The first model for my DW will be a left-over from my BR army which Im selling right now. It's a FW dread which I did not use in my force because when I ordered one, FW accidently sent me 2!

So heres a very rough WIP of the DW left arm, Enjoy! I realize that while looking at this pic The bottom edge is really wavy, that will be fixed:)

Dude, that Night Goblin Warbss is fabulous! I love the pose, very action packed! Where did he steal that sword from? I looks very Tomb Kingy.

Your painting lives up to your modelling skill from what I have seen of it so far so get your butt painting and lets see some more stuff! (Oh and stay away from that 40K stuff, we have enough of that already :P)

Well to start off they were a very tentative commission, I guy I played regurlary really liked thme and asked me one day if I would consider selling them, I asked how much, he answered, I said "hells ya!"

The blade on the warboss is from the TK ushabti sprue, I cut it down in the middle to fit the warboss' shoulder span, glad you like it!

Stay away from 40K I guess that won't be much of a problem, they only model I have in my existing DW army is that Dread, but a DA battalion is coming my way soon:)

Double post, oh yes Im that bad, heres my finished Galadriel, only took me aobut 2 hours of inconsistent painting over the last five days, which is pretty sad, though as I look at these pics I might go with 1 or 2 more highlights on the face...

Got this guy done ahead of schedule! Really was quite fun to paint! the staff top came out a bit dark in the pic from the lighting but you can refer to the above pic of the WIP for a little better lighting, the angle of it was hard to light right <_< Also It still needs to be matte varnished so it may be still shiny in a few places.

Started work on Arkio, his arms are magnetized so incase I dont want a librarian for the kill team i can make him a capt. His staff still has a large bevelled edge that will be added the soften the approach from the staff top to the actual staff, for those intrested I am using the artwork from "Warrior Brood" by CS Goto as inspiration though I am also using a passage form "Warrior Coven" which describes Arkio as wearing robes.

You have nothing to worry about than, They will be black as befits the Deathwatch ;)

Ok, well I have mangaged to magnatize one each of the lascannon and heavy bolter arms so all I got left are one more each of the m'melta, hvy bolter, plasma cannon, and lascannon. I wont bore you with those pics though.

K I've start work on a normal deathwatch marine, chapter will be the Rampagers (http://uk.games-workshop.com/download/popup.htm?/spacemarines/chapter-gallery/images/71b.jpg)

Just a spear haft, I think from an Orc spear.

Well, got some more updates for all ya...
http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e143/GabrielAngelos/WIPS/DSC03903-1.jpg

Arkio's staff gs is looking a bit lumpy on the top, fixed that after I took the pic:evilgrin:

Also the marine in the middle is going to be one of the meat shields for the devastator squad so he'll have the same type of wpn as the DA but he'll be looking through the scope, gaming wise they'll be bolters with the M40 targeter upgrade

Heres my test model, just a BforM marine, the parts you should be looking at are the marine's left leg in particular, I did it pretty quick so the scratches and the highlights on them are pretty big and gaudy but they'll be nicer on the army . The blue parts are just me getting bored and messing around...

Well Marine 1 has been finished, I've decided to change his chapter from the Rampagers to Imperial Fists because of the face I've decided on, very IF to me.

Brother Mathias of the Imperial Fists, seconded to the Deathwatch looked into the horizon. Daemons began taking shape around him, as the mutilated bodies of his dying battle-brothers attracted them to the scent of battle. "Suffer not the alien to live.." he muttered as he prepeared his modified bolter given to him on arrival at Ordos Xenos monastary. "Let them come..."

Double Post, but I got more pics...

And the Space Wolf for my merry band has all the pieces except the left arm decided I think, The face was the hardest part it was between the one in the pic and the large hair head. But this one seems more "Im going rip your heart out and **** on it!" looking... :whistlingW:

Could I get suggestions on the left arms, I got the standard space wolf power fist and the new devastators chainsword which looks absolutely wicked in the pose I blue tacked earlier.

http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e143/GabrielAngelos/WIPS/DSC03931.jpg

The pose is a homage to Commander Y's BandC model of yesteryear, back in the day when I had an actual post count. Still very WIP as you can see.

How on earth did you get that gold on that elf.

Twilight out

On Galadriel I started with a base of vomit brown, shaded it with mixes of vomit, vermin and scourched, and highlighted with mixes of vomit, bone, and white.

Well you couldn't believe how surprised I was when BandC loaded up and we were green I just sorta stared at the computer until I saw the skin I was in. Very nice

Oh wait this is Warseer! Go check out the BandC and TheWAAGGHH while April Fools lasts! Great cooperation by admins.

