View Full Version : MalusCalibur's Slaaneshi Spiderwomen and general Project Log

Hello there everyone!

Long time lurker of this particular forum, and seeing the motivation it seems to instill in people I thought I'd give it a go to help get some of my own projects done.

Enter the Arachni Impassioned.
I've always wanted to do a Slaaneshi army (who wouldn't? :P) to go nicely with my existing Chaos army (2000pts of Undivided goodness). I was being put off by the extortionate price (sorry GW, it's true) of Mounted Daemonettes, so was musing to myself one day 'how to make them from something plastic?'.
I seem to have quite the flair for 'custom' centaur-esque creatures, and thus thought along those lines. But horses are boring, they've been done. So what else is there? And then it hit me: SPIDERS. There's a brand new plastic spider rider box. Perfect...

A few eBay orders and an hour or two perverting science later, and I successfully fused daemonette and spider to create my first, test model, Spider Maiden:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v202/MalusCalibur/SpiderMaiden1.png
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v202/MalusCalibur/SpiderMaiden2.png
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v202/MalusCalibur/SpiderMaiden3.png
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v202/MalusCalibur/SpiderMaiden4.png

That's a metal daemonette on foot with her legs viciously cut away and her torso blended into the front of a plastic spider (A BfSP one, as it happens) with Green Stuff. It turned out better than the pictures might let on: I apologise for their quality as they were taken with a webcam, the only medium I can access at the present.

(Close up of the blended join)

Stepping back a little, when this idea had first entered my mind, I already started to plan the Daemon Prince(ss), the centrepiece of the army, and ordered the pieces to create her. I recently got to work on them as to create the torso for her (I'm still awaiting the spider half), and this is the result (please ignore the spider body she is currently orange-tac'd to, that will not be her 'final' spider body):
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v202/MalusCalibur/SpiderQueenWiP1.png
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v202/MalusCalibur/SpiderQueenWiP2.png
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v202/MalusCalibur/SpiderQueenWiP3.png

Her sword hand is still drying/curing, and her other hand is still to be decided upon.

What does everyone think thus far? I thought I'd get some opinions before I went ahead and painted them.

Thanks in advance,

MalusCalibur

Love the spider daemonette idea, will make great centigors in a slaaneshi beats army, must try some.
What spider are you using for the princess, i did one myself using the lotr spider, gives a great rearing up pose

Driders in a Slaanesh army? It fits!

I like it, and only wish GW could make more daemons like this, they would be perfect beasts of Slaanesh..

The spider for the princess will probably be the classic 'Giant Spider' model (http://uk.games-workshop.com/storefront/store.uk?do=Individual&code=COMP029903318&orignav=13), though I need to see it 'in person' before I decide, as I told a tiny white lie in my post: the body she's currently orange-tac'd to may well end up being hers. Either way, the 'leftover' spider will be used later on (watch this space, heh).

Gorgeous work, big fan of centaur-nettes myself. Look forward to paint, and great use of those BfSP spiders. Maybe something to look into myself, can always use more nekkid demongirls ...

I believe the giant spider is slightly larger than shelob. Nice army and theme; the way the daemonettes medls together with the spider bodies makes it looks like natural female curves, in a wicked way.

giant spiders three for a tenner to be found about half way down this page, there on 40mm bases if you need a scale reference

noneedforaname: Lovely as those spiders are, I'm trying to keep the models GW, simply because I may one day want to use them in an 'official' function. Besides which, I only need two 'giant' spiders, and I've got those covered already (in so far as bought). But thank you for the recommendation anyway :)

And thank you all for the kind comments! I should be able to create a few more Spider Maidens later this evening and get pictures up.

Reading my posts I realised that it's not made entirely clear what this army is! So for clarity, it's a WFB Slaaneshi Daemon army. I'll also let on that it's going to make vigorous use of the 'counts as' rule.

Update! (Well, I did promise). I present the first (almost) finished unit of Spidermaidens (count as Mounted Daemonettes)! They're only almost finished because they still lack one member, who I am yet to construct because I lack another metal daemonette to mutilate, heh. Once again I apologise for the poor quality of the pictures, I'll get the use of a digital camera one day.

Maiden 4:

(ignore the ball of orange-tac under her left arm, it's just keeping it in place while the green stuff cures)

Maiden 5:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v202/MalusCalibur/SpiderMaiden5-1.png

[Before anyone asks, Maiden 3 is the test model I showed before, heh]

I had an oppurtunity to be rather creative with the arms on these, because since purchasing these daemonettes I managed to lose three of the arms. Maidens 1 and 5 have spears from the High Elf Spearmen sprue (finally, a use for them!), cut down and with new shoulders constructed. Maiden 5 also had her head snipped of and rotated so that the claw-arm would fit between the front spider legs. Maiden 2 has a tentacle instead of an arm (didn't have a left handed spear), made from wire and green stuff.

Enjoy! Next update should be Sunday evening or Monday.

Not so hot on the tentacle arm - maybe it's just the pic - but they look great otherwise. Nice spear arms, and actually the detail on the BfSP spider abdomen is very nice ... hmm ...

Although I agree with Boss_Salvage: the tentacle doesn't quite cut it (IMHO).

Hmm....looking at the tentacle I can't really see whats wrong, but then again I do have the privelege of the model in front of me. What looks wrong with it, in your opinions?

Thanks.

The tentacle seems to get thicker at the end, while it should get thinner. But then again the pics aren't the best... :p

I like the idea though. :)

Maybe if you thinned the Tentacle down a bit, it looks a bit too thick for a Slaaneshii one TBH. Apart from that, its a cool idea, makes me sad i've got Goblins for my Spiders :D

Thin the tentacle, gotcha! :D Should have that done by tommorow along with an update.
Aye, I had seen the 'Konvershun Klinic' in question, it did give me the original idea way back, subconsciously. Personally, though, I find that spiderwoman to be very fake looking: the irony being that the creator makes a point of commenting on how he must blend the join between daemonette and spider, and then paints the join...and JUST the join...bright pink

Update time! [Sorry it's late, I've been very busy and ill]

Firstly, a group shot of the finished five Spidermaidens that I didn't have the image space for last time:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v202/MalusCalibur/Spidermaidens1stunit-unpainted.png

Now, for today. The giant spider arrived today [hurrah!] so I set to work getting it ready. Sadly, though, the way the legs are arranged by default looks dreadfully static (go and look at it in the GW online store to see what I mean), So I'm having to pin all the legs on individually, which is very time consuming, but it seems to be working. I have half of the legs done at present:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v202/MalusCalibur/SpiderQueenSpiderBodyWiP.png

The Princess herself has also had some work: I've been making her some hands! The sword hand has been attached, but the join is very messy at the present, so I need to think of a way to hide it (removing the second hand from the sword took its toll):
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v202/MalusCalibur/SpiderQueenWiPSword.png

Her other hand was originally a pointing hand I had lying about, but it didn't really fit very well, and it struck me that with that, her pose was almost identical to that of Be'Lakor, who I use as the Daemon Prince for my Undivided army, so I decided not to go on that route, and am instead constructing her a hand holding a whip [FAR more Slaaneshi anyway :-P]
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v202/MalusCalibur/SpiderQueensWhipWiP.png

It's just a flail hand from the Marauder sprue with a bent paperclip glued into a drill hole. Simple, and yet effective-although obviously I will build the main body of the whip up with Green Stuff.

Enjoy! Next update should be within the next couple of days.

