odd name for a title? maybe, but it nicely describes what i was trying to do.

a while back, an artist who i regularly chat with on an art site mentioned that he'd like to do some art trades with some of the other artists on the site. only problem is, im not an artist, and i cant draw to save myself, so he suggested i make a model of one of the characters in one of the drawings he has done.

my mission. to make/sculpt/convert a drawing into a mini.

first, the pic in question:

the small one on the right is the one i was asked to model.

step one: basic framework.
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/381289/

after years of modelling plantigrade legs, it was kinda hard to suddenly stop and make digitgrade legs. went through a couple of tries befor i managed to get the angles right.

fur is also a new thing for me. fortunately, there was an article in WD on making furry hats for vostroyans, which was simple enough for me to adapt.

step two: the hat!

very easy. made a cast of the limited edition inquisitor's hat, then extended it with more greenstuff for the witch's hat look. i also have a hat mold now, which is a plus for me :D

step three: more fur and cloth
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/392781/

used the clothy things from the wraithlord for the loin cloth and such, then simply greenstuffed the missing bits and gave the legs the fur treatment as well. it gets easier each time you do it.

step four: arms and shoulders.

tau bits here. the left hand is actually the hand that holds the little scanner thing. i merely carved it out with a scalpel. a tip for anyone who attempts that, take it slow and watch your fingers.

it shouldnt be long till i finish it now. just have to GS the head and arms. ill post pics when its 100% done.

and C&C so far? id like to hear what you think.

Really nice GS'ing. Cool idea with translating a drawing into a model. Might have to do that myself once.

EDIT: the guy in the drawing looks like he's only got one leg? Or is he just walking like the forgeworld avatar? Enlighten me

its posed with one foot in front of the other, kinda like a tight rope walker pose.
