well ive decided to collect a deathguard army
unfortunately im a bad painter and not the best modeller so i hope i'll get better as time goes on
so here are some pictures of my first aspiring champion, a random marine, some termies,my plague banner, and a cool COD building

note all stuff is wip and the purity seals on the termies are going to be turned into defiled purity seals

hope you like it

Snizzly, the first 2 pics are kinda blurry though.
The banner looks ace, but is the defiler in your avatar part of the force?

the_dark_sarge
21-03-2007, 10:11
nah unfortunately not
i would be cool if it was but its someone elses
hopefully soon ill be able to have a display pic of some of my stuff

hiveminion
21-03-2007, 15:15
Great Green Stuffing! It all looks suitably revolting, everything covered in intestines and all, fantastic! One tiny tip: Macro.;)

I'd love to see some more stuff of yours, I'll be watching!

the_dark_sarge
22-03-2007, 09:21

thanks
whats macro mean

Well I don't know if you use a digital camera for your pics, but if you use the macro function (it usually shows a small flower on the screen when it's selected), the camera will automatically focus on the nearest object (the model), so that it won't focus on the background like in some of your pics.

Hope that helps:)

Nice work on the Termies!

OrlyggJafnakol
22-03-2007, 19:20
Here is a death guard miniature I did last summer. I used a pin vice to drill lots of holes in the power armour, I tried to create pock marks, and I found it a very simple but effective technique to make a model look suitably decayed.

20088

I also used guitar string to add additional pipes. Green stuff filled in all the gaps.

Hope this helps with your models.

Much better images.

You have made good use of the chaos mutation sprue heads. I think your GS needs some super detailing though, use a cocktail stick as a fine point and add some tiny details, things are looking at little smooth at the moment.

Otherwise, keep up the good work!

the_dark_sarge
23-03-2007, 10:36
thanks everyone
heres some more images
im not sure about the guy with the wierd head thing
he looks a bit to tzeentch
what do you think
also what do you think about the bases
also theres a IG strategem ive been making
so what do you think

kieran

OrlyggJafnakol
23-03-2007, 10:45
I think your wierd head thing would look far more appropriate if it had a single growth, similar to the plaguebearer's horn. Very nurglesque.

As for the bases, with my plague guard I went for a WWI trench look. Bits of broken equipment, barbed wire and loads of layers of sand. I base coated with sorched earth and highlighted up with cammo green before adding wash after wash of chestnut and brown inks. Then I painted the barbed wire orange and washed over that with further washes of chestnut ink. Once it was totally dty, I drybrushed bolt gum metal here and there.

hiveminion
23-03-2007, 14:53
Ahh..the puckered puss shows much clearer now...revolting!:)

Great work, but I agree the headpiece is a bit over the top, perhaps one would look good as OrlyggJafnakol said. Assymatry=Nurgle! And that Imperial Guard stratagem looks fantastic, amazing piece.

The bases look good, will you add some of the same GS goo on it? If you spice them up with some random Nurglings too here and there they'd look really Nurglitch.

Norsehawk
23-03-2007, 15:23
One thing I noticed with your older test deathguard, the holes in the armor look good, but there should be all kinds of nasty stuff leaking out of those holes as well.

OrlyggJafnakol
23-03-2007, 15:35
Yeah Norsehawk, lots of seepage. Worms, tenticles, eyes and teeth. All easy to do with a sculpting tool and a little GS. All this talk of Nurgle makes me want to get my deathguard going once more!

the_dark_sarge
23-03-2007, 21:55
thanks for the advice
for the bases:
the bases are lava bases but i was thinking of having slime instead of lava
what do you think
hopefully more pics tonight

well more pics
ive been working on the guy with the wierd horns
complete overhaul
what do you think

kieran

OrlyggJafnakol
24-03-2007, 12:56
I like it, I like it... CSM holding his head in his hands. A fantastic idea. Your army is going to look brilliant when its finished. Just one suggestion though, I'd like to see some sort of pipe or membrane running from the body to the head, perhaps an ossified spine dripping with filth!

