View Full Version : Eniac does Sa'cea

31-03-2007, 12:08
Hey all! I thought I would bite the bullet and do a project log. Now, I am operating on a shoestring but after more than a decade of half-arsing armies I decided to collect an army I really like and want to do. So I have always wanted to do Tau since their release but most of my firends untill now have collected them meaning I could not. But now things are different. So I have turned my eye towards doing a vanilla Tau force. Here is the list. It's pretty rough but is vaguely what I am after. It emphasises on meaty stealth unit as they are insanely hard.

147 - Shas O, plasma rifle, missile pod, shield generator, Hard wired multi tracker, HW drone controller with 1 shield drone

138 - 2 X Shas ui, twin linked missile pods, shield generator, twin linked plasma rifle, shield generator,

138 - 2 X Shas ui, twin linked missile pods, shield generator, twin linked plasma rifle, shield generator,

180 - 6 X stealth suits

120 - 10 fire warriors, with photon grenades, shas ui
120 - 10 fire warriors, with photon grenades, shas ui

155 - Hammer head, rail gun, targeting array, sensor spines

A nice well rounded (I think) starting force.

I have so far completed 3 fire warriors in Sa'cea sept colours. I am picking up another 7 from a guy and 3 stealth suits (new style) so should have those soon.

I will get you some pictures of my FWs in about 5-6 hours :) Untill, then, thoughts on the list would be appreciated but not neccesary as this is primarily a painting log

31-03-2007, 13:28
it is a good list, tau players put a lot of faith into their fire warriors.

looking forward to pics :)

31-03-2007, 15:39
Thanks :)

Untill I learn how to take better pics, this is as good as it is getting. I used a tripod, a s5600 and went outdoors. Maybe I should go inside?

photos deleted because they were crap and made me look rubbish. se further down for more better pics

here is a better pic i think. indoors with no tripod
photos deleted because they were crap and made me look rubbish. se further down for more better pics

31-03-2007, 15:47
they look fantastic, very nice work :)

constructive part:-
the shoulder guards, on the middle one at least theres a bit of uncleaned plastic. to clean it, put it flat on the table, and put the knife parallel to the guard and press down, it should shear it off nicely :)

apart from that i love them :)

31-03-2007, 15:47
Thank you :) I know I know, but I am very lazy and just want a fairly decent looking army quick :D

The pictures are pretty bad. These boys look quite matte in real life. No shine at all, if only tjhe pics shown that.

31-03-2007, 15:53
Thank you :) I know I know, but I am very lazy and just want a fairly decent looking army quick :D Well then, I think you're well on your way. ;) Maybe if you took the pictures in front of a piece of paper and lit both sides, you'd get better shots, but as it stands, those aren't horrible.

I would suggest you remove the points-costs for wargear in the army list you posted, as it's against the forum rules. Instead you could just post:

147 - Shas O - plasma rifle, missile pod, shield generator, Hard wired multi tracker, HW drone controller with 1 shield drone

The total is fine, individual costs, not so much.

- Vee

31-03-2007, 15:57
Done and done ;) thanks for the heads up.

Just brought my brother's old rail-head off him for a tenner, its getting the prep as we speak.

31-03-2007, 19:16
The Sa'cea is one of the best codex schemes and you are doing pretty well with it.

31-03-2007, 19:20
Thanks :)

I absolutely hate these pictures though, I wish I could show them in real life.

02-04-2007, 22:19
Hey! time for an update, I been absolutely swamped with work these last 2 days but managed to get this thing painted.

I brought it from my brother for a tenner, the condition was, to be fair, poor. Caked in paint and stuck together all wonky, but I had it anyway. It's gaming standard so I am happy

photos deleted because they were crap and made me look rubbish. se further down for more better pics
Just needs varnish and a flying stand.

03-04-2007, 04:07
Hey now, that looks great, especially since you finished it in so short a time. :) That picture does look a bit better too.

03-04-2007, 09:18
Thanks BodhiTree, I am just psyched to have a nice colourful tank :). I was a bit worried about the camo scheme but I think it came out ok.

The picture, I took it at night in my kitchen, that flourescent light tube works wonders. Natural daylight is so powerful, it just washes all the colour out.

Managed to find 4 old built and primed fire warriors last night ready for painting! May do thos today.

Also, I got my delivery from Wargamesworkshop this morning: 2 XV8 suits! Yay! Going to go and stick them together now.

03-04-2007, 09:32
wow you've done a great job on it, honestly looked brand new til you said it wasn't :p

nice job:)

03-04-2007, 09:35
:) Thank you. I spent ages filing all the major screw ups away but there was too much. Still, I managed to stealthily hide most of the damage and bodge.

03-04-2007, 10:51
Ok another little update for the day, I doubt I will get anywhere close to finishing these completely today but I imagine I could get quite far.

I decided to re-shuffle my weapon fits for the XV8's after seeing how awesome the burst cannons both look and perform. So now, at the saving of a half a dozen points I have a pair of nails looking suits that form one third of my elites allocation

There is something about shoulder mounted missile pods that is so......damn sexy :D

03-04-2007, 22:49
Yay! Work aside I managed to nearly complete these 2 guys.