Another update! Got back to work again immediately...though the topic seems a bit more barren at the present. Not to worry, onward we go:

The first port of call was the giant spider. FINALLY managed to get all of it's legs pinned and glued on:

Six legs and the last two pins:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v202/MalusCalibur/SpiderQueenSpiderBodyWiP2.png

All eight legs:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v202/MalusCalibur/SpiderQueenSpiderBodyWiP3.png

The problem was, that once all the legs were on, although it was functional it was just too static. So I went back and bent them all at the joins (VERY carefully: if any had broken off I might have wept bitterly) to create this rearing pose:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v202/MalusCalibur/SpiderQueenSpiderBodyWiP4.png

I feel this is much more 'action-y' and will look better with the torso attached. A little bit of Green Stuff covered over the visible gaps and pins, and it was put aisde to cure. I then turned my attention to the whip, applying some Green Stuff to build it up a bit. Unfortunately for me, getting the stuff wrapped around the wire was harder than I thought, and at first it all looked very patchy, but I perservered and managed to create this:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v202/MalusCalibur/SpiderQueensWhipWiP2.png

The shadows in this picture make it look fatter than it really is, unfortunately, but this was the best of three or four pictures I took of it.

The next update should have the Princess fully built and ready to prime, and should be within the next day or two. See you then!

Hello again! Back to work again today, lets have a look eh?

First things first, the whip. I took a long look at it and realised it didn't look right: it was far too thick. So I went back and replaced the end with a thinner piece of Green Stuff:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v202/MalusCalibur/SpiderQueensWhipWiP3.png

However, when dry assembling the Princess I realised that the whip was far too long and was dominating the piece, and so I went back and started over, shortening the wire and bending it into a better shape:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v202/MalusCalibur/SpiderQueensWhipWiPRedux.png

Most importantly, I finally attached the Queen's torso to the spider-body and blended it in:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v202/MalusCalibur/SpiderQueenWiP4.png
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v202/MalusCalibur/SpiderQueenWiP5.png

[continued in next post, image limits again]

MalusCalibur

[continued from last post]

All that then remained was to drill and pin the whip hand (I managed to injure my thumb while doing so, but got no blood on the model so all's well :-D)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v202/MalusCalibur/SpiderQueenUnpainted.png
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v202/MalusCalibur/SpiderQueenUnpainted2.png
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v202/MalusCalibur/SpiderQueenUnpainted4.png
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v202/MalusCalibur/SpiderQueenUnpainted5.png

The only problem I see is the messy join on the sword arm. The 'lump' of green stuff on the wrist can easily be a wristband, but the hand got a bit mutilated and looks a bit peculiar....I was thinking of glueing something onto it to cover the join. Does anyone have any ideas to what? I was thinking perhaps a ribbon (like you might find on a lance), some chains, or a hanging cloth?
Any ideas would be more than welcome.

Once the glue holding her to the base dries, she'll be ready to prime. That stage should be reached tommorow, where I can also begin painting.

Enjoy! See ye all at next update.

Great pose there, and way to push ahead with all that pinning to transform the lazy GW spider into something monstrous and angry! I still think the whip is a bit thick - like was the problem with the demonette tentacle arm - but that's kinda unavoidable, especially if you want any sort of strudiness out of the bit.

Looking forward to paint, on her and the little spider-girls too!

Hello again! I realise I've been MIA for a fair old while now, so I'm here to explain myself.

I had an doubles tournament crop up just recently (4th of March), and thus had to very suddenly switch my modelling efforts over to the 750pt force for that. I had wanted to use my spider ladies, to give me motivation to get the buggers done, but alas my partner possesses no armies that they can ally with, so I had to make it Dwarves instead. I put a lot of hard work into those Dwarves (finished the whole 750pts in a week in a half, yes it nearly killed me!), and thus the spiders got unceremoniously shunted temporarily aside.

With the tournament done, I can now get back to the spider ladies. However, I have a fair amount of university work to slog through before Easter, so I'm going to put them on hiatus until then. Once I'm settled back at home I'll get to work on them again (and will have access to a decent camera for pictures!).

See you in three weeks!

Wow! Neato! Nothing like driders to spruce up the army (IIRC, that's what they were called in the old TSR days...)! I'll have to try something like this in the future.

The Dwarves did alright, yes: me and my partner (Brettonian Errantry list with plenty of peasants) came 5th out of 8. First two games went really well (1st was vs Lizards and Ogres, 2nd was against two Tzeentch champions on chariots and Beasts (that game went SPECTACULARLY well :D)). Third game was against a chap who had come 3rd in a GT and his partner, playing Wood elves and Lizzies. Skirmishers everwhere :S. The table was horrific as well, with a large forest on each side. Naturally we got crushed. Fourth game was just painful. It was a VC/Chaos Dwarf alliance, and as well as being an immensely powerful (and thoroughly boring, in my opinion) combination, the two players wernt exactly the most sporting of lads, and so in repressed anger I fought on when my partner went off almost in disgust (he's very polite though, and so said nothing to them), and with a few incredibly daring and bold moves I pulled the game back to only a minor loss. The final game was against an old friend of ours, the guy who ALWAYS wins the most sporting award at our local tournaments, and so we knew it was going to be a good end to the day (He and his partner were a Beasts/Mortal Khorne alliance). We should've won, too, as the first turn went unbelievably well (took out the Beast general, who had yet to call the ambush, with a well placed Bolt Thrower shot!). Sadly, cracks appeared in the line and we only managed a draw in the end.
Thus, 5th. Our lists were as follows:

Sadly, no brilliant guess from me ;)

On the team lists, the Wood Elf + Lizard list is kinda neat, with the skirmish focus, and the VC + Chaos Dwarf list looks near abusive without having nasty players behind them. My favorite 750 point list though is the Tzeentch one with 2 models! Fabulous!

Nice shot with the bolt thrower in that last game, and nice work at the tourny in general.

I'm spotting two Majora's Mask references there- Mikayu as the name of your BSB, and Ikana overall. I'm going to hazard a guess that it's mikayu's fishbone guitar on the banner.

Oh, well done sir! Yes indeed, the references are to Majoras Mask. Ikana in general, Stone Tower as the home of the Dwarven half, and the names Mikau and Viscen (yes, he is indeed the head of the Clock Town Guards). I'm suitably impressed! You are wrong about the banner though, its a bit more instantly recogniseable than that (plus I could NEVER paint a fishbone guitar well enough!). In the background I wrote there are a couple more references too (namely a Battle of Snowhead Mountain, an Ogre Tyrant named Goht Bonecruncher, and an Ikana captain called Keeta).

I'll give you the cookie and my respect anyway :D But there's a SPECIAL cookie on offer to the person who guesses the banner.

He ID'd viscern (capt of the tower guard) and Mikau (a zora) from the game, the land of Ikana, the stone tower almost right away.

Possible banner iconography- Here's our thoughts.
- Mirror shield emblem (from majora's mask)
- Red jewel emblem on stone tower temple (the one that turns the temple upside down. Is this the meaning of 'desert rose'?)
- The zora sapphire
- Either the royal symbol or picture of Igos du Ikana, the last monarch of Ikana. If you were playing undead, it could be skull keeta
- Picture of stone tower or the stone temple.
- The castle of ikana.

Possible, but not our first choices:
- There's always the mask of majora,
- Moon or perhaps the 4 guardians.
- An image of twinmold, the guardian of stone tower temple.

Are we even close?

No, but the Enchanted Shield carried by Viscen was called the Mirror Shield.