Keep up the good work

24-03-2007, 14:06
I'm liking your nurgle servants so far ;) Great GS work, when do we get to see some paintjobs?

the_dark_sarge
24-03-2007, 23:50
thanks for the ideas
@OrlyggJafnakol: good idea ill try it later and hopefully have pics up by tonight

now painted models:
hopefully ill have some painted models by next weekend
im really busy at the moment and like converting rather than painting so they may take a while to be painted

hopefully more pics tonight

but hopefully more tommorow

kieran

Warwolt the skaven
25-03-2007, 11:20
looks good, but man. you REALLY gotta learn to smooth out GS.

the_dark_sarge
25-03-2007, 11:22
what do you mean by that
its supposed to be all crazy

the_dark_sarge
26-03-2007, 07:20
does anyone know what Warwolt the skaven meant becuase i want to know what he meant before i do any more

kieran

p.s if i get an answer there will be updates tonight

the_dark_sarge
26-03-2007, 08:58
updates

kieran

hiveminion
26-03-2007, 15:07
I THINK he meant smoothing in the sense of "integrating" it into the armour a bit, because now it looks more like it is...I dunno...stuck on it. I don't really mind, though, it looks fine.:)

the_dark_sarge
27-03-2007, 09:36
cool thanks
i finally got photobucket so pics from now on will be in the post itself YAY
well hopefully updates tonight

Resin bases look different, not a flat surface in site! You pinning all the models onto them?

the_dark_sarge
28-03-2007, 10:59
for some of the models i will pin them but for others ill probably just super glue them

do you think i should pin all the models

kieran

jasevx
28-03-2007, 11:04
Just thinking of the structure. Plastic models should be ok to glue on tho, but if theres any metal involved I'd pinn them

the_dark_sarge
28-03-2007, 11:12
ok thanks for that advice
i know this isnt really on topic but i couldnt help myself
how cool is the head of the IG guy in the attachment

kieran

28-03-2007, 11:17

Looks a bit like a Space Wolf with the beard.;)

Looking forward to the updates.

OrlyggJafnakol
28-03-2007, 15:47
You have mentioned that you are going to pin your models, and I assume you have a pin vice. You could use the pin vice to drill holes of different size into the plastic of your miniatures to create nurglesque craters and bullet wounds. Its really easy to do... I aslo recommend using a craft knife to cut into the edges of the marine's armour, this should help make the armour look old and decayed.

Like the bases... Where did you get them from?

the_dark_sarge
29-03-2007, 10:43
hmm nurgley craters you say
i like it
i got the bases from back to base-ix ebay store (http://stores.ebay.com.au/Back-2-Base-ix)
also i was browsing the web and found this site http://microartstudio.com/shop/catalog/
the bases are quite nice so i was thinking of getting some
as any one brought them before? what was your opinion of them

kieran

OrlyggJafnakol
29-03-2007, 11:02
I really enjoy sculpting and converting bases for my models, it is where I developed most of my skills with GS, so I personally wouldn't buy them. I would recommend these bases to those warseers you don't have the time/inclination/ability to make them themselves.

the_dark_sarge
30-03-2007, 09:42
well hello
unfortunately no updates (damm school)
BUT i promise i will have painted pics up by sunday night

kieran

the_dark_sarge
01-04-2007, 06:41
Painted models.
Also, today I got a rhino in a trade, I was planning on stripping it but the paint job was so TOTALLY UBER!!!!!. So I decided to leave it as is.
Also thanks to my friends for helping me paint the model (i suck at painting)

kieran

Sling
01-04-2007, 08:08
Well, the paintjob could be a bit more nurgly. You know some dirty brown-green like a catachan-style green. Or some weathering.

hiveminion
01-04-2007, 10:42
I like the pus-coloured Green Stuff thingies a lot. Perhaps the armour could be a bit more light so the pus would stand out some more...perhaps mix some grey with the green?

Keep it up, nice Rhino!:)

the_dark_sarge
02-04-2007, 07:32
Thanks
Ill try making the armour lighter on my next models
Later tonight ill post up the other nurgley stuff i got in the trade
kieran

the_dark_sarge
04-04-2007, 10:02
Heres the rest of the things i got in the trade
Im not sure what to do with them
Hhether i should strip them or just rebase them
With the unpainted squad i think ill have them as the newbies to nurgle squad (as they dont have much GS work)

kieran

hiveminion
04-04-2007, 12:40
You could paint a squad of your marines and see if they look good next to the stuff you got in the trade. If not, strip 'em and paint them yourself so that they match the rest of your army.

the_dark_sarge
05-04-2007, 23:38
yes ill do that
updates tonight (if i can get off the computer)

kieran

the_dark_sarge
07-04-2007, 03:08
well the updates arent good enough to show but to make up for it ill show you some off my dark angels i just built

hi kman hows it going
havent seen you for a little while
well ive been a little unwell (eating to much chocolate)

kieran

hiveminion
07-04-2007, 11:59
Hmpf...Imperials...