Just need the bases doing and some varnish.

03-04-2007, 23:02
wow you are spewing these out and they're fantastic :)

nice work Eniac

03-04-2007, 23:04
Gah!

You paint just as fast as that unnamed 40k junkie who just so happens to run the biggest project log here. ;)

That's a really nice pair of Crisis suits. I suggest that if you do anymore, maybe go about doing some dynamic posing and the use of some flying stands on your bases - to break up the monotony of the pose.

04-04-2007, 09:02
Cool. Well I aim to get the FW crisis commander suit soonish so hoepfully I will be able to give him a nice pose. I quite like the poses these guys are in, it looks immovable and proud.

Next up is 4 more fire warriors.

04-04-2007, 09:35
Very clean lines and decent poses. Keep the good work up!

04-04-2007, 09:50
Thanks jasevx, I notice you are from Leicester, if you go in the Lesta GW you may see my army on the tables within the next 2 months (saturdays I imagine)

04-04-2007, 11:36
will do, our nearest is Loughborough, which so needs a gaming room!

i'll have to nip over for a battle or two!

04-04-2007, 11:41
I'm liking how this is coming on. Great work and super fast painting makes for an interesting thread.

04-04-2007, 11:44
@Jasevx - I used to study at luffy, good GW crew back then (2002-03) i still see some of them at GD :)

@Digitsdavid - my work takes the form of super long leisure industry hours back to back nights then mornings so there will be long chunks of time between saturday night and tuesday morning when progress will be slow. also most evenings. thanks for the comments though :)

04-04-2007, 12:41
I got to go to work now untill 3 o clock tomorow afternoon so before I do, here is the wippy shot of my workspace with he next 4 fire warriors.

05-04-2007, 23:34
There shall be a little photographic update tomorow of the army so far. It's kind of limp at the moment but it basically consists of:

1 crisis suit with TL missile pods and shield generator
1 crisis suit with TL burst cannons (sexy) and shield generator
1 rail head with smart missiles
7 fire warriors all armed with pulse rifles (no carbines sadly, that is the downside of buying 2nd hand and also being a lazy ****)

05-04-2007, 23:41
carbines aren't really much cop over pulse rifles.

nice army so far :) looking 4ward to the pics

05-04-2007, 23:44
Do they still pin? Plus personally I think they look better, hardcore. :D

I would take piccies tonight but I have been up since 6 AM yesterday (4th) and have been to work twice in 2 X 9 hour shifts since then. (I am buggered)

Probably tomorow at 9-ish

05-04-2007, 23:47
2 X 9 hour shifts since then. (I am buggered)

erm, just where do you work exactly  :p lol

you and i differ there, i think rifles look way better ;)

and for inspiration and motivation, check this OUT! (http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=68458&highlight=Hoff+Tau+Cadre)

05-04-2007, 23:58
Hoff is god, that stuff is insane. I have to hand it to the eavy metal team though, they make good schemes up.

I work in leisure btw, senior gym instructor at Spindles flagship gym in Coventry. Leisure is the most demanding thing I have ever done, you got to want it.

Nighty night, I need some sleep, I am about passed out on the keyboard here.

Brother Loki
06-04-2007, 00:20
Lovely stuff Eniac. Guess I should get back to my log - you're putting me to shame! ;)

06-04-2007, 00:39
1 crisis suit with TL burst cannons (sexy) and shield generator

Do they still pin? Plus personally I think they look better, hardcore.

I like the way you think! :D

I also like the way you paint! Though, having the camo'd hammerhead amidst an army of non-camo'd everything my look a bit weird.

Still, keep it up!

06-04-2007, 09:34
Thank you for the support guys :D
As promised, here are some shots, I learned finally how to adjust the exposure time and managed to get some pretty neat shots using a tripod and the great outdoors. I am using a fuji finepix S5600 by the way, fantastic camera.

First up, the army shot as a whole.

Now the Rail head

06-04-2007, 09:34
THe other suit

And now my personal favourite picture, the fire warriors, looking very GW studio if you ask me lol.

So from here. I can't really do anything more untill my mate finally gets round to giving me his old tau stuff. A crisis suit, 3 stealth suits (new style) and 7 fire warriors.

06-04-2007, 10:27
looking fantastic Eniac, you honestly couldn't tell any of it was second hand, and they are very GW studio ;)
if you are open to suggestions on what's next i'd say finish the fire warrior unit (assuming its a unit of 12):D

whats the HQ going to be?

06-04-2007, 10:34
Thanks SC :)

For the 1000 point starting limit me and my mates have imposed, there are 2 squads of 10 fire warriors, one with markerlight.

THough when we move up to 1500 I will either expand each with a further 2 men or add a third 10 man squad.

the HQ will be the XV89 (?) suit from Forgeworld with the following loadout: Shas O, plasma rifle, missile pod, shield generator, Hard wired multi tracker

08-04-2007, 11:23
OK folks, sorry for the absence but I have been bogged down with work over this easter holiday, though at double time it is not a problem ;) :p

I have finished the first half of my Stealth suit unit so a bit of creative photography later and

What do you guys reckon? BTW my new gaming board will also be mostly like the scenery in this picture, I gotta get me some of those gorgeous GW buildings.

