Hello all. A long time ago. And I mean A LONG TIME AGO, back when all saurus warriors were 2 piece models, and all skinks had bows... And when magic and items were on cards! Anyway:

I ran a 5000 point list which I used to defend on a temple city map. Thanks to the powers of the Old ones, I never lost a game. (well, admittedly, I never played against any armies which were capable of dealing with me.)

Back then it had alot of quirks which were lost in the new codex, which gave me the upper hand. (like how Saurus saves, thanks to scaly skin, could never be worse than a 6+, which was crucial for defence) But now i've decided, after blowing the dust off my old list, it's time to update it, both in construction and fluff!

The army (then):

~1 Slann General~ 290 pts

Mage priest Champion and Palanquin 240
Battle Standard 50

(This gave him a healthy 2 spells and 3 items)

Back then it was a different game, but I want to see if I can make this old list competitive in todays game! Take the list below and tell me any alterations you think it needs.

Lets start with the slann

~1 Slann General~ 290 pts

Mage priest Champion and Palanquin 240

Make that:

Third generation Slann 410
Plaque Cupped Hands 50
Mirror Shield 35
Battle Standard + Totem of Prophecy 100
TOTAL 595

This Slann is designed to protect it's unit, and make it beastly to behold. The whole unit gets a ward save, like one of the old magic items, but that gave you a 6+ instead. He's also not a half bad magic caster at 3rd gen. The trouble is, now i have to splash out for quite alot of temple guard to make it worth it. And if I have enough, then combats wont last very long, outnumbered by fear causing enemy!

The temple guard need to be updated, and definetly reinforced. You cant take heroes anymore, so Goq Gar will become A Saurus Scar vet. I think 30 is a healthy, strong number for this unit.

Now the unit is heavily defended, bulky, and threatening to almost anything the enemy can throw at me!

My Core Bulk, the saurus, need an upgrade. Im thinking more of them, with marks.

These saurus help my Slann control the magic phase (if he doesnt already!) and basically run amok in his own phase. And of course, in combat, 3+ saves are nice.

Help me convert the rest of this unit to the future, and criticise what i have already. Constructive criticism mind you.

units of 32 saurus would be hard to move.. you'll get flanked alot.
