painted one) I am not happy with at all. The second prototype I am hoping to cast so the weapons and thing curving over the top will be added after casting.

I still doubt that it will look the part compared to some of the excellent scratch builds others have done but I guess it will pass.

25-10-2007, 00:04
Holy crap, that monolith looks good. What are you using for Necron warriors? Are you going the old school chaos androids, or something easier to get (and cheaper)?

25-10-2007, 12:37
I actually have about two units worth of Chaos androids that I got for pretty much nothing but not enough for the army. I think I will end up proxying the infantry using DRM and some conversions.

Here is the inspiration for a lot of my ideas:http://www.tacticalwargames.net/cgi-bin/forum/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=70;t=6649

03-11-2007, 04:40
I am holding a BFG tournament in Perth next month (December 07 - tickets $15 from GW) so I have decided to build a 750pt BFG Ork fleet to go along with my space hulk I built a couple of years ago for a BFG mega battle.
Got the fleet assembled today so hopefully I will be able to get it all painted next weekend.

I am still slowly plodding away at my Navigator House Belisarius Guard

Just finished my mortar squad

I need ideas for what to do with the top of my barrels though. Have no idea what I am going to do with them at the moment.

09-11-2007, 10:55
More of the BFG fleet

and a group shot of the motars

09-11-2007, 11:19
Well done on all of it. Very nice hulk with accompanying fleet.

09-11-2007, 21:09
Love the Elysian Mortar units. Great work on the diorama element. All my Cadian HW teams are done like that too.

13-11-2007, 11:27
Since I am not allowed to get this http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/machvhb.htm I have had to go for a much smaller version.

I am finally in the process of painting the tanks for my imperial army so it should be finished completely soon. I stole and idea from E&C's cadian army for doing the Fortress of Arrogance in 6mm scale

I had a bit of a muck around so they are pictured during an ork ambush.
(orks painted by Onyx)

The Armageddon campaign would have been set back a little if this had happened

13-11-2007, 16:29
Wow, look at all this awesome stuff!

A quick run through of my favorites:

1) I love those Skaven over-seer guys on the platforms. It's a sweet idea.
2) The swarmy look of all your Skaven units. The slaves in particular are sweet! Can we get an army-wide picture?
3) EPIC!! Oh man, looking at your collection makes me want to bring out my old Epic forces and have a few games. The use of terrain bits really makes them look like their fighting on a battlefield.
4) Your Epic board is so *******' cool. More pictures!
5) Ork Fleet! Holy cow, I forgot just how bad-ass their fleets look. Big rock space-hulks are the best.
6) Those dinosaur things from the death world are adorable. I want to give them a hug. XD

Keep them coming, your collecting kicks ass!

13-11-2007, 16:35
Got some really nice stuff in this Log.

Especially liking the Epic and Bfg stuff, takes me back to when I first got into GW and started adeptus titanicus and Space Marine.

Those Elysian 40k guys are very nice, lovely urban bases and all lovely and dynamic with the bases too.

Red Scorpion
13-11-2007, 20:40
This log is brilliant, your Epic forces are well...uhm....epic!

Elysians are great (well, Navigator House force...I take it you've been reading Bill Kings Space Wolves stuff? :) ) and I used the same copper tubes for my bases to make barrels...

I think I filled them with some cheap wall filler and then used sand/gravel at the top. The idea behind that objective is that it was a forward comm post, the barrels were supposed to be filled with rocks/rubble to form makeshift barricades. Could possibly work?

Keep up the great work!

17-11-2007, 00:54
Thanks for all the kind words.

EPIC!! Oh man, looking at your collection makes me want to bring out my old Epic forces and have a few games.

Excellent! Definitely worth while its a fun game.

Cool objective Red Scorpion. After starting 40K with space wolves and reading the novels about them I had quite a few army ideas, the legion of the lost and dammed and various chaos armies have never ended up happening but I am really keen on getting my Navigator House Belisarius army idea onto the tabletop.

My Epic tank painting spree has continued and finally I can field fully painted imperial armies!

I took this shot because I was really happy with how the thunderbolts turned out.

And to celebrate getting enough guard painted to play with a fully painted army we played a fully painted game.

The armies
The Eldar also had some phenoix bombers not pictured here.

Some action shots of the game so far (we only got up to the end of turn two and ended up playing table tennis instead (epic gets confusing with too many drinks on a Friday night).

