So I decided to try to make a nice, small little fleet. I have not played a game of BFG yet, so I still need to learn the nuances. Also, while closing in, is it better to use Novas to snipe smaller craft, or to try to pound cruisers?

Fleet Admiral with Extra Reroll - 75

Mars Battle Cruiser - 270 Provides a Nova Cannon, Fighter Bays, and extended ranged weapons.

Dominator Cruiser - 190 Provides a Nova cannon on the way in, then S12 Batteries on both sides when it gets close.

Lunar Cruiser - 180 Provides a good array of weapons.

Lunar Cruiser - 180 Provides a good array of weapons.

3 Sword Frigates - 105 Small, (relativily swift), and each has S4 Batteries.

Good list, may change a Lunar to a Gothic.
For more points add a battleship (preferably Emperor or Oberon 'old-style') and
more escorts.

Do you really have 10 weapon-battery pieces? I was under the impression that each cruiser only came supplied with 2 of each weapon...

You might want to switch a Lunar to a Gothic if you run out of batteries. The Gothic might not be *quite* as useful, but it's easily the coolest-looking Imperial cruiser out there.

The Gothic is the best IN cruiser together with the Dominator.

note that the only ship with batteries longer than 30cm is the Mars
this may prove problematic against eldar

otherwise it seems good to me

The man's right, you won't be able to build this with the bits you get in the boxes.

However, if you do go for an Emperor class battleship you'll get some spare battery tiles.
