With so many Ork lovers but so few ork projects at warseer i thought its about time to start a new waaagh!

I'm a kinda lazy painter and i tend to part my rare paint time between several armies (blood axe's, iyanden, word bearers, sororitas, fantasy norsk and fantasy goblins) so this project might take some time. As an offset to this i have painted quite a few of my orkz allready.

Lets start with a group picture of The Red Stripez (maybe i should work on a propa name for my boyz soon :p )
http://homepages.fh-giessen.de/~hg13479/images/orkz/da_horde.jpg

Waaaghboss Waaaghdreg; biggest, meanest and most kleva of all orkz
http://homepages.fh-giessen.de/~hg13479/images/orkz/da_bigboss.jpg

Boss Barbozza; even more kleva than Waaaghdreg

now finally the things i gonna work on next

my cybork mob. have 4 old mega armours and some semi converted orks for a mob of 9.
http://homepages.fh-giessen.de/~hg13479/images/orkz/cyborks.jpg

and my first looted vehicle. ofc a basilisk :P
maybe i will add some catwalks to the sides and a big krusha infront...
think i will paint it in urban camo. not sure on this though.

http://homepages.fh-giessen.de/~hg13479/images/orkz/basi_1.jpg
http://homepages.fh-giessen.de/~hg13479/images/orkz/basi_2.jpg

after that i'll aim for a speed freakz theme and add a bunch of buggies, warbikes and trukkz.
dont have an army list because i dont wanna build my models with an army list in mind but the opposite.

Looks good! That basilisc conversion looks awesome! You should try to get better light when you're taking pictures, it's only the last few pics where you can see the figures good

Sorry for the bad light. Will try better next time ;)

Not happy with my basilisk yet. Its not big enough yet.
What do you think of this concept?

oh looks like i forgot the extra wheel next to the boarding ramp.

some more work on the looted tank:

http://homepages.fh-giessen.de/~hg13479/images/orkz/basiWIP/basi02.jpg
http://homepages.fh-giessen.de/~hg13479/images/orkz/basiWIP/basi03.jpg

still have to add the force field generator and a wheel at the front left side.
not sure if i like the boarding ramp... maybe i will replace it with something more spiky.

now its a propa battlewagon, isnt it?

I think the gun would look more like a Kannon then a Basilisk if you cut it down at center line and angled it to direct fire. That would solve a lot of the "That looks like a looted Basilisk?" problem. The Earthshaker cannon is too iconic as a Basilisk to leave as is.

Yarr, now dat's a Battul-waggun! Good work, Boss!

Hmm i'll think about this. Might look really nice. Maybe it needs a bigger barrel then though.

With the Basilisk transformed into a propa Ork tank i still have a demolisher and a hellhound to convert.
Think i will keep the Demolisher as a looted tank and convert the hellhound into another battlewagon (with zap gun this time).

Nice work. It no longer looks like a looted Basilisk. Very Ramshackle.

I would still angle the Earthshaker to point forward more, but if it is glued, it is glued.

Huge improvements on this model. High level of detail. Demonstrated modeling skill. I salute you.

ty and no the cannon isnt glued yet. Still movable.

The best thing about this is that i feel like a true ork mek while i customize ork vehicles. Its so much fun :)

Really good work - it's great to see the odd old Ork model still getting used. Some of them used to have real character...

Love the battlewagon....

Wasnt sure how to paint the battlewagon so i built a skorcha buggy first to try out a camo scheme.
The rusted metal look doesnt appeal me and urban camo is too greyish for my liking.
Instead i went for a desert camo this time (fits perfect because the boyz have wood bases :P).

Do you think such a camo will suit my battlewagon well?

You seem to have a fantastically Orky Mind when it comes to building your own vehicles... kinda reminds me of that magazine 'Gubbinz' they used to have...

Thanks but what do you think about the camo pattern?
Does it suit a big vehicle like the battlewagon?

Nife
15-03-2007, 10:08
Whether it'd suit a big vehicle, well we'd probably need to see it on the battlewagon. In my opinion I think it'd look good painted on bits of it, with some areas a different colour (to represent the looting nature of Orks)...

Excellent battlewagon btw...

I think certain sections can be camouflaged. but you should use it sparingly... like, the gun deck for example, IMO, don't think need to be camouflaged.

I think if you used the camouflage only on certain points (again spreading it out across the model sparingly) it will create a more orky vehicle where you can see all the different skraps they used to make up this battlewagon. I remember another blood ax battlewagon where the painter actually used a variety of Imperial Guard tank parts that were painted in Imperial Colour Schemes... so you had a whole bunch of different camouflage patterns on the vehicle - BUT he used only few of these parts, and left about 50% of the model Ork coloured, the browns, the rusty metal colours, and the Red painted on top (in an orky fashion - i.e. everything underneath showing).

think about it, play around with it.