At least they're green, even when not covered in pus:p

Cool poses, Dark_Sarge! I always thought two close combat weapons were the best way to go for menacing Marines, good work!

the_dark_sarge
08-04-2007, 00:28
thanks hiveminion im planning to have them in my uber close combat comand squad
well then the 'easter bunny' had advanced ordered me the foundation paint set so it should help my painting a bit
well happy easter every one
i hope to have updates done by tonight if i can stop stuffing myself with chocolate

UPDATES!!!!!

well there a landraider and rhino i got in a trade with dave is the best
he he has done some of the GS work and ive done a little bit
also theres 2 marines

so what do you think?

kieran

hiveminion
03-05-2007, 10:41
I like the strangled marine on top of the Rhino, the tentacles which I'm guessing Dave has done (since you didn't do tentacles just yet) fit very nicely with your own Nurglitch conversion work.

Good job!:)

the_dark_sarge
04-05-2007, 07:16
well i did the tentacle coming out the front but dave did the rest
ill do some more work on the rhino tonight

kieran

OrlyggJafnakol
04-05-2007, 07:53
Those tenticles are very impressive. My first thought was, gross, my skin even crawled a bit! When you paint up that armour its going to look really impressive.

the_dark_sarge
04-05-2007, 08:03
thanks
most of the credit needs to go to dave cos he did most of it
well ill show you some more stuff soon
also for the daemon prince im going to use the nightbringer model and use the sythe thingy as a manreaper
what do you reckon?
kieran

the_dark_sarge
04-05-2007, 09:49

04-05-2007, 10:58

I'm just a Land Rover and Gun type guy! ;)

the_dark_sarge
05-05-2007, 00:27
lol
well what does everyone else think of the rhino
maybe updates today

kieran

black-francis
05-05-2007, 00:46
the top of the rhino is pretty good. the cuts and gouges in the plastic are a nice touch. personally i dont connect tentacles with Death Gaurd. i think patches of flesh and boils would look better.

the_dark_sarge
05-05-2007, 07:54
you dont like tentacles?
everyone loves crazy tentacles
personally i think they are nurglely but each to his/her own i suppose
kieran

jasevx
05-05-2007, 09:15
I think they'll come round when the scupturing is more advanced, Nurgle looks vey slappedon until the works put in, think its a great start tho DS

05-05-2007, 10:45

tentacles scream slaanesh to me. thats my reasoning.

actually thats a good point
well it wont look slannesh once its painted *evil cackling)

the_dark_sarge
06-05-2007, 09:21
thanks destris
although lots of cred needs to go to dave
he did a lot of work

well then
i havent done any more nurgle but i did some more work on my guard stratagems

btw the ammo dump is extremely WIP its only been given a very quick job and the fallen over wall the lasgun are restign on aint even painted

kieran

jasevx
06-05-2007, 09:24
What kits are they from DS?

They'd make very good diorama bases as well.

the_dark_sarge
06-05-2007, 09:31
hmm well they use lots of CoD bits, the commander is a tank commander made from the IG tank kit and the weapons are mainly catachan stuff and the little aerial thing is from the IG tanks acessory spure
i think thats all

kieran

the_dark_sarge
12-05-2007, 02:50
well then
im doing a article for overwatch on modelling nurgleness and ashc has asked me to not put the models on the log but ill give you a sneak preview
guess what its going to be?
also theres a strategem im working on

kieran

hiveminion
12-05-2007, 10:36

You're going to nurglify a C'tan? Sounds cool...and it's for an e-zine too. Do your best! I love how that stratagem is looking too, nice use of the dozer blade.:)

the_dark_sarge

i kinda borrowed the idea for the stradegem from CoD book

the_dark_sarge
25-05-2007, 11:05
im sorry ive been busy (at least thats what my excuse is)
