View Full Version : (Nightmare Before Christmas)-Themed Vampire Army

13-03-2007, 02:08
So I am going to make a Nightmare before Christmas themed Vampire army for my girlfriend. It will have all of the characters in the movie. I will decide on some being mages of characters (Jack Skeleton obviously being the vampire count).
So even before deciding on the list I have started to sculpt some of the characters that I know will be part of zombie/skeleton/whatever units.

First off I sculpted the guy with an axe in his head. I figured he taked the axe out when he uses it so he is holding it right now

He looks a little different from the movie but its my spin on the character. The wound and stitches will be painted on in case you're wondering.

So now i'm not sure who to sculpt next.

edit: can anyone help me with posting images from photobucket? I thought i knew how but i guess not...thanks!

Pretty cool, You better make the werewolf in the flannel shirt though, cause he was to cool for school.

13-03-2007, 06:17
you missed the / off the [/img] on the end...

13-03-2007, 12:55
Ahh, thank you ExquisiteEvil.
The Wolf guy will definitely have a flannel shirt.
I'm thinking of starting the monster with the teeth all around his head. He reminds me of the movie beatlejuice.

beefpizza? Why does your greenstuff-fu ring a bell...

Hmm too lazy to search the boards, but any road I'm looking forward to this army immensely.

... FUNKYNESS! I must see the progress of such madness!

14-03-2007, 17:35
Simply awesome, I can't wait to see the finished army!

14-03-2007, 20:05
Looks good. My only criticism would be that I'd see about trying to smooth out some of the rough spots next time. Are you going to cover the white putty on his belly with green stuff? That's where it seems to be worst. But other than that finish work, you've really captured the look of the character.

vampires are cool!
15-03-2007, 13:29
Jack Skeloton next man! Please!

16-03-2007, 13:36
Thank you all for the nice comments.

@ZeroTwentythree: I agree there are a bunch of rough spots that I could fix, but I guess I'm leaving them because even in the movies it is very rough and also because I am going to do so many of them, that if I made them all Hero-quality this project would not go very fast...

@vampires are cool!: I might do him soon, but I still want to improve my GS skills before I attempt him.

Ok! So I worked a lot on the Wolf Guy. I made a beginning armature, but I didn't like it so I had the tweak it so I liked it:

Then I bulked up the body and legs and such and put it under a hot lamp so it cures in about 45 min.

Next I am working on the tears in the shirt and fur.

This is looking like a pretty sweet blog. Love the movie, and can't wait to see you work through the characters :)

The wolf's shaping up nicely. Are you going to use any stock models, or scratch build everything?

16-03-2007, 14:43
I'm not sure if I'm going to use stock models or not. I know I want to use skeletons to hang from the moving tree, but other than that I'm undecided.
I try not to think about it and just go with the flow and sculpt what I want.
Thank you for the positive remarks!

Awesome, I already like where the wolf man in flannel is going. He'll be a great dire wolf.

One question? What bloodline will Jack be?

17-03-2007, 16:05
GAAAHHH!!!! The above should read:

One question, What bloodline will Jack be?

Stupid question mark being where the comma should go.

17-03-2007, 17:38
I was thinking of the Von Carstein Bloodline, I think it suits his personalilty best.

Update! my flight got canceled, so I am stuck at school with nothing to do! So what do I do? I sculpt!

I did a bunch of work on the torn shirt and hair and some little things here and there:

I really like how he is progressing, I think he may be my best sculpt work ever!

Edit: The pictures bring out every flaw that I cannot even see in life, But those that I could see I wnet back and smoothed them over.

Great stuff, the film was down right freaky but your doing it justice with these sculpts and its always nice to see some WIPS (something I'm not very good with as I tend to get carried away  ) Keep it up I'll have an eye on this thread.

18-03-2007, 18:29
consider me wrong now... I didnt expect this to be as great as it obviously is.
keep it up

Count me as subscribed! That movie is awsome, can imagine to field an army of it to be nearly as cool!

Maybe use jack skellington and sally as that von carstein couple? Just a thought.

Otherwise, keep it coming!

