:::BATTLE REPORT:::
Turn 1
The Tau commander was smart enough to figure out the chaos were coming and deployed knowing that superior firing positions would give him an upper advantage. The Chaos commander decided that the only way to win this battle was to create a massive tide of chaos, and charge them into the tau firing lines.

Setup
http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b296/Theadium/Brian007.jpg

(Movement-Tau) The Tau commander ordered mobilization and ordered the crisis and stealth to move behind the cover of a nearby tree line on the right flank. The Hammerhead commander looked out into the vast valleys to find 5 Lascannons pointed at it, and decided to hide behind more woods, feeling very secure that the kroot would be there to soak up any fire before anyone could shoot at the hammerhead itself.
(Shooting-Tau) The hammerhead commander now feeling more secure decided to fire up the railgun and decided to shoot the raw energy into an "innocent" squad of Chaos Space Marines. 2 of the scoundrals never made it out of there alive, thier arms and legs shot off... The kroot feeling all proud about themselves decided to shoot at the obliterators, but due to the Daemons strong armor, the obliterators laughed at the kroot...
(Assault-Tau) Haha, Tau assaulting, thats funny...

(Movement-Chaos) The tides of chaos decided to do one thing they are good at, be maniacal... They all screamed as they charged forward.
(Shooting-Chaos) The havoc squad decided to shoot the yellow kroot hiding in the trees with thier heavy weapons, since thier main target was hiding... 2 of the kroot drop down dead with thier heads removed. The Obliterators, just mad because they got shot at, shot at the kroot with thier heavy bolters... 2 more died from the Obliterators massive shots... (Poor Kroot)
(Assault-Chaos) The chaos wished they could have assaulted...

http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b296/Theadium/Brian008.jpg

Turn 2
(Movement-Tau) The Crisis and stealth suits decided to jump over the woods, and laugh as a chaos marine looked over, and stopped dead in his tracks cursing... The Kroot moved up to get a better view of thier heavy weapon wielding foes.
(Shooting-Tau) The railgun shot once again, killing 1 Chaos marine. The shriek of plasma coming from the plasma rifles mounted on the crisis not only made the air burn, but engulfed 2 marines with it. The missiles went flying but locked onto the wrong target, smashing into the ground at the marine's feet. The Stealth Suits guns blazed, and when the smoke rised, they saw 3 marines drop on thier faces dead... The smart missile systems shot at an obliterator and the missile hit him in the leg. He let out a hideous laugh, and a second later the missile exploded... The grim smear on his face faded away as he began limping.
(Assault-Tau) The Crisis and Stealth suits utalizing the fact that they were afloat above the forest rocketed back behind the trees to remain safe...

(Movement-Chaos) The Chaos commander looked at the losses just from the crisis, and decided not to head towards them, and formed a huge gigantic clot of marines in the middle. The Obliterators still advance on the kroot thirsty for blood...
(Shooting-Chaos) The Havocs scanned the battlefield, and decided they were bored looking for armor, and shot at the kroot, again, another 2 buckled down in the woods. The Obliterators cruely shot heavy bolters into them and dropped 1 measly kroot.
(Assault-Chaos) The Obliterators see the kroot, and decide to bash thier heads open. The kroot looked at the gargant foes charging at them, and armed themselves for combat. The kroot jumped out of the forests and stabbed the obliterators, jabbing and slicing as much as they could. 2 of the obliterators smeared at thier attackers pitiful attempts to smash thier armor, and under cut 2 of thier chests off... The other kroot ran from the scene wide eyed and scared... The 3 of them sprinted out of the woods, while the obliterators took up firing positions in the woods...

Turn 3
(Movement-Tau) The Tau commander was now in rutine now, moving the Crisis and Stealth suits acrost the wooded area... The Hammerhead commander got scared as he saw the meatwall was just taken out by people with very BIG guns, and fell back alittle.
(Shooting-Tau) While falling back, the Tau Hammerheads Railgun was still searching for fresh targets, and found exactly what it wanted. A huge clump of marines was charging up the battlefield. A blast of energy flew from the barrel and hit a marine dead on, killing him instantaiously, and the shot spread out in a fraction of a second, engulfing 6 more marines. The rest of them were scattered, getting to thier feet, they saw thier dead brothers, and wanted to kill thier foes even more. the marines suddenly forgot that he was 2 in number, and got back up... The Suits were wating for them to get back up, and roasted the veteran sergeant with volleys of fire... The kroot decided to take some pot shots at the obliterators, still not reaching the target.
(Assault-Tau) The Crisis retreated to thier favored postion, nice and safe...

