To all those DA players struggling to find names for their characters here is a little gem of a website for you to explore. should be of interest to all DA players.

And, more than likely, the DA players that have been around a while, already know of the site :D

But it is a nice thing to have for the newer players! :)

Also, just googling for 'angel names' works as well. And will give meanings behind the names, should anyone want to give their characters a more appropriate look or feel to match the names.

Old Testament names are also common amongst the DA, notably Ezekiel and Naaman (God rest his soul).

when were the Dark Angels released?

Obviously some time after the creation of the universe, but before the war in heaven.

Dark Angels character names are all demons, except librarians.

No they're not.

They're a mix of angels, deamons, and other biblical names.

Was a post on B&C's DA section about a seeming 'pattern' to the names of each type of character. I'll dig it up in a sec here...

Right. Ezekiel was a Jewish Prophet, and Naaman was a non-Jewish leper healed of his leprosy in the Old Testament.

To be fair, though, there are alot of angel/demon names amongst the DA.

Ezekial yes they are, not trying to be a tool. But they are named for demons. Azrael is the Islamic Archangel/obscure christian lesser demon general. Belial is in charge of the north quarter of hell, Asmodai, Uzziel, Sapphon actually sapphon im not sure of. These arnt in the bible but were int he cast out books and dead sea scrolls or somthing similar. not all of them are some have biblical names. Sammael is some ficitonal ethical archetype but samael is a demon.

I used to be a bible scholar

Well it's really up to GW to say which they're from, as most of those names come from both sides of the fence. for instance, Sammael, is (also) an angel name... just one quote, from one site "Sammael is the angel of souls and is considered both good an eveil and good angel, he is known as the chief ruler of the fifth heavan. He is also known as the angel sent by God to carry the soul of Moses at the time of his death".

"In Muslim and Islam theology, Azrael is the Angel of Death who is "forever writing in a large book and forever erasing what he writes: what he writes is the birth of man, what he erases is the name of the man at death.""

Others would appear to be adaptations of angel names. As seen by *many* sites that have lists of angel names and their meanings.

But as said, they're not 'all' deamon names. Nor are they all angel names.

"Belial is said to be very respectful. Belial is also the demon of lust. As a Prince of Hell, he commands 80 Legions of Demons and is specifically the Prince reigning over the Northern Reaches of Hell. The other princes include: Gaap, Asmoday, and Vassago."

They're a mix of both, and only GW can tell us their sources of influence. But personal opinion of the sources, would seem to come down to just how one views them. Weather an 'archangel', or even an 'angel over death' is considered still an angel, or a deamon instead.