No, but I had originally wanted that, I just couldn't get a picture of it for reference. 'Desert Rose' was just the name for the knightly order, it had nothing to do with my Dwarves.

No. Remember, the banner we're guessing here is NOT the one carried by Mikau (The Bretonnian BSB). It's the one carried by my Tower Guards (Dwarf Warriors).

An interesting one, that-I wasn't aware king Igos had a symbol. Keeta got referenced in the rest of the background that I wrote.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess its the good ol' triforce itself. Nothing says Legend of Zelda like the triforce and it would look pretty awesome as a symbol on a shield or the like.

Yes, it's the good old Triforce. Painted it freehand and it looks splendid. Certainly got noticed and commented on more than once in that tournament :D

Alas, we thought of the triforce, but thought it too obvious of a reference. This is what you get for being initiated.

Re: the king- I didn't know if there was a symbol or anything. If you were a zelda fan, you might have some art with a symbol on it. It would make for a cool banner though, given you background.

heh, did you paint the mirror shield with a chrome paint (something like from testors...)? That would be great.

Also, you could paint the zora symbol onto the shield of mikau... that would be cool too! :)

Well, we gave it a good shot. Can't wait to see more spiders!

I'd love to see those Dwarves. An all-purpose log I always find is more fun. More variety.

The Bretonnians were my friends models, so I didn't paint them, just wrote the background (he entrusted the job to me). I had considered doing a Bretonnian army of my own one day to represent the Knights of Ikana properly, but I don't think I can be bothered, eheh.

Well, pictures (decent ones, anyway)will be impossible until Easter, but I'll certainly get some when I can.
That's one vote for an all-inclusive log so far...any other takers?

Hello, hello again!

Now, it is the Easter holiday and I am back at home. Despite an apparent lack of interest, I have decided to go ahead and make this an all-purpose log, so you can expect more updates as all armies will be attended to here. My first task, of course, is to list them:

Unit status key:
Do not own the model/s
Own the model/s but they are either totally unassembled or only partly assembled
Models assembled
Models assembled and primed, or painting (or repainting) is in progress
Almost done, just a few last things to do (like basing, or making a movement tray)
Completely finished: painted, based, and ready to use

Warhammer Fantasy

Chaos (Army 1: Mortal/Daemon hybrid Undivided army)
Overall status: Complete

Units:
Undivided Damon Prince (Be'lakor model)
Mounted Exalted Champion w/Halberd
Chaos Sorcerer (foot)
4 Chosen Knights
6 Flesh Hounds
6 Mounted Daemonettes
6 Marauder Horsemen w/Flails
8 Furies
4 Screamers
Chaos Giant (Mutant Monstrosity)
2 Spawn (1 Khornate, 1 Slaaneshi)

Comments: My only finished army. I've entered it in a few tournaments and done reasonably well, and so I am pleased with it. Painting is almost my highest standard. Pictures of this army can be found here: http://maluscalibur.deviantart.com

Chaos (Army 2: Slaaneshi Spiderwomen)
Overall status: Work in Progress

Units:
Spider Queen (Daemon Princess)
6 Spidermaidens (Mounted Daemonettes) (only 5 are done)
Sorceress (got half the conversion bits)
24 Spidermaidens (4 more units of 6)
6 Marauder Horsemen

Comments: One of my current projects. Their progress has been documented up to this point. Some points of the final list are not yet finalised. Decent pictures are due.

Chaos Dwarves
Overall status: Waiting project

Units:
Hero w/ GW
15 Warriors (HW/S)
15 Blunderbusses
30 Hobgoblins
2 Bolt Throwers (I have the styrene rods to build them)
Death Rocket (I have a fraction of the bits)
Earthshaker (I have the bits, recently sent by Xander :))

Comments: This project is mainly for a 750pt doubles list, for a tournament I am entering next year with my better half. It is also to test my conversion/GS skills. Currently awaiting activation (most of the army will be made from the BfSP box when it arrives).

Dark Elves (Cult of Slaanesh)
Overall status: Halted

Units:
14 Devoted of Slaanesh (Witch Elves) (they were bought on eBay and thus are already painted and based, but I will be repainting them)

Comments: Never really got going: I proxied the army a few times, and did alright with it, but never really got into actually modelling it. Currently stands at 'might finish one day'.

Dwarves
Overall status: Work in Progress

Units:
Thane
Master Engineer
15 Warriors (HW/S)
20 Thunderers w/shields
Bolt Thrower
2nd Bolt Thrower
12 Ironbreakers
Organ Gun
15 Warriors (HW/S)

Comments: An army I started a long time ago, scrapped, then came back to with the advent of 7th ed and the new book. The finished elements formed my 750pt list for the doubles tournament this year, and the unfinished ones will bring the list to a tentative 1000pts. I intend to return to them intermittently between the Chaos Dwarves and the Spiderwomen. Pictures are due.

High Elves
Overall status: Halted/hiatus

Units:
Mounted Commander
Mounted Mage
2 Foot Mages
At least 40 Spearelves
At least 20 Archers in varying states of repair
10 Silver Helms (and the bits of many more)
10 White Lions
15 Swordmasters (Although these WERE my models, they have since been turned over to my better half for her to test her painting)
2 Dragons
5 Dragon Princes
5 Ellyrian Reavers
2 Chariots
3 RBT's
Great Eagle

Comments: My first army, started some four or five years ago, and the one that has brought me the most heartache. I have next to never won with them (I refuse to go the all cavalry route), and the models have remained unfinished (to a standard I would today accept, anyway) almost the entire time. Currently halted in await of the new book, and most of the old models are due to be sold off. If the new book is good, the new models will be purchased and the army revived. If not, they will be permanently ended.

Ogre Kingdoms
Overall status: On hold

Units:
Tyrant
Butcher
5 Bulls
4 (of 5) Ironguts
3 Bulls
3 Leadbelchers
20 Gnoblar Fighers
2nd Butcher
At least 6 more Bulls
Scraplauncher
2 Gorgers

Comments: An army I had thought of starting because of the models, resisted, and then gave in and bought the batallion. A lot of work has gone into these, and they include 'cast-offs' from Chaos Army 1-three converted Chaos Ogres. I loved my work on those so much that I integrated them into the army (as Ironguts) and planned the army theme around them. Currently on hold, but I will return to them. Pictures due.

Skaven
Current status: Ended

Units:
None

Comments: An army I tried to start, but the thought of all that fur, coupled with the general dislike of the models, changed my mind and I sold what I had of them on eBay. I do still have some Night Runners and character models simply because I like them, but the army has ended. They MAY return as a Mordheim warband one day.

Vampire Counts (Von Carstein)
Overall status: On hold

Units:
Vampire Countess
Vampire Thrall
2 Necromancers
74 Zombies
12 Dire Wolves
6 Ghouls
5 Black Knights (converted)
2 Banshees
2 Bat Swarms (now excluded from the list)

Comments: An army always close to my heart, I finally decided to begin them one fateful night last year, and purchased almost my entire 2000pt army in one go. The entire army is assembled but only the converted Countess is painted. The thought of all those Zombies scares me. They are currently on hold, but I will return to them. (It is likely that once my current projects are complete I will do the VC and OK in tandem). Pictures can be found at my deviantArt (see link above). Better pictures are due.

