View Full Version : Hordes and Hordes of Chaos

26-03-2007, 12:34
Ok so I have the project log bug atm :D.
With the start of my 40k chaos log going well (see my sig to view it) I thought I would also start up a fantasy log too.
I have been collecting chaos for many many years now but recently haven't painted a single fantasy miniature.
So hopefully with peoples comments and help I can get some done...

How I want to do this is people nominate a unit for me then when we get 2 nominations I will post close up pics. The first unti to get 3 votes gets painted.

anyway on with the pics.

My Hordes of chaos army (almost all some is in boxes still)

What is the biggest unit?
Start there first.

Or else one that takes you not too much time, so you can see progress as soon as possible.

This would take me at least 3 years to paint...
At current speed even 4 to 5 I think.

26-03-2007, 12:36
Ok then shelf close ups

Bottom shelf is Slaanesh

Next is Tzeentch

Then Nurgle

26-03-2007, 12:39
Continued shelves....

Undivided 1

Undivided 2

Some random lurkers on the top of the unit

and the last fantasy miniature I painted about 2 years ago (told you it was a while)

get nominating......

26-03-2007, 12:47
The bloodletters or if you have any marauder horseman.

26-03-2007, 13:00
The random lurkers definately. I had that Talisman wizard for years, I used to call him hamlet. I'd like to see that strange winged beast that has been propped up by the shell. Never seen that miniature before... Is it citadel?

Suicide Messiah
26-03-2007, 13:14
Wow. Thats a lot a mins.

Those chaos centaurs.

The Dark One
26-03-2007, 13:45

i vote for Horrors

Warlord Ghazak Gazhkull
26-03-2007, 13:56
Paint the nurglings first, those minis are awesome. A lot of minis there, it can compete with my greenskins:p

26-03-2007, 14:23
Ok so far nominations are
Random lurkers

anyone else want to nominate any of these...

Oh yea and the large mini on the Random lurkers is a 1980's Citadel Giant Balrog

26-03-2007, 15:03
The marauders you already started, at the right of "undivided 2"
At least it won't take too long. And it's not too big and not exactly centerpiece, so I guess it'd be a good start to re-practice your skills.

26-03-2007, 15:49
Holy Cr@p! That's a lot of Chaos! And I thought
had a lot.

I totally feel you on not having the motivation to paint. For the longest time I've fielded nothing but silver or primed black models without a lick of paint on them. But lately I've been playing 'Hammer with a lot of people who have fully or mostly painted armies and it's been a huge kick in the motivation for me.

So if nothing else, think how much better you would feel about your army if it was painted and focus that feeling into motivation to paint. Good luck man!

26-03-2007, 16:18
Holy hell... Good luck... I will be watching this tho ^^

26-03-2007, 16:34
I'll second the centaurs. This thread looks like it might be here for some time ;)
Aflo (Adam)

26-03-2007, 19:36
I'll third the centaurs, not sure if I've ever seen citadel centaurs close up

26-03-2007, 20:56
So thats the Centaurs up first close up pics of them soon. One question tho are we talking about the slaanesh centaurs with bows or the khorne ones with hand weapons and shields.
Anyone else want to nominate another unit so we can see it close up to choose or shalll I start with the nominated guys??

26-03-2007, 21:05
What's the big blue horned guy at the back of Undivided 2? I'd like to see him for close-ups, mostly cause I dunno what s/he is!

are we talking about the slaanesh centaurs with bows or the khorne ones with hand weapons and shields.

Both! :D

(Ignore this bit its just coz my post is too short.)

26-03-2007, 22:06
Boss_Salvage the blue guy is Saator Gigantic Demon Lord as seen here
I beleive he was released in the early 80's some time ;)

27-03-2007, 15:09
Personally I'd start on the undivided stuff first. Then you can paint elements from each of the other four gods and have them fit into your force with no problem.

If you started on Slaanesh for example, you'd probably not find a reason to paint the other god-specific models anytime soon.

That is if, like me, you find "I'd really like to use a unit of those" good inspiration to get things painted.

27-03-2007, 15:30
Ahhh so, thanks for the link. After seeing the closer image and reading his fluffy bitz, I say do other Undivided things first ;) Hywel's plan is a good one, you ask me - get Undivided core done, then add in a unit or two from each god, repeat ftw.

27-03-2007, 17:41
Ok so I like the idea of an Undivided unit the a different one from one of the gods.
So unit 1 to be painted will be

I'm gonna redo the flesh as I didn't like it and now am a big fan of Dark Flesh basecoats :D

updates soon

and start deciding amongst you what unti of the chaos powers gets the paint brush next

27-03-2007, 18:27
Bloodletters. Love the models.

27-03-2007, 18:29
I vote OOP bloodletters or the Khorne centaurs.

28-03-2007, 09:08
Oh, i forgot to say this tho.

28-03-2007, 12:56
Err thanks Cpt... lol

Ok so here is the WiP Maruader squad that I'm doing atm. So far I have done the metal parts and base coated the flesh in dark flesh. The silver metal took a while as there are 5 different coats on it. I am not gonna rush any of these to get them done.

More updates soonish when I have more to show.
So far its looking like the bloodletters will be done next. Anyone else want something else done or we goin Khorne

28-03-2007, 13:03
Cool so far, oh, yeah, i can do that. Cause i'm cool like that:D

29-03-2007, 02:35
Wow, nice start!
Oh... and...

I WON!!!

Warwolt the skaven
29-03-2007, 08:26
looks like khornate maroders ^^

29-03-2007, 13:25
..close up of your Standard Bearer please :)

29-03-2007, 13:28
Will sort out a close up for you soon....

Small update today. Test colouring for the skin of the marauders.

Warwolt.. They look Khornate atm because the skin has only a basecoat of Dark Flesh. They will look diferent when done.

What a monumental task you have set for yourself. I will try to check in now and again to help keep you motivated. Also, what you have done so far looks really nice, you haven't lost too much in the two years of not painting (I suppose it is like riding a bike). Do you plan on making them just table standard, or are you going to try and take them up a notch (that may help with comments).

So far looking great. My vote for the next up is for a character model, give yourself a break from the troops. Maybe a chaos spawn, something like that.

29-03-2007, 21:15
Mousekiller... Thank you for the vote of confidence.

As chaos is my pride and joy of the warhammer world any that come out as only tabletop standard will be dunked in various non destructive paintstripper and repainted.

30-03-2007, 00:03
Well, in that case I will give you the best advice that I can to improve each miniature that you get nearing completion that might help improve it. So far I can't say that you need any, as you seem to be doing very well.

Picture wise, try getting a grey background (a bluish grey). Then, set it up as a back drop and for the floor. Two desk lamps (three if you want to jump that extra mile), and a tripod. When you take the pics put some paintpots on the outskirts that you can crop out later (red, yellow, green, and blue). The backdrop will help bring out your colors, and the paint pots will help your photoeditor restore a more realistic color to your minis.

Great work so far.

mousekiller: That is some advanced photoing :)

Mutantdale: I'd suggest you limit the nominated models to those found in your most common armylist. That way, you will ensure that what ever model gets painted goes right on to the wargaming table.

Following the reasoning above, I vote for furies (there gotta be some in that mess, right?) since these guys have a tendency of beeing included in every single chaos army.

More pics!