Ok, I've done quite a bit of work on my marines, meaning I haven't really done that much mostly because all the rest of today I need to do all my spring break homework which I leave to the last day.

So on Saturday I got a call from my GW saying my bitz order came "woooo"

http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e143/GabrielAngelos/WIPS/DSC03935.jpg

Than I put two on Arkio and the IF and was pretty happy, notice Arkio's staff is less blobby looking an is really shaping up nice, once I get it smooth enough I'll add all the details.

http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e143/GabrielAngelos/WIPS/DSC03936.jpg

Than the Space Wolf is coming along though I am thinking about changing the pose I had in mind. I left him like this for a while:

http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e143/GabrielAngelos/WIPS/DSC03934.jpg

and than when I came back his leg had fallen down and was now like this:

http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e143/GabrielAngelos/WIPS/DSC03933.jpg

I think I may actual go with option 2 now, It has this really dynamic pose and will avoid any awkward look I may of had before with the legs (last entry). What do you guys think, maybe a few comments or suggestions?

Hey Angelo, still working hard I see ;)

I'm not sure about the staff. I kinda liked it simple and clean - the character himself doesn't need that, IMHO, maybe just a couple of scrolls and parchment, which given your skills shouldn't be hard at all. About the Space Wolf - I think that his left leg is a little too high - that's power-armour, after all - or maybe it's just that the legs are too far apart. On one hand, he looks like he's gonna lounge to his right, but his "upper parts" post rather suggest he's shooting or swinging in combat (using true grit, too) but the legs sort of spoil the effect.

Either way, it doesn't look bad, don't get me wrong - you should look at it yourself (since you have the sole privilege of seeing it in 3d ;) ) and say for yourself how it works. Either way and whatever the outcome I'm pretty sure it's not gonna disappoint :)

Thumbs up, and keep it running!

EDIT : oh, and the first head you showed for the SW actually looked better (I'm not fond of the second one, never was, and never will be!), because it reminded me of the Space Wolf 'dex's cover. And that instantly creates a background for a model. Especially because you chose the chainsword in almost the same pose :)

I personally like the pose, Looks pretty good IRL, It does stretch the limits of power armour flexibility, but may be the photos that follow will change your mind, Im probaly still gonna add a tidbit from the SW sprue to cover up the large left-leg joint and make it less awkward. But I appreciate your feedback, definently will take into consideration.

And dont worry about the lib's staff, Im not going to over work it, I also like it pretty simple Im probaly just going ot add a ring at the end of the gs ive already done and add a purity seal or two.

So, onto the piccies!

Space wolf is basically done(might a small bit or to), ill get a pic with the completed base once it's done, probaly tomorrow.

And heres the DA member of the squad, I have changed my mind about giving him the M40 bolter shown on the 1st page, Ill file off the DA symbols and put it on someone else.

Sorry, the Space Wolf looks like a Sumo-wrestler from behind :)

About your army list... I don't know. You can use your Rhino Marines as backup to the HQ, but I was thinking about dropping the Devastators and instead invest in 5-man teams with a special/heavy weapon (like, a melta-gun, or a heavy bolter) for flexibility, seeing as you'll be lacking Marines in the long run. And that's a lot of points sunk into the HQ. You've got a hell of a squad that's just begging to be a fire magnet :p

And why not two scouts squads, 5-men strong? Both with sniper rifles, but one could cover one corridor while the other advances to a better position.

http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e143/GabrielAngelos/WIPS/DSC03942.jpg

Im probaly going to be keeping the devastators because they've always done very well for me and i think heavy weapons are sort of a waste in squads that need to move around and are inhibited by heavy weapons. Just my opinion. And on the HQ The Kill team will never actually be taken in a serious list, Im just going to be playing in a tourney in about a month with a bunch of friends and i really wanted ot use those rules while maintaining a competitive army, still not sure what to do about them. I could take out the guy with the powersword and downgrade him to normal Deathwatch which saves me like 25pts. On the scouts, I actually have access to about 12 with snipers so maybe two units of 6? Ill try that out for a few games and see how it goes.

Thanks for the help, and heres a pic of my three finished Deathwatch marines.

Anyone gonna because at Chicago GamesDay this year? I will and I might bring these for golden demon if i got time to paint them.

