I am buying the starter box from a friend (he bought two for some reason).

So I was wondering what ships do you get in the starter box?

4 chaos cruisers: http://uk.games-workshop.com/storefront/store.uk?do=Individual&code=99120802001&orignav=300808

4 imperial cruisers: http://uk.games-workshop.com/storefront/store.uk?do=Individual&code=99120807001&orignav=300808

Each cruiser comes with a port and starboard version for 1 weapon slot and assorted antennae and lances. You can therefore mix and match your ships load out, but consideration must be taken when equipping them, because if you equip a murder class cruiser (with 4 gun batteries) it will mean you may not be able to give all your other cruisers gun batteries.

The old version of the big blue book: http://uk.games-workshop.com/storefront/store.uk?do=Individual&code=60040899004&orignav=300808

A getting started comic

6 D6 die

6 D6 green special order die

2 "whippy stick" blue rules in centimeters.

And card board versions of the following pdf files: http://www.specialist-games.com/battlefleetgothic/playera.asp

Which means you get loads of blast markers, asteroid markers, a fake planet or two and some triangular contact markers.

So what weapons should I give to each ship in order to get a balanced spread and to avoid the situation that you stated above.

It's up to you. Decide which fleet you want and look at the cruisers in the big blue book and see which take your fancy.

One thing you and your friend might want to do is switch cruisers. If you can agree on seperate fleets it only makes sence to give each other those cruisers. This would leave you and he with 8 cruisers which is more than enough to get you going.

Absolutely, trading is great, 8 basic cruisers are more than enough to build a very solid fleet. Especially Chaos, but the Imps have good cruisers too. That is plenty to start, much later when you have a favorite fleet and understand the game better you can expand with a Battleship or some escorts.

4 Cruisers can make the start of a good fleet. Also if you are going to try to get others involved you will probably want to a have another small fleet to let them play.

Well he is collecting chaos and I want to start an imperial fleet with a Plague Fleet on the side so maybe swaping is a good idea.

Unfortunatly I live in a third world country so finding warhammer fantasy and warhammer 40k players is really hard let alone battle fleet gothic players. So at our club we have the thought that if we just get it started it could creat a snowball/domino effect and soon everybody will be hooked.

So having two different fleets would be good in that if I would someone without a fleet he could use mine.

4 cruisers should be plenty good for a core at 1k points. if opponents maybe scarce, then yeah, building both fleets would be good

Just to let you know. The starter box in Spain comes with no miniatures at all! :( It's cheaper though.

so how about this army list using the four cruisers you get in the starter box.

1 Mars + Targeting Matrix + Fleet Admiral = 385

1 Dictator = 220

1 Dominator = 190

1 Lunar + Torpedo Tubes = 180

Total Points = 975

P.S. Do you guys buy your ships at stores or do you have to go onto the net like I do. :eyebrows:

I have to buy mine over the net (or have a store do so). No store near me has them on the shelves.

the mars is a fine choice as your flagship
and the dictator a nice battlecarrier

not a fan of the dominator though it has great broadside str and nova cannon. i tend to take an upgraded tyrant instead for the 45cm ranged batteries

note, though there are 4 cruiser kits, you are limited in the types of weapon bays available and may not be able to build any 4 cruisers you want

if you can find the box, buy it! they no longer make it.
