View Full Version : Khador Warmachine Log - for the motherlad!

It's time I got off my **** and painted sorted out the models cluttering up my room.

Namely 1,000pts of Khador Warmachine and a Necromunda Delaque gang. Then I'm home free...although some scenery will probably appear too.

This weekend I had a mad gluing and flocking fest, followed by massed sprayage.

The results:

http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b135/AdamsMiniatures/warmachine%20khador/DSCF0010.jpg
I intend to glue the shields on after they're painted. Note that the sgt has the standard Man O War legs and arms instead of the LOOK AT MEEEEE!! disco dancing pose he normally comes with. Sheild wall my ****!

http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b135/AdamsMiniatures/warmachine%20khador/DSCF0005.jpg
I love this model and can't wait to see him painted. So I'll save him til last to inspire me to work harder.

I had to glue his halberd to his foot for extra strength. The Privateer Press model has it held out to the side in a line, only attached by a skinny wrist. It was blantantly going to break.

Vlad and chums before flock n spray. Note the 2 sword conversion!
Now he looks really awesome.

The Behemoth was an absolute nightmare of non stop filing before taking a whole week to assemble. Each component needs to carefully dry. I also converted his right leg to stand on the base. Normally he's up on one leg. I'm sorry Privateer Press, but that is gonna break!

Post spray n such. Halfords black spray flaked off one of them. Bit concerning.

My camera is being a bit of an **** right now, but I did get this shot of my Delaque leader. Shame a bit of flesh wash on a lower layer caught the light :(

http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b135/AdamsMiniatures/Necromunda/D1.jpg

I used some of the P3 paints. Thornwood Green on the weapons and Greatcoat Grey for the trousers. Very impressed how the go on so smoothly.

I've just slapped the first coat of red on the Butcher and his buddies. But I'll show all the stages when they're done. Suffice to say, I'm not using the P3 red as my basecoat. More coming soon!

I'll be slapping on the basic main colours during the week, then painting properly at the weekends. BY the time I get home from work the light is pretty poor. I need to get one of those daylight bulbs..

Lovely gang leader; smoothly painted and just generally good :)

I'm also interested to see this Warmachine as well. i don;t like their style from what I;ve seen; maybe seeing them with different painting wil change my mind?

My chaos cult needed a leader
http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b135/AdamsMiniatures/Chaos%20Marines/cult3.jpg

Someome recommended the Mordheim Necromancer and I've got to say, he's an awesome model. Too bad his sword arm normally gets in the way of his face. I'll give him a bolter or pistol when I scav one.

Because it's dreary outside the light in my room is dreadful. I was only able to get a single coat of khardic flesh on my heavy and some flesh wash before it became too dark to paint.

I got myself a Daylight Bulb in the post, but it's a bayonette, not a screw in, so I'm a bit stumped. I'll buy a tall lamp or something at the weekend.

On the bright side, look at the blasphemous book I got in the post!

http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b135/AdamsMiniatures/Chaos%20Marines/theblasphemousbook.jpg

As you may have guessed, I'm a very happy bunny :D

Just realised it's a bank holiday weekend this week. Whoo hoo! 3 days of painting!

Expect some awesome results.

Until soon...

Three Day Painting Weekend!

First off, my 12 cities of death barricades came in the post, which will be added to the growing scenery collection as demonstrated here by my Delque leader Slappy McSlaphead

I need to at the very least finish the Delaque gang this weekend. I've made a start on Roaring Reg the heavy with a Khardic Flesh basecoat (P3), followed by a Flesh Wash (GW). Next I paint on some Dwarf Flesh, then highlight with a little watered down Bleached Bone. I find that Elf Flesh is far too vibrant for skin....unless you're going for that 'slapped ****' look.

Here's some stages. Keep it simple and it looks fine. It's also best to hight where you see the light fall. This stops you from highlighting too much and keeps things quick.

http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b135/AdamsMiniatures/Dpaintskin.jpg

Yes, yes, his goggles are blobbed! I'll tidy them up later.

These models take so bloody long to paint... *sigh*

So I did some simpler stuff before my head explodes.
Sprayed the COD barricades black and also acquired some 40k scale cars and a truck for objectives, terrain and high speed chases in Necromunda. Not entirely sure how I'm going to paint them right now

Cars and truck, presented by my lovely assistant Slappy McSlaphead
http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b135/AdamsMiniatures/Necromunda/D5.jpg

I picked up some warjack scrap markers at SALUTE 07 for warmachine. Totally unofficial, but what the hell. Too bad none of them look remotely like a Khador warjack, so I painted them all as scrap.
The scheme came out a lot better than I thought and IF I was a sad, cheesy Iron Warriors player, I'd apply this scheme in an instant!

black undercoat,
bolter gun metal drybrush
dwarf bronze detailing
flesh wash around joins and over bronze
black wash over the lot.
very light mithril silver drybrush

http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b135/AdamsMiniatures/warmachine%20khador/scrap.jpg

Now it's back to the grind. I really need to get this gang finished today.