Turn 1. The pheonix bombers destroyed my recently commissioned death strike ICBMs with the first activation of the game, I would have fired the hydra gunners who failed to shoot them down if they hadn't been killed as well.

Both sides advanced with the Eldar concentrating on the North Flank and the Imperials moving up the south flank, concentrating firepower on some warp spiders who had tried to advance into the imperial town.

The imperial forces showed much more discipline, with all of the formations regrouping, whereas none of the Eldar formations managed to get rid of any blast markers.

Turn 2.
The Bane blades continued their advance up the road to save the poor villagers from the foul warp spiders and a large shootout started on the northern flank between the imperial guardsmen in the forest and several eldar formations hiding amongst a rocky outcropping.

My Leman Russ battle company seem to be having some sort of mechanical failure this game having failed to activate in both turns so far.

Luckily the eldar took a while to refuel their pheonix bombers otherwise they would have been sitting ducks.

Turn 3 - to follow tonight

24-11-2007, 07:22
I am getting close to finishing my Imperial Taskforce

25-11-2007, 02:52
thats quite a task force...perfect thing to accomplish your holiday shopping.

07-12-2007, 13:53
Holiday shopping and Epic sounds like a perfect combination to me. I think one of my mates must have read that post and been inspired. They got me this so I could proxy an Ordinatus.

Hopefully now my heavy artillery should be able to lob something up in the air that even titans won't like.

09-01-2008, 10:19

These are Warmaster 10mm minis. I am using them in Epic since I figure that 10mm Daemons aren't to unrealistically big for 6mm humans. Daemons should be huge anyway..... right?

Warmaster has some awesome models in the daemon range. Especially some of the teznick (sp?) screamers and what not. Which is good because the Epic daemons are somewhat outdated at best.

09-01-2008, 12:59
My word, this is amazing... There's just too much here to comment on everything, so I'm just going to say WOW!!!

I especially like the Epic and BFG stuff... My my how much you have!! Makes me a bit jealous... Though not in a bad "I hate you" way!

Keep up, you have amazing stuff here!!!

If I may be so bold, more "battle" shots would be lovely. Your Epic scenery in particular looks so lovely, that I would love to see models of opposing forces fighting in it...

21-01-2008, 12:38
Continuing on with the Nurgle army. A mobile alter to chaos and some traitor guard and mutants.

21-01-2008, 15:34

Very very cool demon sculpts, and nice paint work on the whole grimmy lot.

- Salvage

21-01-2008, 16:13
The whole Warmaster Daemon range is excellent! So much detail for 10mm miniatures!

21-01-2008, 16:50
Your terrain for epic is awesome; it looks like it could work for modern and WWII as well.

02-02-2008, 12:49
I have always been meaning to try some form of modern or WWII rules so I have tried to keep a lot of my terrain generic enough. Eventually I will get around to playing some form of Micro Armour but I am not really sure which games are good rules wise. I have a much better idea on the miniature manufacturers though!!!

I have painted up most of my cultist infantry now and all I have to do is a little work on the standard bearers. The standard bearer models were actually a lot of fun to make. The banner poles are from paper clips and the banners were make out of green stuff stuck on a plastic sheet then scraped off later to glue on the banner poles. I still have to paint all of the plague zombies (I am painting 18 in case I get lucky, using warmaster models) as well as a few mutants and big mutants.

I am also painting up units for my Nurgle black legion list at the same time, thus the titans, terminators and bikers. We are also planning on playing a couple of scenario type games that combine forces from both lists against combined marine/guard armies as well.

The vehicles in the back are going to count as land transports. The looked to small to carry two stands of infantry per vehicle so I put two per base. The still need some more painting on the canopies and windows to make them look better, but that will come after the rest of the army reaches tabletop standard.

25-03-2008, 15:05
I have been distracted from work on my own projects doing a commision Eldar Epic army http://warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=128108 now that its been sent off to its new home its time to get back into some of my projects. I am playing in a blood bowl tournament in a month or two so I will be working on the Stumpy Stompers.

26-03-2008, 13:04

06-05-2008, 12:02
The Stumpy Stompers are continuing to grow.

plus a couple more guys that I painted after the group shot.

Mr Feral
06-05-2008, 12:17
Wow! I really like what you've done with the Nurgle Epic models there, that's something I would like to do in the future. What you've done is a great source of inspiration!

Well done!

07-05-2008, 12:31
Cheers. Doing the Nurgle army has been a lot of fun. Hopefully I will get back into painting them again soon. At the moment they have disapeared in a box somewhere for moving house and painting blood bowl is distracting me from finishing unpacking my hobby stuff.

