View Full Version : The Battle of Bogenhafen

07-04-2007, 03:42
And so it begins...

During the storm of Chaos, Throt the unclean, Scourge of Empire, Bane to man, Organized what he hopes to be a backstab into the heart of the Empire. Bogenhafen, which lies to the South of Altdorf was his target. His plan is simple, crush Bogenhafen, strike towards Altdorf and split the armies of the Empire into a war on two fronts. Chaos has answered his call, Orcs and Goblins were lured to the smell of battle, Dogs of War agreed to the price, and a band of renegade White Wolves, fearing for their souls have taken up arms against the forces of Light.

Word of this invasion has reached Karl Franz, and the army of Bogenhafen has been assembled. Realizing that his reserves were low from constant warfare, the Emporor has called upon sell swords to fill his ranks. Ogres and Tilean mercenaries have joined the forces of light. Marching south towards an enemy that heavily outnumbers them they march.

Dawn of the day of battle arrives, and horns pierce the morning fog. Bt these are not the crude horns of the enemy, rather the melodic horns of the eldar. The high elves, under the leadership of Teclis and Eltharian have arrived to aid in the struggle.

All hell is about to let loose....

This game is the largest game that I have ever played, I, Karl, play the forces of light. I have 22,407 points of troops under my control.

Rob, who commands the forces of darkness has 22,765 points under his control.

Rob and I are longtime opponents of each other, so this battle is the culmination of many years of conflict.

This is a 2 day game, starting tonight, Friday April 6, 2007 and lasting until Saturday

This is an 8 turn game
Each army sets up in their own deployment zone. No intermingling of armies!!
Reserves may freely enter the board starting the 2nd turn, as if they pursed an enemy off the table, and into their deployment zone
Each side has one supreme general, per the general's compendium book
Each army generates only 1 power and dispel dice
each army general's leadership zone affects only his army, not other allied armies

Only painted models!!

Holy hell. That's a LOT of models: I don't think I've seen such an impressive lineup as that before (Apart from the Siege of Antoch but thats another story). My only concern is the 'open-ness' of the battlefield-although it's probably necessary to cope with the immense numbers on each side it just feels a bit too plain.

Looking forward to when the battle begins!

07-04-2007, 04:30
Theres... theres so many of em...

This is simply stunning Galladorn. Simply stunning.

07-04-2007, 04:33
we have reserves also!! 5000 of orcs and gobbos alone!!!

07-04-2007, 04:42
Ye gods you mean theres more to come?

You are going to lose your minds trying to keep track of everything.

07-04-2007, 06:51
First turn went to Evil. There was a general advance, magic was ineffective, shooting was killer though. Karl Franz was shot off of his dragon by 6 bolt throwers. I even taunted him about not being able to kill him!!!

The Alliance turn one had the Empire Knights charging into their evil battle lines and killing 2 minotaur units (khornate GAH!), dragon ogres were broken, and white wolves were run off by a steam tank charge!!!

magic was stopped by evil using many dispel scrolls. Some spells got through, like Teclis getting flames of the Phoenix off on Azhag the Slaughterer.

Gonna call it for tonight

Azhag the Slaughterer survives a hail of bolt throwers and magic missiles

Karl Franz is no more

Ogres hold the flank!!!!!

07-04-2007, 09:09
Oh my goodness. I think I'm sexually aroused.

That looks like a whole lot of fun.

Keep us posted. This is one I will keep coming back to.

What is that, about 12k points per side, as it stands now? Just a rough guesstimate...

Good Holy Lord of that's ~10k in reserves?

Are you sure that 8 turns is going to be enough?

07-04-2007, 10:05
Great looking battle there, can't wait to see how it all turns out... oh and also...

Nice pictures, but you should really add captions so we know just what the hell's going on in them. Because they're so high up, it's kinda difficult to figure out who's who.

07-04-2007, 14:09
Wow...Just wow. So many dragons..How do you keep track of all that!!!???

I like the look of those yellow skaven

07-04-2007, 18:17
The second turn begins with ol Khazrak one eye having 7 units of beastmen and hounds appear behind Allaince lines

Evil reinforcements fill up the battlefield

Panic takes its toll on evil...

So out of curiousity, who was the Supreme General for both sides?

07-04-2007, 18:26
Karl Franz for the Allaince (Dead) and Throt the Unclean for Evil

07-04-2007, 19:53
Go Azhag!
As if some poncy elf magic is gonna drop an Orc with an axe that oversized?

How are they good guys going to stop so many Beastmen behind their lines? Timely arrival of good reinforcements? Must watch to find out.

Turn 2 report

The tide has definitely turned against Evil.

The High Elves, were charged by the Skaven and broke every single unit. The Dragon prines on the extreme right destroyed the swarms, and on their turn, charged and broke beastmen that arrived on the flank to ambush.

The silver helms broke the clanrats and wound up in the flank of Throt the Unclean's massive unit of Stormvermin. High Elf spearmen charged and broke clanrats. The High Elves look good

The Dogs of War hold the center!!