Warhammer 40K

Space Marines (Custom chapter: 'Stormcallers')
Current status: Hiatus

Units:
Commander
Dreadnought
5 Terminators
2 Tac squads (6 man)
Razorback/Rhino (interchangable)
5 Scouts w/Sniper Rifles and a HB
Land Speeder w/MM
Land Speeder Tornado w/HB and AC
Devastator Squad (6 man)
Bike Squadron (3 Bikes and Attack Bike w/MM)
5 Assault Marines
A handful of 'spare' Tac marines
Predator Annhilator
Predator Destructor
Land Raider

Comments: The Space Marines are what got me into the GW hobby a long, LONG time ago: I started out with 40K (and marines), quit for a long while, then came over to Fantasy five years ago. I've since drifted back to 40K and reassembled the Marine army. Only the Predator Annhilator survives from that time, though: everything else has been obtained since. Since there are no 40K opponents at the present, the army is on hiatus, but I still adore the models and thus will finish them at some point. Pictures due.

Tau Empire
Current status: Hiatus

Units:
Battlesuit Commander
Crisis Suit
24 Fire Warriors
6 Pathfinders
2 Devilfish
3 or 4 more Crisis Suits
At least 12 more FW's
1 or 2 Pirahnas
3 Stealth Suits

Comments: My second 40K army, I started them a while back simply because the models looked cool (I could see great painting potential in them), and the Tau ideology seemed alluring compared to the 'doom and darkness' all the others have. I havn't painted anything yet (the same problem I always had with the Marines: picking a colour scheme. Dark Crusade has helped a bit with that), but have assembled/converted a fair bit. As for the Marines, lack of opponents puts 40K on hold, but I will finish them because of the models. Pictures due.

Phew... There, the summary of nearly five years of Warhammer. All neccesary pictures will appear over the coming weeks, likely starting tomorrow with the Stone Tower Dwarves. Sit back, and enjoy!

Lo, an update strikes! The Chaos Dwarfs finally get off the ground:

Hero w/ GW
15 Warriors (HW/S)
15 Blunderbusses
30 Hobgoblins
2 Bolt Throwers (I have the styrene rods to build them)
Death Rocket (I have a fraction of the bits)
Earthshaker

Yes, the Earthshaker goes from bits, to assembled. Behold!:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v202/MalusCalibur/JamessEarthshaker.png

Based on the design by Xander, I have made the odd improvement of my own such as the back plate (from the Hellcannon) and the skull blended into the front under the barrel. Should be getting onto painting it very soon, so keep your eyes open loyal fans!

I also present the Stone Tower Garrison, my 750pt Dwarf force, in pictorial form:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v202/MalusCalibur/StoneTowerGarrison.png

Master Engineer Logan Rustbeard, Tower Guards, both units of Riflemen, the Ballista and the Ikana Repeater Cannon.

Enjoy!

Battle for Skull Pass finally arrives!

Hero w/ GW
Arcane Engineer (Sorcerer)
15 Warriors (HW/S)
15 Blunderbusses
30 Hobgoblins
2 Bolt Throwers
Death Rocket
Earthshaker

I assembled the models and then arranged them as they will be used in Project Short Hairy Impending Doom [S.H.I.D. for short]:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v202/MalusCalibur/SHIDBfSP.png

I have included one of the cannon crew as an 'Arcane Engineer', who will be used as a Sorcerer.
The Bolt Throwers have not yet been built, but the crew are assembled.
I am still short five Thunderers/Blunderbusses (and also need another two to replace the standard/musician models).
Miners have been used to bulk out the Warrior unit and to replace the missing cannon crew member.
ALL of these models will be converted to some extent.
Work on these models should begin shortly.

Watch this space.

[P.S I realised that five Night Goblins/Hobgoblins are missing from the picture. They are supposed to be a unit of 30 arranged 6 wide, 5 deep]

I strike with a another new update!

I sold off a lot of my old (and a little battered) High Elf army, but some models I could not hand over (memories/impressive paint schemes etc.), and so I have kept a small HE contingent that I will finish, and possibly add to when the book comes out.

Mounted Commander
20 Spearelves
10 White Lions
5 Dragon Princes
5 Ellyrian Reavers
6 Shadow Warriors
Chariot (needs repairing)
1 RBT

My update concerns the mounted commander-he is my long-suffering General and has been since the beginning of my WFB 'career'. He's been through two previous paint schemes but both were done when my ability was somewhat more lacking than it is now. And so, I present Prince Aethenor Lecai, in his newest (and shiniest) form:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v202/MalusCalibur/PrinceAethenorLecai.png

The next step for the Elves will be the Spearelves, who have the first rank finished already:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v202/MalusCalibur/Phalanxfinishedfrontrow.jpg

The colour scheme is such because I read the Iliad as part of my A level Classics course, and utterly adored the depiction of the Greeks. Thus, I tried to replicate it.

Enjoy!

Compared to everything else, it doesn't look like you tried on your high elves.

What do you mean exactly? I would assume that you refer to the Spearelves, and then I can only conclude that you are reaching that judgement because of the quality of the picture.

I must remind you that only the FRONT rank of the Spearelf unit is finished (as stated in my previous post). The other three rows havn't even begun repainting yet, and thus are still in a very poor state (they were originally painted back in my first year).

Another update!

This time, I present two converted models. First, my 'test' Chaos Dwarf, which I constructed yesterday. This model caused me a lot of stress (losing pieces, pieces not fitting properly, green stuff getting wrecked by sculpting), and bloodshed- a nasty Stanley knife cut. After all that, I'm still not very pleased with it, but judge for yourselves:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v202/MalusCalibur/SHIDTestModel.png

Second, I present another addition to the High Elf contingent: a young (in Elf terms, anyway), apprentice (only lvl1) mage called Haldir:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v202/MalusCalibur/Haldir.png
(I realise that the cloak collar is full of holes in this picture-this was attended to and now it is smoothed out with some fold lines sculpted in-just couldn't be bothered to take a whole load of new pictures :D)

This updates my HE contingent list as follows:

Mounted Commander
Mage
20 Spearelves
10 White Lions
5 Dragon Princes
5 Ellyrian Reavers
6 Shadow Warriors
Chariot (needs new horses)
1 RBT

I like the hair on the dwarf, and the helmets great, but the scale mail looks like it could do with a little more attention, thought I dont know what you could do to it, not much of a GSer myself, attack with a knife to redefine the scales?

Well your dwarves seem so clean cut and orderly while your high elves...they really look like you kind of just splattered the paint onto them. :(
They need second coats on several areas, you can see the undercoat shining through and it just bothers me to no end. Your dwarves are fantastic, and then you did a really amateurish job on your High Elves.

I've looked at them both closely and still can't really see what you mean here... I'm confident it's just the quality of the picture. As always the models look better in person, and it is very difficult to get good pictures with the flash on (though I have little choice because the light around here is so very poor). I'll try and get some better ones done when there is more progress.

Been painting the Spearelf Phalanx today, havn't made massive progress but I'll present what I've achieved thus far:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v202/MalusCalibur/Spearelvesrank2WIP.png

As you can see its still WIP-there are splashes of ink in places and obviously they're not done yet. But this picture is better than that of the 'complete' unit so might give a better idea of the colour scheme. I should have the rank complete by tommorow, so keep your eyes peeled.
[BTW the rank IS five models wide, it's just that the fifth one is already finished. I'll display him with the others when they're all done]

Hello once again! This is yesterdays update, coming a little bit late.

I completed the second rank of the Spearelf Phalanx:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v202/MalusCalibur/Spearelvesrank2.png

I also went back to my front rank and 'tidied' them up a bit, covering over ink splashes and refining some details-here is a shot of the finished unit so far:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v202/MalusCalibur/Phalanx2ranks.png

Should have the third rank done (or at least in progress) later today.