Thats it for regular players. All I have left to paint is a death roller then to do some basing.

08-05-2008, 03:43
Mark sometime i'll start epic :D and come to gerro for the weekend to game :p

Saw the dwarves of westgamer and top stufff :D

08-05-2008, 10:25
Sounds good. I am always up for some Epic. Plenty of armies here for some games.

The Stumpy Stompers are pretty much finished.

Next up is some necromunda stuff untill a few minis I am doing for commission arrive.

12-05-2008, 11:06
I feel I have reached a resonable tabletop standard of painting now but I really want to push the envelope and start moving up into display standard on my models. I am looking for any tips, tricks, ideas, advice, parts of models that you don't like etc to push my standard up. I really want to increase my level of detailing, freehand, colour choice skin tones etc.

This is a conversion of an Esher model. Added the hair using greenstuff to one of the juve models. I am trying to avoid girly colours on the gang and go for more of a dark and dirty look.

And this is a closer shot of my Death Roller.

14-05-2008, 15:35
I am trying to slow down my painting and try and push up the standard a bit.

This is the next of my Esher gangers its currently very much a work in progress

I have been trying out increased layering, different color schemes and more battle damage and weathering. Not sure on what color to do the hair yet.

Any ideas, critisism, suggestions etc are more than welcome.

15-05-2008, 08:39

I have made some more progress. The harsh light of macro has shown me that I definitely need a lot more work on the rifle. Now that the basic scheme is down I would love ideas on what colour to use on the gloves and hair.

Any other comments and critisisms are welcome as always.

15-05-2008, 11:53

Done! (well maybe might be some areas I can touch up),

Any other advice critisism etc that I can think about before begining the next attempt?

20-05-2008, 15:49
I am progressing slowly on the Esher gang but I am going to take a break and get back into painting some Epic stuff I need to do for a comission.

08-07-2008, 15:47
Working on hobby stuff is proving to be really enjoyable when you get a bit of a group together to work on a project.

My mate is hanging out with me and assembling a bunch of my minis while I paint up his forge world avatar, after forking out so much for it he was too paranoid of stuffing it up.

This is the current stage of a work in progress.

His army is based on crushed quartz that looks like ice chunks. I am kind of thinking it needs melted ice under it down to bare earth with a little pale grass and scorch marks under the feat.

We are thinking that the loin cloth should get added later (probably same color as hair).

Any ideas of how to paint the sword?

Comments on areas that could be improved upon.

On my other projects:

I pretty much got the bulk of my blood bowl finished:

but after deciding I wanted a couple of extra blockers I found you can't buy them individually at the moment. This discovery ended up with the battle of sculls pass box being raided for a conversion marathon.

Fantatsic project log Mark_Logue. I'm loving the various Epic bits and pieces. Nice paintjob on the Eldar Avatar as well. I like the conversion work on the BB dwarfs, they look very nice.

13-07-2008, 13:35
This is a collection of Epic character conversion I have been doing on commission over the last month or so.

My favorite was the Iron Warriors Warmaster who I gave a bionic leg.

02-08-2008, 03:47

02-08-2008, 08:03
Everything here is great but, for me, your Skaven stuff is the star. I especially liked the slave units.

However I think this recent BfSP BB stuff is brilliant.

Ludwig von Rictoven
02-08-2008, 14:14
Absolutely love the epic conversions

02-08-2008, 14:21
The Escher with Shotgun!

I love the paintjob!

This army was originally started by Warrgh on Wargamerau:

http://www.wargamerau.com/forum/index.php?...11076&st=80 (http://www.wargamerau.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=11076&st=80)

Now it has reached apocalyptic proportions after a week off work recently working on it and a couple of weekends preparing for apocalypse games.

The last unit I have done for it is my budget sting wings. I won a box of lizard-men in a raffle at some point so I drilled holes in the shoulders added wires as the top of the wings, then greenstuffed the wings on.

I am reasonably happy with them for the amount of effort involved.

See Warrgh's army diary for more detailed shots. I speed painted everything to roughly match the bits he painted so the bit done by Warrgh is the best looking bit but the rest fits in ok.

I am supposed to be speeding through my Saim Hann force:

but a flood in my games room, daughters birthday and various other things have taken up all my free time for the last few weeks.

I bought a Dragon for my daughter so I have squeezed in painting it for her birthday.

Hopefully I will get time to resume the Saim Hann soon.