08-04-2007, 11:28
Care to give us a run down of how you're painting these guys? Seem to be churning them out swiftly, and at top quality. :)

I'm watching this with interest.

08-04-2007, 11:34
Care to give us a run down of how you're painting these guys? Seem to be churning them out swiftly, and at top quality. :)

I'm watching this with interest.

Thank you :)

The scheme is simple.
1: Go for a couple of coats of black spray to prime these models.
2: The black areas are simply highlighted with eitehr codex great neat or a 50/50 mix of black and codex grey.
3: The blue areas are shadow grey. Highlights with 50/50 bone and shadow grey then shaded with stormy blue.

4: lenses are red gore with black for shading and vomit brown for highlights

5: Orange is skull white with blazing orange on top

6: bases are scorched brown with bestial brown then vomit brown to finish.

7: finish with testors dull coat for a nice sheen

The secret is to spend a lot of time on the lenses, they add depth to the model and make any poor paintjob better.

08-04-2007, 12:58
the suits look mean :) i think the silver metallic (as opposed to brass/bronze/gold) suits the colder look to the sa'cea over the tau. Fantastic work mate :)

08-04-2007, 13:03
Gorgeous, pure and simple.

08-04-2007, 21:41
Aww thanks guys :)

Will have the 3rd crisis suit finished by tommorow evening. I didn't like the golden/brassy bits on the studio models, it didnt seem to go with the colour scheme. Especially since orange is the contrasting colour, it might have gotten lost.

09-04-2007, 17:42
Hey hey, just got back from work and managed to put the finishing touches to my third crisis suit. I also built a shield drone for my shas'o but I don't have the points just yet.

Photos will come later on tonight when the crisis suit's base is finished.

09-04-2007, 20:43
As promised, here is a picture of my third crisis suit. You will have to wait for tommorow if you want an arty posed picture though. Someone has to request it first :p

Just to illustrate the weapon fit. This is the one I got off my mate but I did the weapons myself, I know its wonky but it does look good in real life :D

09-04-2007, 20:59
oooh so gundam ;)

i love it, awesome painting and cool conversions

09-04-2007, 21:08
:D I wanted to give my commander two twin linked burst cannons, one set hanging off each arm but the damn rules wont let me do it .

09-04-2007, 21:20
Great looking tau. Damn that orange is vibrating :D

09-04-2007, 21:21
Great looking tau. Damn that orange is vibrating :D

Strange that, when I was much younger the colour orange used to vibrate to my eyes all the time but these days it does not. Why is that?

Thanks btw :)

20-04-2007, 00:18
Strange that, when I was much younger the colour orange used to vibrate to my eyes all the time but these days it does not. Why is that?

Without getting too much into color theory it has to do with the fact that Orange and blue are on the exact opposite sides of the color wheel.

Anyway, those Tau are looking mighty sweet. They make me what to go abck and finish my Tau army.

20-04-2007, 00:59
I've always loved the Sa'cea scheme. If it's done well it just looks so gorgeous and you sir have done it well.

20-04-2007, 09:48
Thank you so much guys :)

Progress atm is slow as I have used up all my models so far, but I am awaiting delivery of a 4th battlesuit and 12 or so firewarriors so I should have something to show you by the end of the weekend.

Also ordered some wound markers, objective markers and otehr bits from GF9 which arrived this morning :D Niiiiiice.

23-04-2007, 23:55
Just "won" 3 brand new stealth suits off eBay so should have those ready some time soon.

24-04-2007, 08:40
Thanks :) I love the sa'cea scheme, if it wasn't for the orange it just wouldn't work.

27-04-2007, 10:59
Ok folks sorry for the lack of updates but I was without models for a large time but thanks to SC I now have some more stuff to paint.

Here is the wip of the 4th crisis suit, pay particular attention to the head which is now more streamlined and less chunkity. He was originally going to have twin linked plasma rifles but I forgot and since I love missile pods I stuck those in instead.

27-04-2007, 14:27
Seems to be a quite nice model :)

28-04-2007, 09:16
Thanks. I need all of your opinion on what I should do for my commander. I was thinking about getting the FW shash'o r'mir suit and converting it up, but I think that it would be hard to give it my desired weapon fit.

I could also go for the XV89 as it looks pretty cool, but not that much different from a regular gw battlesuit.

My third option was to crack out the old GS and sculpt a load of bits for a GW suit and hope to god it works. I seen some nice shash'os on cmon. What do you guys reckon? I want this model to stand out as the daddy! I think a scenic base will be in order whatever I do.

28-04-2007, 09:20
check out Fil Dunn's battlesuits ;)

if i were you, i'd do something with the power shields and all the extra gubbinz, use the shields on either arm, then modify the weapons to hang below the arm, it makes the whole thing look a bit bigger and meaner. use something interesting for the head and have a little consortium of drones all round?

here are my examples - no threadjack though, just links ;)

1 (http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k26/schoolcormorant/Tau/S3700004.jpg)
2 (http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k26/schoolcormorant/Tau/S3700007.jpg)

have fun with it man!

28-04-2007, 09:24
Cheers SC, I think the key thing will be the head. Making it look meaner. Fil dunn?

