which do you think is the best battle ship for the imperials in the game.

I like the Apocolypse and the Emperor class.

But I am new to BFG.

most consider the emperor to be the best.

but YMMV.

The Emperor is considered the best by most, but it also comes down to how you are going to play. If you plan to get in close and go for the kill then do so and use something other than the Emperor. It is a question of what you want your battleship to do.

Emperor hands down, or the Oberon without its neutered stats if your opponent agrees.

I used to have an emperor and an apocalypse..tbh i loved having like 6 lance batterys for blasting apart escorts or sniping...retribution has a place if u like a linebreaker..but yea emperor is great for sheer numbers of bombers/fighters

As a good indication you could read the Imperial Navy analysis in Warp Rift 11:

Talk to me about the Oberon. It's been nerfed? I have the stats for it in Armada, is that pre-neutering or post-neutering?

Also, I heard from a friend that the points costs for the Emperor and the Retribution had been swapped around, but couldn't find any sign of it anywhere. It wouldn't be the first time he was wrong about something like this, but it would make sense to me if it were true.

Hey, Raziel:

This FAQ on the SG website answers that. The Retty and Emperor have indeed been swapped.

And I agree; it does make sense. I've been saying since 99 that the Emperor was the better ship. Im just surprised it took GW this long to work out the same thing.

...And what's this about the Oberon? How's it been neutered? Im not too familiar with this little problem.

The Oberon's Prow and Dorsal weapon batteries used be 60cm, just like the Emperor's, back when it was first released in BFG Magazine.

Now they're 45 cm and it noticeably hurts the ship's performance. It made perfect sense before, the Oberon traded 4 launch bays for 4 lances. Other than that it was the same as an Emperor. Then in Armada for some reason they decided that was crazy-go-nuts and dropped its guns down to 45cm.

I never really saw the point in nerfing it like that, it was good the way it was: expensive, long ranged battleship that had a few launch bays to either cover it's **** with fighters or go in for the kill against a straying enemy vessel with bombers/assault boats.

It would make a fun Venerable Battle Barge :p