The Alliance left has taken down the traitorous White Wolves, broken the evil Dogs of War, and dealt with the ambushing beastmen

07-04-2007, 22:15
These are empire knights in the evil deployment zone

08-04-2007, 00:32
It is the end of the 3rd turn, and Evil's forces consist of the Orcs and Goblins in the center, and 3 units of Khorne
White wolf traitors and gone

The Evil Dogs of War are reduced to the cursed company

The skaven have been almost totally destroyed

However, the forces of evil, are still strong in the center

Azhag is dead
pikemen oppose the Orcs, and are doing a great job of beating off his attacks.
The Silver helms, who have traveled to the center after running down enemy units (The Battle Banner held by the Battle Standard bearer made this possible) are in position to take down the Savage Orc Boar Boyz, which are the archor to his army.

The Alliance has Golgfag's Ogres, Voland's Venators and Asarnil the Dragonlord to close the gaps in the center.

3 empire knight units, one headed up by Valten, one by Kurt Helborg, and the other by Ludwig Schwarzhelm and a power sword armed hero and daemonslayer banner are in position to roll up the flank to his center.

Rob ended the game at the bottom of the third.

The losses for evil exceeded 14,000 points, while the Alliance's forces were around 3,000.

Although only 3 turns were played, both Rob and I agreed on the outcome. This was an amazing game, and I'd like to do it again.

08-04-2007, 01:23
Azhag is dead

Why does that keep happening to him?

Anyway, excellent pictures and recaps of how the game was going. Its a shame it had to end so soon but sometimes the dice gods are right jerks.

Pure awesome regardless Galladorn!

08-04-2007, 01:29
I would totally do this battle again

What I would do differently would be to have more players involved. This way when one player needs a break, others can help out.

If there's anyone in the New York area with painted armies willing to do this, just let me know.

08-04-2007, 03:24
also just a suggestion might want some more terrain makes tactically different

08-04-2007, 22:01
amzing. What did you use Marco Colombo as?

08-04-2007, 22:53
it's fun when you have teams on each side, we played 3 vs 3, 20000 points at warhammer world, unfortunately only two of us had remotely painted armies, the rest were a mass of white and black!

I'm sure we'll be doing it again sometime, I want a detailed report!!

09-04-2007, 02:11
amzing. What did you use Marco Colombo as?

I used him as a Tilean mage. came out pretty nice too

10-04-2007, 02:25
I was away for the easter week-end... I missed all the action. Thanks for the report with pictures. I want to play one of those game sooner or later (well probably later than sooner...)

WOW, what a fantastic battle Gallardorn. It must of been quite an impressive site to see all those armies lined up and ready for battle.

10-04-2007, 12:40
Great battle report mate- brilliant pictures and good text- very inspiring. reminded me how much fun uber battles can be! Good work!

10-04-2007, 15:20
Yes nice indeed, how long did the battle last?

10-04-2007, 21:30
Yes nice indeed, how long did the battle last?

The game took about 3 hours to deploy on Friday night, about 3 hours to play turn 1 slept. Turn 2 took about 1 1/2 hours to deploy the reserves. 4 hours to play turn 2 and a few hours for turn 3. That was alot of gaming!

English 2000
10-04-2007, 23:47
And you quit after only 3 turns?
You are WEAK!!!!!!

A true Warhammer geek can play for weeks without anything more than caffeine breaks!

11-04-2007, 01:38
Wow, very impressive! These mega battles always seems to end by about turn three or four, but at least yours had clear resolution (My last one was about 10,000 points a side, and the baddies had just about reached the battle-line, and a High Elf General on Dragon was having words with an Orc Warboss on Wyvern and the game just ended!).

11-04-2007, 04:01
You know, if you are a TRUE WFB gamer, then you must play this sort of game at least once every month. Minimum.

Great battle report, and the pics actually gave me a mild hard-on, the type that I get when I see my ex-wife every other week. (dont say anything to my current wife!)

11-04-2007, 09:08
What dragon model is it that karl franz was sitting on?

11-04-2007, 13:28
Go HE woo. WIsh I didn't endlessly play Dwarves and Chaos so i could actually cause some hell with spearmen and the like.
Looks cool, happy to see the Good Guys won like they should.

11-04-2007, 13:40
Wow that was huge! Thanks for the pictures!

12-04-2007, 00:18
What dragon model is it that karl franz was sitting on?

that was the plastic dragon that GW came out with a while back.

12-04-2007, 04:26
that was the plastic dragon that GW came out with a while back.

Right ok, I wasn't sure, your dragon somehow looks a lot less demented than GW's.

Awe-inspiring battle report by the way

18-04-2007, 22:56
so much warhammer "drool"

22-04-2007, 16:51
Wow, what a awesome battle report! loved the pictures and the result go alliance!

29-04-2007, 09:50

2 massive armies just facing down at each other. that looked insaine!

how many models were used? 100, maybe 200 thousand? :p
