Quick question: If a model with a great weapon charges which rule takes presidence; the charging unit goes first, or the great weapon strikes last?

Charging unit goes first.

A unit with great weapons still strikes first on the charge.

Hi

BRBR, p.55 very explicitly given in the left column, second paragraph, under Weapon rules...

For a bit of needless blather, I'm sure I read in an advance copy of the 7th edition rulebook that mounted models with Great Weapons would always always always strike last. I even repeated it on these forums. But then it never materialised. Anyone see the same thing, or was I just hallucinating?

Never. But since there was a time when models with great weapons stroke last even in charges, your hallucination is justified.

No, but they do suck in their own special way of being s+1 strike last weapons at all times other than the charge now :(

The Empire knights with Great Weapons aren't particualarilly... great. Even if you upgrade them to Inner Circle Knights you are still better off equipping them with lances and shields which adds to both offense and defense.

They should have at least allowed Empire Lance + Shield to be swapped for Great Weapon and Plate Armour, give the White Wolves a bit more staying power.

They have full plate EvC.

White wolf cavalry hammers should just count as halberds.

Oh, I thought that was only when upgraded to Inner Circle. Never mind! :)

IC upgrade gives them S4. so regular knights have a 1+. Not to shaby for 23 points (IIRC)

and to think that the new pistoliers/outriders have light armour, despite being covered all over their body in obvious heavy plate.

With the advent of 7th edition I think it would have been best if mounted Great Weapons simply had +2S on the charge and +1S otherwise. It's hardly an overpowering addition to the current rule and doesn't completely neuter units already in existence.

Cheers,

You no longer have white wolves. Well, not officially now, you can just have kinights with great weapons.

Kinights? I sound like the frenchman from the Holy Grail!

Ive used my knights with GW, it suddenly become handy when you are charged... Still, the cost parity does not seem right...
+2st on charge +1 AS
Vs
+1St at all times... dunno...

Wait i have not got the new (well sorta...) rulebook yet but do great weapons only give +1 strength now?

Stupid question i know but still.

Only if you are mounted. If you are on foot then you get +2