03-03-2009, 15:28
Nice colour scheme on the dragon; that's not a GW model is it?

03-03-2009, 19:45
I'd love daddy for that dragon.

03-03-2009, 22:48
The Dragon is from Ultraforge. They make a great range of high quality resin monsters, daemons, giants, treewoman etc.

04-03-2009, 11:19
First time i've seen this thread and I have to say that I am very envious of your epic forces. They look amazing and you should be really proud of them. I am particularly envious of your guard and that amazing Khorne force, the character of the armies comes out well.

Your escher guard conversions are simply brilliant and fit with the Catchacans really well. Having been sculpting hair my self I've found that a deeper than the eye likes (when sculpting) lines in the hair really can help make the hair style standout. Also, if they are too deep then you can fill them in slightly with greenstuff, or something later.

Lastly, that dwarven bloodbowl team is a real winner. The sculpting and theme to the back up staff is just brilliant. I particularly loved the assistant coach, simple, yet so effective.

Yeah, they have some very nice stuff. Is that a saddle on it's back? If so does it come with a rider?

05-03-2009, 09:31
I am loving that blue btg ship, good work.

05-03-2009, 13:48
Thanks guys. The Epic and Blood Bowl stuff is definitely my favourite from a gaming and painting prespective.

Some of these projects have had a fair bit of progress that hasn't been posted. I have practically finished the Esher Gang now baring one extra miniature I aquired recently.

Luckilly I have bought my first house recently so I can start organising my miniatures properly and figuring out where I am going with various projects that have ended up all mixed up between dozens of different boxes having moved house 4 times over the last few years.

The waterpipes burst forcing me to unpack heaps of boxes so I have been trying to get all my stuff on shelves.

This is a baddly photoshoped together spin around the games room.

(including my other work in progress the old PC to arcade machine conversion)

Yeah, they have some very nice stuff. Is that a saddle on it's back? If so does it come with a rider?

The Ultraforge Dragon has a platform on its back alowing you to have any character in the game represented on foot or mounted.

I am going to use a Visions in Fantasy - Limited Edition Female Sorceress - DSM7503 by Dark Sword Miniatures.

The Dragon is actually for my Daughter in a modified Brentonian Army list to which we have added everything she thinks is cool.

It currently has her reaper princess on it untill the Darksword Miniature is painted

Heh, that's how my son's 40K Ork started; for the longest time it only consisted of 2-3 Nobs in mega armour, a looted something-or-other and Gazghul(sp?).:D

19-04-2009, 02:20
After trying out dozens of different ways of trying to store and organise my miniatures I have finally come up with something I am happy with.

One of the greatest features is that it is heaps more cost and space effective than previous solutions I have tried.

May I present the A4 Intimate Tray (weird name I know) ~$25 from Bunnings.

My 40K space wolves infantry previously were in an expensive extra large carry case with 48 foam cells per tray (4 trays) due to having to cut out larger cells for terminators and bikes etc. It now fits into two draws.

I recomend sanding the bottom of the draws or sticking something to them so miniatures don't slide around.

After that you can pull entire draws out to move fighting forces to the table top battle field and transport them by dropping and old cloth rag (I use cloth nappies) on top so they don't bash about and get wrecked.

I am finding this more gental on minis than the foam boxes as I would always have sharp things catching and weapons snapping in these systems.

20-04-2009, 03:53
That is a genius idea. I'm going to steal it. Thanks!

13-05-2009, 14:53
My latest projects have turned back to terrain for Fantasy

and 40K (this is club terrain so it is based on card rather than bevelled wood which I would normally use).

13-05-2009, 22:44
Nice, what's the scale of that castle?

14-05-2009, 00:32
28mm using hirst arts blocks (rubber molds for making plaster bricks).

17-05-2009, 10:49
I'm sure your daughter will be chuffed with that dragon :)

I'm always a fan of any BB conversion but yours are especially good, really cool. Hope we'll be seeing some more of them from you :D

For some enemies for the Princesses and Kights project we are going to have a heap of poor villagers who have been turned into orks by an evil witch (which will count as an ork shaman when I find a suitable miniature).

The primary focus of this army is that it has to be cheap and fast.

To cover the cheap side I have traded for several sets of the old WHFB boxed set orks and have one set of the new WHFB boxed set goblins sitting around.

To make it fast I am using model masters sublime green spray as a base coat then detailing and shading with additional paints and the new GW washes.

