Well, to be quite honest somebody needs to teach mageboltrat that orks don't always dominate the skies - so i've bought some flyers.

I thought i'd post the log here rather than on the MP&T forum as no one over there really cares about AI, and if they do - they'll look here first.

This is the first small multipart kit i'd bought from forgeworld. I wasn't particularly impressed with the quality of the casting. Lots of air pockets and thin layers of resin made cleaner the model of flash a bit tricky at times. two of the Tbolts were particularly difficult, one so much that it now has a tasty bit of 'battle damage' on one of the engine casings!

this is what the Tbolt kit looks like:

http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o276/revmatt/Minis/PICT0240-1.jpg

The small engine section has a 'vent' which needs to be removed to enable it to fit under the wing/engine casing:

http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o276/revmatt/Minis/PICT0242-1.jpg

The wing also has a gate on it which needs removing before it will fit flush to the main body of the Tbolt.

is your not sure what gates and vents are check the forgeworld assembly pages at THIS LINK (http://www.forgeworld.com/resinmodels2.htm)

I've decided to use mageboltrats excellent plane markers on my bases.

I couldnt decide whether to use numbers or the really funky names, so in the end i plumped for both!

For colour schemes i've been looking at some WW2 plane schemes.

I've seen a lot of blues and browns and greens so far, and am wanting to stray far enough away to have a unique finish.

what do you think of this scheme - its the leading contender so far:

very nice I think a red would look nice 2 also I think the Imperial base markers need a little varnish. other then that I can't wait to see some painted modles.

Ok,

Have given these babies a wash (make sure the water isnt too hot or you'll melt the thin wings out of shape) and a gentle toothbrush scrub (nothing to abrasive!) and they're ready for priming.

Make sure they're totally dry after having a bath before you prime!

This is how I like to paint:

As you can see I have a big stick, with holes drilled in it. Thsi way I can have batches of minis on the go, and they can stand upright safely. It also means I can paint holding the little plastic stick not the mini:

scroll down to the camoflague and markings section for the good stuff.

Why not do the Apostles from Double Eagle, your really good at doing pale cream, and gold edging would look cool.

hmm I've not read the book, is there any GW art about them?

Don't think so, anyone got a book handy with the description of their squadron. I'm not at home at the moment. so I can't check my copy

not sure I could play with a cream fleet of planes.

I mean comon, any one in a cream plane deserves to be shot down surely?

anyway we're primed and ready for action.

I'm thinking along the lines of

brass for the engines, grey/green (using new p3 paints) for the tops and stipled grey undersides.

The best of the best fly in cream planes. Though they seem to die soon after they are inducted into the squadron

its nice, but a little dull. I really like the luft green and gray scheme.

am going to swap out the yellow for red tho to tie in with your markers.

fancy a dogfight in the next week or so?

ok,

getting the transition from a dark grey topside to a light grey underside was more difficult than i'd thought - what do you think? hopefully these pics give an idea of the colour transition:

The top = dark grey with olive camo

http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o276/revmatt/PICT0252.jpg

The side = lighter grey

http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o276/revmatt/PICT0251.jpg

The underside = light grey

Your getting them done nice and fast. The base colours are looking sweet. What are you going to do in way of markings. The white stripe with symbols on them looks cool, but it's been done a few times.

If you have extra imperial guard sticker things they would work well for markings...

Few things on the painting. The basic scheme is nice, but it seems like the detail is washed out. Also you may want to do another layer of the green - make it contrast more with the grey (yes hard to do).

rev

where abouts do the markings go?

mageboltrat
30-03-2007, 09:46
If you look at the 2 german plane pictures in this thread. On the wings and on the side of the tail.

yeh also decided the olive was too drab, so have gone ove rit with catachan green and gloss varnished the glass canopy. its looking cool!

Very nice log - You've rekindled my love of AI. As regards to the paint scheme, I think that would look very much like the later RAF WW2 planes - green and grey.