Jon_Irenicus
04-04-2007, 21:59
Well, you might be right about the SW - that lump he puts his leg on sure makes a hell of a difference. But I think that you should've used the other arm that comes with the Assault Squad Sprue, you know, bent at the elbow. I just had a feeling ^^ And the Chainsword hand could have been cut and glued with the teeth pointing to the ground - it'd tell a whole different story than hack'n shoot (I hope you don't mind me taking liberties with your conversions, I'm in a sort of love/hate relationship with the Space Puppy!).

I actually prefer Tactical squads with heavy weapons. Easily re-located and you won't miss firing any of the other heavy weapons, though they'll end up costing more, it makes it up with the number of Marines. And the Devastators are easily targetable (Dark Reapers - I hate them!). But it's your call, your army, and you should stick to what you like and nothing else! ;)

I'd go there if Chicago wasn't an ocean away from dear Portugal... anyway, I want to see some painted minis and I 'm rooting for you if you end up entering the Golden Daemon!

I painted all the purple areas, basecoated the hair and the inner robes, and painted his little broach, Now on the NMM gold, its pretty simple as I wanted to have a simple effective recipe which would paint fast for the tabletop.

First basecoat all the armour with vomit brown, one or two layers should do the trick, than shade all the armour crevives and parts of the armour with vermin brown with vomit brown, add vermin as you go to deeper shadows , than start adding scourched brown til you get to 50/50 with vermin. Than for highlighting add bleached bone to vomit, you should work your way to the edges of the panels and to the chest eventually you will be using pure skull white.

And heres the pics...

I like the armour, the only thing I dislike is the purple :p
It's well done, but I don't think it works with the other colours.

Sorry about always picking a fight with your miniatures :p

The thing I liked the most was the simplest one - the chainmail. Really effective and really easy, I'll wager.

Meh, I like the contrast the purple gives to the armour, don't worry cirt is always accepted, it will help make me a better painter I hope.

Did a little more work on Glorfindel, the green sash, washed the armour pieces I hadnt done yet, did the sword etc.., should be done in the next few days if I keep working on him.

And the devastator sarg, is looking good, pack is just blu-tacked on to show you the look :), and i also magnetized the last dev. with hvy wpn, and a multi melta, so just one more lascannon, hvy bolter, plsma cannon, and mL left.

Lovely OTT conversion! You should be very proud! Im especially a fan of the goblins!

For me the poses on the marines are a little too dynamic but thats all just swings and roundabouts! Theres nothing technically wrong with them.

And anybody who can make me look twice at the dull LotR range has done a good job painting! Well done!

Hello everyone, I've done a bit more wokr on the scouts got some of the models cleaned up and on their bases, still a lot to go but better something than nothing.

http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e143/GabrielAngelos/WIPS/DSC039622.jpg

And I think I finally got a final concept on how I want my Mantis Warrior for the Kill team to look, I lke the idea form the book on the assault sarg jumping off into the tyrnaid swarm in the final moomets before Herdoians loss. Hes very very WIP, but you'll see more work on him in the next few days He has the old pre-heresy bolter to symbolize his part in the Praying Manidae, the group of the Mantis Warriors that unknowingly stoood side-by-side with the Astral Claws during the scism, and their penitial crusade against the claws. I'm going to be sculpting hair on the head so don't worry about the way it looks very SW atm.

Hello fellow inmates of the world wide web

Well I wasn't able to get a game against the Slanneshi army but I did play a rather nasty nurgle army, The game ended in a draw with turn 6 leaving his defiler to my librarian and 4 out of seven man devastator squad still standing. The game was mass canage, turn one is blew up his landraider, killing one termi, thna killed about 8-10 plague marines with massed fire. His turn one destroyed a dread, and my scouts. Turn two had the assault marines killing an entire squad of plague marines with the assault chaplin only for him to reveal the plaque banner and rolled 6s wipping out the entire squad  . Than a few turns later my librarian forced staffed his demon prince in the face (thank you familiar intiative 6), and his dread and sorceror going crazy and wiping out both tac squads. Wonderful game, very enjoyable.

So I have also done a but more work on my marines, Ive decided to not sell my robed bodies form the DA battleforce but make and command squad which will mostly be used as a vet squad, got a apoth in there incase i want some furious charge on my librarian or such.

http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e143/GabrielAngelos/WIPS/DSC03988.jpg

Than I was able to get the back pack bit form the termi librarian off one of my friends and I think it looks quite sporting on my chappies bike...

Than the Mantis Warrior is all built on his base, you may have noticed I changed heads, i sculpted hair on the SW one, but on the model it just wasn't to my taste and after trowing heads on looking for something i liked, the champion head looked pretty nice so on it went.

