Right. I now understand how to use a digital camera and how to paint miniatures to a decent standard. Now the last thing that I need to do that I always seem to fail at is make a project log and keep it going for any decent amount of time.
So I need you. Yes, you. What I need you to do, I keep constantly bugging me about this project log so I get out there and actually get something painted. I have many, many Skaven that need painting, as well as Imperial Guard, Orcs, Undead and all kinds of wonderful models. So yeah. If this doesn't get updated within a week or so, bump it. PM me. Whatever, just make sure that I use this log as often asp ossible. Your reward will be shiney pictures that are much, much better than the following...

But painted! Yes! Painted!

I think you could do with a better lighting set up, a tripod, and better white balance. Aside from that, stand there and continue to gibber while I pour sawdust down the back of your shirt and scrape my fingers down this blackboard until you paint.

C'mon, paint!

It seems you have a lot of fantasy stuff to do, which will be nice to see. How baig will the Skaven army be?

Alrighty. An update.

Before I played Skaven, I played Empire, which has left me with a large number of cannons lying around. I was making a centrepiece for a clanrat unit which had a pirated empire cannon stuffed with skaven weaponry being carted along by skaven (pics later).

Then I had another idea. Why can't I make a couple of these guys and use them as leadbelchers? The only problem I can think of is justifying their close combat ability, but then I cna say that (being skaven) they just load up the cannons and fire them directly into the fight.

Thoughts?

Keeping with the whole better pics thing, here some misc stuff I've been doing recently.

One of those snap together chaos warriors. I love the minis but can't afford to start another army, so I brought the cheap set :-p

I haven't actually painted anything since my last update. Damn school. :cries: But this weekend I've got some free time.

Also, on another note, does anyone know a good way of making/getting good looking tallarnesque miniatures? It's for a little side project I'm thinking of doing...

I've now got bigger pictures and a better lighting rig, all I need now is a tripod and maybe these picture's'll be perfect.

Anyways.

I quite like the sculpting you've done on the giant, along with the tail. Maybe some warpstone stuff on him? It would only make sense.
I'm trying out my own skaven log too. The problem is taht Skaven don't make for great pictures, but I'll keep watching.
I like the ideas so far, but maybe a closer pic of the clanrat unit?
Keep it regular!

Alright, Poly's stupid project that he'll probably fail #1.

My club is holding a doubles tournament for 40K in just less than a month, and I'm planning to paint up 1000pts of Cadians by then. Of course, I haven't got them yet, and it'll take a week or two to get them shipped in from Australia, and then I've got schoolwork to do and a drivers' liscence to get.

But keep following anyway. This is my big speedpainting project! Horra!

Another army I like!
Do keep it up, and get as much as you can done. Preferably without the same colours as everyone elses cadians, but anything would be good.
I'll keep nudging...

It's actually Cadian plastics painted desert camo to make the Hypherion 188th
Urban assault division. :p And on a similar note, I dropped down to the local hobby store and grabbed the IG codex, along with some metal officers and hobby supplies. I've been flicking through the codex and have come up with the 2000pts this will eventually become, and I'll edit the revised 1000pt tourny list in soonish.

I'm not entirely sure what's going on here, but it's good to see some Skaven around. I used to have a big army until I sold it on eBay.

Love the idea of using non-rats as slaves, though.

I'm looking forward to some painting coming up here soon.
I hate to say though that your imperial guard 2000pt list is not very competitive. If you dont' mind not winning many games(obviously moreso in tourneys) its not a problem, but you kind of don't have heavy weapons.
3 missile launchers is really far below the minimum heavy weapons for a realitively static guard army. Ogryns unfortunately are overpriced, so even though most every guard general that likes converting would like to include them, they are also just not nearly good enough. Their particulat problems are instant kill on an 8 (powerfist, missile launcher etc), and combat against power armour isn't nice, but isn't too bad. They won't win their points back agaisnt MEQ opponents.
I dont' know if you want advise so I'll stop there. Otherwise its not too bad. I mean ok, yeah I'd vary the special weapons a little and not take bionics, but the rest is a matter of choice, and won't go too badly. But those ogryns really are not any good, and so fwe heavy weapons will mean you can not beat enemies with tanks (if your tanks are constantly fireing at tanks then they aren't at full effectiveness)
I'd suggest a poke in at the guard tactica thread, or even Malcheck's build up to GT tactica thread(just read battle reporst and the 'what I've learned' bits).

Hope I'm not intruding on your fluff with all those comments :)

No problem. I appreciate any feedback I can get. I've been going over the IG codex a few more times and I'm running a few different ideas around in my head. I'll sort something out in time. :p Hopefully in enough time.

On your sig:

My Project Log, which you must keep annoying me about until I actually use it.

You don't have to have a new army list to post a couple of guard squads, right?

My camera is currently on the other side of the country. Since this is New Zealand, that's still pretty close, but I still can't take any pics until about Friday. However, on Fridayish I'll get up pics of the command squad I've painted. I promise. :p

Ah, latest pictures are much better. :)

Care to tell me how you did the CW's cloak?
Steve

polymphus
06-03-2007, 19:17
The cloak wasn't terribly difficult, just time consuming. I painted strips of colour descending in lightness (midnight blue+howevermuch white) and then I did the same thing, but at a much small scale. As in, I painted descending colour strips in the gaps between each shade of blue. Then I just did a normal highlight, but once again it takes longer due to the nature of the colours.

On the birthday scene, I got an 'iou one cadian imperial battleforce, hasn't arrived from Australia yet'. Hurray!

Hold on! Pic's coming! [/funk]

Alright, my Senior Officer...

http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j24/Polymphus/40K/js46_IMG_6200.jpg

A trio on slightly converted junior officers...

http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j24/Polymphus/40K/js46_IMG_6203.jpg

And a missile launcher crewman.

http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j24/Polymphus/40K/js46_IMG_6196.jpg

Only the Seniro Officer is actually painted, and his weapons need redoing. Also, he looks glossy because when I went to take the photo the lenscap flew off and broke his plasma pistol. I had to reglue it on and then take the photo. So he's got some accelerant on him.

Yeah, I really should paint faster. *sad face*

Alright, I've got 40 guardsmen, 3 lascannons and a leman russ put together, as well as the stuff you've seen before. All the guardsmen have had their lasguns coverted to look like Uzi SMGs, but I'm still working on extending the magazines.
Question, just to see if anyone's still listening, has anyone used an Imperial Lightning before, and if so, how does it fare? The model is beautiful but it's also expensive, and I don't want to shell otu that much money if it isn't worth it.

I apologise for not posting, but currently I've been bogged down with schoolwork (don't you hate remembering deadlines the night before it's due?).
However, school holidays start on Friday!

And, in other (gaming related) news, I've bought a few more shades of paint, primary one here being dark flesh. After using them I've discovered that I can actually make human skin look somewhat realistic. :p Pics of some of my painted guard as soon as I can.
