Nowhere near as insane as the doghouse pattern (http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y68/StBarbarossa/Ordo%20Malleus/Crusader_0026.jpg), my Thousand Sons LR still needs some stuff to set it apart. So what is better than a sacrificial altar on top? - A closeup of said sacrificial altar! But silly me forgot that. :-(

The whole thing is still very WIP, but I'll keep you posted on the progress.

Here is the frontal shot:
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y68/StBarbarossa/Thousand%20Sons/IMG_0186.jpg

As you can see, the weapons all sport decorative banner tops from the Khemri range. To make them fit, I cut off the foremost part of the armour covering the guns (the part where it gets narrower). I also cut off all the dangly bits from the banner top, and that was about it. The top will fit neatly onto the armour.
What I forgot was that the lascannons had to fit into the sponsoons and suddenly the banner tops caused a problem. I solved that by cutting down the roof* of the sponsoon as can be seen here:

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y68/StBarbarossa/Thousand%20Sons/IMG_0185.jpg

That made the lascannons fit nicely.

* Don't know a better word for it. If you do, tell me.

Here is also a closer shot of the HB, I had more side shots and some pictures how it looked pre assembly, but they were all pretty crappy. For some reason I have the shakey hands of a 58 year old alcoholic. :(

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y68/StBarbarossa/Thousand%20Sons/IMG_0187.jpg

I still need to replace the aquilae on the tracks with something chaotic and put a bit more bling on the hull. Then the sacrificial altar needs some loving. The priest will be greenstuffed to look more alive (no more gaping holes in the chest!) and there will be a dead Vostroyan on the altar (with a gaping hole in his chest!). Just want to show that the art of hepatoscopy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haruspex) is not forgotten among the Thousand Sons.

Looks awesome, hey have you thought about the funny valture statue things from the casket of souls.

You mean these things (http://de.games-workshop.com/storefront/store.de?do=Individual&code=9947020711611&orignav=13)? Yes, they will be used, since I got the casket as my sacrifial alter anyway.

looks good so far. drill out your bolter barrels. it's not exceedingly difficult and you'll thank yourself later for the effort.

Yup, seconded on barrel drilling. Barrel drilling will increase dice karma by 6.3%. It's true. :D

Looks great! Apart from the Bolter barrels. They must be drilled. Now. ;)

Okay, okay, I get it! Bolter barrels will be drilled at the next opportunity! :-)

Until then, I have some more photos.

I still need to bling up the LR, but to get enough of those small chaos stars I think I have to look into green stuff casting. And I think it's still lacking something, but I don't know what. Still waiting for inspiration to strike me.

This is a pretty cool project. I like it a lot. But to me it seem like you are concentrating too hard on tomb kings and not enough on chaos. A sorcerer atop the alter would be really bone chilling though.

The Tomb Kings bitz look Chaosy enough for me, what with the skulls and stuff. Very Thousand Sons.

That said I would add a bit more Chaos stuff to it, even if it is just spikey things.

looking really good like semi cirlces above guns, like the fact that its more tomb kingy/egyptiany and not to OTT chaos.

i suggest altering the position of the casket - it looks a bit 'stuck-on' and a bit out of place IMO

other than that its looking like its shaping up to TS goodness (or maybe badness, it is chaos afterall)

What goes extremely well with a mixed Tzeentch/Khemri tank thread? Why, threadomancy most vile of course!

But before one of the mods strikes me down with righteous fury, I do have some updates on my tank.
For example, I finally added a sorcerer and victim to the altar. You can't see it from this angle, but he's wielding a Khemri blade as some sort of sacrificial knife and he'll get some guts GSed in his other hand.

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y68/StBarbarossa/Thousand%20Sons/IMG_0060.jpg

I also did some GS casting, relying on the very helpful tutorial found here on Warseer. As it seems, GW was a bit lazy when designing the Chaos Land Raider. They simply threw in a lot of sprues from the imperial variant and overlooked that there are small imperial eagles on the tracks and the AdMech symbol on the exhausts. I couldn't leave my land raider like that and thus I set to work.

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y68/StBarbarossa/Thousand%20Sons/IMG_0059.jpg

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y68/StBarbarossa/Thousand%20Sons/IMG_0061.jpg

In the first picture above you can see the original chaos star on the right and the cast on the left. I had to do some 4 or 5 casts of that star to replace all the eagles on the tracks.

In the last picture you can see where the vultures went that came with the casket of souls as well as a bigger view of the whole tank.

CnC welcome!

Looks really nice, though I think I would have left the random undead guy off of the tank, think that the altar on the top is enough. Maybe some swirling faces GS'd into the sides of the tank for tormented souls of the sacrificed?

I think it's the Vostroyan casualty from the platoon set, something like that.