(Movement-Chaos) The Chaos decided to get back up, and slaughter thier deadly foes. The last Marine in a squad's feelings of bloodlust were so great a pack of Bloodletters showed up to help spread the blood. The army split into 2 sections, 3 squads (including bloodletters) go for the suits and the other squad and obliterators go for the firing line.
(Shooting-Chaos) The Havocs seemed bored, STILL, and shot at the "harmless" fire warriors, they dropped 3 from the rankings and laughed a heartless laugh, their objective was stolen from them... The Obliterators, on the other hand, spotted the tank, and one of them, seeking revenge, hit the tank. Of course the decoy launchers through off the targeting systems of the obliterator, and didnt pierce the armor.
(Assault-Chaos) Haha, thats funny...

http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b296/Theadium/Brian001.jpg

Turn 4
(Movement-Tau) The regular, if you cannot figure out what that is, look at the last 2 turns.
(Shooting-Tau) The Suits, now realizing that the bloodletters are getting closer, unloaded all thier fire on them... 8 popped out of existance, and the remaining 2 wanted nothing more than kill the suits. The kroot once again took shots at the obliterators, with once again no luck. The Smart Missile Systems took a wild shot at the obliterator he already wounded. The shot came smashing down into his armor, exploding the daemon into a thousand pieces as it exploded. Meanwhile, the tau realized they saw a chaos marine in thier range. 2 squads shot, and punctured 8 holes into the last chaos space marine of a squad. The railgun sounded off in the background, ripping apart a marine in his tracks...
(Assault-Tau) The normal... (alittle bit repetative)

(Movement-Chaos) Thier numbers really thinning, the assualting force of the army got even closer to thier targets. The Obliterators jumped out of the woods sick of being in them... The other squad advanced on the firewarriors...
(Shooting-Chaos) The obliterators took thier lascannons to bear, and blew a hole into the railgun. The Havocs found a crisis floating in the air, and hit it once with an autocannon and blew off a foot...
(Assault-Chaos) The Bloodletters try to charge, but fall short...

http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b296/Theadium/Brian002.jpg

[i]Turn 5
(Movement-Tau) The regular...
(Shooting-Tau) The Crisis finished off the bloodletters, the stealth suits shot at a bigger marine squad, dropping 2 marines.
(Assault-Tau) The Tau moved back to thier main firing line to support the firewarriors

(Movement-Chaos) This is where the Chaos looked desparate, 2 marines charged the Tau right flank, getting just out of rapid fire range.
(Shooting-Chaos) The Obliterators moved up and shot down some guardsmen. The havocs continued thier firewarrior killing spree, killing 2...
(Assault-Chaos) NADA!

http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b296/Theadium/Brian003.jpg

Turn 6
(Movement-Tau) The guardsmen moved out of the way so the Obliterators couldnt assault. The Fire warriors on the right moved to assist the left side.
(Shooting-Tau) The Hammerhead shot its missiles at the obliterators with no effect. The Fire warriors shot down the remaining 2 marines on the right flank, and shot down 3 marines on the left side. This left 2 marines and 2 obliterators on the left side.
(Assault-Tau) The crisis and stealth moved more to the left to assist those in need.

(Movement-Chaos) The 4 people moved up, 2 of which in assault range.
(Shooting-Chaos)The Obliterators shot at the full Tau squad and took down 2, while the havocs killed another 3.
(Assualt-Chaos) The chaos marines (2) ran up each engaging nearby squads, and both having great sucess, having each firewarrior squad fall off the board. They may have gotten them off the board, but the rest of the Firewarriors would have shot them down....