Another HE update, I now present the third (and for now, final) rank of the Phalanx:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v202/MalusCalibur/Spearelvesrank3.png

And thus, the (for now) completed Phalanx:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v202/MalusCalibur/Phalanx3ranks.png
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v202/MalusCalibur/Phalanx3ranks2.png
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v202/MalusCalibur/Phalanx3ranks3.png

This thus updates my HE contingent as follows:

Mounted Commander
Mage
15 Spearelves
10 White Lions
15 Swordmasters (I found some more, and 'reclaimed' a handful of the donated)
5 Dragon Princes
5 Ellyrian Reavers
6 Shadow Warriors
Chariot
1 RBT

I have put together a 1000pt list from this contingent, to represent the return of Aethenor to the field of battle:

Prince Aethenor Lecai (Commander)
The Noble Sword (Halberd)
Lecai Shield (Enchanted Shield)
The Jade Eagle (Amulet of Purifying Flame)
Heavy Armour
Barded Steed
Pure of Heart
120pts

Apprentice Haldir (Mage)
Level 1
Annulian Crystal
135pts

Phalanx Primus (15x Spearelves, 5x3 formation)
Standard and Musician, led by Captain Melanar (Champion)
First Among Equals: Sarathai Standard (War Banner)
215pts

Pride and Duty (5x Silverhelms. To be proxied with Dragon Prince models)
Heavy Armour
Shields
Musician
122pts

Saphery's Art (15x Swordmasters, 5x3 or 6x2+3 formation)
Standard and Musician, led by Captain Arandir (Bladelord)
225pts

Ellyrion's Swiftness (5x Ellyrian Reavers)
Musician
97pts

Lance of Khaine (Chariot)
85pts

Total: 999pts

Crystal because Scrolls are boring and predictable. Everything else....well, because I want to! :-D

Also, if anyone was wondering, the Chaos Dwarves are currently on hold as my thumb injury was more severe than I first thought, and I havn't been able to use it properly since, thus ruling out any conversion/sculpting work for the time being. As for the Spiderwomen, I havn't yet decided on a colour scheme and am in fact finding it very difficult to do so, hence their lack of progress.

Hopefully by the next update I should have healed up enough to make a second 'test' Chaos Dwarf, to see if I can improve over the first.
See you then!

I've taken another change of direction and got back to working on my Ogres, assembling a nice new converted BSB for them:

Tyrant
Butcher
3 Bulls
4 Ironguts
Bruiser BSB
3 Bulls
3 Leadbelchers
20 Gnoblar Fighers
2nd Butcher
3 Bulls
1 Leadbelcher
8-10 Gnoblar Trappers
2 Gorgers

Todays update swings back to the Stone Tower Dwarves: they might have another tournament (singles, this time) coming up in June so I got to making some Thanes with Great Weapons (I don't like any of the available 'stock' models).

2 Thanes with Great Weapons
15 Warriors (HW/S)
20 Thunderers w/shields
Bolt Thrower
2nd Bolt Thrower
12 Ironbreakers
Organ Gun
15 Warriors (HW/S)
3 more Ironbreakers

In a sudden rush of productivity, I sat down and painted like a madman over the last 24 hours. My efforts resulted in the following:

2 Thanes with Great Weapons
Runesmith
15 Warriors (HW/S)
20 Thunderers w/shields
Bolt Thrower
2nd Bolt Thrower
12 Ironbreakers
Cannon
Organ Gun
15 Warriors (HW/S)
3 more Ironbreakers

Should be starting my own log soon though, as soon as we've sorted the drivers for the digital camera, and then people can tell the truth about how rubbish my zombies are, I'll be working as quickly as possible on them as well as I still have another regiment of them to build, 2 fell bats on their way and a lot of other stuff. I'll also have to get a few other things sorted and try and balance my money up a bit as I' drivin lessons and got various other things to do like pay for my chemistry revision books.
So until I'm up and running in my own log, take care Maluscalibur fans, and I'm sure i can sort out any queries if you wish to ask him anything. Take care all!!! :D :skull:

I have returned!

My exams are now over and so I return to my projects with haste. I have been home a mere few days and already I have something to present. The Stone Tower Dwarves have their ranks extended by their shiny new invention: the Aeronaut:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v202/MalusCalibur/WindriderWIP.png

As you may have guessed, this contraption is a substitute for the Gyrocopter, since the Gyrocopter model is a little iffy for me, and nigh impossible to assemble with those damnable rotor blades. So, I sat down and converted up this instead. Personally I rather like it :D

The model is in fact finished as I write this, but no decent pictures of it completed exist yet: expect these tommorow [the 14th]. Until then the WIP shots will have to suffice.

Thus the Garrison list is now as follows:
2 Thanes with Great Weapons
Runesmith
15 Warriors (HW/S)
20 Thunderers w/shields
12 Ironbreakers
2 Bolt Throwers
Cannon
Organ Gun
Gyrocopter
15 Warriors (HW/S)
3 more Ironbreakers

The completed Aeronaut, 'Cloudrider'. The wires were an utter nightmare. However, the plane itself is not glued to the wires, so that I always have the privilege of removing it and swooping it around childishly :D

Thank you very much! Always nice to know my work is enjoyed by others :)

Updates are due soon, loyal fans, once my next box of Warriors and the remaining Ironbreakers make a postal appearance. There is something else I could be working on while I wait for them though, so watch this space.

Hello again!

Unfortunately this is not a 'proper' update just yet: no new Dwarfs have tunneled their way through my letterbox and nothing else is completed. However, I have been working on something that I can give you all a preview of:

And yes, all the highlighting did take ages! :D

looking cool the armour looks quite nice but the blue really does bring out the model and looks smooth as well. i like the banner, free hand looks neat :).

even though there still WIP add some sort of free hand of some sort of symbol to the shields as that is the only thing that is looking quite plaine and out of place at the moment but keep up the good work can't wait to see the finished product!!!!

What's that, in the sky? Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No! It's an UPDATE:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v202/MalusCalibur/DragonPrinces.png

The Shining Amethyst of Caledor. Or, as they're better known, my Dragon Princes.

Thus updating the High Elves as such:

Mounted Commander
Mage
15 Spearelves
10 White Lions
15 Swordmasters (Tenuous. The models are so dreadfully static, that I'm crossing my fingers that they get a resculpt sometime soon)
5 Dragon Princes
5 Ellyrian Reavers (awaiting new steeds)
6 Shadow Warriors
Chariot (awaiting new steeds)
1 RBT

Also, word from Stone Tower reaches me that their reinforcements have at last arrived (read: my latest Dwarf order came through today): another 15 Warriors and the final few Ironbreakers. Once those are all done, the 1500pt army is complete and ready for the tournament!

EDIT: You thought I'd forgotten about them, didn't ya? :P

Reinforcements have arrived!

Small update, my new Dwarfs are assembled:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v202/MalusCalibur/DwarfReinforcementsWIP.png

You'll notice an interesting addition in that picture: a converted BSB. I've always needed a Dwarf one but the new model is too...toothy, for my liking, so I made this chap from the spare plastic Warrior. I'm rather pleased with him, even though the GS is a bit wonky in places (it's been tinkered with since, though: looks a little better now).

Stone Tower Garrison now looks like this:

2 Thanes with Great Weapons
Runesmith
BSB
15 Warriors (HW/S)
2 units of 10 Thunderers w/shields
12 Ironbreakers
2 Bolt Throwers
Cannon
Organ Gun
Gyrocopter
15 Warriors (HW/S)
3 Ironbreakers

The tournament I'm preparing them for seems to have been moved back to September, so I'll have longer to work on them: I plan to bulk the Warrior units up to 20.