Looking good so far.

May I suggest turning the hand so that it is pointing downwards rather than upwards whilst also adding a bit more angle from the priest to the altar, giving him the feeling of holding his hand above the vostroyan rather than away from him. I would also suggest making some form of sequential intro to the skeletons at the back of the altar, might I suggest doing the exakt same skeletons out of plastics but cutting them in an even shorter size and repeating, cutting shorter and shorter untill there's only a bit of bubly metal left. Then paint all of the skulls and skeletons in the same colour as the landraider whilst you paint the two Tomb Guard in Gold or Stone colours

Other than that, it looks ACE!

Ra-Horakhty, woe-machine of the Thebeian straits

In 324M36 the Changer Of Ways inspired the mutant slaves of Du'at VI to open rebellion against the Imperium. Their frenzied attacks soon saw the planet's desert cities in ruins until only the Obsidian Bastion, seat of the Gouvernor Imperial, was left. Two years the mutant phalanxes marched against the Bastion, only to die at the base of its walls. Their weapons, looted from the planetary defense forcescould not scar the walls, much less break through them.
With each day, the Imperial defenders regained new hope. After many months their astropathic call for help had finally been answered and several regiments were underway to bring the Emperor's Justice to the mutant rebels. They only had to hold out a few months more...
Exactly two years after the first revolt, Imperial sentries were alerted by thundering footsteps coming from the direction of the rising sun. Striding out of the glare came a towering war machine. Eagle-headed but with a roughly humanoid body, it pointed its metal claw at the Bastion and baleful lightning shot forth, scouring the men from the walls. Ra-Horakhty had arrived.
The huge machine-ushabti threw itself against the walls and slowly, methodically stated to hack them to pieces under the cheering of the mutants.
The defenders opened fire, but the woe-machine shugged off the stubber and grenade fire like rain. Only when the Golden Servitors, honour guard of the Gouvernor, sallied forth to attack it with melta bombs did the great beast fall.
The defenders were reliefed. The walls had not yet been breached and the woe-machine outside their walls was beyond repair.
In the light of the next dawn, the wreckage was gone and thundering footsteps could be heard from the direction of the rising sun. Ra-Horakhty had arrived.

Finally I've done some work on the woe-machine. It'll be used as a defiler in my Thousand Sons army.

It still needs a lot of detail work and I'm not exactly happy with the head, but at least it is in rough shape now.

Thanks for the comments guys!
After some pondering and brooding I've decided to rip off the head, make it bigger and connect it to an actual neck. Right now it looks kinda strange with the small head which is actually sitting below the shoulders.

Ah, good to see you're expanding your Thousand Sons there Barbarossa! However, I'm not sure on the use of power armoured shoulder pads on the Terminators, from where I'm looking they appear a tad too small. However, I'm impressed with the look of the heads on the torsoes, it works well!. I tried to do the same but using Grey Knight Terminator bodies - the horror of all that drilling haunts me still!

Anyways, looking forward to seeing more of your work.

Barbarossa

@Tiller5: You drilled out the heads of the Grey knight terminators? You're a determined man!

I've also been busy; I started on the demon prince for my Legion and re-did the defiler's head. Still not satisfied with it, but it looks better than before.

Anyway, here's the demon prince:

Oh yes I do. :-)

Just realized that I don't have a pic of my Predator in here. It's not much of a conversion, just replaced the viewing ports with an all-seeing eye and replaced one lascannon with a mutated two-headed snake that spews forth lightning.

Here are some quick WIP shots of my Forge Fiend, the Terrible Guardian of Ahriman. I still have to do some prettying up (Khemri bits over the chaos part, chaos bits over the Khemri part) and I need to add the plasma cannon to the back, since there is no place in the front. Weapons are magnetised. What do you think?

The Thousand Sons Forge Fiend is a very good conversion, due in no small part to the blend of round, curved plates on the Forge Fiend and the back of the Hierotitan. Let's see if you can make it even better. :)

I LOVE all of your conversions! The land raider is really epic with all the Tomb King bits and the casket on top.
The forgefiend looks a lot better than the original model. Now it's actually a beast instead of a pile of meat with guns. I hope to see some of this awesomeness painted soon, if your paintskills are as good as your conversion skills we are in for a lot more gawking!

Cheers!

Thank you for the praise, El Aartos, I hope I won't disappoint.

Here are WIP shots of my Heldrake, The Blind Hunter. It looks much better if you dump the neck and head and replace it with the forgefiend head. I didn't have any good ideas how to tie it into my TS, stylewise, so I guess I'm just slapping on some Khemri iconography.

I'm really liking this thread, the Knight is a very cool idea. I was wondering about if the necrosphinx blades might work on a Knight, but your idea about using a wing for a sword-blade looks a lot better.