28-04-2007, 09:30
Fil Dunn's a eavy metal painter :)

battlesuit (http://www.coolminiornot.com/142519)
battesuit....err 2 (http://www.coolminiornot.com/148285)

28-04-2007, 09:33
Whoa, they just look mean. I seen that broadside before but that crisis is amazing.

28-04-2007, 11:10
Or you could try a Tael-type suitThat kind of xv8 stealth-suit, you know (or mayby don't - if so i'll search for pics)

28-04-2007, 11:30
I like the head on this one

Fleafa? Doesn't he live here?

28-04-2007, 13:05
i think he does

i like that head, good head :D

give it a go :)

28-04-2007, 13:16
Cool, I also found this (http://www.coolminiornot.com/index/whatm/GW/id/133005). I like the use of the IG binoculars on the one on the right.

02-05-2007, 09:42
Still havent had chance to do painting yet but I have ordered the FW xv89.

Still to complete:

3 X stealth suits
6 X Fire warriors
1 X crisis suit
1 X xv89 commander with scenic base

And a minor update on the crisis suit. He gets the paint on thursday. Opinions would be very welcome :)

Also 3 more doods for my squads.

02-05-2007, 10:28
I like the pose of the guy with the tank-commander binocular, but... the puls-rifle on his back looks a bit weird... I dunno.
I also like the job with the crisis head and the legs, but there still is the mouldline on the missiles. Hope you know that.
Anyway, good job!
Wait, wait :wtf: Are you painting that firewarrior in the T'au sept colours? :wtf:

02-05-2007, 10:44
Eh? Oh no, that was left from a previous scheme that partiular FW was painted in. (blame SC :p)

About those missiles, the mouldines are hell to get rid of.

Lord Macharius
02-05-2007, 14:20
These are looking really good, cant wait to see the finished army

02-05-2007, 14:57
(blame SC :p)

i hear that phrase far to often than can be good.....

looking good mate, will you do some pics of the xv89 in bits when you get it please?

02-05-2007, 23:09
These are looking really good, cant wait to see the finished army
Thank you, neither can I :D

@ SC: No problem :)

03-05-2007, 21:59
Told you I'd get him in paint today.

03-05-2007, 22:33
looks great:)

nice work on him, i've never been 100% on the FW kneeguards, but actually it looks fine, what was i worried about?!? it's you?!

03-05-2007, 22:36
I suppose they look chunkity but its a little break form the norm. I actually love the basic crisis suit legs just how they are I was simply taken in a moment of conversion madness. Maybe just to see how it looks.

Thanks though :)

Next up is the last 6 fire warriors, then the last 3 stealth suits. I'ma save the commander till last :D

04-05-2007, 12:23
Great job, mate. What else should I say?

04-05-2007, 12:27
Great job, mate. What else should I say?

:) Thanks. You don't have to say anything more. I'm glad to see more support here, gives me the kick I need to continue.

Once I finish this first 1000 (maybe within the fortnight) I got to plan the next 500. Maybe thinking about 2 broadside suits and a pathfinder squad. I am already converting some up.

The rail rifle needs to support his gun on a wall or rock or something so just ignore it.

I apologise for the crappy pics.

notice this whole army will be plastic except for the FW commander who is part resin.

04-05-2007, 13:10
Your army is fantastic. Such a nice and crisp paintjob.

I will be watching this one for sure.

04-05-2007, 21:40
Cool poses :) The anthena to rail rifle idea is good, BUT I am not to fond of the target lock :eyebrows: and I think the end of the barell should be a bit 'guniffied'. But good work anyway.

04-05-2007, 22:47
Cheers guys :)

I was worried about the target lock myself. It needs some sort of scope I think, I'll see what I can come up with.

13-05-2007, 19:14
any updates for us Eniac?

14-05-2007, 15:54
Unofortunately not, I haven't had time to what with my commision works and my full time work at Spindles (gym)

I'll see what I can do for friday. It will only be a further 6 fire warriors though i hsould imagine.

26-05-2007, 14:12
Check it out! An update! This is the start of my third squad of FW. Carbines babeh!

26-05-2007, 14:17
the one third from the right is absolutely amazingly painted, i mean, golden demon quality even, honestly, don't think i've seen better...

oh wait :p:D

love the 'thingemy's' on the backpacks, really cool, the serg looks mean too!

no excuses...paint!

26-05-2007, 14:30
Lol, cool :D

Each dude has 2 bunches of grenades, a pulse carbine and a backpack arial. This is to make them look more elite, I think Carbines are mean as hell and I think only those FW brave enough would use use them. They would be those skilled enough at using such short ranged weapons.

27-05-2007, 22:26
Eh up dude, ditto :p

Get your **** in gear and paint that Carbine unit, can't wait to see it done, the whole elite thing really works.

05-06-2007, 10:59
Hey all, I need an opinion. I want to add a squad of 10 Gue'vesa to my army but I was thinking of using the new plastic scouts. DO you think they are too heavily armoured? What do you guys rueckon? What plastic kit or combination of kits should I use?