Textual update:

I've had a bit of a reshuffle of my army and it now looks like this:

2 Thanes with Great Weapons
Runesmith
BSB
20 Warriors (HW/S)
2 units of 10 Thunderers w/shields
15 Ironbreakers
2 Bolt Throwers (1 with Engineer)
Cannon
Organ Gun
Gyrocopter
5 Warriors (HW/S)
15 Warriors [HW/S]

I needed to bump up my Warrior units to 20, so I donated the fitted tray for the 15 strong warriors to the Ironbreakers. I also decided that the existing Warrior unit was just not up to standard (it had been painted, in its entirety, in one day. I didn't finish till 7am the next morning, and THEN had the doubles tournament!), and so I disbanded it, donating five members to the new unit (which is now completed), and plan to donate a further five to the other 15 when they arrive (to make two units of 20). It's a lot of work but I'm very close to finishing my 1500pt army now: just the other 20 Warriors, the BSB, and an Engineer for the second Bolt Thrower.

Wow! Cant wait to see all the models 'up close and personal' so to speak, and the tournament (for those of you who don't know) is the day after my birthday party so will be funny as I will most definately have a hangover. You can look at my movement trays hun, they're on my photobucket, haven't put them on my log yet.
I remember what I said about what I would do if you didn't paint so get paintin.

Goodness me, a comment from Harry! I feel very honoured :)

I've gone back to the Spider Queen and made some changes:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v202/MalusCalibur/SpiderQueenVer2WIP.png

The whip arm has been totally repositioned, as the pose it was in before just seemed unnatural. I also twisted the right arm around a little at the elbow, and replaced the right hand I had sculpted because it was far too big. Also, I thinned out the whip a touch at the handle end. I think she looks much better now.

As for painting the lasses, I really want to get going but I want them to look their best and so I'm a little afraid of starting in case I wreck them: I'm not 100% sure on the colours yet. I was thinking black for the spider bodies, and then blending up to the blue/white skin tone shown in the Slaaneshi troops from the HoC book. Problem is, I've never blended colours like that before and have no idea how.

Watch this space, though. Eventually I'll get the courage :D

P.S: As for the Dwarves, the final Warrior regiment has arrived, but they're on a temporary hiatus while I recuperate my confidence in them (they were crushed *horribly* TWICE last week :().

Another update for the Spiders: the sixth Spidermaiden finally makes her debut, completing the first unit:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v202/MalusCalibur/SpiderMaidensUnit1WIP.png

I've also come up with the list that I'm likely to use for the ladies' games:

Arachni Queen [Daemon Prince(ss)]
General
Mark of Slaanesh
Blade of the Ether
Soul Hunger
Diabolic Splendour
Lvl4 Wizard
575pts

Arachni Priestess [Exalted Daemon(ess)]
Mark of Slaanesh
Spell Breaker
Lvl Wizard
315pts

(6x) 6x Spidermaidens [Mounted Daemonettes]
1080pts

Total Points: 1970 [at a loss as to how to fill this gap, any suggestions?]
Cast Pool: 8
Dispel Pool: 5
Model Count: 38

Yes, I know it's terrible, but it's been made with the theme in mind first and competitiveness second. Plus, I imagine theres a fair degree of psychological warfare in it: an entire army with an effective movement of 20 is pretty scary!

Update time.

The Dwarves are once again bolstered as their final reinforcements arrive. Included among their number are Godric Runeweaver and his assistant from the Engineer's guild:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v202/MalusCalibur/EngineerandRunesmithWIP.png

New Runesmith and Engineer: my old Runesmith just didn't look right anymore. Note that this now means all of my character models are converted.

Army is now as follows:
2 Thanes with Great Weapons
Runesmith
BSB
20 Warriors (HW/S)
2 units of 10 Thunderers w/shields
15 Ironbreakers
2 Bolt Throwers (Engineer/Engineer)
Cannon
Organ Gun
Gyrocopter
20 Warriors (HW/S)

Unfortunately updates might be sparse from this point on, I'm in serious personal and financial trouble at the present. Watch this space and hold your breath, because theres a chance I won't be able to continue :(

The picture quality upgrade showed your HE Spearmen much nicer.

As for Slaanesh arachnids: why not expand? After all, Pleasureseekers and Chariots are on different bases, thus easily identified as such. Making Daemonette-arachnaurs should be no greater challenge because of the bigger scale, surely?

For chariots, think the bug-beast from Starship Troopers, the one that rams through the outpost wall! Less scuttly, more tramply!

Good work!

Actually they're not pre-heresy. They're a group of TS's that were not caught in the Rubric of Ahriman and did not turn to Chaos when the rest of the legion did. Thus, they continue to use the 'proper' TS uniform and badge.

Hey all,

Apologies for my total lack of updates: as well as not really having the time to do any, my motivation has completely deserted me as of late.

But fear not, for I am sure that a time for painting shall return. I'm sitting some resit exams next week, then I'm back for a few weeks before returning to university. However, this does not necessarily mean an end to my updates, for I am to be living in a house where a digital camera and regular internet access should no longer be a problem.

With the new High Elves on the way, I'm sure I will relish the opportunity to get back to my first ever WFB army and bring it up to a reasonable standard.

EDIT: Uh, no. ******* that. Having seen the (finally) confirmed HE rumour thread, I'm thoroughly disappointed in what's to come, rules-wise. Combined with the fact that there's barely a handful of new plastics to pique my interest, I've decided to let this release go by without handing over a single penny. I'm done with HE.

Also, I noticed the new Daemonette models. They're HORRIBLE. They've gone back to the disgustingly ugly and un-Slaaneshy 5th ed style. So I'm going to have to stock up on the old ones ASAP. Does anyone know when the new monstrosities are due? Just to give me some warning of when the old ones might get pulled.

Till next time.

Apologies for the total lack of them, I havn't had access to a camera until now and have been incredibly busy. But now, finally, I've got some news.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v202/MalusCalibur/ArmyShot.png

Apologies for the quality of the pictures, the camera that was used is on a phone and therefore terrible :S Better pictures are due ASAP.

The army includes a 'budget' Anvil of Doom, made from a piece of movement tray and a jam jar lid!

I took this army (minus the Cannon) to a tournament on the 4th, and came 16th out of 23; so I didn't perform terribly well. The Anvil in particular failed to impress, getting itself destroyed in 3 out of 4 games. On the other hand, the Miners were legendary, being charged at one stage by a Shaggoth, taking only a single casualty, then carving three Wounds out of it, chasing after it, then charging it again and killing it!
Due to the performance of the list, and some sage advice from a good friend, I have some changes planned which will involve a few new models. Rest assured, the Dwarves arn't finished with just yet.....

See you all next time,

MalusCalibur

MalusCalibur

Huh...I was expecting more of a reaction to the Dwarves than that :S

Nonetheless, I thought I'd give you all a textual update just so you know that I havnt been buried under unpainted models!

Since the log has trailed off a little in terms of focus, I thought I'd restate the armies I have, accomodating the changes that have been made.

Unit Status Key:
Do not own the model/s
Own the model/s, or some of the pieces required to convert them, but they are either totally unassembled or only partly assembled
Models assembled but unpainted
Models undercoated, or painting is in progress
Finished besides a movement tray.
Completely finished and ready to use

Just to point out, both the 40K armies are unchanged, and for now not included in the list (I'm far more of a Fantasy man to be honest-but the 40K armies are not forgotten).