Was kinda busy with work so no updates on the tank but instead i had some time to build a first army list for my horde.

The first detachment is going to use the Bad Moon clan rules because its Waaaghdregs personal bodyguard and thus they are the richest orks of the waaagh.
(Note: Every bigboss will have his own detachment with its own army list. In big fights parts of detachments will merge with one of these core armies. Btw next on route is the typical 'ard armor, power klaw, choppa bigboss)

Waaaghboss Waaaghdregs detachment
1 Warboss (HQ) @ 100 Pts
Power Klaw; Kustom Mega-Blasta
Mega-Armour
Cybork Body
9 'Ard Boyz (Elites) @ 126 Pts

1 Battlewagon (Heavy Support) @ 155 Pts
Twin Linked Big Shoota (x2); Kannon (x1)
Red Paint Job
Grot Riggers
Turbo Boosta
10 pt. Armour Plates

1 Painboss (HQ) @ 187 Pts
Choppa (x1); Slugga (x1)
9 Cybork Bodyguard
Slugga & Choppa
1 Trukk
Rokkit Launcha (x1)
5 pt. Armour Plates
Grot Riggers

10 Flash Gitz (Troops) @ 122 Pts
Shoota (x6); Big Shoota (x4)

9 Flash Gitz (Troops) @ 165 Pts

1 Warbuggies / Wartracks (Fast Attack) @ 38 Pts
Skorcha (x1)

2 Killer Kan (Heavy Support) @ 100 Pts
Big Shoota
5 pt. Armour Plates

1 Leman Russ Demolisher (Heavy Support) @ 167 Pts
Leman Russ Demolisher; Demolisher Cannon; Heavy Bolter; 2 Spn. Heavy
Bolters
Grot Riggers

Models in Army: 51
Total Army Cost: 1250

This list might change if i feel the urge to paint/convert other stuff first.
But as you see Waaaghdreg doesnt believe in the Goff foot slogger attempt.
Instead he prefers tanks, mobility and lots of dakka dakka.
The first thing to improve is to beef up the squad size and add some power klaw wielding nobs to the mobs. Maybe i'll have to leave the killa kans at home or wait for bigger games.

Now the cunning plan (Waaaghboss interrogated a captured human general about propa tactics. This is the result.):

Boyz lissen ter yer boss.
Da plan iz ter split our force in twuu parts.
Mekboy Meklaut yer goin' ter lead da anvil.
Take da flash gitz, da kans an da demolisha an advanz towards da enemy.
Da rest o' da boyz will follow meeb an mi command tank. Mi force iz called da 'ammer.
Weeb will stomp da enemy 'orde from da side an 'erd dim inta da anvil.

My first enemy is most likely a bunch of tyranids so the masta plan might not work that well but Waaaghdreg is a cunning leader of hundreds of battles so he will adapt fast and change da plan accordingly. After all he is a Blood Axe and not a dull Goff ;)

Ter be 'onest mi Orks dont believe this red paint dingy.
They know from severul interrogashunz o' uumie mechanics an guard officaz dat da red paint job doesnt make vehiclz fasta but dat it 'asta be sumthing different. Oww, da bigg wurdz make mi 'ed 'urt!

Wow, that thing is lookin' good! And that's coming from a firmly indoctrinated Imperial player (space marines and imperial guard). However, doesn't orks despise camo? I might be wrong but I do remember reading something about that in the Ork codex...

I salute your awesomeness!

I simply love the desert-scheme, very well executed.
Although I think you might want to do some extra work on the metal of the guns, maybe add weathering or ink?

Keep it up!

Thats Goffs.

Other clanz that wear bright colours and patterns are simply mocked as not proper Orks, or as just plain weedy

Blood Axes are a different story.

The Blood Axes
...Warriors wear helmets, combat fatigues, and forage caps. These accoutrements are drab in colour and are usually patterned in camouflage.
Unlike other orks Blood Axes know that camo is useful. They may not understand that desert camo isnt that useful on a jungle world but nonetheless they will wear it ;)

Asymmetrical? What are you talking about? *scratch head* :p

Btw Mork enlighted me in a dream to build a battlwagon shaped like him. So i started to work on it yesterday.
The framework is a looted griffon tank but in the end it will look like a stompa bot on tank tracks with a deffrolla infront and a kannon in the head.
So far i built the raw torso and its bigger than i thought. Currently it dwarfes my looted demolisher 3 to 1 and the head isnt even on it yet.

Rules wise this one will have:
Deffrolla (magnetized if possible), 'ard case, up to 4 big shootas (magnetized), and a kannon/killakannon (magnetized to allow both versions).
Maybe a magnetized grabbin' klaw and wrecking ball find a place somwehere too.

Hope it doenst grow too much like my looted basilisk or i have to use it as a stompa in the end instead of a battlewagon ;)