The Delaque gang is looking very good AMBS.

What's that about High Speed chases in Necromunda? I'm starting this summer and can;t find anything like that in the rulebook; are they unofficial rules or available in a totally different place to the rest of the rules?

No rules exist, but I'm sure my friends and I will come up with something.

Although they'll probably remain as stationary bits of terrain. Cars would be too easy to blow up in Necromunda.

If you want a car gang, try GorkaMorka, or even better, AXEL TRIBES which is free to download from www.drunkdwarves.com. All you need a 5 toy cars each.

4 gangers left...then I'll do a photo finish! :D

AMBS PAINTS RED - PART ONE

Now kiddywinkles, I'm going to show you how I paint red properly. None of this bright and happy rubbish mind you! This is Khador and in Khador we're tough and gritty.

We begin with Scab Red as the base. It's best to apply a second watered down coat for better colour consistency.

http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b135/AdamsMiniatures/warmachine%20khador/redpaint1.jpg

Here we have komrade Orsus and his steam powered companions.

The Behemoth is great fun. He can be fun for a 500 pointer or two.

devolutionary
10-05-2007, 10:32

Done a fair bit o' painting this evening. I was meant to take photos of the red in stages, but...I just couldn't help myself and kept on painting.

Just need to do the final highlights on the juggernaught's red, then I'll photo and compare it to the Scab Red destroyer.

Khador Red Base is RUBBISH! It's not red, it's bright orange.
I may try it on some orange models in the future with Khador Highlight as the second layer.
I feel a Van Saar gang coming on painted in the Yu Jing colours from INFINITY.

AMBS
11-05-2007, 19:18
AMBS PAINTS RED - PART DEUX!

Last time I showed you how to paint Scab Red (oooooh!), but now I'll show you the finished article. I could have shown it in stages, but I'm a busy man and my camera sucks.

http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b135/AdamsMiniatures/warmachine%20khador/realred1.jpg

Scab Red base on the left, finished red on the right.

Base coat scab red.
Second coat is Red Gore. Make sure you paint all but the darkest areas. Once again, judge this by the light and it should be made easier on the squarer bits.
Highlight One mix up a pot of 2/3 Red Gore, 1./3 Blood Red. Be careful how much Blood Red you add, as it totally kills the other colour if you use too much. You then begin highlighting the brightest areas with this, namely the edges. The majority of the model should still look very Red Gore.
Highlight Two get some Blood Red, water it down a bit so it's not too bright, then paint on where the highlights are brightest and along the edges. You can layer up the highlights over particularly shiny areas for a great effect, but keep it minimal. Too much highlighting and it'll look orange.

http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b135/AdamsMiniatures/warmachine%20khador/realred2.jpg

And there you are! One brilliantly rich n red Khador warjack. This also works well on Necrons, Blood Angels and Khorne Bezekers

It's terrain time!

First of all, I did a bit of what business boffins call 'outsourcing', known to you and me as 'payting someone else to do it for you'.

As I'm sure those of you with careers can appreciate, I am a busy man, so I paid Gerard Pitt, young lad who lives up the road, to get the Macragge shuttle, slap it on an MDF board, then flock and paint it. Good job he's done too!

http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b135/AdamsMiniatures/Necromunda/terr2.jpg

http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b135/AdamsMiniatures/Necromunda/terr1.jpg

Stay tuned for more scenery in the future!

Gerard also made my gaming boards for me...or his older brother did, then Gerard repainted them in the fine grey finish you see now.

AMBS
13-05-2007, 11:51
I also sprayed up the barricades and cars with Halford's grey primer over a blakc undercoat, followed by a little dusting of Halford's beige for a softer toned finish. Magnifique!

I've been tidying up my room, so Warmachine has been on the back burner a bit. I've also given myself a neck injury while reading the Liber Chaotica. The Ruinous Powers are certainly not to be toyed with!

Lovely, very cohesive.

Nice stuff, though i have to wonder, do you do any painting yourself or do you commision everything? Not meaning to be rude just wondering :)

Cheers