Because I couldn't find any decent matt green sprays I am using a gloss enamel. So the first step after spraying them green is to give them a nice coating of Testors Dulle coat (this also helps the other paints to stick to it).

My first can of Model Masters Sublime Green covered 140 models.

I only needed half a can of testors dull coate to get the models ready for painting. I will apply the other half a can when they are done.

I am fairly happy with my test models so far.

The paint scheme is:

Cloathing Colour 1 - Bestial, Vermin or Scorched Brown.
Contrast Cloathing Colour - Rotting Flesh

Weapons - Apply an even coat of black then stipple with Scorched Brown, Vermin Brown, Orange, Boltgun Metal and then a small highlight with mithral silver.

Bows - Codex Grey

Flesh - Wash new green ink

Once the whole model is dry I wash everything with Devian Mud then paint the teeth and claws (highlighting up from brown to bleached bone) and the eyes (yellow highlighted with white) and lips (purple highlighted with pink).

These are the test subjects so far:

Overall it is a reasonably fast paint scheme, and has a reasonable amount of detailing in easy to reach spaces which keeps if fast but makes the overall model look like it has had a bit more attention.

Not sure what I will do for basing though.

20-06-2009, 08:41
I done a test today to time myself and try and figure out the fastest possible time I could paint the orks in my chosen scheme it took 5.5 hrs to batch paint a unit of 20, so roughly 17 minutes per model on average. Longer than I was hoping for (I was aiming at more like 10 minutes) but not so bad that I am willing to drop the detail level to try and pump it out faster.

Unit number one:

20-06-2009, 10:13
Impressed by those orks mate, they came up better then i thought they would with that iridescent base colour.

20-06-2009, 11:10
Orcs look great, especially considering the speed that you did them in. Wish I could get through a few units in that sort of time.

21-06-2009, 09:30
Brilliant. I love batch painting and simple effective schemes. This is up there with the best of them for both simplicity and effectiveness.

They look fantastic mate. 17 min's a man for that quality is a great result.

The boyz
22-06-2009, 19:07
Nice work on those Orc's, Mark_logue. Very impressed with the finished Orcs, especially since it only takes 17 minutes per mini.

22-07-2009, 14:41
I have finished up the Stumpy Stompers this week.

This was a project I was supposed to do over March and April last year but it somehow ended up dragging out till now.

I converted extra players and coaching staff out of spare Battle For Sculls Pass Dwarves.

Extra Blockers (you don't get enough for a full team roster in team the boxed sets)
Assistant Coach (water boy or in this case beer boy) with 2 Re-roll markers (dwarves will work hard to earn the team some extra dwarvern ale!).

22-07-2009, 14:52
Those dwarves look great! I love the guy with the big sponge mit!

17-08-2009, 14:27
I managed to get a little work done on the faerytale army project on the weekend when not working on my 1:1 OOP terrain project (120 year old house renovations).

The Ice Faery

and Ember

The third dragon I wanted to be recently captured and still in training.

What I want is to have it inside a block of knights on foot who are prodding it forward using spears and chains to control it.

I am looking for some miniatures of knights on foot, preferably plastic, nicely in scale with GW minis and easilly convertable.

Both with spears or similar weapons and with swords.

If anyone has any ideas of where to get some let me know!

24-08-2009, 00:51
Reading this months Wargames Illustrated (brilliant magazine which is definitely worth a read if you've never had a look) has gotten me all inspired with the idea of Chariot armies. Not wanting to start a new scale, period and entire army I figured I should just add some to my WHFB Orcs so I can play a Speed Cult themed list when I want.

I already had a bunch of Chariots from the previous ed boxed set (4 to take up the special choices) so I decided to convert up 4 more for my Characters to take. The conversion uses the extra bits leftover from chariot construction, a balsa wood frame, and greenstuff for exagerated woodgrain to match the GW parts.

I just need to track down some extra chariot wall sections and a four more Boars to finish the other 3, I am planning on having one draged behind a FW Epic Giant Squigoth.

I'm moving this thread to the new Random Project Logs Forum.

22-09-2009, 11:41
I have been working on the "Bad Guys" for a while now so I will be getting back to the "Good Guys" for a while.

For the Bad Guys:

I managed to build 8 Chariots for the Orks, 4 Regular and 4 Boss Ones. 3 of the "Boss" ones got converted FW Epic Greater Squigoths that I managed to pick up on Ebay as "Greater War Pigs" to pull them along.

I will paint the "Boss" chariots later when I have spent a bit more time on my Daughters minis.