And the judging for the 40K comp was yesterday and im proud to say I placed in all three categories. Single was pretty competitive witha really sweet necron coming out of the ground, with some reaally ace light sourcing and an ultramrines libbie which had some really nice painting on it. But Im satisfied with what i got.

Long time, no update!
.

Well Ive been gaming a little bit , to say I was successful is a mistake, I played some guys necrons at Fox Valley (the Adepticon guy with the flashing monolith) and he crushed me, on my final turn 6 I only had a dev with plasma cannon left :P Im that good. Than I played some nurgle chaos. I was able to destroy the defiler, 8man squad of possesssed with flight, and wound Typhus and various Plague marine squads, but than he blew up my dread, killing two tac marines, annilatted my librarian with a combined plague sword, daemon prince action, but it was a pretty close game in the end, the daemon prince jsut couldnt fail a invul. But all the games were great fun.

So heres my pope atm. I decided to turn the lib. standard top around as the back pack on the chaplin covers it up.

Yea Double post, but I wasnt able to access Warseer a few days ago when I wanted to put the above on.

So heres my most recent progress...

Hello guys, Definently is hot here in Chicago, but with heat comes good things, namely the Foundation Paints I love 'em, cant wait to start my chaplin after I get the armour nailed down by painting a few of those BforM marines.

So I just added the rosarius to the chaplin, think it came out pretty nice, just a little gs and a command squad medal.

Well with the foundation paints now firmly in my hands i tested thme out on a few surfaces (non p.a., sorry) and must say I am quite impressed, it is much easier to keep your surfaces smoother which is something that I was challenged with the old method of basecoating. So I started basecoating my chaplin, he's not to the quality of my GD squad but he'll be a nice prep. up to getting the colors right etc.

how did you do the metal on the left shoulder pad.

Ixidor10024
22-05-2007, 22:35
Just a suggestion on your libby.

You might want to try to carefully seperate the fingers from each other with some careful cutting, and then bend them down a bit so that the pinky finger is the most bent and each finger up to the ring finger is a little less bent. I don't have any pics of it but it does help to make it look less flat and more like he is using a power.

Take what you want out of what I said and hopefully it could help. Also sorry if it is not the clearest thing to understand. Im not too good at explaining things but if you have any questions just ask

Ah back from Saturday and boy was it crazy, I managed to get a ton of good deals as well as win three contests  Pardon me but Im gonna do a bit if braggin starting now, so first i won the LoTR painting comp with Glorfindel in single and Galadriel and some random WEs in squad, my single took overall as well, than I found out I won the quiz that was on a friday a few weeks ago which got me a box of spider riders which i traded away for a few few things and a BT chapter upgrade which has some really nice Deathwatch stuff, than as the only entry in 30 models in 30 days I got a figure case. I thna traded away a bunch of old painted stuff I had and got a lot of new things. Than I bought that WD 30 model just so it can go on ebay in a while and earn me some good dough. Heres a pic just for gloats

I chipped up the bolter casings a little bit and did the leg armour, im currently working on the whole back display right now, updates hopefully by the weekend.

And what do you guys think about this backpack for him? Its from a legion of the damned marine, i think itll fit in pretty good, with all the bones and skulls it has on it. Comments?

And ive nearly finished building my termies, need to build another base and finish of the last one, i recently finshed the templar in the middle quite happy with him, i gave him a chaos warrior helmet and that reposed his finger to make him pointing. Im still gonna add a few bitz here and there such as seals once i finish building them all.

Hey Gabriel, I don't think I've congratulated you on your awards (later is better than never ;) ), you deserve them. Good to see your Chaplain progressing well, too - but your "backpack" question just made a light pop in my brain - I was thinking that white is a good offset to black when I realised your Chaplain was the colour of the bike :p (though I think the backpack will look nice, it's a little blurred and old school 2nd edition, but seems nice enough).

I'm liking how those termies are shaping up, I just don't like the head on the front one, though it fits the Black Templars nicely. Really like the three "finished" bases.

Another question (I'm fairly sure you already know what it's about, but in case you don't...), how'd'ya paint those nice robes? :)

Keep it going, you should post more often = you should work harder and faster ;) Cheers!

Yea, Im sorta lazy when it comes to painting, Ill paint a small area than as its drying ill go away and say im gonna come back and work on something else but i never do :)

On the robes:

1. Base with Denheb Stone
2. Add Bleached Bone
3. Add Skull White
4. Shade with graveyard earth :)

Glad you like them, Ill try to get a good painting post in in a few days :)

Loving the Chaplain and thanks for the tutorial on the cream robe, I think I will do something similar for my champions cloak to differentiate him from the rest of my Chaos Warriors. Also a good use of those Chaos Helmets on the Terminators, add some Tomb Kings bits and you got some fine Pre Heresy Thousand Sons going on! Keep it up.