I was thinking maybe Cadian legs and FW torsos with a mix of bare heads (with antennae) and Tau helmets. They will probably also have a Tau shoulder pad but how about the backpack? In effect making them look fairly like Firewarriors. I think the tau grenades will also make them look very Tau like.

And I want the full compliment of carbines as well (a measly 2)

Any opinions?

05-06-2007, 11:03
I've done these (donated my last ones to SC), the tau helmets wouldn't fit a human head in them, but the torsos and shoulder pads are fine, and look good. I used mainly Catahan parts but Cadian is just as good

05-06-2007, 11:17
Thanks for the advice. I really am tempted to do a few FW helmets though. That is a shame to hear :(

Do you think the scout idea is any good?

05-06-2007, 16:22
Scouts sound good. But not so keen on the FW helmets, as they would make them look too Tau-like. They also seem to be a piece of equipment that is reserved for actual Tau. Maybe you should do just one for the squad leader. Make him stand out from the rest of the squad.

05-06-2007, 16:25
Hmm, I guess. I think I will haveto compromise. The tau body armour with cadian helmets would look trick.

I have just ordered a box of guard by the way (as well as a 6th crisis suit) and I have plenty of FW bits knocking around. Lets see what I can come up with :D

I decided on 12 Gue'vesa with 2 carbines in there.

07-06-2007, 19:52
LO! I have returned with a nice phat update. As you can see I have finished the last three stealths meaning this squad is finished. Also, I have added clump foliage to all of my Tau boys.

And not too far from finished are my Carbine Warriors who shall be posted here maybe saturday

07-06-2007, 19:57
These have really grown on me, wasn't sure of the new plastic stealths but they do paint alot better than the old ones!

07-06-2007, 20:00
I have to say I enjoyed painting these much more than the old ones. Plus they are plastic so they can take a lot more punishment whilst gaming.

They look generally harder I think.

07-06-2007, 20:26
Looking good dude, can't wait too see the Carbine unit, most of your army will be done soon unlike mine :cries:.

You should post some more shots of everything you've done so far when you do the Carbine photos.

07-06-2007, 20:42
Cheers kidder. I will do you a group shot, special for you :D

btw son you havent got any spare FW torsos knocking around have you? I need 2 more!

07-06-2007, 21:18
Luckily for you I have just found 5 whole Fire Warriors in my bits box :D

Also found plenty of odds and sods to go with them, and being the nice person I am you can have them to do as you please, I take it there for your ally unit.

07-06-2007, 21:50
Ahhh cheers :) I am going to use the torsos for my Gue'vesa. Cadian legs, arms and heads and Tau torsos, grenades and backpacks. Also, two of the guys will have carbines.

I'll see if I can grustle together some more Eldar stuff for you.

08-06-2007, 05:53
Love the Stealths Eniac, very nice.

08-06-2007, 06:06
I LOVE the shoulder mounted weapons on Crisis Suits! Fine work, very fine!

08-06-2007, 08:39
Thanks guys :) I'm currently in "paint mode" so expect updates untill I run out of models

Armornar: Thank you :)

Mistformsquirrel: Cheers, I like shoulder mounts for weapons because it adds to the classic V shape that makes bodybuilders and wrestlers look bigger and tougher.

08-06-2007, 10:19
Great stealth suits. Seriously, this army is gonna look better than the 'Eavy Metal equivalent.

08-06-2007, 11:17
Lol thank you but they aren't that good in the flesh. I am just skill with my camera :p ;)

08-06-2007, 11:25
they are pretty good man!

08-06-2007, 11:30
:) thanks guys. SC, I guess they aint that bad, I just keep them very simple.

98% finished my carbine dudes so I should have a nice big army shot for you all tommorow, in a scene!

Oh, btw SC I got the FW suit but it was completely miscast so I am sending it back, but I havent forgotten about your request and will post photos of the replacement kit when it arrives.

09-06-2007, 13:40
Ok big update type post. I have finally cobbled together some sort of coherant force.

Here is the group shot. If you are wondering where the railhead is, I hated the model and sold it for £28 (I think) on the Bay (£18 profit for me!).

And a close up on the Carbine wielding FW

Any comments etc would be muchly appreciated.

09-06-2007, 13:49
Glad to see your making money on this hobby!

They've really gelled together as unit!

09-06-2007, 14:05
Thanks, I think these Carbine warriors are my fave.

Left to complete:

1: Shas'O with shield drone: The FW suit was crap so I am sending it back and building/sculpting one myself instead untill the new parts arrive at which point I will have two Shas'o/el

2: 12 Human auxilliaries (Gue'vesa)

That should take me up to 945 points.

For the next 500 I plan on adding some more FW to each each squad but most importantly I want to field 2 or 3 pirahna with fusion blasters and also a couple of broadsides.

09-06-2007, 14:16
noice, conversions on Tau are difficult to pull off i think but you've...pulled it off!

the squad look bitchin' like a bitter bunch of fathers not able to see their kids...so take it out on others...:wtf:

09-06-2007, 14:19
CHeers! Lol, I don't really convert (cept maybe this Shas'O I will build) it's more a case of just sticking bits on and it looks ok-ish.

the squad look bitchin' like a bitter bunch of fathers not able to see their kids...so take it out on others...:wtf:
They do look rather pissed off I have to admit! I should get a shot of that bonding knife really, I used a fairly decent nmm technique on it. There is no actual metallics in this whole army. I don't think it suits the Tau.

