I just bought the new(er) Necro book of ebay and to be honest I haven't played Necro in about 8 years. I have a big cawdor gang and I am planning on converting a van saar gang. I haven't read the new rules off the website as I'm just planning on sitting down and reading the book once I get it.

I was just looking for some general suggestions for the two gangs. I plan on having a heavily converted Van Saar gang using IG, Tau and Necro bits but I want to limit the conversions for the cawdor gang. I really just need some ideas as far as good weapons choices for the gangs.

You should really have a quick look if you plan to do converting as the gang construction rules have changed. House gangs now have restricted weapons lists to start with. There is a different list for each house, with their own section for leader only weapons (which can be bought and given to gangers as normal after the first game). Any weapons not on your list require you to sacrifice a roll on the rare trade chart for each one.

Van Saar get knives, clubs, autopistols, stubguns, boltpistols, laspistols, autoguns, lasguns, shotguns, plasmaguns, flamers, heavy stubbers, heavy plasma guns, lascannons, and for leader only weapons meltagun, plasma pistol and chainsword.

Cawdor get knives, stubguns, autopistols, laspistols, boltpistols, hand flamers, autogun, shotgun, lasgun, boltgun, grenade launcher, flamer, heavy bolter, heavy stubber, autocannon and the leader gets chainsword and meltagun.

There is an error on the house cawdor list, the correct price for a hand flamer is 20 creds (covered in the 2007 FAQ) and their list changed slightly in the rules review

Speaking of which you should pick up the FAQ from the website and the rules review (note that the FAQ supersedes the rules review but doesn't cover everything in it)

Additionally, on the website there are Arbitrator Generals experimental rules for skills. I think they're very good (except the leadership table which could use some work).

The Necro book should have been here by now. But I do plan on wating to convert my gangs til after I read the new rules. In fact I don't have a choice in the matter, most of the bits are still in the mail as well.

I have been downloading all the additional missions and extra rules from the website. I'm also planning on having an ogryn be a permanent part of my gang. This can be done through house rules, right?

Yep, AG revised all the house rule hired guns and put them up on the site in the articles section, the article was called Forgotten Guns. They are considered house rules.

Make sure you download the FAQs, as some of the house gang weapon selections have changed.

I just got the Underhive book today but I realized its not the hardback and doesn't have the outlanders rules in it. Do I have to download those off the specialist games site?

the outlanders comes in bits and pieces. You'd be best trying to buy the original book as well as downloading the existing stuff i reckon.

I have all the original Necro books, so that's good news. :)

Again, the gang lists have changed, this time more drastically. The scavvies got nerfed beyond a prayer, the spyrers got changed for the better, the ratskins got changed for the better (though there's no shaman and a lot of people dislike the totem warriors) and redemptionists can be broken.

The treacherous is the same, i'm fairly sure the trading chart is the same, Ld challenges, scenarios (caravan is going to be looked at soon), special characters underwent a little revision.

Thats about everything.