The skin is pretty light, but the pics are sort of washing out the contrast, ill try to get updated pics in the next few days. :)

Thanks for the comment :D

Updates!

I darkened the armour with a mix of tin and black , I think it looks better but maybe one more wash should do it maybe. This model is just about done I just need to do the orc icons on the armour and the axe, suggestions on the colors ,, i was thinking a darker red color would contrast nicely.

Hey Gabe! Just waltzing around your thread as usual ;)

I don't quite like the armour for the BO except the checked shoulder guard on his left arm (the rest just looks too golden for my taste), but the colours are quite neat (so it's just a difference in colour taste :)), though I'd also expect a darker skin tone on the orc... speaking of which, have you trying using some blue wash (scarsely applied...) as shade? I've seen it do wonders with ork skin. Other than that, the usual thumbs up for your excellent work on the miniatures, both painting and posing!

I think I am going to do another wash onto the armour, as it does still look to bright right now.

I might try a blue wash, actually i will, ill get some pics up tomorrow, and see how it fares.

As always, thanks for the helpful candc mate :)

Great thread :D, love the black orc, the detail on the checkers is awesome, care to share how you achieved the effect (I'm really wanting to know how you got the awesome weathered look)?

Also, have you considered submitting a little something to this thread (http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=29528&page=12) if you haven't already. I think your contribution would be highly appreciated :).

Well, Gabe, I'd say it's about time to make yourself a couple of tutorials and posting them somewhere on Warseer ;)

P.S. Glad to see an Avatar change, Tzeentchgiant. The other one freaked me out :p

This one's probably only an interim thing, until I can find something that truly reflects me :p.

very interesting color on the bronze armor, you dont see a lot of bronze on models. i love the checkers you've implemented into the model, it breaks up the large areas of metal

Glad you guys are liking everything, I might add a little something something to the thread you linked me tzeen, once i get a little time.

Well I think the BO is just about finished, I decided to actually go with a brighter red but I think it complements the model well as a whole, I than did a small wash of blue on the skin and gave an additional highlight on the edges of the face. I got the base done, might add a little grass or beef the snow up a bit, thoughts?

http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e143/GabrielAngelos/WIPS/DSC04180.jpg
http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e143/GabrielAngelos/WIPS/DSC04181.jpg

And on the checkered areas:
1. Basewith boltgun
2. Wash into it with vermin you want the outermost areas to remain silver and the inner areas to have a strong vermin color
3. Draw the checkerboard pattern
4. Use watered down scoruched brown to tint all the black squares, do this more and more until you have a grad. from the inner most which should be very dark to the outermost which should be very light. Add a little black for the final shade.
5. Than add some vermin to boltgun and weather the edges , than do this with boltgun alone than add chainmail.

Hope this helps, Enjoy!

Slightly OT, but the worst one so far has to be Cutting Edge Model's avatar. Your's was just strange in comparison. Yankeeboy's was disturbing, too.

But so that you can understand me, picture Pacman when he ate the bad*** white balls. I'm the cornered ghost :p

This may well get a thread by itself. Sorry for the hijack Gabe!

Very nice Orc, I love the shading an detailing. The skin does seem a bit flat in comparisson though (could be the photograph off-course).

Maybe a more intense red? I think it kinda gets lost because of the "brown" axe. And you could add some heavier shading on the skin. I don't know if it's the pic, but it looks a bit flat... Up-close he's very good, but would he get your attention at an arm's length? If so, is it because of his pose, or the colours? Does something look odd from a distance?

I try to guide myself by these principles. Now, don't take this as paternizing, it's just casual talk :)

The red looks sorta grainy on the axe might just be the angle of the shot, Im thinking i might add another shade with the blue on the skin. And maybe another highlight, we'll see.

Another update on my chaplain, ill be working on my GD entries as well as finishing my WE army for the GT, which I got a ticket for after winning best appearance at the Chicago LotR club on the 23rd. My army didnt do that well overall, as I decided to go fully painted meaning my army was ridiculously hero heavy and went 1-2 but I still pulled off 4th with my painting points.

So heres the chaplain

Ive done a bit more work on my chaplain, i finished off the crox, just need a little bit of lining to smooth out a few parts, I also started the freehand on his robes, might just leave it at a line as I will be dirtying them up a bit, also finished off the three skulls on the bike, should be able to get a good amount of work in tonight though.