09-06-2007, 16:16
very nice old bean, Carbine unit look great, and the whole army is coming together nicely.

09-06-2007, 16:40
Cheers matey.

By the way, I decided to build my commander with a more Eldar-unfriendly weapon fit :D

CYCLIC ION BLASTER thingy! Assault 5 ap 4 strength 3. Eldar killer! And because I am commited to a mostly plastic army I built it from plastic bits

09-06-2007, 17:43
And lo! I have created what I believe to be a totally bad-ass suit!

09-06-2007, 17:45
swish :D

09-06-2007, 17:48
Thanks SC. Still needs filing and cleaning up but you get the idea. This guy means business.

09-06-2007, 17:52
Wow really love the new suit Eniac, very nice.

09-06-2007, 17:56
Thank you Amornar. Makes me wish I took more time on the first 4 :(

10-06-2007, 12:42
The army is very nice and clean - but this battlesuit... It must be one of the best looking Tau commanders I've seen thus far.

You've got skills, congrats and thanks for sharing :D !

10-06-2007, 20:32
Dude that suit looks seriously mean, although I'm not happy about the amount of gun barrels he is packing :D.

10-06-2007, 20:58
great work yet again! just gets better

10-06-2007, 21:40
:D Thank you so much guys.

Core commander: Thanks, thats great to hear! I have nearly finished painting him so expect pictures sometime tommorow afternoon. Complete with shield drone (also converted)

Leechy: You'll find how just how awesome that gun is soon boyo :p any 6's to wound count as ap1 as well!

jasevx: many thanks, I'm glad you see an improvment.

11-06-2007, 02:53
Looking great. My only comment is that you have what looks like a fire warrior shoulder guard on one leg, but not the other. Is that deliberate?

11-06-2007, 15:13
very deliberate. I figured his left knee would be just as valuable to him as a FWs left arm :D

Brother Loki
11-06-2007, 16:21
The commander looks excellent nicely posed and nicely converted.

11-06-2007, 18:16
Thank you, but here he is with some paint!

11-06-2007, 18:21
will you stop coming up trumps, its making our stuff look crap! ;)

11-06-2007, 18:37
awesome. 'nuff said :D

clump foliage is always good ;)

11-06-2007, 19:06
Jasevx: No, it's just clever camera work :D

SC: Cheers for that, I got a "small" bag and I can see it lasting for pretty much forever!

11-06-2007, 19:22
Awesome job! The aerials really make that model, giving him a mean, solid look. Also, the pose is great - very dynamic.

That reminds me that I was using a commander from the same sept with Aurora config too (right arm CIB+left arm plasma), and also with plasma stabilisers (are they stabilizers?) pointing downwards, heh. Yours seem to outrank and out-awesome mine at all fronts though :p .

11-06-2007, 19:37
Cool. Any pics? Sa'cea is pretty rare, especially here on warseer. So far I think I am the only one who actually carried out their plan. I would like to see some of your stuff

11-06-2007, 19:52
Very nice mate, the pose, guns and Antennas all work, I might just have to point a few long rifles his way. :D

11-06-2007, 19:58
"few" being the optimum word! :p

[smack talk]A shield generator, 4 wounds and a shield drone all = a tough nut to crack, not to mention the CIB, plasma rifle and multi tracker[/smack talk]

11-06-2007, 20:01
You wouldn't like to see them, trust me on that ;) . First army, looks pretty crappy, most of it is still unfinished and the battlesuits have more static poses than most of Lenin's statues, heh.

I've got big plans to finish the entire force during my summer hollidays though, so - who knows? Depending on how that will work out... In the meantime I intend to watch your work instead, it's sweet :D .

11-06-2007, 20:07
thats a shame, but at least you have an eye towards finishing them up. Any photos at all?

11-06-2007, 20:34
Unfortunately, the only photos I've made (commemorating my first battle) perished when my laptop refused to display ANY graphics at all one day (failed driver updates... that was a sad, sad format c: day :cries: :skull: ).

Okay, so let's do it like this: after my holliday I'll take a few pics of (hopefully) completed army and send them over so that you can see they're really nothing special at all, ok ;) ? Heh, all the more motivation for me...

Take care, CC

12-06-2007, 10:25
No worries :)

I thought I'd give you all a group shot of all the suits together. THough for 1500 points I need 4 more!

12-06-2007, 14:38
Another update. Very small this time. The following is the test figure in my latest squad. An 8 man (yes I cut the numbers down slightly) Gue'vesa squad. There will be a leader (ui) and 2 carbines.

Total time taken, maybe an hour, but it was a single figure, when I batch the rest it should be much less.

C&C needed and appreciated :)

12-06-2007, 14:50
nice, very ver nice :)

being a man who's been in this hobby for 15months, and for at least 10 of those months being a cadian guardman, *leans back in chair* i can tell you i've seen a lot of cadians, and this one is one of the good'uns. shame he's put aside the emperor for the blue boys though :D

the face is awesome, 1)how did you do it, and 2) don't you think it's a bitch getting at the eyes :(

12-06-2007, 14:55
Only 15 months? Damn, makes you think. YOu got some skill son.