Dwarves: The Stone Tower Garrison
Overall status: Completed

Units:
King Olaf Ironfist (Lord on Shieldbearers)
Alrik and Thorin Ironfist (Thanes)
Godric Runeweaver + Anvil of Doom (Runesmith/lord and 'budget' Anvil)
Volgrim Proudbeard (Battle Standard Bearer)
Ekrund Firemane (Dragon Slayer, is the AoW model [which is superb])
2x 20 Tower Guards with Shields and Full Command (Warriors)
2x 10 Riflemen with Shields (Thunderers)
2x 10 Crossbowmen with Shields (Quarrelers)
15 Sanctum Guard with Full Command (Ironbreakers)
10-man Tunneler Team (Miners)
2x Ballistae with Engineers (Bolt Throwers, one Engineer is unfinished)
Cannon
Ikana Repeater Cannon (Organ Gun)
Ikana Aeronaut (Gyrocopter)

The good ol' Dwarves come first, since I'd consider them my 'main' army these days, and the second to reach a reasonable stage of completion (i.e. 2000pts). However, as you can see from the list, they are not totally finished yet, and I still have plans for further units such as Longbeards and Hammerers to be added, so keep your eyes peeled for those in the future!

Chaos Daemons: The Arachnia, Spidermaidens of Slaanesh
Overall Status: Work in Progress

Units:
Spider Queen Celeste, the Velvet Maiden (Daemon Prince[ss])
Priestess Arabella Rosetongue (Herald of Slaanesh w/Steed of Slaanesh)
Spidermaidens x6 (Seekers of Slaanesh/Mounted Daemonettes)
Spidermaidens x12[18] (will either be 2 more units of 6 [12] or three more [18])

The Spidermaidens under a new name. Because of the incoming new Daemons of Chaos book, the army composition is going to have to significantly change (no more 'entirely 20" move' army :(), but I should be able to include everything I want and still be happy with it. I'm still undecided on the new plastic Daemonettes, since they look far better painted but still don't compare to the current metals. It is also entirely possible that the army will gain a Khornate aspect (plastic Bloodletters, new Bloodcrusher, and Khorne Herald models are fantastic), although how that will factor in with the theme is as of yet unknown.
And no, you're not reading that wrong. The Queen and her first six Maidens are finished :D

High Elves: Prince Aethenor's Legio Achaia
Overall Status: Work in Progress

Units:
Prince/Noble on Elven Steed/Dragon
Mage on Elven Steed
Mage
Mage
Noble w/Greatsword
Noble/BSB
15 Spearelves with Full Command
5 additional Spearelves
5 Swordmasters (These are PiP)
6 additional Swordmasters (These are only undercoated)
4 additional Swordmasters
5 Dragon Princes with Full Command
Lion Chariot
6 Shadow Warriors
5 Ellyrian Reavers
Repeater Bolt Thrower

After much deliberation I eventualy decided that the High Elf release was worthwhile after all, despite the few new plastics (the ones that WERE done were superb, and you'll notice a wealth of them having been added to the list) Reading through the book, writing it into AB 2, and the games I've played really helped my enthusiasm, and so the High Elves have solidly earned their place back on the list.

Vampire Counts: The Legion of Darkness Eternal
Overall Status: Awaiting Revival

Units:
Vampire Countess
Vampire
2 Necromancers
74 Zombies
11 Dire Wolves
6 Ghouls
5 Black Knights (converted)
2 Banshees

Not a great deal has changed for the Vampires: I havn't touched them for nigh on 2 years: it was all those Zombies! However, with the changes in the new book (which I have on pre-order) I though it would be a good oppurtunity to revive them and make some changes-especially the neccesary ones like perhaps ditching the Banshees.
From what I know of the new Bloodline/Vampire powers, making my old Countess is going to be impossible, so I may have to alter the theme somewhat. I'm seeing more a of an aggressive attacking army with Black/Blood Knights, a Varghulf/Black Coach and mounted Vampires geared for combat, with the Countess herself leading a legion of Skeletons. We'll have to wait and see what develops.

Ogre Kingdoms: Facemangler's Fists of Chaos
Overall Status: Hiatus

Units:
Tyrant
Butcher
BSB
6 Bulls
4 Ironguts
3 Bulls
4 Ironguts
3 Leadbelchers
20 Gnoblar Fighers
Butcher
2 'Chaos Ogre Spawn' (Gorgers)

Again, little change, and apart from four new 'Chosen' Ironguts, they've had nothing added, nor do they have much motivation behind them at present. I've decided to temporarily halt them until said motivation returns, though this will likely be after a fair few other armies.

Dark Elves: ?Unknown?
Overall Status: Potential

Units:
13 Witch Elves

I heard that the Dark Elves were next in line after Daemons. Depending on how good the book is, and how nice the models turn out to be, I might start them up: I've always liked their models (some of the best in WHFB), but have been put off by the weak book and the lack of plastics.

Hordes of Chaos: The Nightmare
Overall Status: Complete

Units:
Lord Asmoth Neth'khadar (Undivided Damon Prince, is the Be'lakor model)
Schneider Darkblade (Undivided Exalted Champion w/Halberd on Chaos Steed)
Vengis the Shadowmaster (Undivided Sorcerer on foot)
The Black Swords (4 Chosen Knights with Full Command)
Flesh Renders (6 Flesh Hounds)
Pleasure Bringers (6 Mounted Daemonettes)
Northman Outriders (6 Marauder Horsemen w/Flails and Musician)
Vultures of Despair (8 Furies)
Screaming Geists (5 Screamers)
Barragor Firemane (Chaos Giant, Mutant Monstrosity)
Kouron the Fallen (Slaaneshi Spawn)
Khaneth the Shamed (Khornate Spawn)

Nothing at all has changed for the Nightmare, but I mention them because rumours tell of a new Hordes of Chaos book in November that is said to disallow the current mix of Mortals and Daemons (each book being far more standalone), which would utterly invalidate this army. If this occurs, the Nightmare will have to be split into its Daemonic elements (led by Neth'khadar, and possibly forming part of a larger Daemon legion with the Arachnia) and it's Mortal elements (a new mortal warband lead by Darkblade), with the Giant perhaps being lost forever (at which possiblity I am highly indignant after all the effort that went into him!).

Chaos Dwarves: Project Short Hairy Impending Doom (working title)
Overall Status: Hiatus

Units:
Hero w/ GW
15 Warriors (HW/S)
15 Blunderbusses
30 Hobgoblins
2 Bolt Throwers
Death Rocket
Earthshaker

Unfortunately, the darker Dwarves have fallen by the wayside a little as of late. I would place them in the same situation as the Ogres at this point: halted, but with the intention of returning to them.

Imperial Guard: 42nd Mordecai
Overall Status: Slow Work in Progress

Units:
Officer
Junior Officer
Guardsmen Squad w/Grenade Launcher
30 Guardsmen (Exact organisation is at present undecided)
Leman Russ w/3 Heavy Bolters

You can blame Dawn of War for this one :D I've become enamoured with the Guard from playing as them, and have bought a few models. Since it's a 40K army it's progress will be slow but you can expect to see it every once in a while.

That's as far as my plans go for now (the loyalist Thousand Sons will likely amount to a 'display' squad and nothing else, but it remains to be seen). I am unfortunately seperated from a camera at present, but come March 20th I will be back home for the Easter holiday (feels weird that this log has been going for over a year!), and will gather pictures of EVERYTHING that is as of yet unseen.