For the Good Guys:

I am working a little Garden for the Princesses.

I bought some flowers to go in it from Busch (Link (http://www.busch-model.com/katalog/e/artikel/1205-h0.htm)). While they look great in the add, they are plastic sprues with 2 parts per flower so they don't really look as great and they are an absolute tedious pain to put together.

Luckily Maria, from the Realm of Legends online store (link (http://www.realmoflegends.com.au/)), introduced me to miniNatur Flowers. She kindly donated some for basing of my Daughters army. Her generousity certainly made a young girl happy when they arrived today. The minNatur Flowers are more like a traditonal type flock product that you just need to "plant" on the base.

I'll post some pictures up later this week as I get the garden painted and add some flowers to the Princesses and Maidens Bases.

(thanks to Realm of Legends (http://www.realmoflegends.com.au/) for kindly donating these to the project)

23-09-2009, 12:43
This is my test of the MiniNatur flowers.

They look quite natural. Next time I will use a little smaller clump.

21-11-2009, 11:51
I have been making slow progress on the project. Mostly I end up batch painting Orcs when I have a bit of time because it is really easy. We have also made the shell of a rather large town. It just needs a lot of detailing and painting and roofs.

21-11-2009, 13:28
My wife didn't think it looked like much of a garden without any plants.

So we added some little bases of trees that can be moved around and vines along the wall of the courtyard.

21-11-2009, 14:16
Nice garden, I like it. :)

21-11-2009, 15:36
Your Epic stuff makes me sooooooooo jealous... Seriously, everything about it is awesome!!! I wish I had an Epic table and two forces to play around with... Sigh...

Oh well, I have other fun stuff. You can't have it all. I like your new stuff too! Those fairies are cute.

06-12-2009, 10:49
Instead of actually finishing one of my existing projects over the weekend I got distracted with this idea.

Made from the hirst arts grave yard and field stone molds.

06-12-2009, 12:05
Well, it was a good idea, so it's understandable that you get distracted by it. I think it's good if you just do what you feel like from time to time, that gets more models done, assuming you work on something. :)

15-12-2009, 10:48
This is my 1500 pt force (plus a couple of extra chariots).

I finished it up so I can start playing some games with a new player who has been collecting for a while (as in has fully painted an army) but hasn't played any games previously.

On their first outing my orks were smashed by Brentonian Charges and my Chariots failed to catch the knights in their flanks.

These are my three Orc Boss's on Chariots. Using FW Epic Giant Squigoths as Greater War Pigs!

I keep trying to motivate myself to paint more of the Brentonian force for my daughter but the models take soooooo long to paint so I need a bit more free time first. Next up with probably be a Jubei Chan resin kit, which is her favourite anamae character, which I am trying to assemble and paint by Christmas.

13-02-2010, 10:01
We are currently in the process of setting up a new games club in Geraldton. Unfortunately the closing of the old club resulted in the loss of access to all the terrain we had so now we are in the process of rebuilding. Luckilly we are able to get a very good venue at a very reasonable price so collecting funds to buy cool terrain hasn't been a problem.

This is one of the Pegasus large building kits with a scratch build corregated card roof. The kit is around $50 from some of the major online retailers. It sticks together really well and the doors actually have a hinge mechanism so they can open. The roof is detachable so that models can be placed inside.

14-03-2010, 12:37

This is the latest addition for one of my armies. The original superheavy assault walker model was made by Mangozac on WargammerAU. The first 1500 pts of the Tau army was done by Warrgh on WargamerAU after which I have done another few thousand points worth of models to match the style.

At the moment I am gearing up for a large appoc game verses my friends imperial army including two titans (Scratch Built Warlord and Warhound). The idea is to have a large game with all models and terrain painted to follow a strong theme. Imperial forces are making an attack against a fortified installation that has been taken over by "Chaos" Tau.

The whole "Chaos" tau thing is based around a Chaos Warlord creating a symbiotic plant that infects the tau and amplifies their warp presence making them susceptable to the corruption of chaos.

21-03-2010, 03:18
My Tau are now ready for Apoc!

And lots of extra models added by me to match Waargh's original scheme and a box of lizardmen converted because I "hate" the metal vespid models.

11-04-2010, 16:06
Woah you sure have alot of stuff there, Complete opposite of me I buy box by box, build paint then move on to the next.

That's a huge, beautiful Tau army you've got there.

Lovin' your terrain too...

Fantastic tau army! I love apocalypse scale armies :D You got a nice horde of malifaux models there too!