1) The face is done in the foundry method. 3 stages....but I only used 2 stages :D. First I put down a layer of bestial brown and then I painted on some P3 midlund flesh.

2) eyes are a bitch to paint and I don't really bother on Cadians because they're usually obscured by the edge of the helmet when you are looking down on them anyway :p

12-06-2007, 14:59
Post 666, sign of the devil, your guardsmen shouldn't have abandoned the emporer! Great model, think SC summed it up well.

12-06-2007, 15:15
Hah, I think if I were human I would join the Tau as a mercenary. Beats the imperium any day :D

12-06-2007, 15:22
Spot on, looks good and I should imagine it will fit in with the rest of the army well. :)

I like all your crisis suits. *shudder*

de Selby
12-06-2007, 16:56
The commander is ace; how tricky was it to re-pose the left leg?

I like your shield drone too. He looks zippy; I can imagine him whizzing along behind his master making a noise like a frogstar robot class B...

12-06-2007, 17:09
that last bit was lost on me, possibly to be recalled at a later date whilst mellowing with a cigar :D

The left leg was much easier than I had first thought. I started off by cutting carefully around that joint going over and over the same part carefully but in the end I decided to cut it from the back and found that the blade followed the countour of the joint perfect. So once I had removed the shin I simply reattached it at a more acute angle. There was a tiny gap I couldn't be bothered to fill with GS so I just trimmed down that FW shoulder pad and stuck it on, a'la Tau empire codex cover.

And thanks :D

12-06-2007, 18:31
My references are now tending to the incomprehensible end of obscure, evidently. The frogstar robots are from the much-loved original radio serial of HitchHiker's Guide to the Galaxy. The smaller, flying ones make a loud whizzing sound as they hunt for Zaphod Beeblebrox in the ruined offices of the HitchHikers' publishing house. Eventually they give up and just take the whole building...

12-06-2007, 18:53
Wow, a Guardsman wearing Sa'Cea colours... That's something new - and I like it lots :D . Especially that skin tone looks good, not to pale, not too dark and not too "pink" (the worst possibility). Nice stuff.

Also, I didn't notice it in the first pic, but that drone looks almost like he has wheelies to whiz on. Sweet conversion, I guess it adds a bit of humour to the otherwise very badazz-looking army.

12-06-2007, 20:38
Heh, not my intention but I see what you mean :D. Yeah, the guarsman also sports a FW torso and backpack but I guess that just fits the model pretty good.

de selby: ah, never seen/heard it :D

13-06-2007, 11:45
I thought I would post the new army list for a bit of mild amusement.
It has changed somewhat since the original yet still retains the basic reliance on suits.

165 - Shas O, plasma rifle, cyclic ion blaster, shield generator, Hard wired multi tracker, HW drone controller with 1 shield drone and 1 gun drone, bonded

138 - 2 X Shas ui, twin linked missile pods, shield generator, twin linked plasma rifle, shield generator

120 - 2 X Shas ui, twin linked burst cannon, shield generator, twin linked missile pods, shield generator

180 - 6 X stealth suits

98 - 8 fire warriors with photon grenades, shas ui
98 - 8 fire warriors with photon grenades, shas ui
98 - 8 fire warriors with photon grenades, shas ui, bonded, and carbines
66 - 8 gue’vesa, with gue’ves’ui, and 2 pulse carbines

TOTAL = 963

I also want to field a real pain-in-the-**** unit and I thought 6 gun drones would work. What do you reckon? A jetpack unit that has twin linked pinning weapons.

Also I have made a start on another 3 FW, one each for each of the three squads taking them up to 8 men.

21-07-2007, 12:58
Love the painting style, and i love how neat and just nice they look. Definately a good painter!

21-07-2007, 13:02
Hey thanks! I have been considering scrapping the auxilliaries in favour of a 6th battlesuit.

22-07-2007, 12:52

Very nice Eniac - did the Fire Warrior torso fit Cadian legs/arms well or was there much adjustment? Been thinking of doing a similiar gue'vesa squad.

26-07-2007, 10:21
Hola! Sorry for the delay in replying Sephiroth.

The torso went with the legs and head fine but it is too narrow I think for the arms and I had to do some sneaky cutting and gs.

As a small update whilst I wait for leechy to begin his IG, I decided to finish up my Tau. I have three more FW to paint (one for each squad) and am looking into 2 tank hunting pirahna instead of the auxilliaries.

09-08-2007, 18:37
Yo d00ds :p

Slight update in the form of:

What do you reckon?

