Dear people of warseer,

Recently I started a new army, Lizardmen. This is actually my 3rd Lizardmen army (I started with 5th edition lizzies nine years ago and last year I sold my purple army of Lizardmen, which I regret hehe). Well, because of the feelings of regret and Sir McMullets awesome Lizardmen army that he logged not so long ago, I really felt the urge to build a third army.

First, a picture of my former lizzie army, with a slightly unusual colorscheme:

This time, I felt the need to paint it blue. Not the GW-blue army, but darker and more turquoise. (It was either this or Ultramarines, hehe). Thus, here the obligatory workspace, with the beginnings of the army set up for painting:

I want to go for an army with some solid blocks of saurus, two nice hard hitting regiments of Cold One Riders, backed up by a mass of skinks (Yeah, beat those exalted demons with some poison! :>).

In the last three weeks I have finished a block of cold ones, some saurus, 12 skinks, salamanders and some characters, including a Slann. Without further ado:

I chose for a simple yet effective color scheme. Since I plan to expand to 3000 pts ASAP, I am satisfied with a decent tabletop quality level for the rank and file units. Characters and other cool models will get more attention.

Last week I ordered the second half of the army. Complete, it will consist of:
- Slann
- Carnosaur
- Saurus Hero
- 2 Skink Heroes

- 20 Saurus templeguards
- 24 Saurus with spears
- 24 Saurus with handweapons
- 3 x 12 Skinks

- 2 x 8 Cold One Riders
- 3 Terradons

- 2 Salamanders

Of course, in the future, I will get those kroxies and a stegadon ^^.

Let me know what you think.

Cheers,
Roel

Quality looking lizzies. I must admit though, i prefer the purple scheme because i've never seen purple lizardmen before.

The purple army does indeed look very nice, however the new one is pretty good too. I much prefer a darker and more subdued scheme like the one you've chosen.

I'm impressed by how quickly you're knocking those units out though, that's a lot of work for 3 weeks!

Good luck with the rest of the army, I'm looking forward to it!

Very nice lizardman army I must say, I really like the color scheme. Good job.

By the way, I notice you have infantry and cavalry blocks with a 4 model wide front... You are aware that you won't get rank bonuses in that formation aren't you? You need 5 for that in the new rules.
You going to get 2 more saurus cavalry and either split into two units or have one unit of 10? Or do you just field a single file of 5-8() models?

Cheers

The old purple lizards look great, and the new blue ones are also really really nice. The blue scheme is a good one, mostly because of that awesome blue you've got going on. The slaan is especially solid :D

Thanks for the responds people :>.

To be honest, I think the purple scheme looks cooler too. It is simply more original. However, I didn't feel like painting the same army again, so I chose for something different.

I guess it is because I have developed a kind of speed painting technique, being a simple combination of drybrushing, picking out the details and doing some simple highlighting. When that is done, I wash the entire model with watered down black ink. It immediately gives the skin the dark, deep blue, makes the gold more realistic, touches up minor mistakes and even provides a bit of blacklining. It almost feels like cheating sometimes, but hey, I ain't dipping!

Yeah, I know. Fortunately for me, I don't play games that often and when I do, I am far more interested in shoving pretty looking mini's around the table then actually winning the battle. Thus, I won't bother buying and painting the extra's Cold Ones for just a bit of rankbonus extra.

So last night I really felt like batch painting (wtf was I on?) and I actually enjoyed finishing this large block of Saurus Warriors:
http://s61.photobucket.com/albums/h42/RPeters_photos/Lizardmen/?action=view&current=100_2950.jpg

Here they are along with the first Saurus Scar Vetaran. I intend to to do a second unit like this (armed with spears though). Now this will kick ass! :>
http://s61.photobucket.com/albums/h42/RPeters_photos/Lizardmen/?action=view&current=100_2956.jpg

Now I just have to paint those 20 Temple Guards to go along with my Slann and then I will have about 2000 points ready to take on all the world. Hell yeah.
Check out the Bloated Wise One here: http://s61.photobucket.com/albums/h42/RPeters_photos/Lizardmen/?action=view&current=S5000351.jpg

Oh yeah, two weeks ago I played my first battle (1250 pts) and I massacred an Undivided Chaos Army. Ain't that a sweet start.

I'm off to please the lady.

Cheers,
Roel

Looking good!
I really like the other purple Lizardmen too, it's not a color you see often on Lizardmen but you pulled it off well.
The scar veteran in with the unit of saurus looks sweet too, he has a slightly darker colour to him which makes him look older, and stronger.

I really like both schemes atlghough i prefer the purple because it's different to most lizzie schemes. I like the range of classic and newer models in your army, its a nice contrast.

Looking forward to some more.

I liked the purple more, but the nice dark blue is better than GW's normal light blue scheme. Me needs to see more.

Hiya!

Long time, no see. Not that I haven't been painting, just didn't bother getting out the digicam and taking pictures. Now I finally have and as you can see, the army is really starting to take shape by now.

Army shots:

Some close up shots:
The Slann in its unit of Temple Guards. 8 more saurus are still wip, they will be added soon to expand the unit. I really like the look of this unit. (Had to touch up most temple guards after varnishing though, the summer warmth really made the varnish turn out grey)

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h42/RPeters_photos/Lizardmen/S5001024.jpg

Here are some shots of the Carnosaur. Though I think the Oldblood turned out a bit too dark, overall I'm pretty statisfied with the look of it. I wanted to tie the Carnie in with the rest of the army by giving him the lava-like skin, which matches the orange feathers in the army.

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h42/RPeters_photos/Lizardmen/S5000744.jpg

Still left to paint are 25 saurus with spears, including a second Scar Veteran, 3 terradons, 8 Temple Guards and 12 more skinks. In the future I will buy a regiment of Kroxigors and a Stegadon and then it is finished at 4000 points. Nice.

Please let me know what you think.

wow, that army shot looks really good. The lava scheme on the carnosaur is very original and you have pulled it off well.

Great job keep up the good work