18-03-2007, 21:29
Wow those look really awesome, wish I could gs as good as you:eyebrows:

Cant wait to see more progress on the wolf guy :)

Your NightmareBeforeChristmas-figures look really cool, beefpizza. I cannot help humming Danny Elfman's theme when I see them, "This is Halloween, this is Halloween..."

19-03-2007, 01:08
Please tell me you'll do the mayor in his car as a black coach. I look forward to seeing the rest of the army progress.

19-03-2007, 14:11
Nightmare before christmas rules...

I'll keep my eye on this :)

20-03-2007, 08:03
Haha, thank you all very much. I am glad to see fans of the movie come out and support.

@Khrangar: I was thinking of that. The mayor and car as black coach, and the tree with the skeletons hanging down as a giant.

I am on spring break right now but when I get back I will post progress!

22-03-2007, 06:58
Holy hell man that is fricken AWSOME!!!! I can not wait to see em painted and ready for battle I will definately be watching this blog.

God I had this idea a few months ago, but I couldnt think how I would fit all the characters in without just making them all rank and files...
How do you plan on doing it?

Good idea on this project. Good to see another Burton Fan.

Great idea and execution!

Beefpizza your sculpting is the best i have ever seen. I though that The Nightmare Before Christmas was a brilliant film, and you certainly are doing it justice.

Hey, thanks for all of the great replies! And I haven't even posted an update!
I will reward you all by posting some pictures tonight of the werewolf.

@ bert n ernie: I'm gonna try and include all the characters I can. I'm thinking of having one zombie unit be crazy Christmas toys maybe with a tied up Santa Claus in the middle or something. As for the ghost dog, its gonna be on Jack's scenic twirly base.

@ Dasqueek-Master Assassin: Well the hard part is that I gotta decide on the army list first or at least what units I want. So far I have this:

Jack: Von Carstein Vampire Count
Sally: Necromancer
Doctor Finklesteinr: Another Necromancer?
Oogie Boogie: Thrall on Horse? (explained later)

Zombies: Crazy Christmas toys with tied up Santa Claus in the middle and maybe Lock, Stock, and Barrel in their tub guiding the demented toys.
Skeletons: Town folk who can't get their own units
Fell Bats: Witches on brooms
Spirit Host: 3 band members?
Wolves: Werewolf leading wolves
Black Knights: Oogie Boogie's Casino machines?

Giant: Tree with skeletons hanging
Black Coach: Mayor with car

Does anyone have more ideas for units or characters? I need a lot of help with this as I feel like I'm forgetting some things.

Thanks again for all the awesome comments, you guys keep me motivated!

Ive got some other characters for you
-clown with the tear away face
-harliquin deamon
-creature under the bed
- undersea girl
-corpse mom/kid/dad
-mr Hyde
-mummy kid
I dont really know what you can do with these but ill definatly be thinking for you.
Grave guard maybe?
Maybe the army would be better represented using other rules. maybe Ogre kingdoms.

tyrant-jack (maybe sally could be a luck gnoblar)
bruiser/hunter-oogie boogie
butcher-dr. finklestiner

bulls- random asortment of the smaller and less intimidating secondary characters
ironguts- the bigger and scarier characters
gnoblars-toys, gingerbread men, pumpkins...
trappers- lock shock and barrel plus a number of vicious moving traps with a tied up santa to finish it off

lead belchers- the band
yhettes- the more bestial looking characters (i.e.werewolf, monster under the bed...)
scrap launcher- mayor in his car

giant- tree with skeletons
maneaters- your favorite characters

I kind of like this more than the vampires...

19-04-2007, 01:40
I dunno, It just seemed so right to use vampire counts to represent this army. It might be too weird for people to see it based off Ogre Kindoms, pluss O.K. are a hard army to play competetively, and no one in my gaming group plays a carstein list...
But I thank you for thinking about this army! It still needs work.
I think all those characters you mentioned like the mummy and underwater girl will be skeletons.
Thank you!

well Im glad i could help. All i can say is stay true to Mr. burton's masterpiece of cinematography...

19-04-2007, 18:18
Don't forget the tree with all the skeletons hanging from it! That could be..... I dunno a chariot. Tim burton didn't really create them for battle.
