Hey all. This is my first attempt at making a Wood Elves army, and as such, I have very little clue as to whether or not it's a decent force or not. Regardless, please take a look and tell me what you think, if it has potential for future growth, if it needs some changes here and there, anything.

Wood Elf Noble-
Great Weapon
Alter Kindred
The Helm of the Hunt
@124pts.

Spellsinger-
Level 2
Calaingor's Stave
@150pts.

12 Glade Guard-
Musician
@150pts.

12 Glade Guard-
Musician
@150pts.

10 Dryads
@120pts.

6 Glade Riders-
Musician
@153pts.

6 Glade Riders-
Musician
@153pts.

TOTAL-1000pts.

So there it is. It seems like a pretty basic force, I suppose, and at a glance seems to be lacking any kind of punch, so to speak. Maybe this is simply a trait of the Wood Elves, and I'm just too unfamiliar with them at this point to see what's actually there. Anyway, they have a very interesting army list and I'm in the process of exploring it currently.

Anyway, please feel free to tell me what you think of this little army. Also, I'm currently exploring the Bretonnian army list so if you're interested take a look here for a 1000 point list of them....these two armies are new to me, and I'm playing around with them at the moment, so any help you can give is very much appreciated.

this is actually a great list!

Plenty of shooting... Magic... Fast units to flank and harass... Alter noble to flank and harass... The only hard unit is the Dryads.

The only thing I would do is maybe drop your GG to 10 and GR to 5 and you dryads to 8 and try to get another unit of 8 dryads.

Great, thanks for the advice, DesertDirge!

Add the hail of doom arrow to your alter. in almost all cases he will hit on 2's in the second round (best time to fire it).

Add a dispel scroll to your mage.

To free up points, drop the GG to 10 each. 12 is fine though.

Drop the dryads to 8. The extra two won't do anything.

You don't need two units of glade riders.

You need another unit of dryads.

You're on the right path, best of luck!

id take out a unit of glade riders and add in a unit of wild riders then you have a good hard hitting unit

Hey Caligula,

Your list is very close to the one I usually "use" for 1000 point games. Been proxying it so far, but I'm currently acquiring the minis. The 1000 points look as follows (in case you're interested):

Wood Elf Noble-
Great Weapon
Alter Kindred
Helm of the Hunt
Hail of Doom Arrow
Light Armor
@156pts.

Spellsinger-
Level 2
Calaingor's Stave
@150pts.

10 Glade Guard-
Musician
@126pts.

10 Glade Guard-
Musician
@126pts.

10 Glade Guard-
Musician
@126pts.

8 Dryads
@96pts.

5 Glade Riders-
Musician
@129pts.

5 Wardancers-
@90pts.

TOTAL-999pts.

Great! Thanks for all the replies! I'll look into making some of the changes you've all suggested and come back with a revised list.

Now, for the next 500 point installment, what would you all consdier to be vital additions?

Can't... resist... to say ... waywatchers! hit most times on 3+, effective from the second turn on 2+ with killing blow is awesome, although those guys are quite expensive...

I'm a huge fan of Wardancers. So... in the next 500 point installment, I would definately recommend getting a unit of 7 or so. I'd probably throw in another unit of dryads as well. Treekin could be a great unit at 1,500 points I think.

i would say

1.drop the glade riders completly and get ur self 5 wild riders with standard
2.drop the dryads down to 8
3.drop the glade guard down to 10 drop the musician
4.get some wardancers (8)

definetly get some waywatchers when you expand your army they are awesome i allways use them and they kill loads of heroes over the games

Great, thanks for all the great advice everyone! My internet has been down for a few days, so I apologize for this bit of threadomancy....I'm going to make some changes to the list, and report back. I might also write up the next 500 point installment as well and post it here.

Thanks again for all the response!

Okay, here's the revised 1000 point list. I've taken in all the suggestions in regards to it, and tried to incorporate what I could and what I thought fit into what I wanted from this force. Here it is...

Wood Elf Noble-
Great Weapon
Light Armour
Alter Kindred
Hail of Doom Arrow
The Helm of the Hunt
@156pts.

Spellsinger-
Level 2
Calaingor's Stave
Dispel Scroll
@175pts.

12 Glade Guard-
Musician
@150pts.

12 Glade Guard-
Musician
@150pts.

8 Dryads
@96pts.

8 Dryads
@96pts.

7 Glade Riders-
Musician
@177pts.

TOTAL-1000pts.

So, hopefully this list looks a little better? Certainly the two characters are looking much more powerful(which is good!). I got rid of one of the Glade Rider units, as was suggested, and added another unit of the nasty Dryads. I had enough points left over exactly to buy another Glade Rider.

Anyway, I'd certainly like to hear more thoughts and opinions on this new list. Did the changes make it better?

...and just a little more food for thought, here's what I'm thinking of as a 500 point addition to this army, taking it up to 1500pts...

8 Wardancers-
Musician
Bladesinger
@165pts.

5 Wild Riders of Kurnous-
Musican
Standard Bearer
War Banner
Wild Hunter
@191pts.

6 Waywatchers
@144pts.

TOTAL-500pts.

I personally prefer the original list, but if you dropped some elves and some upgrades, you may be able to squeeze in an extra unit of dryads. If you drop 2 glade guard form each unit (48 points) and the 2 extra dryads (24 points) and the glade guard musicians (12 points) and 1 of the musicians on the glade riders, you gain 102 points, with which you can get another unit of dryads and give your Altar noble a shield and light armour.

Also, have you considered swapping the spellsinger for a Branchwraithe? She has the same LD and can be general, but she is a better fighter and you can give her spites. A good set up would be:

140: Level 1 Branchwraithe w/ Annoyance of netlings.

Hope that helps a bit.

Hmmm definately something I'll look into, god octo! Thanks for the advice. Branwraiths are in fact pretty interesting characters, and I'd love to include one at some point.

Id take out hail of doom and add in bow of loren because that way you get more shots each turn

But then again, they are only S3 and it doesn't have the wow factor of the Hail of doom arrow.

Hmmm...I came up with a bit of a different list than the previous one I've posted, and included a unit of Wild Rider in it for some much-needed punch.

Wood Elf Noble-
Great Weapon
Light Armour
Shield
Alter Kindred
Hail of Doom Arrow
The Helm of the Hunt
@158pts.

Spellsinger-
Level 2
Calaingor's Stave
Dispel Scroll
@175pts.

10 Glade Guard-
Musician
@126pts.

10 Glade Guard-
Musician
@126pts.

6 Glade Riders-
Musician
@153pts.

8 Dryads
@96pts.

5 Wild Riders of Kurnous-
Musician
Standard Bearer
Wild Hunter
@166pts.

TOTAL-1000pts.

Thoughts?

keep that hail of doom arrow in it has a much better psychologic effect then the bow of loren. getting hit with a hail of doom arrow will really discourage a opponent.