09-08-2007, 18:42
nnnnnnnnnnnnnniiiiiiiiiiiiicccccccccceeeeeeeee!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D

heh, very nice, though the highlights are a bit thick?

orange works well on the front :)

09-08-2007, 19:02
nice tau eniac! i am seriosly thinking on adding a bunch of gue'vesa to my tau if i get the chance, yours are really ace. i'll do mine alittle differently, but yours look good, and i wasn't sure if gue'vesa looked right in a tau force. got any pics of the gue next to some firewarriors? it would help my decision.

and gun drones are a great unit choice. they deepstrike, they pin, they can provide great support for both FWs and XV8/25s due to their ability to pin enemy units in place and prevent charging. they can also screen your suits or FWs. another great thing about them is that they can occasionally get lucky on the rear armor of tanks! besides all of that, they math-hammer out to be more accurate than bs3 (avg in tau army)! they are definitly worth their points, and since their small unit size keeps them at under a hundred point at max unit size, their relatively disposable. if you can't tell, i really like my drones. i say take 'em.

09-08-2007, 19:41
That looks awesone Eniac. Solid paint job. I agree with SC that the highlights a little thick near the cockpit. And d'oh, mold lines on the cannon on the front, but besides those two little things, I think it's great.

Keep up the good work!

10-08-2007, 08:24
Lol thank you guys, yeah I know what you mean about those highlights, I don't think it detracts though. Mold lines...meh :p I can live with those. I just want this army built as fast as possible, total time taken to build and paint the pirahna = probably less than 4 hours

Hope to add some more updates real soon, especially considering my brother has shown interest in starting up again.

My Tau had their first battle yesterday against 1000 points of swarn nids. I lost badly. Why? I forgot to use their jet packs to make my escape (DOH!)
I mean casualties on his side were horrific, but sheer bad luck (my board edge allocation on a breakout mission) meant all my heavy stuff was on the wrong side of the board whilst his heavy hitters could walk off relatively unnaposed. :(

Now he is after a tyrant and some tyrant guard, I guess I had better plan for this and take something heavier. A couple of broadsides, a load of kroot and another pirhana should help. How about a 2nd shas'O?

10-08-2007, 09:34
I reckon it kicks A LOT of as$. Literally, like if it had a boot, it'd be covered in a$$ entrails from it's ass kickery it's THAT cool :D

dave is the best
10-08-2007, 10:24
Wow, i just read through the whole thread and i must say every thing looks awsome!

10-08-2007, 10:37
hallowed: Thanks :D Though lets see how they do in pitched battles before we hand out the ass kicking medals :p

Dave: Thanks, I try to keep this thing updated as much as possible.

10-08-2007, 22:44
Here is me taking my Frog boys out on their first battle :p

only half the army is visible here, the rest is lined up on the opposite board edge

10-08-2007, 22:47
whats the significance of you're username? it's caine backwards...does that mean anything?

10-08-2007, 23:31
My name? Oh....one of my fave dance tunes is "Pumpin" by Tom Novy vs Eniac :D

"here we go....."

11-08-2007, 07:56
*gulp* oh man, after my recent ass kicking and realising that I have little to no ability to effectively take down both hordes of pathetic stuff and also, 5 wound regenerating carnifexes, I decided I need some sort of template weapon. I think I should go for 2 railheads, what do you think?

Something that can reliably kill at least 8 "without number" gaunts per turn from a nice distance but also send out a good solid s10 round to try and mangle the big things as well. So far my army stands in the infantry killer category, what with all that burst and pulse weaponry. My only anti tank capabilities lie in my missile pod crisis team and my pirahna. (I have another I need to paint)

What do you all think? Is there a way I can do this without resorting to ugly ass Tau tanks?

LOL I just ordered two burst cannon sentry turrets from FW. They look awesome, plus they can deep strike! YAY!

11-08-2007, 08:15
Broadsides mate, you get more for your money than a hammer head. It's also a conversion opportunity. 2 broadsides with multitrackers can take down 10 gaunts max a turn and are a big danger to tanks.

Sweet army by the way, makes me want to add a bit to my tau army.

11-08-2007, 08:23

Hmmm, it would give me the excuse to buy those sweet FW broadside suits I guess......

They will have to be either resin or plastic, I don't even want a shred of metal in this army.

FYI 1. ENIAC is also the name of one of the first digital computers, which is possibly where the name originated:

FYI 2. Weren't you building a farsight enclave army at one point? You may or may not know that GW is doing a bulk buy deal on crisis suits for Apocalypse, which could be right up Farsight's street...

11-08-2007, 22:22
Eniac... yes I only found that out recently. I thought it was the absolute first though?

Hmmm, I considered that. Lets see what these apocalypse rules are like, I would like more suits for sure, but currently I can only fit another 8 in :p

11-08-2007, 22:30
Man! you can paint! love the colors.

On page 2 you have a railhead ,are you willing to give a color break down?

Thanks One:chrome:

Very nice Eniac, I missed this log and only stumbled upon it by chance when looking at your wanted ad and saw the Commander conversion.

5/5 is my rating, and yes I have bumped you up. :)

12-08-2007, 22:11
Captain Brown: Most appreciated :)

Oneofmany: I can't actually remember what I did for the camo. THe base is merely shadow grey but maybe I added some black or maybe even dark blue paint to the shadow grey. I don't know :p

Eniac... yes I only found that out recently. I thought it was the absolute first though?

Going by the table in the wikipedia link I posted, ENIAC (1944/1948) was the first digital computer that was electronic, programmable and Turing complete (general purpose). Interestingly, unlike Colossus (1943/1944) and every modern computer, it wasn't binary.
