Starting up WFB at my local store again and I thought I'd butcher a go at HE again.

Bolt Throwers for some nice hitting power/scare factor. Archers for supporting shots and maybe even a desperate flanking if I needed to. Mage will most likley take Fury of Kaine and Flames of the Phoenix ( 2 and 3 dice ) and will hide in either the spearmen or archer unit.

Shadow Warriors for annoyance factor and mage/warmachine hunting. The chariot is really to support any charges I might make.

The Silver Helms will be good at flanking/drawing fire.

As to why I've not taken champions I don't see the point in pay an extra point (12pts instead of 11pts for spear elves) to lose one unit strenght/wound that a normal elf would give me for less points.

C&C welcome but be gental. ;D

I think you're seriously lacking in CC units. Ditch some shooting ability for another CC unit. I would scrap an RBT and the Chariot for another Spear unit.

I think you're stretching your mage too far. Flames of The Phoenix needs 4 casting dice to go off with any regularity, and Fury of Khaine needs 3. He needs to be re-thought. If you stay with the same items, pick the Lore of Fire and take Fiery Blast and Fire Ball using 3 and 2 dice respectively. Personally I would take the Ring of Fury, Channeller and Silver Wand. Random three spells from the Lore of Fire, Pour all four dice into the casting attempt, you opponent will see you've used all your dice so he will probably use all of his, then wham--Ring of Fury.

Well HE CC units aren't that awesome anyway so I'd rather not.

And Fury is cast on and 8 and Flames on an 11 so I think 2 and 3 dice is enough.

Well in 1000 points the opponent is only really going to have 1 mage at most. So that's like 3 dispel dice...

I'll look into others lores ect but meh.

Your choice on the magic but just to let you know the statistics:

Chance of rolling 8+ on 2D6: 42%
Chance of Rolling 11+ on 3D6: 50%
Chance of both spells succeeding in the same phase: 21%

Not very good odds in my opinion.

Once you learn to play HE to their strengths I think you will change your mind on the CC units. Trying to play them like Empire is just going to get you slaughtered.

You are correct in that only one rare choice may be taken under 2000 points. However, 2 RBT's count as a single rare choice in a HE (or DE) army.

Having looked at the averages again I've decided to go for the Ring of Fury, Channeler, Silver wand combo and probably put all 4 dice in one spell whilst getting fury off aswell.

Lore wise will depend on the army.