Until then,

The seeming lack of interest from the Warseer community is certainly fueling such a move.

Good to see the maidens finally done. I always did like them. Not a fan of dwarves or ogres but they are painted nice. The vampire maiden is nice again I like the fiery red hair. Only problem I think is that the sword looks way to large to be weilded effectivly in one hand.
Main problem with this thread is the fact that with so many pics per post it takes an ice age to load them. Maybe this is why there are a lack of responses.
keep it up but less pics more often is better than a load at once.

Hey there! Very neat dwarf army. Looks awesome when all togehter on the table. Good job!

Those spiderthingies are very nice too, sweet idea. Nice fire-effect.

keep on painting!

Thank you for the kind replies

I've since realised the folly of so many pictures at once, but unfortunately there was not much I could do to reduce the load without flooding my log with individual posts: as it is I've been the only one posting for the last five or six! (until now, anyway).

It also occurred to me that there a few more things that I don't have pictures of yet, so I'll most likely get those posted tomorrow.

Slight update
To herald the coming of the new Daemons, I've been converting something special.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v202/MalusCalibur/ScorpionMaidenWIP.png

[It's stuck to the base now: I did so after taking the picture]

She will almost certainly be a Fiend.

I'm also in a bit of a dilemma about the core infantry of my daemon army. I should technically have Daemonettes (to fit the Slaanesh theme), but I don't like the new plastics and I'm not too keen on spending some 60 acquiring enough of the metals. Equally, the Daemonettes have not massively impressed me rules-wise, and thematically speaking there is no place for lasses on foot in the Arachnia Cult (and equally, no way to make spider-centaurs that would fit on 25mm bases!).
I do like the Bloodletters, and they fit the Cult's fluff better (all will be revealed) but I have been worried that they will not work well as three MSU, command-less units of 10, which is realistically and points-wise my only option for them.

If anyone can shed any light on this problem for me, I would be most grateful.

What about making some of the demons walk on two legs, with multiple spidery legs sprouting out of their back and coming over their shoulders, like the techmarine or the queen of blades from starcraft.
That would allow you to keep the spider look while still fitting them on a smaller base. Rules-wise, they can be whatever you want them to be.

Interesting idea, but I'm not sure I'd like the effect. Also, it does not solve the problem of what model to use as the 'base'.

I have been at work further, though, on some Furies:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v202/MalusCalibur/HarpyMaidensWIP.png

There are six of them there.

I also have some other 'leftover' models which had not yet been shown in this log, though these will follow in further posts.

At the moment I have a few more dilemmas regarding the daemons. Number one, I still don't know if the Spider Queen should be a Daemon Prince(ss) or a Keeper of Secrets, and it will affect her base. If I decide to go for a KoS, she will either need rebasing (not keen since the one she has is nicely finished), or find a way to extend her 40mm one to a 50mm.

The second issue is on Fiends. Are they DEFINITELY on 50mm bases? Can anyone confirm this to me 100%, without a doubt?

Hello all,

Apologies for my long absence, university and exams took up my time for the last month or so.

I am, however, proud to 'herald' my return with this :D:

As you will know if you've been following my log for a while, I love over-the-top BSB's, and this one is no exception. I'm especially proud of the way it came together :)

I also completed the Fiend so pictures of her will be on the way, as well as a host of other Daemons that I have recently acquired.

Stay tuned.

Hmmm... so glad some one else has put this theory to the test - I have been DIEING to attempt a deamonette spider merger (I am not a fan of the original mounts of slaanesh) and have always wondered if it would work - from what I see here it is brilliant. For the Keeper of Secrets have you thought about using the spider from the "Goblin Warboss on Gigantic Spider" combined with the upper body of one of the Inquisition models (The plan is to give the Keeper a more sci-fi rahter than fantasy feel).

Also think about using the new plastic deamonettes for further variety in your army (I don't like them as much as the late metal models but they are still relatively good)

Already got a KoS.
As for the new Daemonettes, the simple answer is no. I'm really not fond of them, and the chances of me needing them are next to zero anyway.

All of it is rather a moot point anyway, since my Warhammer motivation is currently at a steady nothing and showing no signs of change.

Your spider-daemonettes are really really cool.

I will shamelessly steal your idea, and make some myself. Mine will be all plastic though (I like boobies, just not on my toy soldiers).

Also, I have two of the Giant Spiders/Goblin Warboss models, that I can use to make different models than your hairy vampire queen, One will stay a goblin, the other will be sacrificed. I also have a hairy spider.

Actually just went and checked, I even have a handful of the old metal spiders.

Could be a fun project, this.

Driders... ehhhrr, Slaanesh-Spidergirlies rock. I do like the BfSP-spider bodies more than the big one though.

But man, the bases on the dwarves... AWESOMENESS (yes, all capitals). The idea is so simple, but GENIOUS (haven't seen anyone doing it before).

Regarding your Warhammer motivation, I could imagine you are working on too many different things at once - concentrate on a small force and get it out, or use a bunch of minis testing different painting styles. Try some speed-painting techniques too - you will be amazed how much you can achieve with simple 3-layer techniques, drybrushing and all that sort of "beginner" stuff.
And use the new Washes, they make things a LOT easier and the results are equal to better than anything us "normal" painters can do.
Also, when I am demotivated, I get some friends over and we paint together (and I can look at their skill being even worse than mine, which gives me a boost in self-confidence ;P).

Anyway, get yourself together soldier... there is painting to be done!

Thank you :) Although I would say that though the Dwarf bases look simple, they are anything but to actually paint: it's almost mind-numbingly time consuming.

Yes, there was: I had a local tournament this November and I actually got my Daemon army totally finished in the time. I've not painted a great deal else (other than started working on a converted Bloodthirster) since the motivation/time/energy is all rather lacking again, though.

As for why I've not kept the log updated with this sudden rush is simply down to me not owning a camera at university, and so taking pictures is literally impossible. Which is a shame, as I am very pleased with the Daemons, all in all. Come Christmas, when I'm back at my 'real' home, I'll most likely have another photo-taking session and upload them here in bulk.

As for my next projects, it's rather torn in three unequal pieces.
The first piece is to expand my current Daemons (a Slaanesh/Khorne mix) to be able to field 100% Khorne (hence the Bloodthirster).
The second piece is to start up a Dark Elf army-something I've been meaning to do for some time and the new models have really given me an excuse. This army will begin at Christmas.
The final piece (and the smallest) is to take the remnants of my old Hordes of Chaos army (conveniently rendered useless) and rebuild it into a WoC army.

Keep watching.

Ok, hello everybody, and Merry Christmas to you all!

No pictures yet I'm afraid, but nonetheless I have some updates to mention.

My next projects have been more or less cemented as the Khorne Daemons and Dark Elves: both of which have recieved some bolstering as a result of my family's Christmas generosity. Pictures are soon to follow. Also worthy of note are my Vampire Counts, who are under some (slow) rennovation as well. Stay tuned for those as well.

[Shameless promotion]On a completely unrelated tangent, go and look at this: http://jdragon56.deviantart.com/art/Malus-The-Guy-107321207 , because it is pure awesome condensed.[/Shameless promotion]

See you all soon (with pictures).

Hello to any and all who might still read this.

I've decided to restart my Warhammer logging, but not in this thread, as it has become too cluttered and disorganised, as well as being buried in the archives of Warseer. I will be starting two new logs: a WFB one and a 40K one, seperately, as and when. The links to these logs will be found in my signature.
Please do come and have a look!