Im currently uploading images, they will be up soon... NOTE TO ALL::: The basement we played in is under renovation, so we didnt have any nice table. We had pretty nice terrain, not flocky table though. And another thing, both armies are developing... So they arnt painted to standards... Anyway, it gives you a tactical sense...

Nice pics and write-up.

One thing I would say is there probably needs to be a bit more terrain on the table, maybe just some hills in the centre to block some LOS?

Good battle report, I would say that you need a lot more terrain on the table than can be seen as 40k really does benefit from more cover, unlike warhammer.

And the chaos player needs to get some tanks!

Very nice. I enjoyed it a lot. You should submit it on the actual WarSeer site. (http://www.warseer.com/category/batreps/)

Well done!

Very nice. Pity for the Chaos commander that he wasn't lucky, it seems that he failed a horrendous number of 3+ saves!

Yeah, it was not like me... ugh... Anyway, it was a fun battle, and expect another one, Tau vs. Marines, soon... That was a pretty good battle too... Anyway, I learned that I am used to using Khorne armies, where numbers can work because of speed...

nice one! :D havent seen battle report before on forums like the armys i collect tau to (and chaos and necrons and ork speed freaks and isengard) i might try one of these myself although my board needs improving (i kind of (not very well) copied one from a WD article about fire warrior)

This is Blue Midgets of Doom's board, I wanna play on mine, it has nice grass and all that fun stuff, I just need to get some more terrain... Yeah, I actually like this battle although I lost... The next battle report (battle played yesterday) will be written by someone else, since I find myself descriptive in the begginging and "3 wounds, 1 dead" in the end, so the ref is gonna be writing it. I am uploading pictures, so expect the report in a few days...

A very nice report, the pics were well done, and I enjoyed it.

If this has already been said, I apologize. I only read the battle report itself. But in my opinion, the Chaos player should've had a few things that could get into hth a lot quicker than his basic footsloggers. Even transports would've been helpful. In a case like this, you don't ride in the transports. You run BEHIND them. Can you say 'mobile terrrain'? ;) Even if the transports are destroyed, they block LOS unless a 6 is rolled on the Penetration chart. And fi not utterly destroyed, they will proved a 4+ cover save for the squads that would then be moving through them fro a turn or two.

At the very least, the transports would protect the units from one turn of shooting. And you saw how damaging the Chaos army was when they finally got into hth, even though only a handful made it.

Anyway, that's my tactical advice. If you're going to make an army who's main emphasis is HTH combat, then you need a few fast units to get into hth quickly, so that the whole army doesn't get shot to '$hi+', like in this case.

ugh, I know... Basically think of it like from my perspective...

I usually run 24 Bezerkers, but of course, I got new Marines from a friend. So trying out an all Undivided army hurt me because I didnt have any fast units (Bezerkers with blood rage). I usually take a rhino, but in this case it wasnt worth it, it would have gotten blown up in the first turn. On the other hand though, i could have used it as bait for the hammerhead to engage it and laugh as the havocs and obliterators kill it! Yeah, basically my plan for this army from the start was to just go for a full out charge. The Firewarriors really didnt do much, like I expected, but the suits... They always screw me over. So halfway through the game I decided to send half of my army at the specialist units, which was a mistake. I now realize if I ran forward I could have cut a turn off of the game and gotten into combat 5th turn and made all the little warriors run. :D Too bad I didnt do it. I am currently arming myself to the teeth getting ready for an RTT that is coming up in 2 days... So I took the mistakes I made in this battle to help me form my Ultramarines list. It is currently at this link if you guys wanna check it out...

My friends and I are used to little terrain, as we dont have that much to offer. I wish we have more terrain, I have to start making some...

Just make a few more forests. They're the simplest to do. And then you have some blocking/level 3 area terrain and some difficult ground.

wow that looked like a highly tactical and enjoyable game of "walk forwards and shoot" - not.

Nice write-up and pics.:)

I'd advise using more terrain though and playing more interesting missions as this really was a simplistic "run-forward and die" game.

Fantastic write up. Hopefull more people will follow your example and have this kind of standard when making a battle report. Pictures are the best way to let someone in on what happened... and you did just that.

Good work.

Oh, almost forgot. I think the Chaos player needs a hug.
