Another day, another project.

This time, it's for the greater good though...

This fleet is headed up by the prototype of the Custodian class. Here's the 'Keeper'

This model was scratch built.

Clocky for Bog

Most of the detail is painted on, with copious black lining from my 0.05mm pigment pen..

A flight of Wardens, to go with the Keeper

Clucky for Bug

Next up, castellans and emissaries, plus some interesting 'Counts as' models...

I hate to say it, but the flagship looks a little... well, cartoony. I think it's the patchwork of different-coloured sections with extremely heavy blacklining separating them.

Other than that, looks great.

Well spotted :)

Given the bland surfaces on the original model, I felt I had to add an extra level of detail - also, given that it's a prototype, you'd expect it to have some 'rough edges' :)

I may revisit it at some stage - probably after I have a real custodian to compare with.

Two emmissary class cruisers, the Mute Courier and the Wings of Eternal Freedom

This sequence of shots shows just how much variance in position can be achieved by mounting on neodynium magnets...

Wow there is a lot of details on these guys!
Great Job!!!!

I like the emissary class cruisers a lot, they look very nice.

The Custodian is pushing "too busy" feeling I think, but it looks nice as well, I certainly don't have the patience for that kind of painting.

-peace out

The flagship would be good for Chaos or Orks, but considering it's scratch-built it's really okey. Always good to see more Battlefleet Gothic, though. :)

Castellans:

The Gatekeeper, the Keyholder and the Yes, Have some

Clecky for Beg

Isn't it horrible when you see pictures of your own stuff and realise you missed a bit?

What bits did you use to scratch build the flagship?

What bits did you use to scratch build the flagship?

I think the main bits were from a klingon D7 cruiser kit and two empty pencil lead containers. There's a tau drone and pulse rifles in there, it was just stuff from my bits box that Oli from Cutting edge models (http://www.cuttingedgemodels.co.uk/) took and added his own unique style to.

Ah, a proper scratchbuild :p

Looks good, keep it up.

Here's the first 'Counts as' Explorer class vessel Pathfinder

http://greblord.weegeeks.com/data/countsas_explorer_side_small.jpg (http://greblord.weegeeks.com/data/countsas_explorer_side_big.jpg)
http://greblord.weegeeks.com/data/countsas_explorer_top_small.jpg (http://greblord.weegeeks.com/data/countsas_explorer_top_big.jpg)

Hmm, it's a while since I painted this - looks like it needs a touch up. I'll compare it to the real Explorer when it arrives, and it may be retired and only drummed into service when required...

'Counts as' Hero - the 'Soundchaser'

http://greblord.weegeeks.com/data/countsas_hero_top_small.jpg (http://greblord.weegeeks.com/data/countsas_hero_top_big.jpg)

Yeah ok, rumbled - it's a plastic republican cruiser from Star Wars. Very Tau-like IMHO, though...

I like everything except the Keeper, it looks a little too cartoony for my tastes.

The rest of it is really good, nice colours. The Republic crusier looks the business especially :)

The Last 'Counts as' - the merchant vessel 'Deliverance'

http://greblord.weegeeks.com/data/countsas_merchant_side_smal.jpg (http://greblord.weegeeks.com/data/countsas_merchant_side_big.jpg)
http://greblord.weegeeks.com/data/countsas_merchant_top_small.jpg (http://greblord.weegeeks.com/data/countsas_merchant_top_big.jpg)

There's a real one of these on the way too, with orcas. I have a feeling that the GW ones will be much larger than the counts as models...

I've been using neodynium (rare earth) magnets to base most of my fleet - this means I can 'snap-on' and 'snap-off' ships for storage and transportation...

http://greblord.weegeeks.com/data/neodynium_base_small.jpg (http://greblord.weegeeks.com/data/neodynium_base_big.jpg)http://greblord.weegeeks.com/data/neodynium_ship_small.jpg (http://greblord.weegeeks.com/data/neodynium_ship_big.jpg)

note the angle on the mounting of the magnet on the base - I like to have a bit of attitude on my models, but if you want them flat, cut the base flat :)
I won't recommend the shop where I bought them, as I feel I was ripped off on postage (they charged me 5 for about 27p's worth of postage) and they also charged VAT on the postage, which I believe is illegal.

The magnets shown are 3x1mm rounds. I may purchase some 2x1mm round magnets too (from a different place). 3mm is the size of the flying base with the tip removed, 2mm is the size of the tip.

I like the first ship a lot. It looks busy, in a way that starships should. :)

OK, so I won some painted tau ships on ebay. A bit of painting later and the first of them has reappeared in my Dal'yth livery. And here it is, Explorer class vessel:

I feel the Click. The Click for Big.

hey... that model is sitting on my desk..Its a star wars thing innit (idk cuz I don't realy care for star wars) and its red...long since busted though. Nice use of other models, though I don't think it looks too tau, its close enogh andvery nice.
bravo!
